Ginger WildheartHe's one of the most prolific and creatively uncompromised rock musicians of the past 30 years -- and he's far from finished. Ginger Wildheart joins us to discuss The Wildhearts' new album, “Satanic Rites of the Wildhearts,” his soul-bearing songwriting process, his history with Michael Monroe, Courtney Love and Brides of Destruction, plus that time Mick Ronson turned up to solo on The Wildhearts 1993 debut album, “Earth Vs. The Wildhearts.” We also revisit an on-stage memory with Motorhead and that time our own “Metal Dave” added a guest voice to Ginger's 2005 solo album, “Valor Del Corazon.”Created and Produced by Jared Tuten
RockerMike and Rob Presents:Suzi RonsonSuzi Ronson (née Fussey) played a crucial behind-the-scenes role in shaping David Bowie's image during his Ziggy Stardust era. Born in England, she worked as a hairdresser in Beckenham when she first encountered Bowie and his then-wife, Angie Bowie. It was Suzi who gave Bowie the now-iconic red mullet haircut, which was inspired by a style from a Japanese fashion magazine. Impressed by her work, Bowie invited her to join his team as a personal stylist, making her the first woman to be part of his touring crew.During the early 1970s, Suzi traveled with Bowie and his band, the Spiders from Mars, styling his hair, helping with wardrobe, and supporting the overall theatrical vision of his performances. This period was one of the most visually striking and influential phases of Bowie's career. While working with Bowie, she met Mick Ronson, Bowie's lead guitarist and arranger. The two fell in love and eventually married, starting a family together. After Mick's passing in 1993, Suzi continued working in creative fields, including music production, writing, and storytelling. In recent years, she has shared her experiences from the Ziggy Stardust era through interviews and articles, giving fans a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes world of one of rock's most transformative periods. Her contributions to Bowie's image and legacy remain a vital part of his history.#SuziRonson #MickRonson#ZiggyStardust #DavidBowie#BowieStyle #GlamRock#SpidersFromMars #RockHistory#70sRock #HairAndFashion#MusicLegends #RockAndRollhttps://www.amazon.com/stores/Suzi-Ronson/author/B0CXJ9S28L?ref=ap_rdr&isDramIntegrated=true&shoppingPortalEnabled=truehttps://www.instagram.com/suzironson?igsh=Y3FobWFtNml6ZDUzhttps://www.facebook.com/share/16MPXz9Wqc/?mibextid=wwXIfrhttps://x.com/ronsonsuzi?s=21&t=Mzw5de5zsR-SDDbhyzH0Lg#classicrock #rockhistory #70smusic #musichistory #rockandroll #rocklegends
Send us a textRenowned rock and roll photographer Mick Rock, who has taken iconic photographs of David Bowie, Queen, Sex Pistols, Iggy Pop, Ramones, and especially Lou Reed, called in to discuss a limited-edition book of pictures and stories, Transformer, out now to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the LP that, with the magic help of David Bowie and Mick Ronson, launched Lou Reed into the hero status we know today. We only had 10 minutes for the interview, but I could listen to Mick tell Reed and Bowie stories all day. Mick sadly passed away in 2021 at age 72.
Send us a message, so we know what you're thinking! In case you hadn't noticed, we love a good cover version! This episode, we're looking at covers - staples, covers from strange sources, and some songs that have had a LOT of covers, including a bunch of covers of Bowie's “Heroes”. Our Album You Must Hear before You Die is “Is This It?” by The Strokes. This punk/Britpop-influenced album got rave reviews on release in 2001 from Rolling Stone, The Village Voice, and New Musical Express. We're not convinced. In Knockin' on Heaven's Door, we mourn the loss of Wayne Osmond (of the Osmond Brothers), Chad Morgan, the Aussie country great, and Peter Yarrow, of Peter, Paul and Mary. We hope they get to sing a rousing chorus of “Puff the Magic Dragon together. As usual, there's heaps of fun. Enjoy!! Send us a textThis week This Is Vinyl Tap discusses the criminally underrated album by Pure Prairie League, 1972's Bustin' Out. Bustin' Out contains the band's most well known song, "Aime," a radio staple for the last 50 years. Oddly, while even the most casual of music listeners know the song, many would be hard pressed to name the band that performs it. As a result, Bustin' Out has been somewhat ignored, which is a shame, because it is a fantastic collection of country infused rock songs. The album's secret weapon is David Bowie's guitarist Mick Ronson, who provides string arrangements and, some (uncredited) scorching guitar. While the band did move away from the rawer sound of their debut on Bustin' Out, the album is bit more mature and undeniably full of expert playing and fine, soulful vocals by front-man Craig Fuller that makes its influence on the alternative country bands of the early 1990's very apparent. The teenage Woody Woodmansey was offered the job of under-foreman in the Vertex spectacle factory in Hull but then got a call from Bowie inviting him to move to London and play drums on his new album - “plus food and somewhere to stay”. It took him all weekend to decide. And involved some cultural readjustment when he did. 56 years later he's a founding member of Holy Holy and touring the UK in May – along with Tony Visconti and Glenn Gregory – performing songs from Bowie's breakthrough early ‘70s albums. He talks here about … … the life-changing sound behind the silver door of an air-raid shelter in Driffield. … supporting the Kinks in Bridlington and the Herd at Leeds University - and why Peter Frampton told him, “I'll see you at the top”. ... his first paid gig at the local girls' school. … the Spiders' instructional group outings to see ballet, mime and theatre. ... “never more than three takes”: how Bowie wrote and recorded and the sketches he drew for their stage gear. … life at Haddon Hall and its “Gone With The Wind staircase”. … Yorkshire to London and the cultural collisions involved. … what Bowie realised was “the missing ingredient”. … Woody's checklist to assess Bowie's talents when he met him: “He wasn't Paul Rodgers or Roger Daltrey. He could write. He could communicate.” … “I'm not wearing that!” The day Mick Ronson packed his bags and left. Storsångarna vid nordsjökusten. När Ulf Henningsson och Åke Eriksson åter stiger iland på brittisk mark undrar de stillsamt hur det kommer sig att det samlat sig så många stora vokalister vid Yorkshires kust, kan det månne vara det rena och friska vattnet som tagit sig dit från Skandinavien? Staci's guest is the fabulous Suzi Ronson, author of a new memoir, "Me & Mr Jones." It's an excellent book about how she became David Bowie's stylist after helping create his iconic Ziggy Stardust hairstyle. She traveled the world with Bowie as his hairdresser, stylist, and confidante. She went on to marry Mick Ronson, the guitarist. Suzi has also worked with Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Bob Dylan, and John Mellencamp. She talks about how she became Bowie's stylist, shares some road stories, discusses the mores of the '70s, and fondly remembers her late husband.
Staci welcomes Madeline Bocaro, author of the new book, "In Your Mind - The Infinite Universe of Yoko Ono," With notable contributions to biographies and documentaries, including works on Iggy Pop, David Bowie, and Mick Ronson, she's gone deep into the lives of music legends. Her latest project aims to show all sides of Ms. Ono, not just her time with John Lennon. Madeline shares her thoughts on the recent May Pang documentary, addresses the Beatles' breakup, and the honor of having her book in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Library.
The influential British shredder talks about how he formed his playing style and demonstrates how to rip one of his most iconic leads. To hear Phil Collen tell it, he joined Def Leppard almost by accident. He had loaned the band one of his amps, and when they asked him to play some leads on their upcoming record Pyromania, Collen thought he was just doing his friends a solid. The rest is history. He and Shifty talk through Collen's formative years on guitar, where he soaked up the scorching playing of classic guitar heroes: Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore, Mick Ronson, Michael Schenker, and John Petrucci all played a hand in Collen's high-flying fretwork. How did Collen fit into the '80s arms race of speedy guitar playing? His participation might have had something to do with Thin Lizzy's Gary Moore. Collen's solo on “Photograph” is a perfect example of the sort of “ear candy” that producer Mutt Lange encouraged the band to chase in the studio—and yes, he did record individual notes to build a single guitar chord on Pyromania. But there weren't many tricks to Collen's sound on the solo. His Ibanez Destroyer and a 50-watt Marshall were all he needed to get the job done for the slick, Johnny Thunders-inspired solo. Tune in to see how he worked that two-piece setup to record one of the most influential guitar solos of the '80s. Click below to subscribe to the podcast! Suzi Ronson was working in a hairdressers in Beckenham in 1970 when a Mrs Jones dropped in for a shampoo and set talking gaily about her son, “an artistic boy who plays guitar and piano”. The same son who'd had a hit with Space Oddity and occasionally drifted down the High Road in a dress. Within weeks she'd become the first rock stylist, transforming Bowie's hair, image and stage clothes and launching him in the direction of Ziggy Stardust and an international audience. She was a key part of his entourage that toured the UK, America and Japan and she talks about later life married to Spiders' guitarist Mick Ronson, the role he played in Bowie's success and the trials of his solo career in its aftermath. Both this podcast and her memoir (Me And Mr Jones: My Life With David Bowie and the Spiders From Mars) look at Bowie's early career from a wholly new and original angle - in fact someone should base a film on it. A few highlights ... … Haddon Hall and its exotic inhabitants. … Schwarzkopf Red Hair Dye and other trade secrets. .. how it feels to see an audience with the haircut you invented. … expeditions to Liberty's and Mr Fish with Angie Bowie. … the Spiders' northern sensibilities adjusting to the brave new world. … how Tony Defries made Bowie mysterious and unreachable. … why Lou Reed was a revelation. … America's Southern states reacting to the 1972 tour. ... and the magnetism of Bob Dylan and why Mick Ronson ended the Rolling Thunder tour with an invoice not a wage packet. Jérôme Soligny in conversation with David Eastaugh In David Bowie Rainbowman, Jérôme Soligny tells the story of David Bowie the musician with the help of those intimately involved with the creation of his music. This uniquely exhaustive work on Bowie's 1967-1980 albums draws on over 150 interviews with the musicians, producers and friends who knew Bowie best, including Robert Fripp, Hermione Farthingale, Lou Reed, George Underwood, Mick Ronson, Carlos Alomar, Trevor Bolder, Mike Garson, Woody Woodmansey and many, many others. With an essay by Soligny on each album followed by oral histories from the most trusted and influential figures in Bowie's musical life, David Bowie Rainbowman is the definitive guide to a singular and mercurial genius - the Rainbowman himself.
Mick 'Ronno' Ronson may be the greatest sideman of all time. A brilliant producer and multi-instrumentalist, it is nonetheless his incredible guitar playing for which he will most be remembered (as well as excellent hair). Coming out of the glam era as its most important and respected player, he bolstered many famous careers with his taste, tone and touch - although his solo career sadly never really took off. If there was anyone who deserved more, it's Ronno...

Rockshow Episode 181 Mick Ronson Mick Ronson was a British musician, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for his work as the lead guitarist and musical collaborator for David Bowie in the early 1970s. Ronson's distinctive guitar playing and inventive arrangements played a significant role in shaping Bowie's sound during that era. Born on May 26, 1946, in Kingston upon Hull, England, Ronson began his career as a session musician, working with various artists and bands. He joined David Bowie's backing band, the Spiders from Mars, in 1970, and his contributions were vital to the success of Bowie's albums like "The Man Who Sold the World," "Hunky Dory," and "Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars." Mick Ronson's guitar work was characterized by his melodic lines, rich tones, and a keen sense of arrangement. His performances, both on stage and in the studio, were marked by a combination of technical prowess and emotional depth. Ronson's contributions extended beyond guitar playing, as he also arranged strings and played piano on several tracks. After parting ways with Bowie, Ronson went on to release his solo albums, including "Slaughter on 10th Avenue" in 1974 and "Play Don't Worry" in 1975. He continued to collaborate with various artists throughout his career, such as Ian Hunter, Bob Dylan, Morrissey, and many more. Tragically, Mick Ronson passed away on April 29, 1993, at the age of 46, due to liver cancer. However, his impact on music and his enduring influence as a guitarist and producer continue to be recognized and celebrated by fans and musicians alike. https://www.guitarplayer.com/players/mick-ronson-the-rise-and-fall-of-glam-rocks-greatest-guitarist https://www.allmusic.com/artist/mick-ronson-mn0000467853/biography #MickRonson #GuitarLegend #BowieCollaborator #RocknRollIcon #Ronno #SpidersFromMars #GlamRock #MusicLegend #GuitarHero #MusicInnovation Park Dental Care 12419 101st Ave South Richmond Hill Queens (718) 847-3800 https://www.718DENTISTS.com Please follow us on Youtube,Facebook,Instagram,Twitter,Patreon and at www.gettinglumpedup.com https://linktr.ee/RobRossi Get your T-shirt at https://www.prowrestlingtees.com/gettinglumpedup And https://www.bonfire.com/store/getting-lumped-up/ Subscribe to the channel and hit the like button This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/rob-rossi/support https://www.patreon.com/Gettinglumpedup

Legendary singer-songwriter, author, and rock ‘n' roll star Ian Hunter's illustrious career is now in its seventh decade. His rock ‘n' roll life has long been marked by collaboration, from the golden age of Mott the Hoople to his fabled partnership with Mick Ronson and 21st-century renaissance with his crack backing combo, the Rant Band. Over the years, Hunter has enjoyed numerous chart successes, especially Mott the Hoople's international hit “All the Young Dudes,” the David Bowie composition that emerged as a countercultural anthem in the 1970s. Hunter would later recount the trials and tribulations of his life with Mott the Hoople in his autobiography "Diary of a Rock 'n' Roll Star." During his solo career, Hunter's best known work includes the song "Once Bitten, Twice Shy", later covered by Great White, and "Cleveland Rocks,” (originally “England Rocks”) the popular theme song for "The Drew Carey Show." With his latest album DEFIANCE PART 1, Hunter takes creative solidarity to an unprecedented new level with accompaniment from a truly awe-inspiring roster of special guests, famous fans, and lifelong friends. DEFIANCE PART 1 sees backing from luminaries such as Ringo Starr, Jeff Beck, Todd Rundgren, Joe Elliott (of Def Leppard), Guns N' Roses' Slash, Jeff Tweedy and – in one of his final recordings – the Foo Fighters' late, great drummer Taylor Hawkins. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/everythingfabfour/support
