Stay connected with us at americangroundradio.com, on Facebook, and Instagram. You're listening to American Ground Radio with Stephen Parr and Louis R. Avallone. This is the full show for February 20, 2026. 0:30 Today, we reflect on the life and legacy of Jesse Jackson — civil rights leader, founder of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, two-time presidential candidate, and a man who undeniably shaped America’s political and cultural conversation for decades. But the debate today isn’t about whether he mattered. It’s about whether he meets the historic threshold for one of the nation’s highest ceremonial honors: lying in honor in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. After Mike Johnson declined a request to grant that distinction, critics cried partisanship. We slow the conversation down and ask a deeper question: What is the standard? The Rotunda is reserved for figures deemed central to the constitutional story of the United States — a rare honor previously extended to individuals such as Rosa Parks, Billy Graham, and even Pierre Charles L'Enfant. So where is the line between influence and national consensus? Between impact and constitutional significance? We discuss Jackson’s contributions, his controversies, and the broader principle at stake: preserving the Rotunda as sacred civic space — not a stage for popularity or partisanship. 9:30 Plus, we cover the Top 3 Things You Need to Know. The US Supreme Court struck down President Trump's use of Tariffs without congressional authorization. The United States and Indonesia finalized a bilateral trade agreement today that will lower tariffs between the two countries to 19%. Jesse Jackson's body will not lie in state under the Capital Rotunda.Jackson's family had requested that his body be allowed to lie in state, but that request was denied by Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson. 12:30 Get Prodovite Plus from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. Go to vni.life/agr and use the promo code AGR20. 13:00 The Supreme Court of the United States handed down a 6–3 decision striking down President Donald Trump’s tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). The Court made clear: that particular statute can’t be used as the vehicle for those tariffs. But that didn’t end the story. Within hours, the administration pivoted — announcing a new 10% tariff under the Trade Act of 1974, a separate law that explicitly grants the president temporary tariff authority. In fact, even members of the Court noted there are other statutory paths available. So what are we witnessing — constitutional chaos or constitutional chess? 16:00 We got a question for the American Mamas: “I’m so glad I grew up in the ’80s. How can you keep up with all the trends today?” It sparks a lively (and hilarious) walk down memory lane as Teri Netterville and Kimberly Burleson join us to compare the universal “just knew it” culture of the 1980s with today’s lightning-fast, social-media-driven world. From slang that changes overnight to the pressure of documenting everything online, we explore how growing up before smartphones may have been a hidden blessing. The conversation turns to modern milestones — over-the-top weddings, pricey bachelorette trips, elaborate gender reveals — and how platforms like TikTok and Twitter have transformed private celebrations into public productions. What used to be punch, mints, and a phone call has become curated content and camera-ready moments. It’s a funny, relatable look at generational shifts, cultural pressure, and why some of us are grateful our most embarrassing moments weren’t captured in 4K. Got a question for the American Mamas? Visit americangroundradio.com/mamas and click “Ask the Mamas.” 23:00 President Donald Trump has directed the Secretary of Defense and other agencies to begin identifying and releasing government files related to UFOs, unidentified aerial phenomena, and any potential information connected to extraterrestrial life. Laugh if you want — but for years, trained Navy and Air Force pilots have reported aerial objects performing maneuvers that appear to defy conventional aerodynamics. These aren’t backyard videos or internet hoaxes. They’re encounters documented by military aviators asking a serious question: what exactly are we seeing? We explore the long shadow of Area 51, Cold War-era secrecy, and how government disinformation about experimental aircraft may have fueled decades of alien speculation. We also separate fact from fiction when it comes to so-called “chemtrails” versus ordinary condensation trails — and why conspiracy theories persist. 26:00 Florida Governor Ron DeSantis traveled to Kentucky this week with a bold message: Congress won’t fix itself — and it’s time for the states to step in. Testifying before Kentucky lawmakers, DeSantis urged them to support an Article V constitutional convention aimed at passing a Balanced Budget Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. With the national debt approaching $40 trillion, he argued that without permanent structural changes, Washington’s “muscle memory” of spending and compromise will continue — no matter which party is in power. We Dig Deep into break down how an Article V convention works, why 34 states are required to trigger it, and where the effort currently stands. Twenty states have already signed on — mostly Republican-led — but even if every remaining red state joined, supporters would still need buy-in from purple or Democrat-led legislatures. 32:00 Get Performlyte from Victory Nutrition International for 20% off. Go to vni.life/agr and use the promo code AGR20. 32:30 A social media post from Congressman Randy Fine has gone viral — and sparked a firestorm. Fine responded to comments tied to New York political circles suggesting restrictions on dogs in public housing, referencing concerns rooted in Islamic views that consider dogs unclean. Fine pushed back bluntly, arguing that if Americans were ever forced to choose between their pets and accommodating religious restrictions, it wouldn’t be a difficult decision. Critics immediately labeled the remarks Islamophobic. Supporters say the point wasn’t about religion — it was about culture, assimilation, and whether American traditions should bend to accommodate beliefs that conflict with everyday life in the U.S. In this segment, we unpack the controversy, the statistics behind America’s deep attachment to pets — including service and therapy dogs — and the broader debate over cultural expectations in a free society. We also discuss Fine’s proposed “Protecting Puppies from Sharia Act” and what it symbolizes in the larger conversation about immigration, religious freedom, and preserving American norms. 35:30 Plus, it's Fake News Friday! We're putting you to the test with our weekly game of headlines—are they real news, fake news, or really fake news? From cowboys and Gavin Newsom's dyslexia, to the airport being named after President Trump can you spot the fake news? Play along, keep score, and share your results with us on Facebook page: facebook.com/AmericanGroundRadio. 39:30 We talk about Supreme Court’s 6–3 ruling on presidential tariff authority and what it means for the balance of power in Washington. When former Vice President Mike Pence praised the decision as a win for the Constitution, was it a straightforward defense of separation of powers—or a subtle jab at Donald Trump? And we end today's show with the powerful Olympic story of Alysa Liu—an American gold medal victory with international intrigue and a reminder of the opportunities and freedoms that define the American dream. May your pursuit of happiness bring you joy. Articles US and Indonesia finalise deal to cut tariffs to 19% Major Defense Contractor Flees Spanberger’s Virginia Just Weeks After She Takes Office. Save Marine Air Terminal At LaGuardia

As you read this, we learn that the pioneering Marine Air Terminal (MAT) at LaGuardia Airport, where all scheduled international aviation in New York City took off in 1940, that we as an air cargo publication, if you can believe it, were miraculously lucky enough to save from destruction in 1980, well, the same Marine Air Terminal, i.e. the building that attained Landmark Preservation status, could be in immediate danger of being thoughtlessly altered out of existence by the airport operator The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.     This plan, as we read their presser if enacted, endangers the most historically important commercial aviation structure in The United States of America, dating back to the beginnings of international aviation serving our country's greatest metropolis New York City.     Here is what the presser states, reiterating it twice:     “The plan calls for replacing the 85-year-old Terminal A to meet demand and continued passenger growth while respecting the building rotunda's landmark status.     “A top-to-bottom rebuilding of Terminal A at LaGuardia while preserving the landmark rotunda.”     MAT is comprised of a central circular core of two stories with an attic from which a rectangular entrance pavilion and two symmetrically opposed one-story wings project.     The presser clearly states the plan is to save the central core and erase the rest of the building?     Press Release is clear and dangerous given Port Authority history at MAT since 1948.      We are grateful for the opportunity to remind everyone of what the LaGuardia Airport's operator inflicted upon this pioneering facility in 1952.     During 1940-42, Artist James Brooks as part of the WPA Federal Arts program painted the mural titled “Flight” on the upper walls of the MAT lobby. ‘Flight” at 237.5 circular and 12 feet high was the largest work of the WPA program.      The Port Authority in 1952-3 in that clean-up program painted over and covered the entire mural with drab grey wall paint.     “Flight” remained covered and forgotten, a giant blank wall in a public space and it stayed that way for nearly three decades when, as Air Cargo News, we discovered LaGuardia's Hidden Art Treasure and devised a plan to bring it back.     Now in 2025, it appears, if we read their presser correctly, the Port Authority wants to alter and change the MAT again, this time from the outside, after they had once upon a time, changed it from the inside out when they erased “Flight” from the upper Rotunda walls.      Keeping the entire MAT intact, observation decks and all, as it was built in 1939 is in our view essential, and matters to aviation history for one simple reason; here after World War II the MAT served every international flag airline that launched ongoing scheduled aerial service as the one and only scheduled way in and out of the world's greatest city.     MAT was the USA connection to Europe from 1940 until the opening of Idlewild Airport, (now JFK International) in 1948.     Airlines from around the world serving New York City and thus the United States of America, operated via this tiny art-deco jewel of a building. BOAC (now British Airways/IAG), Air France, Trans World Airlines, SAS (Scandinavian), American Overseas Airways, Pan American and countless others all began their operations here.     Designers of MAT were Delano and Aldrich who also created most of the original LaGuardia Airport that opened in 1939.     Worth noting, a few years prior to their LaGuardia Airport effort Delano and Aldrich designed and built the Pan Am Flying boat base at Dinner Key-Coconut Grove, Florida that opened in 1936.     Today that Dinner Key Building, sister to the MAT at LGA, remains in full use intact, whilst serving the City of Miami as Miami City Hall.

The buzz began with her highly anticipated return to Mall of America this Black Friday, November 28, where she's set to deliver a noon concert in the Rotunda, debuting her brand-new holiday single, “Message to the World (Little Drummer Girl),” and relaunching her iconic bow collection with an exclusive pop-up, plus a VIP meet-and-greet for the most dedicated fans. According to Mall of America's official press release, Siwa's performance is geared to be a full-circle moment, celebrating the site where her superstar journey first took off and generating significant excitement across social media, where fans clamor for details on ticketing and the special JoJo Siwa Bow Shop pop-up.On the personal front, AOL and Parade broke the story that JoJo Siwa has gone public about her relationship with TV personality Chris Hughes, clarifying her happiness and confronting any speculation regarding her sexuality with characteristic directness; she recently addressed her relationship status on Instagram, firmly stating that her queer identity is not contradicted by her current romance. The public response has been swift, with both praise for her openness and the typical polarized takes that have become synonymous with her journey through fame.A possible turning point came when Siwa returned to Big Brother's Late and Live, where, according to News Crack, she broke down in tears describing the emotional impact of being back in the setting that had propelled her deeper into the public eye, adding new layers to her evolving public persona. This vulnerability resonated on social channels, where fans empathized over her emotional honesty and celebrated her resilience.Meanwhile, JoJo Siwa's transformation story has dominated entertainment columns, with outlets like ZoomBangla and Entertainment Tonight chronicling her shift away from her signature oversized bows and childlike persona towards a more mature, nuanced public identity. Stories from outlets like BuzzInsider and Azat.TV highlight her bold new fashion sense, mature musical direction, and candidness about self-care and authenticity, especially amid intense online scrutiny and some backlash. JoJo's response has been to channel criticism into empowerment, turning trolling into creative fuel for her music and public statements. She's appeared in high-profile events including the 2025 Baby2Baby Gala, consistently reinforcing her message that self-acceptance and health come first.Social media chatter is unceasing. Siwa recently made waves with an NSFW admission on a podcast that left hosts speechless, and she's not shying away from direct commentary on her brand, sexuality, and personal growth, regularly trending across TikTok and Instagram. Topics:Early Fundraising MistakesCulture of Constructive DebateUsing Data for Value Creation ...and so much more.Top TakeawaysSimplicity is a fundraising advantage. New managers often try to stand out with creative structures or mixed strategies. Instead, make it easy for investors to say “yes”: standard 2/20 terms, one defined strategy, three memorable differentiators, and an ongoing dialogue with investors. Predictability builds trust—and trust raises funds.Healthy debate drives better decisions. Rotunda's culture is built on one principle: “Disrespect the idea, respect the colleague.” Every voice—associate or senior—is encouraged to challenge assumptions and pressure-test deals, but never the person presenting them. And if alignment isn't there, the deal is dropped. Forcing a divided deal almost always costs more than the opportunity lost.Strategy maps make execution measurable. Before closing a deal, Rotunda aligns with management on a 3- to 5-year vision, defining success through clear EBITDA targets, growth priorities, milestones, etc. Post-close, that strategy map becomes a living document reviewed monthly and used to guide board discussions. Every new opportunity is tested against it. If it's not on the map, it waits unless the team agrees to revise the plan. The result is sharper alignment, disciplined execution, and fewer “shiny object” distractions.Execution creates optionality. John's mantra “Get Sh*t Done” captures his belief that motion beats perfection. At Rotunda, that mindset led to bold experimentation: hiring data scientists before it was common, testing new pricing models, and launching analytics projects. Every executed idea broadens perspective and adds insight. Stack enough of them, and you create optionality. ‘High' or ‘added' protein foods are popping up everywhere from ice cream to pizza and even coffee. The nutrient's newfound popularity has a lot to do with the fact that it helps our bodies repair and build up muscle. But could these new snacks come with hidden health risks? And are there other nutrients we should be paying more attention to? Pat discusses this and more with Ciara McNulty, Senior Dietitian at The Rotunda and owner of Happy Feet Run Club.

There are perhaps more than two ways to experience Charlottesville Community Engagement, but the audio edition is one of the ones that I know about. I'm Sean Tubbs, a journalist who got his professional start as an intern at a public radio station in Roanoke thirty years ago. Before that I spent a couple of years at a student newspaper at Virginia Tech. Somehow all of that led to this time in 2025 when I'm able to produce radio and print stories for an audience that pays me to do the work. Thank you and here's what's coming up in this edition.* Case against Charlottesville's zoning to proceed to trial after Judge Worrell changes position on default (learn more)* A round up of other stories not quite yet ready for a full story (see below for the briefs)* Albemarle Supervisors are briefed on strategic plan report (learn more)* On September 5, groups will mark the 75th anniversary of federal ruling that allowed a Black man to attend UVA law (learn more)* Albemarle Supervisors approve special use permit for private school on Dudley Mountain Road (learn more)Sponsor: Westwind FlowersIt's that time of year we've all been waiting for… Dahlia season!Westwind Flowers in Orange, Virginia believes the blooms in your vase should be just as fresh, and just as local, as the food on your table.Join them in September at their Gordonsville floral studio for their Dahlias & Desserts Workshop—sweet treats, stunning flowers, and serious fun. Then in October, grab your shears and sign up for their Dahlia U-Pick events at their farm… a flower lover's dream come true! But why wait? Perhaps it would be useful to have a segment of quick stories. This functions as the script for those who likely won't take a listen and longer versions may be in the next regular edition.City Council to consider ban overnight camping ban in Charlottesville public's spacesThe Labor Day holiday means City Council will meet on Tuesday rather than Monday, and the final item on their regular agenda is an ordinance to ban camping and personal storage on city property.“The City Manager shall be guided by City of Charlottesville's interpretation of applicable federal and state law, the safety and dignity of those impacted, and the need to protect public and private property in the City of Charlottesville,” reads the final line of the draft rules.Charlottesville City Police Chief Michael Kochis has proposed the new rules which are being considered less than two months after the White House has issued an executive order that calls for imprisonment of people who cannot find a home. For more information on this story, check out my story on C-Ville Weekly's website but also be sure to read the source materials.Resources:* Staff report for the ordinance* Draft protocol for how the ordinance is to be implemented* The ordinance to prohibit “unpermitted camping on city property”* White House Executive Order titled Ending Crime and Disorder on America's StreetsWhite House withdraws $39 million from Norfolk project for off-shore wind logisticsSince taking office, President Donald Trump has used the power of the federal government to shift away from the use of alternatives to fossil fuel. For instance, on July 7, 2025, the administration issued an executive order titled “Ending Market Distorting Subsidies for Unreliable, Foreign-Controlled Energy Sources.”On Friday, August 29, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy followed through with the termination or withdrawal of $679 million in projects for offshore wind projects. Duffy called such projects a scam.In late October 2023, the Port of Virginia provided an update on its efforts to become the primary logistics center for the Mid-Atlantic to assist Dominion Energy's Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project. This is taking place at the Portsmouth Marine Terminal.Duffy's announcement includes $39.265 million for the Norfolk Offshore Wind Logistics Port. This was to support the Dominion project which is to consist of the construction of 176 offshore wind turbines situated on a lease site 27 miles off the coast of Virginia Beach. (view the project on Dominion's site)What does this mean to the overall project? Stay tuned.Virginia Senate committee denies confirmation of more UVA Board membersWhen the University of Virginia's Board of Visitors next meets on September 11, there may not be as many members around the table at the Rotunda. On August 28, the Senate Privileges and Elections Committee declined to confirm 14 appointees to governing bodies of Virginia's public universities including four to the UVA Board of Visitors. All eight Democrats voted to decline to advance the nominations while all six Republicans voted to do so.The action comes at a time when the Virginia Supreme Court is taking up a lawsuit over a similar denial on June 9 when the committee declined to confirm the appointment of former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. Current Attorney General Jason Miyares had advised fellow Republicans and University Rectors that the Senate committee action was not valid. The Senate Democrats on the panel sued and Fairfax County Circuit Court Jonathan D. Frieden agreed to a preliminary injunction barring Cuccinelli from serving as a member of the BOV. He did not attend a meeting in early August and his name is not listed on the BOV website. In late June, Youngkin appointed four more to the Board of Visitors and the newcomers did attend that August meeting. However, their names have also been removed from the BOV website. The Privileges and Elections Committee meeting on August 28 was swift but Republicans on the panel argued that a confirmation vote should wait until after the Virginia Supreme Court weighs in.“Traditionally, if we have something in front of the courts, we allow the court to rule and give them the opportunity to do their job,” said Senator Bill DeSteph (R-8). “And I think that before we vote on this, we should allow the Supreme Court the opportunity to rule on this.”DeSteph said a vote to deny the nominees could be construed as an attempt to influence the Virginia Supreme Court's decision.Senator Adam Ebbins (D-39) noted that none of the people up for appointment were part of the pending lawsuit.Senator Tara Durant (R-27) said she felt the nomination process was becoming politicized.“This is really kind of unprecedented,” Durant said. “We have a long list of people who have got quite a wealth of experience. And I think the broader question it begs is what will happen in the future to dissuade those who are willing to serve the Commonwealth in this capacity?”Committee Chair Aaron Rouse (D-22) responded briefly without much explanation.“We have a job to do as this committee, not only to protect our colleges, universities, but make sure that appointees or potential appointees are upholding the values and principles set forth by members of the Commonwealth, members of this body,” Rouse said.Stay tuned for more on this and other stories. And make sure to check out the Cavalier Daily's coverage as well. The end of 915-AI don't usually post end-notes for the podcast version but this is a hybrid. Whenever I get to where I'm going, I'll keep working. It might be correspondence. It might be thanking subscribers. I may get the second version out of the Town Crier Productions media kit. I may begin writing the Week Ahead. I may write a note to the people doing the Virginia Local News Ecosystem Study to ask why the Cavalier Daily isn't included in their geographic scope. Or maybe I'll just keep trying to make up new sounds for future podcasts. Or maybe I'll just chat with friends?Who knows? All I know is I pledge to always be ready to get to work when I am able. In today's episode we will talk about the Imperative mood in Greek. Emily and Danai will first engage in a dialogue with suggestions of what to do in Thessaloniki and then explain the use of the Imperative mood.D: Emily, I want to visit Thessaloniki! What do you suggest I do there?E: Oh, perfect! You'll have an amazing time! First of all, take a walk along the beach to see the White Tower up close and climb all the way to the top. The view is incredible!D:I already love this idea! Where else should I go?E: Go to the Upper Town and the Castles. There, you'll see the Heptapyrgion, and of course, the view of the entire city from above. Also, visit the Hagia Sophia, the Rotunda, and the Church of Saint Demetrius—they're among the most historic churches in the city.D:I probably won't be able to do all of this in one day, right?Ε:Most likely not. It's better to plan on needing two to three days to see all of that, plus maybe visit a museum, like the Archaeological or Byzantine Museum, which are both in the city center.D: Alright then. What about food? What should I try?E: Well, definitely take a walk around Ladadika for lunch, and also go there in the evening for drinks. Of course, after that, for dessert, you should try "trigona Panorama," and for breakfast, at least once, have bougatsa with cream.D: Wow! Everything sounds delicious! There's no way I'm not trying "trigona"! Everyone's telling me about them!Ε: They're definitely amazing! But there are also lots of other syrupy sweets to try.D: Got it… I'm going for gastronomic tourism! Ε: Yes! And don't forget to walk around Aristotelous Square and have a freddo.D: Of course, I can't wait for a proper freddo espresso!Ε: You have to!D: It looks like I'll need to write all this down so I don't forget!Ε: Good idea! Make a list for each day so you can manage to see and do everything!D: I think I'll really like Thessaloniki because there's so much to see and do!Ε: Exactly! “From the very beginning the intent was that the American people needed to be able to access the records so that we would be able to hold the government accountable for its actions.” - David FerrieroDuring the first Trump administration, when access to certain websites and information was being threatened, we started our Keepers series about activist archivists, rogue librarians, historians, collectors, curators — protectors of the culture and the free flow of information and ideas. Today our national librarians and archivists are being fired, our museums are being threatened, our journalists are being hampered, and truth and transparency is once again under attack. In 2017, we talked with David Ferriero, the 10th Archivist of the United States, about the the beginnings of the National Archives under Franklin Roosevelt and its purpose. Ferriero tells of early keepers like Stephen Pleasonton, a brave civil servant who saved the Constitution and Declaration of Independence as the British burned Washington during the War of 1812. Stories of a letter from Fidel Castro to President Roosevelt requesting a $10 dollar bill, and a letter from Annie Oakley to William McKinley volunteering to rally 50 women sharp shooters to fight in the Spanish Civil War.Selected as Archivist of the United States in 2010 by President Obama during the time of his Open Government Initiative, Ferriero worked to make the system more transparent and accessible to the public.   With a collection of about 13 billion pieces of paper, 43 million photographs and miles and miles of film and video and about 6 billion electronic records, Ferriero believes “we are responsible for documenting what is going on.” “I think my favorite times are twice a year when we do naturalization ceremonies in the Rotunda and between 50 and 200 new citizens are sworn in in front of the Constitution," he said. "Just to see them experiencing the documents outlining the rights that are now theirs. Those are powerful moments.”

However, with the playoff race still in full swing, the guys are a little less chill than usual. Join in for a breakdown of the Masters, and the Wild's last few games, before a big week, and a live pod recording at Mall of America on Thursday April 17th at 5pm at the Rotunda. Thanks to our sponsors Pilot Games, Cub, Wild Construction, Jimmy's Dressings and Dips, Aquarius Home Services, Pep's Drafthaus Pizza, T-Rex Cookies, and Bosch Law. Your Season 3 Finale is a click away, but hold on tight for game by game recaps from the second season.

Crowds of Trump supporters in Washington were supposed to watch the inauguration on the National Mall. But when plans changed last-minute because of freezing temperatures, the president's fans crowded instead into indoor space at Capital One Arena and nearby bars. At the same time, Trump was getting sworn in at the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol, flanked by tech billionaires and members of his proposed Cabinet. On today's episode, host Martine Powers talks with chief correspondent Dan Balz about the unusual inauguration, Trump's plans for his presidency and what he's already doing to make them a reality.Today's show was produced by Laura Benshoff and Ted Muldoon, who also mixed the show. It was edited by Reena Flores. Tonight on The ReidOut: Do not expect the soaring rhetoric of JFK's "Ask Not" speech when Donald Trump is inaugurated on Monday. Due to the cold, the ceremony will not be held outside as usual but inside the Rotunda, near the spot where a Trump supporter stood four years ago with a stolen Pelosi lectern amid the desecration of the U.S. Capitol. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has allowed a TikTok ban to proceed, but the final word is far from decided, especially with TikTok's CEO attending Monday's inauguration as Trump's guest. Plus, President Biden's final days in office include a flurry of activity, from conservation efforts and clemency decisions to a major new announcement on the Equal Rights Amendment. Listen now to this edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC.
