Talkin' Fanfic Episode No. - 301 Episode Title - Interview with Crimson1, professional author Amanda Meuwissen In Talkin' Fanfic's third season opener, Sara sits down with professionally published author Amanda Meuwissen, who has openly and proudly published fanfiction on both ff.net and Ao3 for decades, as Crimson1 ! Sara and Amanda discuss how Amanda's introduction to popular fiction (via, ironically, Anne Rice novels) almost immediately funneled her into the world of fanfiction reading and writing, and how a Dean/OMC fic she wrote during the early seasons of Supernatural quickly rocketed in popularity (it is still, staggeringly, the #7 most reviewed Supernatural of all time on fanfiction.net, out of some 121 thousand) and served as the first project she would “flip” into a published original work. Sara and Amanda talk about two of her ColdFlash fics from the CW's Flash fandom, her love of the characters of Barry Allen and Leonard Snart, and why in many ways, the ColdFlash fandom writes the characters better than the show itself. They also express a random common love for a Wellingbaum RPF coffee shop AU, Wentworth Miller's hands, the surprising awesomeness of “Legends of Tomorrow” and Amanda gives listeners some tips and tricks on how best to break into publishing in the original fiction world! I just want to apologize for this episode. I have no idea how it happened, but Matt and I had a lot of fun recording it. It was supposed to be a Talent Showcase, but the only thing showcased is our sheer ineptitude. Enjoy.
Today we talk about Leonard Snart, most commonly known as Captain Cold. He's mainly a Flash villain, and part of The Rogues, but he occasionally teams up with the Flash when they have a common goal. We also go on a tangent about his sister, Lisa, who is known as the Golden Glider. Media specifically mentioned in today's episode: -The second story of Justice League Quarterly (1990) #2 on DCUniverse or on Comixology -The Flash by Geoff Johns -Captain Cold kills The Top -The Flash (1987) -Underworld Unleashed reading order -Identity Crisis -Flash: The Fastest Man Alive (2006) Full Throttle -Blackest Night reading order -Flash (2011) (New 52) -Flash (2016) (Rebirth) Thanks to Victoria Watkins for our icon! We are still in quarantine, but ready to review some horror! This week’s pick is the 1987 film BLOOD DINER, directed by Jackie Kong and written by Michael Sonye. Plus, a little background on Ancient Egyptian human sacrifice, Kate being the president of the Jackie Kong fan club, and what we’ve been up to in our off time while quarantine turns over one month long, including some actual book reading by Elle and Kate rewatching LEGENDS OF TOMORROW for their sons Leonard Snart and John Constantine. The Legends go to prom...in two different timelines. What could go wrong? Seriously at this point there's no need to even review the show. We just sit back and enjoy the ridiculousness with a side of serious when it counts. The only issue we really have is that there was a real missed opportunity to have a young Mick Rory and a young Leonard Snart show up at the 89 prom. Come on guys...how did we let that one slip through the cracks? Kriss and Dpalm record the Mailbag at the end of every month. Basically, we're ready for the holidays -- and Aaron gets into the Christmas vs. Chanukah debate ... again. Sorry, not sorry. NEWS HIGHLIGHTS THIS WEEK: Netflix will likely cut Kevin Spacey from the final season of “House of Cards.” According to THR, “production has been shut down for two weeks (and potentially longer) to give the staff more time to rework a final season that had been almost completely plotted out.” Disney is developing a new live action “Star Wars” TV series for its new streaming service. The service is expected to launch at the end of 2019, so we’ll be waiting for this show for a while. Amazon is in talks with Warner Bros TV to possibly develop a “Lord of the Rings” TV show. Wentworth Miller will be leaving “Legends of Tomorrow” and “The Flash,” marking the exit of Leonard Snart from the CW superhero shows. Amazon has picked up a TV adaptation of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book series “The Boys.” Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are executive producers and Eric Kripke has signed on to join them in directing duties on the series. According to AV Club, the comic was “centered on a black-ops team—”The Boys”—who try to stop the corrupt superheroes of the world from abusing their powers.” I guess this is the point where we talk about Louis CK, now... Emmy-Winner Michael Emerson Boards Arrow for S6 (Date: 22 July 2017) a. Emmy Award-winner Michael Emerson has joined the cast of Arrow for the series' sixth season, as revealed at a panel for the DC Comics-based series at Comic-Con International in San Diego. The Lost alum will board the series in a recurring capacity; he will play a member of a villainous cabal. Additionally, it was confirmed David Nykl (who plays Oliver Queen's friend/mentor/nemesis, Anatoly Knyazev) will return to the series. b. http://www.cbr.com/michael-emerson-cast-arrow-season-6/ 2. Arrow Showrunner Addresses Olicity In Season 6 (Date: 24 July 2017) a. Executive producer Marc Guggenheim said during an interview at Comic Con International with Comicbook, “I'm going to give a very unsatisfying answer to the Olicity fans, which is that we sort of set Oliver and Felicity on a certain trajectory starting with 520, and you saw a little bit of it in 523. We're continuing it. I will say that the events of the finale did throw a little bit of a wrench into their slow rekindling of their relationship.” b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/24/arrow-olicity-season-6/ 3. Spoiler Room: Scoop on Game of Thrones, Arrow, Westworld, and more (Date: 20 July 2017) a. Do you have any scoop on the new villain (or villains) on Arrow next season? — Here's a little teaser: “As usual, every season we want to try to up the stakes and do something different,” EP Wendy Mericle tells me. “This will be something we've never seen before. The villain will be hopefully as dynamic and as interesting as the ones we've had in the past. These people, or this person, won't just be somebody that's a thorn in Oliver's side, but it'll effect the whole team personally and very directly.” Could Cayden James and Helix be the culprits she speaks of? “You never know,” Mericle says. “They are still in the wind. We don't like to leave those threads dangling.” b. http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/20/spoiler-room-game-thrones-arrow-westworld/ 4. One Fan-Favorite Arrow Character Will Receive Flashbacks In Season 6 (Date: 26 July 2017) a. Marc Guggenheim has revealed that a fan-favorite character will receive flashbacks for the very first time in Season 6. In an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, Guggenheim had this to say about Season 6, “You're gonna still see flashbacks. It won't be every episode and it won't be serialized. They'll be character specific and I'll give you one example... as you saw in the trailer Manu Bennett is back for the season premiere and he's also coming back for a special two-part episode in the first half of the season where we're really going to be focusing hard on his character, post everything he's experienced on the show and we intend to do a Slade Wilson flashback story.” b. http://www.cinemablend.com/television/1685200/one-fan-favorite-arrow-character-will-receive-flashbacks-in-season-6 5. Arrow Showrunner Says Richard Dragon Will Be Grounded Crime Lord (Date: 25 July 2017) a. Richard Dragon, one of the last major Green Arrow villains yet to appear on Arrow, is coming in season six -- and he will be different from the series' other big bads, according to series executive producer Marc Guggenheim. "You know, what I really like about our interpretation of Richard is, he's very grounded," Guggenheim said. "He's not a flamboyant big bad, he doesn't wear a costume, he really is a crimelord sort of in the Tobias Church model. For Tobias we only really saw him for about five episodes, so we were excited about th prospect of doing a cool, gritty crime lord, but for a longer period of time. We've never really done that on the show before, so it's different." b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/25/arrow-showrunner-says-richard-dragon-will-be-grounded-crime-lord/ GENERAL DC TV NEWS 1. Legends of Tomorrow: Sara's Season 3 Love Interest is a New Character (Date: 25 July 2017) a. Love is in the air for Waverider captain Sara Lance. When the character returns in Legends of Tomorrow Season 3, she will find herself embroiled in a new romance. On Twitter, executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed that this romance will be with a new character. Guggenheim and fellow executive producer Phil Klemmer revealed that Sara will get a new love interest at Comic-Con International's Legends of Tomorrow panel. “It's definitely time for Sara to settle down, or at least have a relationship that's more than a roll in the hay. It's hard when you're travelling through time,” Klemmer announced. “It's definitely been a priority of ours to re-establish Sara's bisexuality in Season 3,” Guggenheim added. “It's a big, important thing for us this year.” b. http://www.cbr.com/legends-of-tomorrow-sara-love-interest-new-character/ 2. The Flash: Tom Felton not returning as series regular (Date 25 July 2017) a. At the close of season 3, Julian was still a member of Team Flash, but with Barry now trapped in the Speed Force, and the show jumping ahead at least six months, it appears that Julian has left the team. The character was missing from the new season 4 footage in the recently released trailer, which was shown at Comic-Con, an event the Harry Potter alum also didn't attend. As of yet, Felton has not booked a return to the show, but as with all actors in the Berlanti-verse, there's a chance we could see Felton again if it makes sense for the story and his scheduling permits it. b. http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/25/flash-tom-felton-not-returning-season-4/?utm_campaign=entertainmentweekly&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&xid=entertainment-weekly_socialflow_twitter 3. THE FLASH Season 4 Casts The Thinker; Danny Trejo And More Join As Key DC Comics Characters (Date 23 July 2017) a. Neil Sandilands (The 100) is set to take on the role of Clifford Devoe/The Thinker, a metahuman with a mega mind who embarks on a season-long battle with The Flash that pits the "fastest man alive" against the "fastest mind alive." Danny Trejo (Machete) is Breacher, a feared bounty hunter from Earth-19 and the imposing father of inter-dimensional bounty hunter Gypsy. His mission is to prevent any inter-dimensional traveller from threatening life on his planet — especially his daughter's. Kim Engelbrecht (Dominion) is The Mechanic, a highly intelligent engineer who designs devices for Devoe. As Devoe's right hand, she's the truest of true believers who'll stop at nothing to help him implement his plan to fix humanity. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/the_flash/the-flash-season-4-casts-the-thinker-danny-trejo-and-more-join-as-key-dc-comics-characters-a152752 4. The Flash Gets a New Suit in Season 4 Set Photo (Date 29 July 2017) a. Set photos captured by YVRShoots.com show Gustin on set during July 28th, wearing what appears to be a new Flash suit. This comes after Gustin shared a photo of part of the suit on Instagram, and spoke about his desire for a new costume during an interview with ComicBook.com at San Diego Comic-Con. Interestingly, the suit is appears to be almost identical to the suit worn by the 2024 version of Barry Allen, which was briefly seen in last season's 'The Once and Future Flash'. b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/29/the-flash-season-4-new-suit-barry-allen-grant-gustin/ 5. SUPERGIRL Season 3 Trailer Released; Calista Flockhart Set To Recur & Four New Cast Additions Announced (Date 22 July 2017) a. The CW has confirmed that Calista Flockhart will return for Supergirl season three and it sounds like she'll be popping in a lot more frequently this time around as she's secured recurring status. She'll first appear in the season premiere on October 9. Additionally, Adrian Pasdar, Carl Lumbly, Yael Grobglas, and Emma Tremblay have all joined the cast. Pasdar will play Morgan Edge, a ruthless real estate developer who will find himself at odds with Lena Luthor. Lumbly will play J'onn's father M'yrnn J'onzz, a pacifist religious leader on Mars. Grobglas will play Psi, a psychic villain who uses people's minds against them. Tremblay will play Ruby, a smart kid who's fascination with Supergirl lands her in serious trouble. The official season three trailer gives us our first look at Odette Annable as Reign and Erica Durance as Alura Zor-El. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/supergirl/supergirl-season-3-trailer-released-calista-flockhart-set-to-recur-four-new-cast-additions-announced-a152739 6. LEGENDS OF TOMORROW Season 3 Trailer Released; Both Captain Cold & Damien Darhk Will Return (Date 22 July 2017) a. The CW announced today that both Wentworth Miller and Neal McDonough will reprise their roles as Captain Cold and Damien Darhk, respectively, on the upcoming third season of DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Miller will actually return in a recurring capacity, but he won't exactly be the Leonard Snart we came to know and love in seasons one and two. He'll instead be playing a brand new version of fan-favorite character, which should lead to some interesting interactions between him and Mick. During the panel, executive producer Phil Klemmer teased, “Mick Rory needs his pal, but unfortunately he's not going to get the version of his pal that he remembers.” Meanwhile, McDonough will be upped to a series regular and will also come with his own, more dangerous, changes. "We'll be meeting a new version of Damien Darhk, a little less silly, a little more formidable." Arthur Darvill will also be back as Rip Hunter, but in a recurring role, and it sounds like he'll be coming into conflict with his former teammates. “Last season, the Legends were the only game in town,” Klemmer said. “Now they're competing with the best and brightest. Rip Hunter has reconstituted what the Time Masters were, so the existential question for the Legends is where do we fit into this universe?” As for new additions, a new villain will arise in the form of Kuasa, Vixen's granddaughter. Tala Ashe will also join the Waverider crew as Zari Adrianna Tomaz, a Muslim-American woman from 2030. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/legends_of_tomorrow/legends-of-tomorrow-season-3-trailer-released-both-captain-cold-damien-darhk-will-return-a152743 7. Spoiler Room: Scoop on Supergirl, Once Upon a Time, Defenders, and more (Date 27 July 2017) a. Is there any chance Alura is actually still alive on Supergirl? — With Erica Durance joining the show in a recast of Alura, EW pressed new showrunners Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner for answers at Comic-Con. “Shrouded in mystery, those questions,” Queller said coyly. Rovner added: “We wanted to keep Alura's presence on the show because it really connects Kara to Krypton and her roots and what it meant to see her family and her planet destroyed. It's an emotional grounding that's always important.” However, there's a good chance Mon-El ended up in the Phantom Zone — you know, the same Kryptonian prison that Alura had a hand in sending criminals to, so what if she escaped the destruction of Krypton and ended up there herself? Another dodge from the EPs: “Where Mon-El is and how he comes back is the central mystery of our season,” Queller said. “But the theme of this season is what does it mean to be human? Kara is going to be especially grappling with that, and all of the characters are. The loss of her family and Krypton impacts that a lot. The mother-daughter relationship is something we still want to explore in whatever fashion.” b. http://ew.com/tv/2017/07/27/spoiler-room-supergirl-once-upon-time-defenders/ 8. THE FLASH Star Grant Gustin Says It's The Show's Goal To Adapt CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS (Date 25 July 2017) a. Speaking to ComicBook at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, Grant Gustin confirmed that while it's still a long time from happening, it's been the goal to eventually adapt Crisis on Infinite Earths on the show . "We don't really talk about it on a yearly basis but it was mentioned early on and that's a goal. Obviously we'd have to go I think ten years to reach that, so there's a possibility for sure. It'll be fun to get there." The massive multiverse event saw the collapse of multiple parallel universes, along with the "death" of The Flash himself. The story has been hinted at since the pilot episode of the show, where the Reverse Flash views a newspaper headline from the future stating that The Flash has "vanished in a crisis". Showrunner Todd Helbing also spoke to CB about the upcoming season 4, which he promised will be "fun" again after the "doom and gloom" of season 3. "Last year, once we showed Iris die in the future, to keep up that doom and gloom, it becomes a burden, and not just on us writing-wise, on the show and it just sort of had this pall over the season that I think we didn't expect to be so heavy;” there is “a conscious effort of ours to really go back to everybody enjoyed being on this team and with each other, and make The Flash have fun again.” b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/the_flash/the-flash-star-grant-gustin-says-its-the-shows-goal-to-adapt-crisis-on-infinite-earths-a152832 9. THE FLASH Is Reborn In The Official Comic-Con Trailer For The Upcoming Fourth Season (Date 22 July 2017) a. For the first time since the series' inception, a new character is taking on the voiceover and she doesn't sound quite like her usual hopeful self as the months without Barry have taken a serious toll on her. The new trailer also teases new villains, including a very interesting looking Samurai and a few returning faces. b. https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/the_flash/the-flash-is-reborn-in-the-official-comic-con-trailer-for-the-upcoming-fourth-season-a152748 10. The Flash's Grant Gustin Says Speed Force Will Change Barry (Date 25 July 2017) a. “We're not necessarily going to see Barry's experience in the Speed Force. We'll see kind of the effects that the Speed Force has had on Barry, and he's been in there six months real-time,” Gustin started. “I suspect the Speed Force is kind of nonlinear with time, so Barry has experienced his entire life from star to end infinity times over since he's been in there. It's almost like a fresh start for me as an actor.” b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/25/the-flash-speed-force-grant-gustin/ 11. Legends of Tomorrow Announces Tracy Ifeachor as S3 Villain (Date 26 July 2017) a. DC's Legends of Tomorrow will get mighty personal for Vixen in Season 3. During the show's panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Kuasa — the sister of Mari McCabe's Vixen — was announced as a villain for the upcoming season. Now, we can put a face to the name. Quantico star Tracy Ifeachor will play the character. Since Kuasa is Mari's sister, that also makes her the granddaughter of Amaya, who is slated to be a main character in Legends Season 3. At SDCC, executive producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed that the two will cross paths at some point this season, saying, “We're looking forward to the inevitable confrontation between Maisie [Richardson-Sellers]'s character and her granddaughter.” b. http://www.cbr.com/legends-of-tomorrow-kuasa-tracy-ifeachor/ 12. The Flash Season 4 Set Photos Show New Female Villain (Date 29 July 2017) a. YVRShoots.com recently shared pictures of The Flash's newest foe, who will reportedly appear the third episode of the season, entitled 'Luck Me a Lady.' In one set of photos, an actress is robbing a bank in a red dress, while other photos show the same actress running after a bus in a rather noteworthy casino outfit. Fans were quick to recognize the casino dealer outfit as that belonging to the DC Comics villain Becky Sharpe, a.k.a. Hazard. Hazard has appeared throughout the DC Comics mythos as a member of the Injustice Society, and was the granddaughter of the original Gambler. The antagonist is bestowed with psionic powers, which allow her to cause good or bad "accidents" to her foes. b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/29/the-flash-set-photos-show-new-female-villain/ ARROW CAST AND CREW INTERVIEWS 1. Arrow's Emily Bett Rickards And Echo Kellum Explain Sexy Threats (Date: 28 July 2017) a. During a Comic Con Interview with Arrow's leading lady Emily Bett Rickards, we were joined by series regular Echo Kellum, who brought out Rickards's playful side. Rather than trying to finish our interview with Rickards and pull one or both of them back on track, we went with the more entertaining option of egging them on, asking among other things: "Can you tell me more about 'sexy threats?'" b. http://comicbook.com/2017/07/28/arrows-emily-bett-rickards-and-echo-kellum-explain-sexy-threats/ NEXT EPISODE Link to Promo: (Date: 08 March 2017) https://www.comicbookmovie.com/tv/dc/legends_of_tomorrow/legends-of-tomorrow-new-extended-promo-for-season-2-episode-14-moonshot-a149472 Episode: “Moonshot” [Season 2 Episode 14] Air Date: Tuesday, March 14, 2017 Summary: The Legends learn where the last fragment of the Spear of Destiny is hidden when they track Commander Steel to NASA Headquarters in 1970. One spear to rule them all, one spear to find them, one spear to bring them all and in the darkness bind them. Synopsis Rip Hunter reveals the Legion of Doom has been hiding out of time at the Vanishing Point. The Legends return, seeking the final two pieces of the Spear. On reconnaissance duty, the Atom keeps an eye on Thawne while staying out of sight this time. Jax and Rip find pieces of the Spear hidden in an obelisk that Firestorm quickly transmutes into jelly beans (yum!). Rory revisits the spot where Snart sacrificed himself to save the team and Sara urges him to return to the ship before they are caught. Thawne is notified that the vault holding the Spear has been compromised, but he is too late. The Waverider vanishes before his eyes as he speeds out of his lair. The Legends lay the pieces of the Spear in close proximity and it heals itself into one whole Spear before their eyes. In an attempt to destroy it, Mick lights up the Spear with his heat gun, but no damage is done. Instead, a fiery writing appears on the Spear. Nate translates the message: born of blood, undone by blood. The Legends decide the only course of action is to destroy the Ring, er, Spear, by obtaining the blood of Christ. According to legend, it’s buried in the north of France and the team decide to travel to the one point in time they can go to and consult with the man who wrote an account of the legend: J.R.R. Tolkien. The historical record shows J.R.R. Tolkien was stationed in the north of France during World War I and contracted trench fever. He was subsequently discharged. Posing as British army medical personnel, Rip and Nate “kidnap” Tolkien and cure his fever so he may assist them in finding the blood of Christ. While searching for Tolkien, Rory is confronted by Leonard Snart, and divulges their entire plan because he thinks he is hallucinating. Unfortunately, Snart has been recruited from the past to join the Legion of Doom. Back on the Waverider, Rory hears the Spear calling to him, willing him to change his destiny. Stein confronts Rory, warning to stay away from the Spear and Rory gets in his face, telling him about Snart. Stein assures him he is seeing things and he heads out with the Backstreet Boys to a chapel in Amiens. After discovering the resting place of Sir Gawain and a map to the blood of Christ, the Legion of Doom arrives on the scene and confronts our team. Rory stands by the Legends and helps them escape back to the Waverider. Amaya admits to Rory that she can also hear the Spear calling to her. Sara calls a team meeting and a plan is formed for the Fellowship of the Spear. Amaya channels her inner Boromir, insisting they can use the powerful artifact to their advantage, but the Fellowship out votes her and decide to travel to No Man’s Land/Mordor to retrieve the blood of Christ and destroy the Spear/Ring. The Legends head into the Battle of the Somme and broker a cease fire long enough to remain in one piece and retrieve the blood. Sara hands the Spear of Destiny to Mick and uncovers the vial. The Legion of Doom arrives and Mick, feeling the Legends have never truly trusted him, joins the Legion and delivers the Spear. Eobard Thawne speeds in and carries the Legion members, and Mick, back to the Vanishing Point. The ceasefire has ended and our team fights their way back to the Waverider. Merlin joins the Legion with the Word of God to activate the Spear and change the course of destiny. Don’t play with fire, Mick. So yes, she is Talia al Ghul, but Oliver obviously doesn't know that.” Link:http://ew.com/tv/2017/03/10/spoiler-room-this-is-us-legends-tomorrow-vampire-diaries/ Arrow's Colton Haynes Got Engaged, With Help From Cher (Date: 12 March 2017) Former Arrow and Teen Wolf star, Colton Haynes, and Jeff Leatham, who manages the floral designs at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, got engaged. GENERAL DC TV NEWS Who Can Save Iris on 'The Flash'? Candice Patton Has the BEST Answer (Date: 15 March 2017) Ever since Barry (Grant Gustin) slipped through time and saw god of speed Savitar slaughtering his true love, Iris (Candice Patton), The Flash has been all about changing the future to save her life. Honestly, it's starting to look a little bleak...especially since the producers haven't even clued Patton into what lies ahead for her character! "No, they didn't tell me," she confesses with a laugh. "I have no idea and it's a little alarming. I think I know, but you never really know. I am just in the dark as the audience so it will be really interesting to see if Team Flash can pull it off. I'm hoping they can, because I need a job." He's popped up here and there over the course of the last season in hallucinations or flashbacks, but next week's episode will see him finally return in earnest. As the latest trailer indicates, it is a suitably tragic moment for his former comrades, because he bemusedly looks ready for a deadly fight. Throughout the season, Prometheus/Chase's attacks kept intensifying and becoming more and more personal. In his determination to destroy Oliver, Prometheus went so far as to kidnap Green Arrow's girlfriend, Susan, determined to make Oliver suffer as much as he has. Ahead of the next stage of Prometheus' master plan, CBR spoke with actor Josh Segarra about what he feels makes his bad guy tick, and his plans for Oliver Queen and Team Arrow. Link:http://www.cbr.com/interview-arrow-prometheus-josh-segarra/ Is Arrow's Talia Al Ghul Good Or Evil? Here's What The Actress Says (Date: 14 March 2017) Arrow got a whole lot more badass in the flashbacks in Season 5 thanks to the introduction of none other than Talia al Ghul, who is best known as the daughter of Ra's al Ghul in DC Comics. Arrow's version of Talia stands on her own, however, and she doesn't seem beholden to her father in the slightest. Lexa Doig plays Talia in the flashbacks, and she has brought layers of ambiguity to the character that has led many viewers to wonder if Talia is good or evil deep down. Doig recently spoke to CinemaBlend about her role on Arrow. She addressed why she and the other showrunners made Chase Prometheus instead of Vigilante, why those chose now to make this reveal, what drives Chase to torture Oliver Queen and more. Why make Chase Prometheus instead of Vigilante? “I think one of the reasons we did that was because everyone would be thinking, “Of course he's Vigilante!” Adrian Chase is Vigilante in the comic books, as you pointed out, and we thought it would be a really fun sort of twist to do what we've always done on the show, which is to take the comic book mythology and turn it on its head and see what kind of story we could mine from a surprise like that. It was also just something different for this season. We wanted to change up how we introduced the big bad and change up when we did it and how we did it. Hopefully, we succeeded in that this year.” She also said that Prometheus is going to mess with Lance as well. Makaro. The team has been in flux all season, with Diggle being out for certain periods of time, Artemis betraying the team, and the loss of Ragman. Curtis and Wild Dog have managed to stick around, though, and the team seems poised to finally get a new Black Canary full time. It would be unfortunate for Olliver's ragtag group to dissolve so quickly, but that definitely might be the case. The cast list includes all the usual suspects, like the “Legends” team and the members of the Legion of Doom. It also includes a surprise guest star: J.R.R. Tolkien, played by Jack Turner (Freeform's “Stitchers”). Since we haven't seen a synopsis for “Aruba” just yet, we don't actually know if this is the J.R.R. Tolkien or just another person with that incredibly specific and unique name. The cast list also includes a few other surprise names. Wentworth Miller and Katie Cassidy will reprise their roles as Leonard Snart and Laurel Lance, respectively. Poague's Accelerated Man will debut on February 28 in the episode “Attack on Central City.” A new photo from the episode reveals the comic-accurate look of Poague's Accelerated Man, who is a Speed Force Conduit and Earth-19's version of the Flash. In the comics, Earth-19 is ruled by the 21st Century's King George and has only just begun enjoying “electric technology.” As a Speed Force conduit in this strange dimension, Accelerated Man enjoys a massively increased heal rate, increased perception, the ability to phase through solid objects and, of course, super speed — basically, he's the Flash. (Don't worry, Arrow has already been renewed for season 6.) EW hit the set of the Vancouver-based series to get Amell's take on Oliver's current predicaments as the show builds toward its big season 5 finale. That certainly appears to match the aesthetic of director Patty Jenkins' film. Three years ago, Sam Scudder and Rosalind Dillon, former cohorts of Leonard Snart, were caught in the original particle accelerator explosion. In the present, Barry begins training Jesse on how to use her powers. Wells suggests the team locate a doppleganger of his from another Earth to replace him on the team once he and Jesse leave. Scudder returns from being trapped in a mirror-like dimension with the ability to transport himself and others through reflective surfaces. He reunites with Dillon, who now has vertigo-inducing powers, and they go on a crime spree. Barry and Jesse (as "Jesse Quick") confront them but are defeated, and Barry ends up trapped inside a mirror by Scudder. Caitlin secretly uses her emerging ice powers to help Barry free himself from his predicament. He and Jesse then successfully capture Scudder and Dillon. After evaluating the candidates, the team recruits the friendly and eccentric Wells of Earth-19, despite the Earth-2 Wells' misgivings. Jesse and her father then return to Earth-2, with Wells apprising Cisco about Barry's suspicious escape. That night, Caitlin accidentally freezes the water in her shower and her appearance begins showing signs of her Earth-2 doppelgänger, Killer Frost.
The team learns of a time pirate stranded in the American Civil War. Upon arriving, they encounter a black man, Henry Scott, being chased by Confederate soldiers turned into zombies from a virus carried by the pirate. The team defeats the group of zombies, but Henry is killed. Before his death, Henry reveals he is a Union spy assigned to steal Confederate battle plans for General Grant, and asks Jefferson to complete his mission. The team discovers that Mick is infected with the virus and return him to the Waverider, where Ray and Martin ultimately manage to cure him. Sara and Nate go to warn Grant about the zombies, while Jax and Amaya attempt to steal the plans. Jefferson runs afoul of a plantation owner and is locked up. Amaya frees him, along with other black prisoners. They find the plans and burn down the mansion during a zombie attack. Meanwhile, Grant's camp is also attacked by zombies. Sara formulates a successful plan to kill them using Nate's powers. Jax, as Henry Scott, gives the plans to Grant, which will ensure a Union battle victory. A grateful Mick gives Leonard Snart's cold gun to Ray.

In our season one finale, Rip leaves the remaining members of the team back in 2016 to continue hunting for Savage alone. After attempting to move on with their lives, each member of the team returns to the spot where the Waverider left them, intent on signaling it to come back. Rip returns and the team is reunited. Sara confronts Rip and he admits he knew Laurel would die, explaining they cannot go back to save her without sentencing her entire family to die. When trying to come-up with a plan, a helmet in Rip's office relocates itself and the team discovers a note from Kendra. Savage, Kendra and Carter are in France, 1944. We learn Savage's end game, and why Kendra and Carter are still alive: he needs their blood to activate the Thanagarian technology in the meteorites to erase all of time and plunge the world back to 1700 BC. While Firestorm attempts to harness transmutation, Dr. Stein realizes that Savage is going to detonate the meteorites in three different time periods. After doing complicated math, which, trust us, is always right, he discovers the three time periods where Savage is headed. The team hatches a plan to kill Savage in three different time periods after exposure to the meteorite radiation renders him mortal. Surprise! After an entire season of trying to kill Savage, the plan finally works and Savage is defeated. Unfortunately, the team fails to diffuse the third meteorite and Rip decides to sacrifice himself to save the team. After being "reunited" with his family and gaining a sense a peace, Rip wakes to Gideon explaining that she isn't ready to die. He decides he isn't either and sends the meteor into the sun while time jumping back to 2021 to pick-up the team. He proposes they should protect the timeline, as a team, and sends them all back to 2016 to make their decisions, except for Mick. Mr. Rory returns to 2013 so he can say goodbye to his partner in crime and friend, Leonard Snart. Just as the team come to the decision that they will rejoin with Rip, they are interrupted by... another Waverider? No one knows from when, or why, it has returned, and Rex Tyler steps off the ship to keep them from leaving on their new mission. He proclaims he is a part of the Justice Society of America and Mick Rory sent him back to this point to stop them from getting on the Waverider and head to their deaths. In this week's episode, our band of heroes travel back to the 80's in pursuit of Vandal Savage. After breaking into the Pentagon, our team quickly falls apart as things begin to take a turn for the worse. Using the intel they have managed to gather, the team tracks Vandal Savage to Russia where his team of scientists are trying to create a Soviet Firestorm. We are introduced to a new foe, Valentina Vostok, the nuclear physicist working to create the Soviet Firestorm matrix. In our first mission, Ray Palmer and Leonard Snart try to seduce Vostok in an attempt to learn about her top secret research. When they fail, Dr. Stein accompanies them to the research facility with dire consequences for the team. In a side mission, Rip, Heatwave and Jackson investigate the appearance of Chronos in the timeline which leads to a surprising revelation. Meanwhile, Sara and Kendra remain on the ship to tame their inner warriors.

Note: This episode was recorded prior to the Legends Of Tomorrow trailer, thus our comments will be both dated and uniformed… enjoy! Episode Description: Cisco discovers that Wells has been supercharging his speed while he sits in his wheelchair, which is why he is so much faster than Barry. The particle accelerator is activated and the team realizes that Wells has been at S.T.A.R. Labs the entire time and he has repaired the accelerator. While investigating, Wells escapes but the team is able to find and rescue Eddie, who is disillusioned after Wells showed him that Iris marries Barry in the future. Eddie later tells Iris what he knows of her future and ends their relationship. Worried that when the accelerator reaches full power the metahumans imprisoned inside will be killed, the team decides to relocate them to the A.R.G.U.S. prison on Lian Yu. In order to set up a safe transport, Barry is forced to go to Leonard Snart for help. Snart agrees but only after Barry erases Snart’s criminal record and history from the CCPD database. Snart sabotages the transport and allows the metahumans to escape. Just as the accelerator fully charges, Wells arrives back at the lab, and Barry, Ronnie, and Oliver all meet outside to fight him. After each tries battling Wells individually, they coordinate efforts and Oliver finally stops him with a nanite injection that disables Wells’ speed. As Barry begins to relive the previous day, Dr. Wells realizes what happened and warns Barry not to change any event for fear that he will create a bigger problem as the universe balances itself. Barry does not listen and instead captures Mark Mardon before he can kidnap Joe. Meanwhile, Leonard Snart and Mick Rory return to Central City. Leonard sends his sister Lisa after Cisco, whom they force to rebuild the cold and heat guns, and a third gun for Lisa that turns people into gold, under threat that they will kill Cisco's brother. Barry realizes that Dr. Wells was right, and his actions have resulted in Cisco's kidnapping and Iris rejecting his romantic advances. Cisco returns and reveals that Leonard tortured his brother until Cisco revealed the Flash's true identity. Barry goes after the Snarts, and the two develop an uneasy truce: Snart will not reveal Barry's identity, will no longer kill innocent people, and stay away from Barry's friends in exchange for Barry not locking him away in the particle accelerator. The Reverse-Flash kills a local reporter and destroys evidence linking Dr. Wells to the death of Simon Stagg. The reporter's vanishing causes Barry to think Joe might be right about Dr. Wells.

Wells.
A SOURCE IS A SOURCE One of the things Tony and I discuss in this week's CCU podcast is The Flash's willingness to adhere to the source material...so long as it suits them. It's a tricky road to walk (run?), but the writing team has learned to navigate it masterfully. For several years in the early 2000s, I dove into the Flash comics like they were a refreshing pool and I was on fire. Geoff Johns focused on the men behind the masks. The Flash was ancillary to Wally West, a mechanic w/ Keystone City's police force. He loved hockey, his wife, and his city. Captain Cold would set down his cold gun, remove his parka, and become Leonard Snart...a coffee-drinking weisenheimer with a fierce, if unique, moral code and equally fierce loyalty to his friends. He also loved hockey. Read more... The post CCU 31 – S1E13 – The Nuclear Man appeared first on Golden Spiral Media- Entertainment Podcasts, Technology Podcasts & More.
As Barry works on improving his speed through various training exercises, Leonard Snart returns to Central City with the freeze gun and a new partner, Mick Rory, to set a trap for the Flash. Barry discovers his plan, and agrees with Dr. Wells to not engage Snart in the hope that he goes away and no one gets hurt like the last time. When the Flash fails to show, Snart and Rory, who now has a gun that can emit absolute hot temperatures, kidnap Caitlin to force Barry out of hiding. Cisco and Barry realize that if they can get Snart and Rory to cross the streams of their respective weapons it will cancel out the effects. The Flash meets Snart and Rory in the middle of a city for a showdown, exposing himself to the media. After multiple failed attempts, Barry eventually gets them to cross the streams with Eddie's help, successfully damaging the weapons and disabling the criminal pair. While in transport to Iron Heights Prison, Snart and Rory are broken out by Snart's sister. Meanwhile, Caitlin investigates the cause of Ronnie's transformation.

The Flash (Grant Gustin) stops a robbery but the culprits get away after shooting a guard, and The Flash chooses to save the man instead of following the criminals. Joe (Jesse L. Martin) shows Barry a book of suspects and Barry identifies Leonard Snart (guest star Wentworth Miller, “Prison Break”) as the leader of the group. While investigating the case, Barry gets a surprise visit from an old friend — Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards, “Arrow”), who heard about his new abilities and came to check them out for herself. She joins him at S.T.A.R. Labs to help stop Snart after it's revealed that Snart his gotten his hands on a stolen “cold gun,” which could kill The Flash. Dr. Wells (Tom Cavanagh) is furious when he finds out that Cisco (Carlos Valdes) built the cold gun without telling anyone and now it's missing. Meanwhile, Iris (Candice Patton) is getting the silent treatment from Joe because of her relationship with Eddie (Rick Cosnett). Finally, The Flash and Captain Cold have an epic confrontation. Glen Winter directed the episode written by Goff Johns & Kai Yu Wu.
“Going Rogue” Episode Description: Dr. Wells begins testing Barry’s powers by forcing him to perform multiple tasks as superspeed. In the middle of the tests, a group of men attempt to highjack an armored truck carrying a priceless diamond. Barry races over and stops the crime, as well as identifies Leonard Snart from a set of police mugshots. Felicity Smoak arrives to check on Barry, after learning that he woke from his coma. Happy to see Felicity, Barry introduces her to his friends at S.T.A.R. Labs. To combat the “Streak”, Snart acquires stolen tech from S.T.A.R. Labs, which includes a cryonic gun. Cisco reveals to Barry that he created the gun to stop Barry should he turn out to be a killer like the other metahumans they encountered. Felicity helps the team locate Snart, who sets a trap for Barry. Cisco, Caitlin, and Felicity arrive in time to save Barry, and Snart is able to escape. Later, Snart tracks down a former partner, who has an affinity for fire, and offers him a place by Snart’s side taking back Central City from the masked superhero.
