Acts 17:10-15 ESV 10 The brothers immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived they went into the Jewish synagogue. 11 Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so. 12 Many of them therefore believed, with not a few Greek women of high standing as well as men. 13 But when the Jews from Thessalonica learned that the word of God was proclaimed by Paul at Berea also, they came there too, agitating and stirring up the crowds. 14 Then the brothers immediately sent Paul off on his way to the sea, but Silas and Timothy remained there. 15 Those who conducted Paul brought him as far as Athens, and after receiving a command for Silas and Timothy to come to him as soon as possible, they departed. THE NOBLE BELIEVERS When God allows a set back, He is opening a new opportunity. Indeed, He directs our steps as He did to Paul to escape death fromThessalonica to Berea. Was he afraid to die? Definitely not! He has zeal but according to wisdom. Nobody can quench the flaming heart of Paul and the team. Instead of resting at Berea, they went to synagogue to preach. Amazingly, they received the word with all eagerness. In fact, these Jewish believers were more noble than in Thessalonica. Why? They were examining the Scriptures daily to see if what Paul had preached were so. The Bereans' response to study for themselves is unique and admirable (1 John 4:1). Their study and acceptance surely had allowed Jesus' story to reach further into the synagogue's leadership. This provided Paul and Silas more freedom to teach definitely. This is a beautiful example in Scripture which endorse an informed and reasonable faith (1 John 4:1; 2 Cor 13:5) It's not enough to receive the gospel by faith. We must grow and demonstrate it in our lives. As Paul said, “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”[Col 2:6,7] And, this needs our faithfulness in spending time in the scriptures. The scriptures builds us up. [Acts 20:32] As the psalmist writes; “his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.”[Psa 1:2-3] Our nobility rests in the depth of our grasp of Scriptures. -------------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram
Acts 14:24-28 ESV 24 Then they passed through Pisidia and came to Pamphylia. 25 And when they had spoken the word in Perga, they went down to Attalia, 26 and from there they sailed to Antioch, where they had been commended to the grace of God for the work that they had fulfilled. 27 And when they arrived and gathered the church together, they declared all that God had done with them, and how he had opened a door of faith to the Gentiles. 28 And they remained no little time with the disciples. FOLLOWING UP THE BELIEVERS On their way back home in this first missionary journey, Paul and Barnabas revisited their new friends. From Derbe, they could have crossed the Tarsus mountain range and taken a short boat ride. Instead, they backtrack through the cities where they have established churches to give more instruction and select leaders (v.23). Thus, they passed through Pisidia to Pamphylia to Perga to Attali and to Antioch, where they were commissioned. They knew that preaching the gospel and making converts is not enough to establish strong local churches. The new believers need leadership, more training, and answers to their questions (v. 22–23). They know they can't directly pastor every church they plant. They must trust that God will equip local people to take on leadership roles so the church can grow. The qualifications for elders are given in 1 Tim 3:1–7 and Titus 1:5–9, but other notes can be found in Jas 5:14, 1 Pet 5:1–4, and Heb 13:17. Push forward, Paul will visit these churches again on his second journey, meeting Timothy in Derbe of Lystra (Acts 16:1–6), and his third (Acts 18:23). He'll also write the book of Galatians to make sure the Gentiles understand they are saved without following the Jewish law. Paul's job is to establish the churches well. It's the Holy Spirit's work to keep them. Paul and Barnabas have arrived home in Antioch of Syria after spreading Jesus' offer of salvation and establishing churches in the territory of Galatia in central modern-day Asia Minor (Acts 13:1–3). This is the first report of Gentile followers of Jesus, who had not previously worshiped the Jewish God in Europe. The first was in Syrian Antioch. God has promised Abraham that He would bless the world through him (Gen 12:3). Isaiah prophesied God telling the Messiah, "I will make you as a light for the nations, that my salvation may reach to the end of the earth" (Isa 49:6). God's plan was always to save Gentiles as well as Jews. -------------------- Visit and FOLLOW Gospel Light Filipino on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram

Acts 11:27-30 - Now in these days prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. 28 And one of them named Agabus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world (this took place in the days of Claudius). 29 So the disciples determined, every one according to his ability, to send relief to the brothers[d] living in Judea. 30 And they did so, sending it to the elders by the hand of Barnabas and Saul. On this episode of the Acts series, we look at the incredible unity of the early church. This unity is unlike anything we see in the church today. From this study we look at some of the reasons why we do not see similar unity in the church today. I put forth two possible reasons as to why we do not see the kind of unity we witness in the early church. The first being the 'worldliness' that we have allowed to infiltrate our lives as believers and second our lack of singular purpose or focus. This week's episode is titled, Confronted by the Gospel of Jesus. We will see that Jesus confronts unbelievers to trust in Him and calls them to live on mission for Him as part of His church. This is what we will study in this episode of Through the word. Point 1: Confronted by the Savior (Acts 9:3-9). Point 2: Called for a Mission (Acts 9:10-16). Point 3: United with Believers (Acts 9:17-20). Next Steps
We're going back to Acts! We actually started our series in Acts, Outward Church, a year ago. I want to take a moment to look back, because it helps us look forward. When Jesus left his disciples and ascended into heaven he gave believers a special mission, which becomes a roadmap for Acts. Acts 1:8 (ESV) But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all

Our guest speaker, Chuck Hess, will continue in Acts. Peter transitions here from someone who’s last moment was one of cowardice to proclaiming the kingdom and gospel.
For me one of the most exciting things in life is to see someone new come to faith in Christ, or someone who has been kind of surface-level about Jesus, really commit and dive deep. I love the passion, the excitement, the willingness to share about Christ. It's a special time. If you're a new Christian, this sermon is for you. How can we keep a good thing going? I want to talk about how we can plug you in

Rathiulung Elias, ‘Fellowship of Believers’ (Acts 2:42–47)
Rathiulung Elias, ‘Fellowship of Believers’ (Acts 2:42–47)
Through the Book of Acts in the Bible, evangelists proclaimed the gospel of Jesus mostly to those were already devout believers of God who accepted the Jewish Scriptures. In Acts 18, a woman and her husband pull aside an eloquent speaker who teaches about Jesus accurately but his teaching about baptism is not accurate. Furthermore, another preacher will teach twelve men about another baptism than what they received. This message is relevant to those considering their baptism in comparison to the baptism that Jesus commanded to become a disciple of Christ.

“They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” This is one of the most quoted verses in Acts 2, following the descent of the Holy Spirit. It's a profound expression of true fellowship, and Pastor Phil helps us understand how best to apply it!
