Really Interesting Women - the podcastEpisode 140 Bianca ChatfieldBianca Chatfield is a former Australian netball player. In fact, she was one of the youngest players to have debuted for Australia. She's won a world championship, Commonwealth Games gold as well as 6 combined premierships with Melbourne Phoenix and Melbourne Vixens. The transition from successful athlete to what I'll call the outside world, is never easy. And it's a testament to her ability, drive and determination that she would become a leading media personality and business owner. Bianca is, without doubt, one of the most prominent female voices in Australian sport. She also works across a variety of TV and radio shows, launched a book in 2016 called Every Girl Needs A Plan and, always seeking new challenges, in 2018 she and a former teammate, became reality TV stars when they were one of the teams on the channel 9 reality show, The Block. But her reality show connections don't stop there. Her partner is also a reality show star. It's a very modern love story. Head to the link in my bio to have a listen to our conversation. Success is a word that we aspire to embody. Western culture often associates it with achievements, realised dreams, wealth or fame. But success is generally in the eye of the beholder. Our own markers of success may be very different from those looking at our lives from the outside, and who knows what's happening behind the mask of a seemingly successful person. This weeks guests are no strangers to the idea of success. Bianca Chatfield is the former vice captain of the Aussie diamond netball team who won gold medals at both the Commonwealth Games and World netball Championships. Since retiring, she's featured on various TV shows, hosts on fox sports and is the current head coach of the Victorian Junior Netball Academy.Craig Harper, is one of Australia's most respected leaders, in health, high-performance, corporate change and personal transformation. He founded and owned Harpers Personal Training which, ran for almost 25 years. He's a qualified exercise scientist and is about to complete his PhD in Neuropsychology. In this episode we discuss:-What's special about Chris Martin and Coldplay.-The trap of living unconsciously.-How versions of success change over time.-The feeling of ‘Ananda' or Bliss as the aspiration rather than the action.-The Australian Diamonds open and vulnerable feedback sessions.-Josh's 5 P's for controlling the things you can in work and life.-Overthinking and thinking about thinking.-Craig's journey through childhood obesity-The idea of success vs the reality of it.-The need for fear and courage.-The role service plays in success.Keep up to date with Bianca @biancachatfield and Craig @craiganthonyharperBe sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel to WATCH the full episode @gobehindthemaskFollow us on Instagram and TikTok @gobehindthemaskVisit www.gobehindthemask.com.au for more information and sign up to our ‘Weekly Wisdoms' to begin YOUR journey behind the mask. Bianca Chatfield is one of the many elite athletes I trained over my decades working with various teams, athletes and sporting organisations. Apart from being one of my charges, we have also enjoyed a great friendship over the years and for this episode, we caught up to shoot the breeze about life post-sport, and it's fair to say that she hasn't been sitting on her hands! *Bio: Bianca Chatfield is a former Australia netball international. Between 2001 and 2014 she made 59 senior appearances for Australia, was a member of the Australian teams that won the gold medals at the 2007 World Netball Championships and the 2014 Commonwealth Games. During a thirteen year playing career she also played in six premiership winning teams - four with the Melbourne Phoenix and two with the Melbourne Vixens. She captained the Vixens for eight seasons, including when they won the 2009 and 2014 ANZ Championships.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Growing up on the Mornington Peninsula, Bianca Chatfield was happy to try any sport she could. And while it wasn't visible in the media, netball was the one place where Bianca felt like she fitted in and could hold herself up high. Through a lot of determination and grit, Bianca played at the highest levels of the sport. And the longer she played, the more she realised that it was less about the competition (although really, does that competitive edge really ever leave an athlete?) and more about the team, the experience and the joy of being out on court. Bianca's story beautifully explains why sport is so much more than sport. How the relationships you foster can support you well into life in the real world. How problem solving skills make going on TV shows like The Block a very non-nonsense affair. And how moving your body in any way is always a good idea. I hope you enjoy this chat as much as I did! You might know of Bianca Chatfield from her 17-year elite sporting career as an Australian netballer. From being one of the youngest players ever to play for Australia, to winning Gold medals, being dropped from the team, getting back in and becoming captain, Bianca has a fascinating journey. One constant throughout her career has been a focus on teaching, leading and mentoring her teammates. These days, in Bianca's words she is ‘freelancing around the sporting, media and leadership worlds'. She conducts leadership coaching and keynotes based on lessons from her distinguished international sporting career. Or you might have seen her on reality show The Block, or in several TV sports commentary roles. There's plenty for us leaders to take from this wide-ranging discussion with Bianca. As always, I'd love to hear your feedback and ideas - hit me up at tristan@tristanwhite.com.au &/or on Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn Enjoy!Tristan ___ Order a FREE copy of the Culture Is Everything Book at: https://www.tristanwhite.com.au/
