Welcome to Season 6, Episode 31! Today's guest came from an artistic family, but also was literally discovered on the streets of Tokyo which gave a huge boost to his career. Actor, writer, and producer Gabriel Prevost-Takahashi was born in Tokyo, spent time in Canada while growing up, and has worked on stage and screen for film and television.   Gabriel has appeared in projects ranging from the survival thriller Something in the Water to one of the most acclaimed television series of recent years, FX's Shōgun, where he played a Gray Guard and had the opportunity to work on a production celebrated for putting Japanese language, actors, and culture at the center of its storytelling. More recently, Gabriel can be seen on Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender in the recurring role of Lieutenant Khettry, a soldier serving on the front lines of Ba Sing Se. Gabriel is also interested in creating stories himself. As a writer and producer, he has been developing projects including Go For Broke, a limited series exploring the experiences of Japanese American soldiers during World War II, as well as other film and television projects that give him opportunities both in front of and behind the camera. In our conversation we take time to talk about his background, the impact of getting noticed on the streets by legendary photographer Leslie Kee, what it was like for him to join a project like Shōgun, the responsible of being part of a global phenomena like Avatar: The Last Airbender, his hopes with Go For Broke, and much more. Desde Radio Exterior nos sumamos a ese esfuerzo para analizar su recorrido desde una vertiente latinoamericana, que está muy presente en todo el recorrido y también en la propia biografía del Papa, un estadounidense nacionalizado peruano que durante décadas sirvió como misionero agustino y obispo en el país andino.El reputado vaticanista chileno Luis Badilla analiza la figura de Robert Prevost, su distancia con el legado del papa Francisco y también sus mensajes en clave más política y su oposición a Trump en pleno auge de los nacionalismos, los populismos y el odio al migrante. "Prevost hace política porque, como él mismo ha dicho, la política es un servicio de caridad al bien común". "León XIV tiene una plataforma política entusiasmante y cristalina", agrega. La visita del Papa León XIV a España llegará después de la publicación de su polémica encíclica. Es el viaje más importante de los realizados hasta la fecha por el papa Prevost, que llega a un país de enorme tradición católica pero en el cual está cayendo el número de creyentes. El papa León XIV recibe este jueves al secretario de Estado estadounidense, Marco Rubio, apenas semanas después de las duras críticas al pontífice por parte del presidente Donald Trump. Esta visita a Roma y el Vaticano se lee como un intento de descongelar las frías relaciones entre la administración Trump y el sumo pontífice. León XIV fue elegido papa hace justo un año, y en lo que lleva de pontificado se ha caracterizado por el choque frontal con el Gobierno de Donald Trump. El pontífice estadounidense dijo que la amenaza de Trump de destruir Irán era inaceptable, Trump respondió que no era fan de León XIV y lo calificó de débil y terrible. Marco Rubio es católico así que la visita puede tender puentes, analiza Manuel Camilo González Vides, profesor de Relaciones Internacionales de la Universidad de San Buenaventura en Bogotá: “Los interlocutores son muy cercanos. Marco Rubio es católico y esto permitiría un acercamiento mucho más próximo, mucho más cálido, después del conflicto que se ha tenido”. “Obviamente creo que la parte difícil de la conversación puede ser hasta qué punto el Vaticano puede alinearse con las políticas de Washington. Creo que eso puede ser una línea roja que seguramente tendrán que superar ambas partes para restablecer la relación”, prosigue el especialista. ¿Posturas irreconciliables? Las posturas parecen irreconciliables también en otros puntos, puesto que el papa ha sido muy crítico con las políticas migratorias del presidente: “Creo que hay dos situaciones que están muy hiladas: una es la propia experiencia personal del papa antes de ser papa, y es que ciertamente el cardenal Prevost en ese entonces tuvo mucho contacto con comunidades indígenas, que han sufrido marginalización y violencia, y que por obvias razones se han visto obligadas a migrar. Eso lo acerca mucho a la experiencia del migrante y del acompañamiento de la Iglesia católica en este tema, que es un tema muy espinoso. Creo que se mantienen esas líneas de oposición a las políticas muy autoritarias en términos de migración que ha colocado el presidente Donald Trump”, explica asimismo el profesor de Relaciones Internacionales. Marco Rubio pidió también verse con Giorgia Meloni, aunque a Trump no le gustó que la primera ministra italiana saliera en defensa del papa tras sus ataques. “Marco Rubio va a jugar un poco a decir ‘bueno, nosotros ya hemos desistido de aniquilar toda una civilización', como dijo Trump, pero buscará tratar el entendimiento de que efectivamente lo que sucede en el estrecho de Ormuz es un asunto global, que tiene implicaciones globales, y seguramente será la línea que tratará de enfocar hacia el Papa León XIV, no tanto como líder espiritual, sino como jefe de Estado”, concluye González Vides.

Bien, pues si para algo nos está sirviendo lo que estamos viendo es para constatar, por si algún ingenuo aún tuviera alguna duda, que la tan cacareada vuelta a lo católico, a la hora de la verdad, consistía en dejar al Papa solo ante los ataques de la extrema derecha y ante las amenazas de Trump que, recordemos, no solo ha insultado y humillado a Prevost sino que, además, le ha instado a que se someta forzosamente a su poder bajo amenaza de coacción militar contra el Vaticano.Esa cobardía que vemos en parte del mundo católico tiene especial importancia porque el Papa pidió expresamente que no le dejaran solo en su oposición a la guerra. Pero los jóvenes que buscaban a Dios, al final, solo querían cantar y ver a Rosalía, Carlos. Y ligar, claro. Y si para ligar tienen que cantar «tú has venido a la orilla», pues lo cantan. Pero, en realidad, habrían cantado hasta el himno del PSOE, el de Vangelis, si eso les asegura un buen ‘match'. Y hacen bien, por cierto.Más me preocupa el silencio táctico de parte del mundo católico, ese que se decía muy creyente, pero que, al final, tras la cruz del logo solo escondía una agenda política. Es especialmente triste que sus críticas al Papa vengan precisamente por plantar cara a los criminales y por ponerse del lado de los pobres, de los inmigrantes y de la paz, es decir, de la vida. Aunque para algunos, ser pro-vida consista en bombardear países.León tiene algo que algunos no le perdonarán: el tipo sigue a Jesús, qué cosas. No solo entiende su mensaje, sino que, además, se lo cree. "Una religión sin piedad es un escándalo a los ojos de Dios", dijo ayer, en Argelia. ¡Qué bochorno, piedad! ¿Qué será lo siguiente, Carlos? ¿Decir que nos amemos los unos a los otros? Prevost's election reflects his close alignment with Pope Francis's vision on issues like the environment, poverty, and synodality. We'll see what he does, but hopefully, he is more along the lines of John Paul II. His extensive missionary work in Peru and fluency in multiple languages were likely factors in his selection by the papal conclave. Later, President Trump's deal with Britain really is a very big deal. It's part of his strategy to open worldwide markets and create a more market-oriented global economy, which is why it is pro-capitalism and more free-market oriented. He imposed tariffs and reciprocity on other countries for leverage to force them to lower their tariffs and reduce foreign government subsidies of their businesses. Trump is creating the most open market system in modern world history. Afterward, Sen Tom Cotton calls in to explain that any new nuclear deal with Iran that does not involve the complete dismantlement of its nuclear program will not pass the Senate. Republicans agree with Trump that Iran needs to completely dismantle their program.  Finally, Rishi Arun, president of Temple University's Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), stated that it is their mission to destroy imperialism, the United States, and capitalism. Mohammed Khatib, from the designated terror organization Samidoun, said that liberating Palestine would be a step toward dismantling the United States.
