Danny Smith shares chilling military stories from his time working in a Naval hospital and aboard the USS Peoria. From paranormal experiences in a Civil War-era hospital in Virginia to eerie encounters aboard the ship, Danny recounts seeing shadowy figures, unexplained noises, and vivid interactions with spirits. He recalls the strange happenings on the hospital's 15th floor—where objects were thrown at him and a mysterious presence haunted the halls. On the USS Peoria, Danny witnessed a ghostly figure in a Navy uniform and heard a disembodied voice while checking equipment. The experiences don't stop there, with unsettling moments occurring in the very areas where soldiers once perished. On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Christopher Carter and Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko hand out Driver awards for the team's bests and worsts in 2024. Was Cam Heyward the team's best player? Or do T.J. Watt and others have arguments? Was Justin Fields the biggest winner, earning favor with his early victories before watching Russell Wilson and the offense struggle down the stretch? Was Cam Sutton GM Omar Khan's worst acquisition? Zach Frazier the best draft pick? Chris Boswell the best supporting player? And special teams coach Danny Smith coach Mike Tomlin's best assistant coach? Our duo tackles those questions and more, including the best and worst performances of the season.
Is winning the AFC North the prize it appears to be? If the Steelers are the top wild card and play the Texans, is that better, even on the road, than a home game against the Chargers or Ravens? We weighed the options and what could work better into the Steelers favor. Which teams are scary in the AFC? Chris is hoping the Ravens falter and fall out of the race completely. The guys want an intern to go through voice messages during the show. Steelers safety Miles Killebrew joined the show. Miles talked about Thanksgiving traditions. The guys asked Miles which teammates would be best as guests on Thanksgiving and other holidays. Miles explained what cause he was putting on his cleats in the next few weeks. What is Danny Smith like? Miles got into some X's and O's stuff too.
Ex-Washinghton and Eagle Brian Mitchell joins the show! Brian has never carried his trading card in his pocket. The key to stopping Daniels. Brian says it's like any other QB, to get pressure on them. But Brian says Jayden doesn't seem to get rattled. Jayden “does not act like a rookie” Pregame meal: Brian said he wouldn't eat much if at all. The weirdest pregame ritual Brian has seen? One teammate had to throw up before every game. In this episode, we discuss the Steelers' victory over the Giants, 26-18, on Monday Night football. We discuss Calvin Austin and how the special teams under coach Danny Smith are winning games for the Steelers. We discussed Russel Wilson and his performance as a Steeler in the first two games. We do some FU E trivia, and D expresses his love for TJ Watt. Please email the show @steelersfanaticaluniverse@gmail com
November 1, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 46 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the latest transactions made by the Pittsburgh Steelers since our Tuesday episode. We talk quite a bit about the team's decision to waive OT Dylan Cook on Thursday and the thinking behind that move. The Steelers also have CB Cameron Sutton back from the reserve/Suspended list and on a roster exemption until Monday so we discuss his status right now and the state of the rest of the roster when it comes to more transaction that could be coming by next Saturday. The Steelers used their bye week to get all of their position coaches in front of the media, so Alex and I make sure to go over some meaningful and notable things that a few of them said these last few days. We highlight a few things that special teams coordinator Danny Smith had to say this week as well. Alex and I then transition into going over what we both learned from the All-22 tape from the Steelers' Monday night game against the Giants. We start on the offensive side of the football and then move over to the defense. We discuss several plays, schematics, and the play of several players during this segment. The Baltimore Ravens traded for WR Diontae Johnson a few days ago so we discuss that news and what it means for that team. We also look at the possibility of the Steelers trading for a wide receiver before next Tuesday's deadline. As usual, Alex and I use the Friday show to give all of our picks for this week's NFL games against the spread. This 104-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo from the PG joined the show. Ray credited Najee Harris for what he's done this season, but he's not sure if Harris will change the minds of the Steelers. How good is the Steelers offense? Ray doesn't think the defenses the Steelers will see are as elite as some people may assume. Ray lauded Arthur Smith for what he has done as the offense looks better than it has in years. Ray still thinks the Steelers need to add a receiver because one injury can put things into a tailspin. Ray said this is the best Mike Tomlin coaching job since 2016. Ray gave his flowers to Danny Smith for the job he has done with the special team's unit.

If we are waiting for the Steelers to play a great defense, we may be waiting a while. When can we just admit that the Steelers might have a good offense? October 25, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 43 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers as they continue to prepare for their Week 8 Monday night home game against the New York Giants. The Steelers have made a few more transactions since our last episode and those included ILB Tyler Matakevich having his 21-day window being opened and WR Andy Isabella being sighed to the practice squad. We address those two moves and go over what we might see happen transaction-wise on Monday afternoon. The Steelers first injury report of Week 8 was released on Thursday, so we make sure to recap it. We also look at the Giants' injury situation heading into Friday's practice. On Thursday, we once again heard from all three of the Steelers' coordinators, Arthur Smith, Teryl Austin, and Danny Smith. As usual, Alex and I recap the few main talking points to come out of those media sessions. The Los Angeles Rams beat the Minnesota Vikings on Thursday night and with that win it seems very doubtful that they will be trading WR Cooper Kupp. We discuss that development and then transition into talking about a few remaining trade targets the Steelers might have at the wide receiver position as the annual deadline creeps closer. We give some early thoughts on the Steelers upcoming Monday night game versus the Giants later in this show. Alex and I then give our picks against the spread for all of the Week 8 NFL games. On Monday, we will fully preview the game between the Steelers and the Giants and give our predictions for that contest. Chris knows Danny Smith very well and told us how players would run through a wall for him and Danny has a great relationship with his players. Mike Tomlin made the right call with Russell Wilson and Wilson put the ball where only his receivers could grab it.

October 21, 2024 - Season 15, Episode 41 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into talking about the Pittsburgh Steelers beating the New York Jets at home Sunday night to improve to 5-2 on the 2024 season. We go over the pregame inactive list from Sunday early in this show and discuss how that played out wasn't very surprising. We also discuss the few roster moves that the team made on Saturday. A lot was made on Sunday morning about Steelers HC Mike Tomlin going "Lone Ranger" this week when it came to his decision to start veteran QB Russell Wilson over QB Justin Fields so we discuss all of that build up to the game. We discuss the play of Wilson Sunday night from his slow start to him playing better as the game went on. We talk about several throws he made, the use and effectiveness of play-action, his overall control of the offense, how he spread the football around, and more. We discuss how Wilson's Sunday showing, while great in totality, also showed room for him to play even better moving forward. Wilson seemingly had the crowd against him early Sunday night, so we talk about the fortitude he showed to push through all of that. After talking quite a bit about Wilson's play Sunday night, Alex and I discuss several other players that made huge contributions in the win over the Jets. That list obviously includes WR George Pickens, RB Najee Harris, TE Darnell Washington TE Pat Freiermuth and of course several members of the offensive line. We discuss a few significant offensive plays that occurred during the game and go over several very relevant stats related to the victory. After talking about the offensive play from Sunday night, Alex and I address the overall play of the defense against the Jets. We discuss the tackling issues early on, the pressure amounts, the lack of overall true blitzing, and much more. We discuss the stellar play of rookie CB Beanie Bishop Jr. Sunday night that included him having two huge interceptions. We also discuss several key bat-downs in the game, the play of OLB Alex Highsmith and S DeShon Elliott and a few others as well. After talking about the defense, Alex and I of course address the great special teams play the Steelers had Sunday night against the Jets. We talk about the penalty on the extra point block, the punting and how excited that unit was for coordinator Danny Smith after the late field goal block. This 88-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted, and we close things by answering a few emails that we recently received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. I call him by his pseudonym, Danny White, but he refers to himself in this episode simply as GOD. From the late 1970s through the 1980s, Danny Smith played in some of the most original and unique bands in Erie (e.g., X-Whites, Generic Beat, Wiggling Judies, Rub The Buddah). His antics onstage were legendary, and occasionally would end up with him wearing little or nothing by the end of a show. In this frenetic interview, I try to tame the wild man long enough for him to coherently tell me his story ... and it was worth it. Don't miss this one!P.S. On the Friday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by Mike's Beer Bar, host Christopher Carter welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko to analyze the special teams unit. Is position coach Danny Smith ready for all the changes to the NFL kickoff rules, having just turned 70? Does Cordarrelle Patterson have the kick returning job locked down? Or will there be some competition? Will Cameron Johnston be an upgrade over Pressley Harvin III at punter? And how much will he need to adapt to AFC North weather conditions after playing in a dome with the Houston Texans? Our duo tackles those topics, then ponders GM Omar Khan's moves to cut WR Denzel Mims and S Trenton Thompson a little more than a month before training camp. And later, sports columnist Jason Mackey joins to weigh in on potential trade options for GM Ben Cherington and the Pirates as he looks to bolster the offense in support of standout pitchers Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller and Jared Jones ahead of the MLB trade deadline.
June 12, 2024 - Season 14, Episode 144 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday episode, Alex Kozora and I start by discussing the Pittsburgh Steelers getting HC Mike Tomlin signed to a three-year contract extension through the 2027 season. We discuss if we think the extension was worthy and if both of us still believe that Tomlin has what it takes to lead the team to another Super Bowl championship. Alex and I also look at Tomlin's biggest perceived mistakes to date and if the head coach would be willing to develop another rookie quarterback as soon as next season should both of the team's current top-two quarterbacks, Russell Wilson, and Justin Fields, not work out in 2024 for whatever reasons. The Steelers finally signed C Zach Frazier to his rookie contract on Monday, so Alex and I look at some important details related to that deal. On Tuesday, new Steelers OC Arthur Smith spoke to the media with the team's mandatory minicamp now underway, so Alex and I discuss several things that he had to say. We also discuss what all several other Steelers coaches and players had to say on Tuesday and that includes us going over what special teams coordinator Danny Smith had to say concerning the NFL's new kickoff rule. Some really positive comments about Steelers WR Calvin Austin III came out on Tuesday so Alex and I spend time discussing that topic. The Steelers have a new look to their scouting department, so Alex makes sure to recap the recent comings and goings in that section of the organization. Several other minor topics not noted are also discussed in this 92-minute episode and we end it by answering a few emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Teryl Austin is supposed to come back. The offensive coordinator is the main dish on the plate to find out. Will the Pirates shop Chapman? Would you trade T.J. Watt for multiple draft picks? Pirates over/under win total. Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette joined the show. With the exception of three teams, everyone in the ACC is fighting for where they will land either in the NCAA Tournament or NIT. Pitt only has one legit win (Duke) and aren't playing any ranked teams again. Pitt has to be near perfect to make the tourney. They need to go 11-1 to have a realistic chance. Pitt had answers for every Duke punch. The ACC is not that good and hasn't been for a few years. It's top heavy with North Carolina and Duke.
In his weekly YouTube appearance, Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise joins host Adam Bittner to analyze headlines from Steelers coach Mike Tomlin's end-of-season news conference. Will Tomlin truly make Kenny Pickett compete to be the starting quarterback in 2024? Or will it realistically be his job to lose during the season? Will the offensive coordinator hire truly come from the outside? Or will the new coordinator have some connection to the Steelers or local colleges like Pitt and Penn State? Our duo tackles those questions and also offseason topics to watch identified by Post-Gazette Steelers insider Brian Batko. Will defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and special teams coordinator Danny Smith return? Will players entering contract years including Najee Harris, Pat Freiermuth, James Daniels and Diontae Johnson get new deals? Would the team be better off with Cam Heyward back? Or spending his large cap hit on multiple other players to fill needs? And should veterans like Patrick Peterson and Minkah Fitzpatrick be trade candidates in hopes of gaining NFL draft capital?

November 17, 2023 - Season 14, Episode 50 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Friday morning show, Alex and I get right to talking about the Thursday night AFC North game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Baltimore Ravens in addition to the significant injuries that happened during that contest with QB Joe Burrow and TE Mark Andrews leading that list. The Pittsburgh Steelers will play the Cleveland Browns on the road on Sunday, so Alex and I address the current injury situations of both teams heading into Friday. We talk about what the Steelers' Friday injury report might look like and how Pittsburgh might handle their inside linebacker and safety situations on Sunday in Cleveland against the Browns. The Steelers coordinators, Matt Canada, Teryl Austin, and Danny Smith, all talked to the media on Thursday and on the heels of those pressers, Alex and I review the main talking points to come out of all of them. In the middle of this Friday show, Alex and I are once again joined by Scott Petrak, who covers the Browns for The Chronicle-Telegram and The Medina Gazette. We spend 30 minutes with Scott talking about the Browns quarterback situation, both currently and past the 2023 season, as well as previewing the Sunday Week 11 game in Cleveland.
