New figures, provided by the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Norma Foley, show that on average, the state spends €2.75m per day on accommodation for people applying for international protection. An Ennis Soroptimist is seeking supports from the government for people who have experienced domestic violence. Clare County Council has announced that they will be joining with Ennis & District Soroptimists to highlight a United Nations campaign to end violence against women and girls. The most recent Aontu report shows that Gardaí in Clare received over 800 reports of domestic violence in the space of a year. With the annual campaign launching tomorrow, Fianna Fail Councillor Clare Colleran Molloy urging women that find themselves in this situation to speak out.

Aontu's Midwest representative is calling for a 'substantial increase' to the household electricity credits due to be paid next year. Eric Nelligan says there's still time to pass the change through the Oireachtas.
A bill is being introduced in the Dail calling for a minimum 10-month prison sentence for stealing a family pet. For more on this, Shane was joined on the show by Aontu leader, Peader Toibin who has been instrumental in introducing this bill.
Fresh concerns are being raised about whether there are adequate numbers of Gardai serving in county Clare. This county's Garda Division currently has the third lowest number of personnel in the country. There are 310 Gardai assigned to this county as of the end of September. Clare has one Chief Superintendent, two Superintendents, ten inspectors, 58 sergeants and 239 rank-and-file Gardai. Only the joint Sligo/Leitrim division, along with Cork West, have lower numbers of personnel than this county. PRO for the Aontu party in the Midwest region, Eric Nelligan, believes the number of resignations and retirements are now higher than new recruits. Meanwhile Sixmilebridge-based Fine Gael Councillor John Crowe is confident numbers will filter into this county in 2023.
