We resume our week by looking at the post-resurrection accounts of Jesus and seeing his encounter with Thomas. As you've probably heard me say before, I think Thomas gets a bad rap because of his doubt.  Most, if not all, of us will doubt at some point; this teaches us the power of finding faith, even in our struggles. Thomas, though, has to let go of his hurt and disappointment to truly find God's power. That's a great example for us as well.  For us to live into the future God has for us, we often have to let go of the past. We continue looking at Jesus's post-resurrection encounters, and today we see Him coming to the disciples in John 20. This is one of my favorite passages from John. It talks about the disciples meeting together, but their doors were locked out of fear. I think that's such a powerful image. How often do we lock the doors, especially the doors of our hearts, out of fear? But even there, Jesus can find us. Maundy Thursday is one of my “favorite” days of the church year. I put that in parentheses because it's also a hard day. The day Jesus was betrayed. The day the journey to the cross really picks up speed. So, before He leaves, Jesus shows us what matters.  Service. Presence. And Love.  They will know we are His disciples not by our opinions, our politics, or our worship. But by our love. That was His command. Love. And that is how the world will know that we are His. The prophet Malachi says that a prophet will come before the Messiah to make things ready. We see this in his prophecy today.  In Matthew, Jesus specifically quotes that prophecy when talking about John the Baptist.  He says that John is Elijah. In doing this, Jesus does two things. First, He shows us that John is the fulfillment of that prophecy. But secondly, if John is the one who will make things ready for the Messiah, Jesus is saying this - He is the Messiah. He is the one that all the prophets are pointing to. In this, Jesus is not just saying who John is. He is saying who He is.    Join us for our daily reflections with Andy. Andy-John Kalkounos is a restaurateur, actor, real estate professional, and currently serving as the Palatine Township Supervisor. They discuss Ben & Jerry's controversial tweet on July 4th stating that the US should return the stolen indigenous land we live on, Eric Schmitt pledging to keep a close eye on the Biden admin after a judge blocked the White Houses communications with social media companies to avoid First Amendment violations, and the White House trying to hunt down the cocaine culprit.

La canción del "Misionero" de Eurythmics nos recuerda ese mismo año 1986 en la voz de Annie Lennox, el pecado que hace necesario el rescate del Evangelio y el respeto que merece el misionero. Acabamos el programa con el emocionante llamado de Keith Green a responder al "Mandamiento de Jesús a ir" en el álbum póstumo que publicó su viuda en 1984, tras partir él de este mundo con 26 años, al estrellarse la avioneta en que viajaba dos años antes.

Helen Mark follows Snowdonia Marathon and meets some of the people tackling this challenging course. Starting and finishing in Llanberis, the race encircles Wales' highest mountain of Snowdon, and rises to over a thousand feet in places. Andy John, Bishop of Bangor is taking on the Marathon for the third time, and he describes the sensation from running the course as being lost in the landscape but found in yourself. But he's dreading the twenty-two mile mark when he'll reach the 1200ft climb at Bwlch y Groes or "gap of the cross", before descending back into Llanberis for the finish. Helen stops at the ten-mile mark to meet Arwyn Owen at Hafod y Llan farm to find out how Hydro-Electric Power is the new cash crop in this rugged environment. She also meets Phil Owen at Llechwedd Caverns to discover how the area became the slate-mining capital of the world. Both Phil's Father and Grandfather worked in the mine, but Phil became a musician and serenades Helen on his ukulele, three hundred feet below the surface. Helen hands out water and energy gels with volunteers from the Snowdonia Society at the halfway point in Beddgelert and speaks to Margaret Thomas about Esme Kirby, the remarkable woman who set-up the organisation, before returning to Llanberis to greet a weary Andy John as he's crosses the finishing line.
