This week on TCBCast, it's one of our biggest episodes ever...it's the full-length show we did LIVE! With special co-hosts Ryan Droste and Jaime Kay joining Gurdip & Justin on the 1st ever TCBCast Random Albums Tournament. Each host gets 2 randomly drawn Elvis albums and then have to argue that their albums are the best! It's chaos on a mass scale but a ton of fun! Then, Justin phones a friend mid-show and brings in another "Jamie K" as Jamie Kelley joins the fray, tapping in for Jaime Kay when she has to take off for a few minutes. Then once a winner is declared, we discuss our Songs of the Week, highlighting the histories behind 4 Elvis songs. Jaime Kay takes us to church for the rockin' "Let Us Pray" from 1969, while Gurdip surprises everyone with the very early country Sun Records cut, "I'll Never Let You Go (Little Darlin')." Justin starts to highlight "C'mon Everybody," but it quickly get sidetracked by a mini-review of "Viva Las Vegas" when Gurdip & Jaime Kay come to blows over Ann-Margret. But Ryan brings it all home with the rockabilly classic "Baby Let's Play House." It's not often you bear witness to the eve of a musical movement. Floordoor Records first releases won't appear until late-September, but bloggers and social media are already hyped by the singles and videos that have been trickling out over the past few months. Not to mention a slew of incendiary live performances at the Bed-Stuy venue, C'mon Everybody. This September and October, Floordoor's inaugural two albums will arrive from A Bunch of Dead People and Public Speaking, the respective projects of founders Ruben Sindo Acosta and Jason Anthony Harris. Additional albums from label mates Supplier, My Love MHz and Eternal Garb will eventually round out the Brooklyn label's first wave. Their mission statement? Perhaps: hullabaloo and tumult in concert with harmonies and grooves. The fledgling collective plans to be a home for genre-daring music that attracts listeners who are as progressive as the artist roster. Now she resides in the Bronx, brewing lyrics and melodies with a voice that matches the name. She’s a classically trained Brooklyn Bombshell with roots in Soul, R&B and Latin music. Her unique vocals are the product of study of soprano and tenor singers alike. Her skills landed her an opportunity to work on Off-Broadway productions with the late Titus Walker and The Ujamma Black Theater. She even had the opportunity to sing for and honor American Idol winner/R&B phenom Fantasia. She recently put out a new EP, entitled ‘Black Gypsy’ on iTunes & Amazon, and is currently the most sought-after singer in the New York City Burlesque scene. It’s no surprise that on a given night, you can find this Sultry Songstress performing at well-known venues such as (le) Poisson Rouge, Duane Park, Camaradas El Barrio, C'mon Everybody and many more. She’s dedicated to bringing back the classic vibes of R&B grooves with herunique brand of Storm-iness. It has to be heard to be understood.
