State of the Arts Episode 17! Women's History Month Special: A Loving Memorial Episode for Yoga Master, Political Activist, Ballroom Dancer, High Fashion Model, Author, Wine Connoisseur and Hollywood Actress Tao Porchon-Lynch (1918-2020). My guests this week are Tao Porchon-Lynch's protégés and spiritual family members, Renee Diamond and Joanna Rajendran. Together we remember a timeless icon who transcended all commonly acknowledged limits of life and who has left a most extraordinary legacy. Tao Porchon-Lynch, whose mother was Indian and father was French, began training in yoga as a child in Puducherry, India against her family's wishes. She was a part of the French Resistance during World War II, helping Jews escape from the Nazis. Trained by Sir Noël Peirce Coward, she was a cabaret dancer and actress who performed for the Allied troops in dangerous combat zones. She also trained over 2,000 USO entertainers to perform for the military. Eventually she signed a contract with MGM studios. "The Last Time I Saw Paris" and "Showboat" were two of the various movies she appeared in. She worked as a high-fashion model in France, where her family owned wineries. Studying under Yogis, B. K. S. Iyengar and Pattabhi Jois in India whenever she could, she brought her knowledge back to Hollywood. Many movie stars were trained in Yoga by Tao. She joined family friend, Mahandus Gandhi, in marches for justice. In 1963 she attended Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s March for Jobs and Freedom in Washington D.C. She spoke at a peace panel alongside the Dhali Lama and several Nobel Laureates. In 1962, she married New Yorker Bill Lynch who was in the insurance industry and moved to Westchester, New York. Together they established The American Wine Society and wine appreciation magazine, The Beverage Communicator. She became a full-time Yogi at this point in her life. Passionate about saving wildlife, especially elephants, she was active in wildlife conservation as well. At 87, she began training in international-style ballroom dancing, eventually winning over 700 Pro-Am first place titles. Her other accomplishments included ascending to the second round on America's Got Talent with her ballroom dance partner who was 70-years her junior, holding the record in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the world's oldest yoga instructor and writing her autobiography "Dancing Light." I was blessed to have known Tao for a brief period of time when I attended a few parties and was in a showcase with her at The Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Hartsdale. I took some of her yoga classes during this time, which was a life-changing experience. There was a Latin competitive ballroom dress she owned that she thought would look perfect on me and we just happen to be the same dress size. So, she brought her dress into the studio the next time she saw me and just gave it to me! I've worn it recently for my promotional photo shoot. Tao Porchon-Lynch has made an impact on the lives of thousands of people, myself included. She led a life that was larger than life. With great honor, I dedicate this podcast episode to the beautiful legend who is Tao Porchon-Lynch.

In the episode of Wine and Dime I chat with Nancy Stabins. Nancy is the Regional Vice President of the American Wine Society. Is it any surprise that I asked her to be on the show?! Talk about doing what you love and love what you do...Nancy and her husband (a wine judge) have explored the world through their passion for wine.  Although Nancy and I geek out about wine, we also explore how Nancy, who is an RN, turned her son’s diagnosis at a young age into a successful integrative medicine business.  My favorite quote from this recording is, “May we never know the disease we prevent.” Wine:  Nancy - too many to mention - https://www.vinfolio.com/2008-Vieux-Telegraphe-Chateauneuf-du-Pape-La-Crau?quantity=1&custcol_vf_bottlesize=2 (https://www.vinfolio.com/2008-Vieux-Telegraphe-Chateauneuf-du-Pape-La-Crau?quantity=1&custcol_vf_bottlesize=2) Amy - Lake Kueka (Lake Kueka Wine Company) in Hammondsport: https://shop.bullyhillvineyards.com/product?productid=DAEA0573-7605-4FB8-9CA7-64FDC8EE321C (https://shop.bullyhillvineyards.com/product?productid=DAEA0573-7605-4FB8-9CA7-64FDC8EE321C) Contact Information: https://americanwinesociety.org/ (https://americanwinesociety.org/) http://www.naturalalternativeswebster.com/ (http://www.naturalalternativeswebster.com/) Full show Notes can be found at: https://www.rootedpg.com/wine-and-dime-podcast (https://www.rootedpg.com/wine-and-dime-podcast)

Ever walk into a wine store and wonder what all the labels mean? Looking for a way to upgrade your Labor Day celebration without spending a ton of money? Today, wine expert Dave Falchek from the American Wine Society joins us to talk all things vino. How do you pick a wine? What are some clues that a wine is good for your party? What do those ratings mean in a wine shop? What wines go best with burgers and dogs? We'll answer all of those questions and more on today's show! In our headlines segment, we'll find out why a half a ton of weed was returned to the seller as it was going public. One new billion-dollar pot company is to blame, and the stock price isn't looking great. What does this mean for cannibis stocks in general? Of course, Joe and OG both have opinions. Also, a recent New York Times piece shares how the next recession might start. We'll walk through the possibilities and also maybe look into the crystal ball ourselves. After a little dose of Doug's trivia, we'll throw out the Haven Life Line to Peter, who wants to know if he made a mistake by taking his Roth IRA fund out to help pay for real estate.
