Policy and Advocacy Director at T1International, Shaina Kasper, joins Rob and Eritrea on the show to discuss a wide range of topics, including: * What $35 dollar insulin really means for people living with diabetes * It's been six months since insulin manufacturers announced that programs were being rolled out for co-pay caps but many patients are struggling to qualify for these benefits - whats going on? * Shaina's sister T1D diagnosis which led to her being in a clinical trial that actually diagnosed her with T1D as well * How rationing insulin led Shaina to looking for a diabetes community * Accessibility being easier in countries like Canada, Mexico and Europe * Rationing insulin with diabetes is not rare. Globally 1 in 4 patients with diabetes has rationed insulin * Policies like Affordable Insulin Now Act being introduced by Sen. Kennedy of Louisiana brings up $35 insulin caps for people who have private insurance, not just Medicare * The biggest issue with copay cap policies is that they don't always include private insurance, and it can create a reverse incentive for large manufacturers to raise cost of insulin because they know insurance will cover the difference * A price cap on insulin is the most important thing to help most people living with diabetes get access to these medications we need * If you have experience going into the pharmacy and are unable to get the lower priced insulin - write to your senator! * Most people believe that affordability problem around insulin has been solved, but were learning this isn't the case * Coupon cards and insulin savings cards don't always work; they're not replacements for good public policy * T1International is working on expanding Alex Law's at the state level to get emergency access to drugs and with expanding Kevin's Law to expand past the 42 states who have accepted it * If you are interested in sharing your personal diabetes-rationing story, please reach out to T1International who can help guide you on how to to share your story with your Senator. * Learn more about the T1International #insulin4all Summit happening on September 30, 2023. We want to hear from you. Send those questions, comments, queries, and general diabetes concerns to THE MAILBAG at mailbag@diabeticsdoingthings.com!

In this week's episode Robbie talks to student upholsterer Debbie Cave. From being a teenager, Debbie always had a passion for crafting, initially wanting a career in cabinet making. Tune in to discover how a chance find on Amazon's bookshelves led to Debbie finding Alex Law's course and beginning her journey in to upholstery, and why she thinks you shouldn't let anything hold you back from giving things a go!

In Stitches - The Upholstery Podcast that tells the story of the skill that lies beneath the covers!
In this week's episode, Robbie and Alex chat about their experiences of having dyslexia, and how they haven't let it stop them from carving out successful careers, despite the challenges it brings. We find out why Alex believes that Upholsterers are merely custodians of knowledge, on which they should make their own mark before handing it over to others. And we hear how an introduction to beach cleaning has resulted in some surprising (and environmentally friendly!) projects for Alex. If variety is the spice of life, you definitely won't be disappointed with this week's episode!

Recorded June 3, 2016. Is it really "the biggest joke of the day" for Bernie Sanders to claim that California Governor Jerry Brown is a member of the Establishment? Senator Barbara Boxer, the five-million dollar woman who has taken over $70 million in donations over her career certainly thinks so. We help Senator Boxer understand the meaning of "establishment politician" so that next time she looks in a mirror she'll get the punchline. How many lobbyists can you fit into the Democratic National Convention? As outlined in podcasts 48 and 49 , the Democratic Party is testing the limits, and now Hillary Clinton and Debbie Wasserman Schultz add more with their "progressive" picks for the Platform Writing Committee. President Obama has been backing establishment Congressional candidates like Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Donald Norcross over progressives like Tim Canova and Alex Law. Looks like the well-intentioned presidential candidate of 2008 has become the "pragmatic progressive" of 2016, saying one thing but doing the exact opposite to satisfy the demands of the donor class. This Anti-Establishment episode should give you the motivation to keep working for Bernie Sanders, his causes and down ballot progressives to make certain that the legislators we vote in are, like Bernie, NOT FOR SALE! Here's a link to the great HuffPo article mentioned in the show: How to Explain the Sanders Campaign to an Idiot, Paul Krugman or a Clintonite in 8 Sentences. *********** The What Would Bernie Sanders Do Podcast is Dr. Barry Kaufman with Host Darren Stephens and is produced in Chicago by Ruth Kaufman. Hillary Clinton has been caught in massive lies about her private email server, as detailed in the State Dept's IG report issued yesterday- described as "devasting" by many including Carl Bernstein, Andrea Mitchell and Chuck Todd. We'll have all the details on why this IS a big story. Vice News' Jason Leopold (aka the FOIA Terrorist) who filed the first FOIA requests for Clinton's emails guests. Plus, Bernie-crat Alex Law, candidate for Congress from NJ, visits in hour 1.
This episode focuses on media bias against Bernie Sanders from both MSNBC and Fox News. Additionally, we tackle disputes between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton; she hit him on his tax returns (or lack thereof), and he criticized her for having an interventionist foreign policy. We also talk about how establishment politician Donald Norcross in New Jersey is trying to hijack the progressive revolution by claiming to have been endorsed by Bernie Sanders. We have his opponent, Alex Law, back on the podcast to refute this false claim. The nature of Hillary Clinton's FBI investigation will also be discussed. These topics as well as others will be talked about in this episode. Enjoy!
Recorded April 29th, 2016. Bernie's laying off of part of his campaign staff finally gets him widespread media coverage, but the real story is the good news that many of those staffers are already organizing to get progressives who align with Bernie's platform into Congress. Regardless of the math, here is more proof that this is not the end, but only the beginning of a return to core Democratic values. Dr K is not quite ready to accept Hillary's invitation to join her "pragmatic progressive" movement. Clinton says she wants to bring people together and not tear them apart, but apparently only if you come together with Establishment Democrats to throw millions of low and middle-income Americans under the bus when it comes to healthcare, education and child care. And we talk to a TRUE PROGRESSIVE (like Senator Sanders) who at the age of 25 has a novel and innovative means of winning a grassroots congressional campaign against a Democratic machine politician in New Jersey. ALEX LAW is the future of the progressive political revolution, again showing how Bernie's candidacy is transforming politics from the ground up. See Alex's incredibly comprehensive and educational website at www.alexlawforcongress.com to see how you can get involved in his grassroots campaign. In this episode we talk about the fraud and voter suppression efforts in Arizona, and how it caused Bernie Sanders to lose that state. Additionally, we discuss Bernie Sanders' lawsuit against the DNC as well as allegations from a Bernie staffer in North Carolina that claims Hillary supporters have infiltrated Bernie's campaign and attempted to sabotage it. These stories and more are covered in this episode.
