Fasten your seatbelts, folks! In this mini, we're diving into a wild discovery from the Smithsonian: climate change is turning our flights into rollercoaster rides! Scientists say that as the planet heats up, we can expect more frequent and severe turbulence. Imagine that—more time spent clinging to your armrests and praying for a smooth landing. Thanks, global warming! We'll explore how warmer air is messing with the jet stream, creating those unexpected bumps in the sky. And don't worry, it's not like planes are going to start falling out of the sky, but your in-flight snack might not agree with the extra turbulence. So, next time you're on a flight, remember: it's not just the weather that's getting hotter, but the ride too!
Isaac Hodgins admits he's not sure he would have had Trent Brays' go-for-it guts late in Oregon State's 41-38 win over Washington State. But the Beavers' former defensive end liked the result, as well as the subtle differences on defense that made a difference. The Oregonian/OregonLive's Nick Daschel and Hodgins discussed everything that went into an OSU win that ended a five-game losing streak. In the late summer of 1944, the small town of Mattoon, Illinois, became the epicentre of one of the most bizarre mysteries in American history. Residents reported a series of gas attacks—phantom prowlers using strange fumes that caused paralysis, illness, and widespread panic. Dubbed the "Mad Gasser of Mattoon," the story gripped the town for two weeks, with chilling eyewitness accounts and physical evidence fueling the fear. Then, just as quickly as it began, the attacks stopped, leaving more questions than answers. Was it all mass hysteria, sparked by the tensions of World War II? Or was there a real attacker lurking in the shadows? Join us as we uncover the facts, explore the theories, and ask: What really happened in Mattoon? If you enjoyed this episode, you might also like:

Hello and welcome to another episode of the Perception Podcast with me your host Caroline Partridge. In this episode, I talk to theatre director, puppet whisperer, author and Artistic Director of Theatre-Rites, Sue Buckmaster. Sue is often asked to speak about the high profile projects that she's working on but in this fascinating conversation we talk about all the things that have formed her, from her extraordinary family background, to her deep desire to better herself and the debilitating illness that changed the course of her career. Sue also shares what she thinks are the ingredients that make a good puppeteer, the place of politics in children's theatre and why we as humans respond so emotionally to puppets. Please join me as we look at life through a different lens. KEY TAKEAWAYS Puppetry is a powerful art form that allows audiences to project their emotions onto objects, creating a deep connection and cathartic experience. Children's theatre is often undervalued but provides a unique opportunity to engage young minds, sparking their imagination and encouraging them to question the world around them. Embracing your personal struggles, such as illness or lack of education, can lead to a more profound understanding of yourself and ultimately enrich your artistic practice. The rehearsal process is a crucial part of creating theatre, allowing for experimentation, failure, and growth, which ultimately leads to a more authentic and impactful final product. Access to the arts, both for audiences and practitioners, is essential for fostering a more inclusive and understanding society. Spirituality, magic, and the feminine power are important elements in Sue's work, allowing her to explore deeper themes and connect with audiences on a more profound level. Process is often more important than the final product in theatre, as it allows for personal and artistic growth, as well as the development of meaningful relationships. Politics in children's theatre is about allowing young people to practice being political beings, questioning the world around them and forming their own opinions. BEST MOMENTS "I didn't have any energy. What energised me, what could I watch or do that made me feel like I had some? And then I gradually got some, and what did that really feel like?" "Children's theatre is young people practising to be political beings. They haven't decided yet. That's why I quite like hanging out with them." "It's human nature to connect. And, you know, it's important that we think of the earth as, and nature as this object, that this, this exchange of energy that it holds up." "I can proudly own many parts of myself. Um, but thankfully to women now who are doing what they're doing now, I love women now and artists now. I'm so grateful to them, and I would do anything to imbue them more with more power, um, for the good, for the good." "Rehearsals are just the tipping moment when you're sorting it out. It's like rehearsal. I think people tend to go, oh, it takes four weeks to make that show. And that's the wrong thing. So that's why I like to talk more about process, process as product." ABOUT THE GUEST Dr Sue Buckmaster is the Artistic Director of Theatre-Rites, a puppetry expert and the fifth generation of theatre practitioners in her family. Since 1996 she has directed over 30 site-specific and theatre productions for Theatre-Rites including: the award-winning Mischief, a co-production with Sadler's Wells and the Dance Touring Partnership and The Welcoming Party a co-production with Manchester International Festival and the Ruhrtriennale Festival. In 2023 Sue directed an adapted version of Zoe's Peculiar Journey Through Time (originally a co-production with Burgtheater Vienna); created Something In The Air, a co-production with Schauspeilhaus Bochum, and in 2024 she directed Journey of a Refugee for Croydon Borough of Culture (an adaptation of The Welcoming Party). In 2021, with Dr Liam Jarvis, she co-authored the book Theatre-Rites Animating Puppets, Objects and Sites. Two reasons this podcast exist: Film Junk and Patrick Ripoll. So I'm always grateful when Patrick returns since he's the OG co-host of this show. He's always doing killer work with Reg on 96 Greers that I highly recommend. But I vividly recall two moments of the past decade: his love of Clouds of Sils Maria and my love for Personal Shopper. Made a mental note to put French filmmaker Olivier Assayas on the list of potential directors and the time has come to cover him. He will have a movie out later this year but there are plenty of past titles and new discoveries for both of us to discuss even if ultimately, he didn't become an all-time favorite for either of us. We cover the majority of his filmography and have plenty of laughs along the way! Thank you to Patrick for being a consistently smart, insightful guest with plenty to say. No new episode in April but you'll get two special ones in May featuring Bill Ackerman early in the month and then Mitchell Beaupre later in the month! A major change in this cover version is the format of the lyrics. Something in the Air is a fairly ominous call to arms. The original was released in May of 1969 when the Vietnam War was still raging at its most furious. Speedy Keen said that told ZigZag magazine in 1975 of the song "It was a reflection of what I was seeing at the time". But rather than using the overtly observational third verse and the line “Hand out the arms and ammo. We're gonna blast our way through here”, Tom repeats the first. He also switches up the first line of the second verse from the sinister “Lock up the streets and houses Because there's something in the air” to the much more optimistic and carefree “Run through the fields and houses because there's something in the air”. If ever you have to try to define the word zeitgeist, using “something in the air” as a synonym is pretty much the best you can do in my opinion and this is why Tom is able to co-opt an observation on the vietnam war into a song that carries a much more hopeful tenor.Today's episode covers the second single from the Greatest Hits release, "Something in the Air".Song video : https://youtu.be/8J7yTze4Xbs Live Anthology version : https://youtu.be/ejagbjZRlAY Fish version : https://youtu.be/VaU-XY0www4 Thunderclap Newman version : https://youtu.be/T59hsln7nlc The podcast I promoted in this week's episode, Booked on Rock, can be found here: https://shows.acast.com/podcastwillrockThe Tom Petty Project is a proud member of The Deep Dive Podcast Network, which you can find on Twitter: https://twitter.com/deepdivepodnetDon't forget to follow me on social media, like, subscribe, and please, leave a rating if you like the show:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thetompettyprojectTwitter: https://twitter.com/TomPettyProjectInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/thetompettyproject/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt6BLRWuuAR43zHpNKIirOwAll music, including the theme song, provided by my very best friend Randy Woods. Our air is a complex soup of ingredients – which impacts the health of all of us, our economy, and our climate. But those health burdens are not shared equally. They disproportionately impact children, the elderly, and lower-income or historically marginalized communities. What does it mean to have equal and fair access to clean air? And when emotions are high, people's health is at risk, and tradeoffs need to be made, how do we solve this complex problem? This is episode one of Clearing the Air, a podcast about air pollution in Colorado and beyond, and how we are navigating this complex problem that knows no borders. Family Theater was a dramatic anthology radio show which aired on the Mutual Broadcasting System in the United States from February 13, 1947, to September 11, 1957. The show was produced by Family Theater Productions, a film and radio studio extension of the Family Rosary Crusade founded by the Holy Cross Priest, Father Patrick Peyton, CSC, to promote family prayer. The motto of these Holy Cross Family Ministries is, "The family that prays together, stays together." The program had no commercial sponsor, yet Father Peyton, CSC arranged for many of Hollywood's stars in film and radio at the time to appear. In its ten-year run, well-known actors, and actresses, including James Stewart, Bob Hope, Lucille Ball, Raymond Burr, Jane Wyatt, Charlton Heston, Bing Crosby, Jack Benny, Gene Kelly, William Shatner, and Chuck Connors, appeared as announcers, narrators, or stars. A total of 540 episodes were produced. For the first time since January, we had a month with below average temperatures in October. Atlantic City International Airport wound up 1.2 degrees below average, while Sen. Frank S. Farley Marina wound up 1 degree below. This was our coolest October since 2015. Much of that had to do with the first 10 days of the month. 50s and 60s were common when average highs were around 70 degrees. The chilly air was due to a six day long nor'easter. Wind, coastal flooding, locally major beach erosion and record rain fell. Daily rainfall records were broken on Oct. 2 and 3 for the airport (3.01 and 1.57 inches, respectively) and the marina (4.02 and 1.62 inches, respectively). Meanwhile, Millville saw record rainfall on Oct. 3. That led to October being the fourth wettest month in record history for both the airport and the marina. Records date back to 1943 at the airport and, more impressively, 1873 at the marina. The rain put an end to the drought in most of South Jersey. As of the start of the month, only southern Cape May County was still in drought. Hollywood Fringe 2022: SOMETHING IN THE AIR @ Hudson Theatre - Review 6.9 out of 10 - Okay!. www.latheatrebites.com Where is the in-between? In the wake of the anti-Asian hate crimes across our country, Something In The Air is a play that focuses on the lives of eight very different Asian/Asian-American college students living in America. These eight individuals come from different walks of life and from all over the diaspora, representing the diverse realities of AAPI college students in the country. They arrive at the infamous Denver Airport, ready to take flight for spring break, and, given its otherworldly nature– are forced to deal with issues within fiction and reality. A story that combines mystery, conspiracy theories, myths, and generational stories.

Episode 78 - "Something in The Air Tonight” Brian joins us for our first official video episode! Trust me, he does not disappoint. Every episode will just keep getting better! Hollywood here we come! Stay tuned because before you can now see our handsome mugs on video! That's right we will now be producing an audio and video version of your favorite podcast! Happening before you can count to avocado! Some weeks it seems like 60 minutes is just not enough time to discuss all of the absurdity we encounter in a single week! However, we do our best to give you our opinions on all the craziness that is today's society. Be warned that this episode is a bit politically heavy, but we do throw some additional really funny bits out here and there. Skunky beer and all. There is nothing better for first responders then sitting down with a few cold beers and letting it all out. This would probably be much better if we weren't so darn weird! Not that there is anything wrong with that! Thank you for listening and we truly hope we have provided you some sort of entertainment over these last 12 months. For the next few weeks I will be doing a Throwback Tuesdays/Thursdays where I re-release old episodes from the archives. So don't worry if you have heard it already as a 'New episodes' will continue to come out on Sundays. The idea is to get some of the old episodes heard as they have very little downloads from the first season, compared to newer episodes.~~~Our first guest is Kellie from the state of Georgia, with a sighting of a very large triangle-shaped object that passed over her car and that left her wondering if there is a connection with the paranormal activity in her house that followed his sighting. Then we move on to Richard from Dublin Ireland, his experiences occurred in Italy where he was living at the time. And it was a series of encounters that happened over a period of two weeks, near and around a mountain called 'Monte Morello' known for it's UFO' activity. And an unusual sighting of a USO on a Pisa Beach.
