As part of the Comic Boom! and Comic Source collaboration, this DC Spotlight for the week of January 28, 2026 finds Jace and Rocky breaking down a packed slate of fourteen DC releases, with discussion opening on the passing and legacy of Sal Buscema before turning to the week's books. DC KO: The Kids Are All Fight Special #1 is examined for its focus on younger heroes and its place as a largely skippable but well-drawn tie-in, while Detective Comics #1105 continues Tom Taylor's "The Courage That Kills" arc with deeper insight into the Lion's origin and Gotham's escalating crisis. Harley Quinn #58 is discussed as the start of a new arc that feels tonally familiar, followed by the Supergirl Next Door Valentine's anthology, which offers mixed results across stories spotlighting Supergirl, Jay Garrick, Poison Ivy, Guy Gardner, Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing, Martian Manhunter, and Green Arrow. Green Lantern #31 features a nostalgic Hal Jordan and Barry Allen team-up that advances Jeremy Adams' larger arc in subtle ways, while Superman #34 pushes Superboy Prime further into moral conflict against the Dark Legion. Absolute Martian Manhunter #8 stands out for its conceptual storytelling and increased narrative momentum, The Flash #29 introduces Dream Girl as a potential crack in Darkseid's Legion, and Harley and Ivy: Love and Crimes #3 explores the early dynamics between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy with a more grounded emotional approach. Justice League Unlimited #15 and Justice League Red #6 wrap major threads involving Neuron, time-displaced heroes, and Red Tornado's reckoning, while Absolute Batman #16 delivers a character-driven underworld journey with Wonder Woman that highlights Bruce Wayne's loyalty and sacrifice. Absolute Flash #11 provides major revelations about the Still Point and the source of Wally West's power, and Absolute Wonder Woman #16 launches the "Season of the Witch" arc with Absolute Zatanna and a reimagined Suicide Squad, setting the stage for one of the week's most consequential confrontations.

Our look at Mark Waid's legendary run on The Flash continues! After taking on his first major assignment as a writer, retelling Wally West's origin, and paring down the supporting cast to help focus on Wally's journey to maturity, Waid goes for broke with an epic, life-changing event storyline that today we know as “The Return of Barry Allen.” If Wally's beloved mentor is back from the dead, where does that leave our no-longer fastest man alive? Plus the JL may have an unlikely ally in their battle against the giant monsters unleashed by the Legion of Doom. Join us for our thoughts on these titles and more.

For episode 101, we explore the history of the multiverse in DC comics...and it's not what you think! We provide a (brief) overview of the first examples of multiversal theory in fiction and science before discussing the first multiverse story in DC comics (which is NOT The Flash but rather in the pages of Wonder Woman)! We then discuss the iconic and meta Flash of Two Worlds and the first use of the term "multiverse" from an All-Star Squadron story by Roy Thomas. Ep. 101 What if the Flash of Two Worlds was incorrectly identified as the origin of the DC Multiverse? Infinite earths as seen in hundreds of DC comic booksFor the start of our NEXT 100 episodes, we travel to the beginning of the multiverse in DC comics when Wonder Woman encounters an alternate universe version of herself back in 1953! We then tackle the iconic and super meta Flash story "Flash of Two Worlds" from Carmine Infantino and multiversal godfather Gardner Fox which brings together Barry Allen and Jay Garrick for the first time! We wrap up in the pages of All-Star Squadron which sees the Justice Society of America (or more preciously Doctor Fate) travel to a very Ditko-esque universe to battle The Spectre and to utter the word "multiverse" for the first time in DC comics courtesy of the legendary Roy Thomas. Plus Michael Moorcock, William James, Spider-Verse the upcoming Flash DCU film and much more. This team up with Jay Garrick and Barry Allen is really fun, and we get Captain Cold and The Trickster as antagonists for the speedy duo! Plus, there's a predicament on Earth 2 that has brought Jay to Earth 1, and if they cannot defeat the villains, and find a solution, Earth 2 is doomed to destruction! Great work by Gardner Fox, Carmine Infantino, and company. So join us on this wild journey! There are a lot of speedsters in the DC Universe that tend to be forgotten about; overshadowed by four Flashes that have been mainstays in the comic book world (Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West, and Bart Allen). The Waverider is docked at STAR Labs in Central City. Thank goodness Gideon and the Waverider are shielded from EMP's! Red Death reveals that she is from a different timeline. She was adopted by the Wayne family and became Batwoman. Much like the Red Death in the comics, she got tired of criminals and wanted to prevent crime. Through studying other heros tech and meta powers, she was able to creat her own armor and Speed Force. Her timeline's Flash & Rogues didn't approve and fought back, starting a war that she couldn't win, so she tried to hide in the Speed Force but it rejected her artificial speed and threw her out into our world. She needs our Barry to open the portal to her timeline by using the Cosmic Treadmill as it needs organic speed force energy. Iris figures out her story, but before she can do anything, Red Death knocks her down and drags her to where Barry is held, forcing him to run or he loses her. After some convincing, Mark sneaks in to help Barry out and he chooses to switch sides. With the treadmill ruined and no way home, Red Death and her Rogues are declairing war on the Flash and this world. The Negative Forces transform Thawne into their new avatar. In the Negative Speed Force, they explain to Barry that this is their revenge for when he weakened them by removing Thawne's speed. Barry, Meena, Bart, and Nora fight Thawne in Central City, but he sends the latter three back in time. Meanwhile, Cecile rescues Bashir and transfers her powers to him which he uses to rescue the other Forces so they can aid Barry. Iris is saved by the Time Stone and Damien Darhk helps her resurrect herself. Jay Garrick reunites her with Barry. With help from the Forces, he reverses a powerful attack from Thawne back into him, removing him from the timeline. After the universe "resets", Iris is cured of her time sickness and the speedsters return to their native time. The BLOC is depowered and Meena loses her speed. The CRC malfunctions and Mark encounters someone claiming to be "a friend". Mona and Dillon's powers are restored while Cecile develops telekinesis. Tinya and Renee are reunited. Iris mentions that the NSF will find a new avatar and Barry states that he'll be ready.
