Eva begins replacing people with mirror duplicates, while Sue Dearbon and Ralph Dibny return with evidence to exonerate Sue of Eva's crimes, but, due to an explosion at McCulloch Technologies while obtaining the evidence, Ralph’s body was badly damaged. Though Eva convinces Barry he cannot win, the Original Harrison Wells comes to him and reminds him that he is the Paragon of Love. As Barry checks on Iris, he revives her with a spark while holding her hand. Barry and his team revive the original Speed Force with the latent speed force energy in Iris before he and Iris convince Eva to stand down. Showing remorse, Eva tries to stop her duplicates, but they become too powerful, so she joins forces with Barry and Iris to destroy them. After freeing her prisoners, Eva leaves for the Mirrorverse to start anew. Claiming that he can now perceive all of his life at once and travel freely through time and space, Harrison Wells decides to put himself in a time loop so he can live peacefully with his wife, Tess Morgan, while an exonerated Sue and a recuperating Ralph travel the world to stop other Black Hole-esque organizations. 18 hours earlier, when Barry and Iris revived the Speed Force, they unknowingly released four differently colored lightning bolts into the sky of Central City.

“Amy Farrow [is] a seasoned executive who lives at the center of customer-focused product and technology innovation,” Barry O'Reilly says. Amy is a collaborator, team builder, and problem solver at heart, traits that she brought to her former roles at Salesforce and Twitter, and which she continues to champion as the current Chief Information Officer of Lyft. Amy and Barry talk about the value of reflection and how to leverage learning to build a better organization, including what not to do in times of challenge or crisis. As Barry points out, this episode “is a fantastic podcast to understand the convergence of customer insights, technology, and product to create great experiences.” Learning From Customers “There’s what you see and then there’s what you don’t see. And often what you don’t see is more impactful than what you do see,” Amy remarks. She and Barry discuss the importance of learning about and directly from customers. In her early career, Amy didn’t really understand why this was so important. Her time at Salesforce in particular gave her a new perspective. Barry comments that customer discovery is part of building great products and delivering great service. If a customer has a problem, help them to solve it as best as you can and bring back what you learned to the team so you can improve the product. Building this type of culture ultimately becomes a competitive advantage, as it did for Salesforce. Keep Moving Forward Leveraging your team’s expertise in a crisis is critical; to do that you first have to bring people together and build trust in one another. Barry comments that high-performance teams feel free to make mistakes and to discuss them openly without laying blame. In this healthy culture, teams respond quicker and learn faster than the competition, he says. In a challenge or crisis, keep going forward, Amy adds. Take small steps toward solving the problem. She says that she tries to understand why the problem arose without laying blame. Instead, her focus is on studying the problem and finding ways to solve it with the help of her team. The Value of Reflection  Reflecting is hard work: Amy describes it as ‘cognitive load’ to constantly think about your actions. However, it’s critical work as it helps you to understand what is working and what you should do differently. “One bad pattern I see is this belief that you retrospect at the end... Why would you wait?” she remarks. You should reflect multiple times, including at the start of the year. Last year was tough for everyone, so she chose to reflect on her team’s accomplishments instead of the negatives. “We definitely learned from it, but I also just felt like people needed to let it go and move on from it more than any other year,” she tells Barry. Barry also shares an uplifting story about celebrating small wins. These small acts have a “profound impact on building team, on building trust, on role modeling ... just upping the bar in terms of the culture you want to create in the company,” he comments. Amy emphasizes that it’s important for leaders to take action on what they learn from these reflective exercises. Looking Ahead Barry asks Amy what she is excited about for the future. She describes two ongoing unlearning events in her personal life. Overall, she believes that the end of this year will be much better than the start. Her advice to listeners is to “Keep learning forward”. Take what we learned about work and life and apply them to make work better in the future. Blake Crouch talks his latest book "Recursion" Memory makes reality. That’s what New York City cop Barry Sutton is learning as he investigates the devastating phenomenon the media has dubbed False Memory Syndrome—a mysterious affliction that drives its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived. Neuroscientist Helena Smith already understands the power of memory. It’s why she’s dedicated her life to creating a technology that will let us preserve our most precious moments of our pasts. If she succeeds, anyone will be able to re-experience a first kiss, the birth of a child, the final moment with a dying parent. As Barry searches for the truth, he comes face-to-face with an opponent more terrifying than any disease—a force that attacks not just our minds but the very fabric of the past. And as its effects begin to unmake the world as we know it, only he and Helena, working together, will stand a chance at defeating it. But how can they make a stand when reality itself is shifting and crumbling all around them?

Community has always been a passion for BCB founder Barry Peters, who with his wife, Channie, will be leaving Bainbridge Island this fall to join their daughter and grandchildren in Denver, Colorado. It was that passion for Community that drove Peters, who moved to Bainbridge Island in 2001, to help found Sustainable Bainbridge in 2005, and to serve on the Bainbridge City Council from 2008 to 2011. But this podcast is about his years with Bainbridge Community Broadcasting, which he founded in May of 2014 specifically to help build community. BCB is the first community-focused podcasting organization in the country, and since its inception Barry has been responsible for establishing and equipping the necessary recording studios; setting up the web presence, hosting over 100 podcast interviews, and recruiting and managing additional volunteers who have collectively hosted over 575 community podcasts.  All of those podcasts have been focused on the people, organizations, issues and events of our local Bainbridge Island community. But who is Barry Peters? In this podcast BCB Tastes of Bainbridge producer Bob Ross interviews Barry to learn more about what led him to BCB -- and Bainbridge -- in the first place. Listen here and learn about Barry's early years in radio, the surprising decision he made on his first date with Channie -- who is BCB's most prolific podcast host -- and his hopes for the future, both for BCB and its new BARN family, and for his own adventures as an active grandparent of two irresistible granddaughters.  As Barry says in his interview, "It's a terribly poignant and difficult time for us to leave so many friends and so much that has been meaningful for us in our life here on Bainbridge, but the magnet of grandchildren is very powerful!" Though we here at BCB can understand the choice that Barry and Channie have made, we will definitely miss them, and wish them all the best in their new adventures. “There’s often some confusion and conflict around personal branding.” It’s true. For whatever reason, some people and companies have trouble with this concept. But in the interconnected digital age, personal interaction and influence matters more and more for brands. Barry Feldman’s new book, The Road to Recognition, provides a handy reference guide for those building new personal brands as well as seasoned personal brands. We discussed all of this and more on this week’s episode of the On Brand podcast. About Barry Feldman Barry Feldman is a copywriter, content marketing strategist, digital marketing consultant, blogger, speaker, and podcaster. Barry is a voice of authority in personal branding, SEO, content marketing, copywriting, and social media marketing. He works with companies big and small all over the globe to plan and create content that matters, guiding clients in their efforts to drive more traffic, leads and sales via their digital marketing efforts. Barry’s “the marketer’s marketer,” providing creative direction to many of the world’s top martech brands, marketing service providers and digital media agencies. Barry publishes regularly on The Point at Feldman Creative and contributes to many of the world’s leading digital marketing publications. Episode Highlights “It can be scary to set your people free,” Barry noted while talking about concerns over personal branding. However, it’s a natural progression. Many had concerns about turning employees loose on social media. In both cases, the reward to the brand can be greater than the risk. It all started with an infographic. As Barry shared, the idea for The Road to Recognition started with an infographic he and co-author Seth Price developed on personal branding (below). However, they organized it in a unique way … The A to Z guide … Both the infographic and the book are organized alphabetically with a table of contents that leads with A is for Authenticity, B is for Blog, C is for Content and so on. Beyond being a handy organizational tool, this also makes the book easy to reference on the go. Need help with video for your personal brand? There’s a chapter on that. Need help with email? They’ve got that too. Who are some of Barry’s favorite personal brands? He mentioned Ann Handley, Michael Brenner, Brian Dean from Backlinko, and Andy Crestodina. I threw in Neil deGrasse Tyson as a favorite of mine for good measure. What brand has made Barry smile recently? Barry pointed us to Dollar Shave Club for their hard copy “Bathroom Minutes” newsletters that they send out with their shipments each month. He also smiles at Amazon for delivering exceptional customer service in spite of the size and scope of the company. To learn more, go to the Feldman Creative site or theroadtorecognition.com. As Barry begins to relive the previous day, Dr. Wells realizes what happened and warns Barry not to change any event for fear that he will create a bigger problem as the universe balances itself. Barry does not listen and instead captures Mark Mardon before he can kidnap Joe. Meanwhile, Leonard Snart and Mick Rory return to Central City. Leonard sends his sister Lisa after Cisco, whom they force to rebuild the cold and heat guns, and a third gun for Lisa that turns people into gold, under threat that they will kill Cisco's brother. Barry realizes that Dr. Wells was right, and his actions have resulted in Cisco's kidnapping and Iris rejecting his romantic advances. Cisco returns and reveals that Leonard tortured his brother until Cisco revealed the Flash's true identity. Barry goes after the Snarts, and the two develop an uneasy truce: Snart will not reveal Barry's identity, will no longer kill innocent people, and stay away from Barry's friends in exchange for Barry not locking him away in the particle accelerator. The Reverse-Flash kills a local reporter and destroys evidence linking Dr. Wells to the death of Simon Stagg. The reporter's vanishing causes Barry to think Joe might be right about Dr. Wells.

Is there such a thing as too much choice? In The Paradox of Choice: Why More is Less – How the Culture of Abundance Robs Us of Satisfaction (Harper Perennial, 2005), author Barry Schwartz answers with a resounding yes. Though some choice is healthy and necessary, Barry argues that in modern society, we are overwhelmed with them, leading us to feel dissatisfied and sometimes even unable to make a decision at all. The dominant view that the market will provide and enable people to get that they want in life is illusory, as human beings are not as rational as we think we are, and our subjective experience of an event does not always correlate with how objectively “good” it is. In this podcast, Barry also talks about how some people, who he calls maximizers, end up suffering more from the overabundance of choices in our society, for these people always strive to make the very best decision in order to have the very best. This leads to paralysis, overanalyzing, and ultimately, to overall dissatisfaction. What makes us happy, he argues, is not to strive for the very best, but to be content with the good enough. As Barry states, “I think that in modern America, we have far too many options for breakfast cereal and not enough options of president.” Learn more about your ad choices.
