In this empowering episode of Dem Vinyl Boyz, we drop the needle on Janet Jackson’s breakthrough album Control—the 1986 release that redefined her career and reshaped the sound of pop and R&B. With this record, Janet stepped out from her famous family’s shadow and into full creative ownership, delivering a bold, confident statement of independence, strength, and style. Control features genre-defining hits like "What Have You Done for Me Lately," "Nasty," "Control," and "When I Think of You", each track bursting with the sharp production of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and Janet’s fearless, fresh vocal delivery. The album blends funk, synth-pop, and R&B with assertive lyrics that speak to self-empowerment, personal growth, and taking the reins of your own life. In this episode, we explore the cultural and musical impact of Control, how it launched Janet Jackson into superstardom, and why it's considered one of the most influential albums of the 1980s. From its fashion to its feminism, this record didn’t just change the game—it set the rules. Join Dem Vinyl Boyz as we celebrate Control, the album that gave Janet her voice, gave pop music a new edge, and gave fans a fierce and fearless icon.

Be careful that you do not forget the Lord, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery. — Deuteronomy 6:12 On a weekday morning, Sara drove to the grocery store a few miles from her home. She was feeling good and listening to a Christian music station on the radio. She began to sing when one of her favorite songs came on: “When I Think about the Lord.” Suddenly tears began rolling down her cheeks, and she pulled the car over to the roadside. Sara was rejoicing with tears of joy as she remembered what God had done in her life. Sara was a growing follower of Jesus, but at that time she had begun going out again with old friends who were still living in the fast lane. She had not been careful in remembering what God had done for her. God had brought her out of a lifestyle she did not want to return to. The song on the radio that day reminded Sara that God had turned her life around. He had freed Sara from her old life of sin. Sara's new life was essential to her and her family. She was filled with the Spirit, and God had a plan for her life. She wanted to stay focused and continue taking online courses to earn a bachelor's degree and serve God with her life. A favorite song, Bible passage, or spiritual encounter can help us get back on track when we remember our deliverance from bondage to freedom in the Lord our God, who saves us through his Son, Jesus Christ. Sovereign God, thank you for setting me free in Jesus. Help me to share the hope of life in you with people who are trapped in sin and need the freedom you offer. In Jesus, Amen.
They said it couldn't last, so we had to prove them wrong... by making an episode of Strong Songs all about Janet Jackson, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis. It's time to go back to the late 80s, when New Jack Swing was all the rage and a budding superstar named Janet sat down with a pair of Minneapolis producers named Jimmy and Terry to produce some of the most groundbreaking pop music of the decade. This episode takes a look at "Love Will Never Do (Without You)," one of the most complex of their collaborations, and a tune with as many stylistic left-turns as it has orchestra hits.Written by: James Harris III and Terry LewisProduced by: Janet Jackson, Jam & LewisAlbum: Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814, 1989Listen/Buy: Apple Music | Amazon | SpotifyFEATURED/DISCUSSED:“Casey Kasem's American Top 40 intro from the 1980s, via YouTube“Kiss” by Prince from Parade, 1986“Walking on Broken Glass” by Annie Lennox from Diva, 1992“Like a Prayer” by Madonna from Like a Prayer, 1989“Control,” “Nasty,” and “When I Think of You” by Janet Jackson/Jam & Lewis from Control, 1986"Rhythm Nation" and "Miss You Much" from Rhythm Nation 1814, 1989Emu SP-1200 Beatmaking demonstration by Chief Rugged on YouTubeDiscussion of New Jack Swing, which you can learn more about here“Poison” by Bel Biv DeVoe from Poison, 1990“Alice, I Want You Just For Me” by Full Force, produced by Teddy Riley on Full Force, 1985Estelle Caswell's Vox Earworm video about the Orchestra Hit“The Chain” by Fleetwood Mac from Rumors, 1977OUTRO SOLOIST: Dan NervoThis episode's outro soloist is the fantastic Dan Nervo. It's here, it's here, just in time for all your holiday weekend travel plans: the week 5 breakdown of all the best (and worst) TV Christmas movies. Netflix crushed it again with another childhood favorite, Freddie Prinze Jr in Christmas with You, and Hallmark hit Christmas gold with Three Wise Men and a Baby (38:40) and Inventing the Christmas Prince. Their Sunday movie, When I Think of Christmas though left a lot to be desired while HMM did their job in making me cry with Long Lost Christmas, but for me there was just something missing in it. Lifetime continued it's disappointing Thursday movies with Sweet Navidad, and had a bizarrely lackluster turnout of a Sweet Magnolias reunion of Brooke Elliot and Brandon Quinn in A Country Christmas Harmony, but showed up with Santa Bootcamp, and finished okay with A Show-Stopping Christmas. UpTV only had two this week, The Holiday Swap was a Holiday Flop, but Christmas Lucky Charm was a Christmas version of Good Luck Chuck that I loved. That leaves GAC Family. Yet another week of predictable and safe plots and more Christmas tree farms in danger. Steer clear. 1927 are an Australian pop rock band formed in 1987 with James Barton on drums, Bill Frost on bass guitar, his brother Garry Frost on guitar and keyboards, and Eric Weideman on vocals, guitar and keyboards. They were popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s with their major hit songs "That's When I Think of You", "If I Could", "Compulsory Hero" and "Tell Me a Story". Their multi-platinum number-one album, ...ish (1988) was followed by The Other Side (1990). At the ARIA Music Awards of 1989 they won two categories: Breakthrough Artist – Album for ...ish and Breakthrough Artist – Single for "That's When I Think of You". At the 1990 ceremony they won Best Video for "Compulsory Hero", which was directed by Geoff Barter. In 1992 the group released a third studio album, 1927, which reached the top 40; but they disbanded the following year. Weideman reformed 1927 in 2009 with a new line-up.

“When I think of death, and of late the idea has come with alarming frequency, I seem at peace with the idea that a day will dawn when I no longer be among those living in this valley of strange humors. I can accept the idea of my own demise, but I am unable to accept the death of anyone else. I find it impossible to let a friend or relative go into that country to no return. Disbelief becomes my close companion, and anger follows in its wake. 54th Show News:Well, we meet again folks, here for another slice of joy I call The Good man's Radio Show. Hope I find you all well and eager for a dose of the aural pleasure to come. Was thinking about the idea of having a feature band on the shows, is this an idea that would appeal? And if it appeals, who would we have? Just wanted to see if it was worth adding anything to the show. I was thinking a while back of doing ‘Guess the Intro' as well, as I have used a different intro theme for every show I have done, and I thought it would be a bit of fun. Unfortunately, though, with today's technology and Apps it's all to easy to cheat so I guess it wouldn't be worth it. Once again, the show is the usual assortment of eclectic styles to keep it fresh. I do try not to focus on too much Rock/Ska/Soul/Pop etc the downside could be that a lot of what I play doesn't attract everybody but hey you can't please everybody all the time, and I hope it may make you want to check out variations of the theme in the spirit of discovery. Well, I hope you enjoy the show as much as I have doing it for you. Bee back for the next one real soon. 1. The Bummer – Lincoln St. Exit2. Stop! – Burgundy Runn3. Movin' Around – The Evil Eyes4. SUMMARY:Our guests on this episode of Songcraft are Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, best known for co-writing and producing nearly every Janet Jackson hit. They've worked with a who's who of artists, earning them 26 Billboard #1 R&B hits, 16 Billboard #1 pop hits, more Producer of the Year Grammy nominations than anyone in history, and a place in the Songwriters Hall of Fame. We'll chat with them about their varied career, and their new first-ever album under their own names, entitled Volume One. PART ONE:Fan mail and the hardest job in the world.PART TWO:Scott and Paul chat about the idea of the celebrity producer, and how Jam & Lewis might have set a new mold. PART THREE:Our in-depth interview with Jimmy Jam & Terry LewisABOUT JAM & LEWISWith 26 Billboard #1 R&B hits and 16 Billboard #1 pop hits to their credit, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis are perhaps the most influential and successful songwriting and production duo in modern music history. With a total of 41 Top 10 hits in the US, Jimmy and Terry were named ASCAP Songwriters of the Year a record-breaking nine times. They are perhaps best known for their work with Janet Jackson, beginning with the Control album, which earned the duo a Grammy for Producer of the Year. Between 1986 and 1994 they scored thirteen #1 songs with Janet on either the R&B or pop chart, including “What Have You Done For Me Lately,” “Nasty,” “When I Think of You,” “Control,” “Let's Wait Awhile,” “Miss You Much,” “Rhythm Nation,” “Escapade” “Love Will Never Do (Without You),” “The Best Things in Life Are Free,” “That's the Way Love Goes,” “Any Time, Any Place,” and “Again,” which earned Jimmy, Terry, and Janet an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song. Jimmy and Terry got their start as musicians with Morris Day and the Time, the Prince-produced band whose biggest hit was the Jam and Lewis-penned “Jerk Out.” They made the transition to a successful songwriting and production team working with the S.O.S. band, which landed a #2 R&B hit with “Just Be Good to Me.” From there, they made their mark on pop and R&B hits for decades to come. In addition to their work with Jackson, the duo wrote and produced the #1 pop singles “Human” by Human League, “Romantic” by Karyn White, “Thank God I Found You” by Mariah Carey, and the Boyz II Men singles “On Bended Knee” and “4 Seasons of Loneliness.” Additional R&B chart toppers include “Encore” by Cheryl Lynn, “Fake” by Alexander O'Neal, “Everything I Miss at Home” by Cherelle, “Sensitivity” by Ralph Tresvant, and the Johnny Gill singles “Rub You the Right Way” and “Wrap My Body Tight.” Other highlights from their catalog include New Edition's “If It Isn't Love” and “I'm Still in Love With You,” “No More Drama” by Mary J. Blige, Robert Palmer's hit pop cover of their Cherelle single “I Didn't Mean to Turn You On,” and recordings by Gladys Knight & The Pips, Barry White, Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie, Usher, Spice Girls, Aretha Franklin, Charlie Wilson, Ledisi, Sting, Elton John, Beyonce, Rihanna, Rod Stewart, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Gwen Stefani, Willie Nelson, and many others.Always versatile, the duo has earned Grammy awards for Best R&B Album for Chaka Kahn's Funk This, Best Gospel Song for Yolanda Adams' “Be Blessed,” and Best Dance Recording for Janet Jackson's #1 pop and R&B hit “All For You.” Additional Jackson hits that were written and produced with Jam and Lewis include the Janet and Michael Jackson hit “Scream” and the #1 singles “Together Again,” “I Get Lonely,” “Doesn't Really Matter,” and the Nelly duet “Call On Me.”In total the team has earned over 100 gold, platinum, multi-platinum and diamond album certifications from the RIAA, have received more Producer of the Year Grammy nominations than anyone in history, earned the NAACP Lifetime Achievement Award, and were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. They've recently released their first album under their own names, which is called Volume One.

Be still and know that I am love. I thought about calling this one, "When I Think of Me, I Touch Myself," but I thought otherwise. I talk about falling in love with the state of my wish fulfilled often. Today, I tell you about the day I fell madly in love with my body, even with all the wrinkly, achy, and jiggly bits.

————————作者 | 凯文·普鲁弗诵读 | NJ青木配乐 | When I Think of You作曲 | Danny Wright封面 | 公众号 | 晚安诗集fm(可投稿)

It is amazing how much great music comes out of the quiet city of Cleveland, Ohio. The town on the North Coast has been the home of many memorable vocalists. Add to that list singer-keyboardist Wade C. Long, who grew up in Northeast Ohio and is now based in L.A.The former church musician has made a career as a producer for several artists and groups over the years, and in 2014 he released his debut EP, Love Is. After the soul-stirring "Rise" in 2018, Wade had the pleasure of co-writing and co-producing the single "When I Think of You" for his cousin and Grammy Award winner Joe Little III, from R&B legends The Rude Boys. Wade is now coming back with his long-awaited debut LP Nostalgia. Post Animal’s Jake Hirshland gives Kyle Meredith a call to discuss Forward Motion Godyssey. The two dig into the art and importance of mystery, breaking sonic boundaries, allowing themselves to take on multiple genres, and writing with a shared mind. The record was recorded in Big Sky, Montana, and while Hirschland says there was mystical behavior in the wildlife, the ghosts that haunted 2018's When I Think of You in a Castle didn't follow them. Hirshland also speaks about how house music inspired the lead single "Safe Or Not" and previews their upcoming tour with Cage the Elephant. As a financial nut, I will go into Bond investing. When I Think of bonds I think of borrowing money and getting paid until the money is paid back. Now the difference is that it for a set period like a cd, they can pay it off anytime, you can sale it early for a gain or loss, and it can be affected by what the stock market is doing. Now saying all that it sounds complicated and to some it is . just remember the payment is mad usually monthly and can be used for cash flow. I leave the bones to the experts or I invest in a bond fund but most of the time I avoid then like the plague. But It is an investment and to be well rounded you need to know a little about it. All Ideas are not created equally, so all solutions are not created equally. Today its time to open your mind and take what is meant for you, and leave the rest for the person it's meant for. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/willie-woods/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/willie-woods/support

Mr. Chamberlain asked if I would like to come to Decatur and work for the Staley Company. [George Chamberlain was general superintendent of the A. E. Staley Company, a food starch company of Decatur, Illinois. In 1919, the company's Fellowship Club had formed a football team. It had done well against other local teams, but Mr. Staley wanted to build it into a team that could compete successfully with the best semi-professional and industrial teams in the country.” - George Halas, in his book Halas by Halas. 46. The franchise was founded in Decatur, Illinois, on September 17, 1920 and moved to Chicago in 1921. It is one of only two remaining franchises from the NFL's founding in 1920, along with the Arizona Cardinals, which was originally also in Chicago. Originally named the Decatur Staleys, the company hired George Halas, a Chicago native, and Edward "Dutch" Sternaman in 1920 to run the team. The 1920 Decatur Staleys season was their inaugural regular season completed in the newly formed American Professional Football Association (later renamed the National Football League (NFL) in 1922). The team relocated to Chicago in 1921, where the club was renamed the Chicago Staleys. Under an agreement reached by Halas and Sternaman with Staley, Halas purchased the rights to the club from Staley for $100 (~$1,400 in 2019). In 1922, Halas changed the team name from the Staleys to the Bears. The team moved into Wrigley Field, which was home to the Chicago Cubs baseball franchise and, as with several early NFL franchises, the Bears derived their nickname from their city's baseball team. Halas liked the bright orange-and-blue colors of his alma mater, the University of Illinois, and the Bears adopted those colors as their own. 47. The 1985 Bears were simply the greatest team ever, and here's why. The collection of players Chicago put together not just on defense, but also offense, made them one of the most talented teams ever assembled. The Bears steam-rolled their way through the regular season with a 15-1 record. In Super Bowl XX, they destroyed the Pats 46-10, with the only 10 points they would give up in the entire playoffs. At the time, the 36-point win was the largest in Super Bowl history. Chicago finished with an 18-1 overall record and allowed only five of the teams they faced that year to score more than 10 points in a game. They had the greatest running back in NFL history, Walter Payton. They had the best middle linebacker in NFL history, Mike Singletary. And they even had the 1985 Coach of the Year, Mike Ditka. But, most importantly, they had the greatest team in the history of the NFL. (Including the “Punkie” QB and the Fridge!) They were the 1985 Chicago Bears. R.I.P. Sweetness. Although you wore No. 34 on the field, you will always be No. 1 in Bears fans' hearts! - MATT REAGAN [https://bleacherreport.com/articles/136752-1985-chicago-bears-the-greatest-team-ever] 48. Featured Artist: Janet Damita Jo Jackson (@ 20 yrs. old): a.k.a, Ms. Jackson if you’re Nasty. 81. One of the most awarded artists in the world, her career longevity, hit records and trail of achievements reflect her influence in shaping and redefining the scope of popular music. In her more than four decades of music career that has spanned over eleven studio albums and seven world tours, Jackson has sold more than 100 million records with four of her albums being included in Rolling Stone's ‘500 Greatest Albums’ and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's ‘Definitive 200’ list. She was a fixture on MTV and a major role model for young artist. 82. Childhood and career: Born and raised in Gary, Indiana, she was the youngest of the ten children. With the entire family into the entertainment business, it was only natural for Janet Jackson to follow suit. She recorded herself in the studio and by the age of seven, had performed at the Las Vegas Strip at MGM Casino. In 1976, Jackson began acting in the variety show ‘The Jacksons’. The following year, she grabbed a main role as Penny Gordon Woods in the sitcom ‘Good Times’. This was followed by a role in ‘A New Kind of Family’ and a recurring role in ‘Different Strokes’. At the age of 16, Jackson received a contract with A&M Records. Under the label, she released her debut album ‘Janet Jackson’ in 1982. The album peaked at number 63 on the Billboard 200, and number six on the publication’s R&B albums chart. In 1984, Jackson released her second album ‘Dream Street’. The album was moderately successful, peaking at 147 on the Billboard 200, and number 19 on the R&B albums chart. Its lead single ‘Don’t Stand a Chance’ peaked at number nine on Billboard’s R&B singles chart. Continuous tiffs with her father led Jackson to come out from under his shell. She then teamed with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis to come up with her third album ‘Control’ in 1986 which became a major hit. The album peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 and was certified five times platinum by the RIAA, selling over ten million copies worldwide. 83. ‘Control’ gave Jackson her first breakthrough success. It not just spawned top five singles but also gave her, her first number one hit on the Hot 100. The album went on to receive six Billboard Awards, including Top Pop Singles Artist and three Grammy nominations. It also won four American Music Awards from twelve nominations, the highest ever till date. ‘Control’ gained crossover pop appeal, giving Jackson her own identity, away from her clan. Following the stupendous success of ‘Control’, Jackson was bounded by the pressure to come up with its sequel. However, she refrained from bowing down to the pressure and instead came up with her fourth album ‘Rhythm Nation 1814’ that dealt with a socially conscious theme. 84. Open Comments: 85. Question 1: Nipple Gate - In a 2006 interview with MTV, Justin Timberlake admitted that Jackson suffered more in wake of the controversy. “If you consider it 50-50, then I probably got 10 percent of the blame,” Timberlake told MTV’s John Norris in a 2006 interview. “I think America is harsher on women. I think America is unfairly harsh on ethnic people.” He also said that he could have “handled [the aftermath] better.” - Why did she get crushed? 86. Question 2: TMZ 6/23/2019 - Janet Jackson has broken her silence amid new allegations against her brother, Michael Jackson, in "Leaving Neverland" -- and her message is simple ... his rep will be just fine. Janet says, "I love it when I see kids emulating him, when adults still listen to his music. It just lets you know the impact that my family has had on the world." She added, "I hope I'm not sounding arrogant in any way -- I'm just stating what it is. It's really all God's doing, and I'm just thankful for that." She's also defended him in the past, specifically when Jordy Chandler accused Michael of sexual abuse in '93. At the time, Janet called it a money grab. – Denial or Business? 87. Featured Artist: Anita Denise Baker (@ 28 yrs. old): a.k.a., 'The Songstress'. Singer and songwriter. 88. Childhood & Early Life: Born in Toledo, Ohio. She was abandoned by her parents at the age of two and was raised by a foster family in Detroit, Michigan. Her foster parents passed away when she was only 12 and her foster sister took care of her upbringing after the death of her foster parents. Baker had an interest in music from an early age and started singing R & B in nightclubs in Detroit by the time she was 16. It was after one of those performances that funk band leader David Washington of ‘Chapter 8’ identified her and asked her to go to go for an audition in order to join the band. 89. Career: Baker became a member of the band ‘Chapter 8’ in 1975 (@ 17 yrs. old) and following a string of performances, the band was handed a deal by Ariola Records in 1979. The group’s first album ‘Chapter 8’ was released in 1979 and featured the singles "Ready for Your Love," a duet between Baker and bandmate Gerald Lyles, and the Baker-led "I Just Want to Be Your Girl." In 1979, Ariola Records was taken over by Arista Records and Chapter 8 lost their contract as Arista Records was of the view that Baker was not fit to be the group’s lead singer. Baker went back to Detroit and worked as a waitress and a receptionist for a law firm. In 1983 (@ 25yrs old), she released her debut solo album, 'The Songstress', under the Beverly Glen label. The album was a popular one and many of the songs made it to the music charts. Following the release of the album she had a protracted legal battle with the Beverly Glen label over payment of royalties and breach of contract issues. She won the case against the label in 1985, signed with Elektra Records label, and came out with her second album 'Rapture' in 1986. The album became a big hit, with over eight million copies sold worldwide and led to ‘The Rapture Tour’. 90. Open Comments: 91. Question: Parade Magazine 9/12/19 - Short hair, don’t care! Tamron Hall has been rocking a short ‘do for over 20 years—and the TV personality, 48, revealed on her new self-titled daytime talk show that she decided to first go for the chop because of an old flame. “I cut my hair when I was 18 years old because my boyfriend at the time had a crush on Anita Baker, and I had a bigger crush on him than he did on me apparently,” she shared. So, Hall modeled her hair after the “Sweet Love” singer, who has been credited as one of the pioneers of the pixie haircut. – Do you like the pixie on women? 92. Movie Scene: She’s Gotta Have It 93. A 1986 American black-and-white comedy-drama film written, edited and directed by Spike Lee. Filmed on a small budget and Lee's first feature-length film, it earned positive reviews and launched Lee's career. The plot concerns a young woman (Johns) who is seeing three men, and the feelings this arrangement provokes. Nola idealizes the freedom to have multiple sex partners that men have typically enjoyed, saying “A woman can be a sexual being, doesn’t have to belong to a man, and perhaps shouldn’t even wish for such a thing.” Nola's voice has been described as the most revolutionary element in the film, a representation of the struggle African American women faced in society at the time. 94. Review: By Esi Edugyan, he Guardian 12/2017 - Perhaps the most daring aspect of ‘She’s Gotta Have It’ was not its portrayal of sexuality but simply its willingness to view black people just as people. The film never highlights their racial otherness, exploring instead the whole messy business of their experiences. The black experience – to the extent such a thing even exists – is not only slavery and racism and economic disparity and brutality and the endless ongoing struggle, though it is all these things certainly. It is also sex and love and boredom and dreaming and joy. 95. Question: Are promiscuous black women now acceptable? 96. TV Scene 97. The series was adapted from a play written in 1978 by Christine Houston about the lives of women in a predominantly black apartment building. The show was created as a starring vehicle for Marla Gibbs, who had become famous as Florence Johnston, the sassy maid on The Jeffersons, and had starred in Houston's play in Los Angeles. This role was similar in nature. 101. “227” followed the lives of Mary Jenkins (Marla Gibbs), a nosy, tart-tongued, but loving housewife. Her husband, Lester (Hal Williams), had his own construction company, and their daughter, Brenda (Regina King), was boy-crazy yet smart and studious, in her first television acting role. Also cast in 227 was Sandra Clark (Jackée Harry), Mary's young neighbor who constantly bickered back and forth with her about their respective views on life. Except for The Cosby Show and A Different World, “227” achieved higher ratings than other sitcoms airing at the time with a predominantly African American cast during the first two seasons. Awards: Winner of 1987 Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series Jackée Harry. 102. Open Comments: 103. Featured Character: Sandra's style was so great because it's the quintessential 1980's look of "grown and sexy". Sandra showed us Black women could be bold, fierce, fabulous, and fashionistas and rock any outfit with enough confidence to stop traffic. From interview with Lee Bailey’s Electronic Urban Report, “I was a diva, full and blown up. In fact, I was the ‘It’ girl. Oh yeah, I was that girl. I dressed well, had a lot of money. I don’t know how many cars. You know, it was the 80s, it was not a blur, but it flew so fast.” Fortunately, Harry had a great vehicle to shine in “227,” which struck a chord with its relatable characters. Harry’s hard work obviously paid off with Sandra, who became a certified hit with viewers. It’s a given that Harry put her stamp on the character, but she credits a couple of entertainment icons for helping to lay the groundwork for her and other women to be funny and sexy without missing a beat. Especially when it came to Sandra. “Just funny. Funny. And the clothes she wore, scandalous. Funny lines. Sexy, fancy. People wanted that and I didn’t know that, then,” Harry said about what made her beloved “227” character so endearing. “I grew up watching a lot of TV and I had seen women like that on TV… a lot of different women like Mae West and Lucille Ball. That was my vision of funny. Pretty, but still funny and you can get away with a lot more. Which is still true today.” 104. Open Comments: 105. Question: Ever met a real-life “Jackee”? 106. Everything feels like it is dismantling; falling apart. Parts of me feel that they are disintegrating, lost, shattered, untethered. I don't know who I am anymore. Why do I exist and what am I here for? What is the meaning of life - of everything? I don't know why I feel sad and fearful. Reality feels like it is blowing apart. These are some of the thoughts and feelings I've had in the last few weeks as I've been on a spiritual roller coaster. At times I have felt I have been in spiritual or existential crisis, and other times it's been more like spiritual flu. Luckily, I am aware that these are just parts of me and more grounded inner parts of me are able to stay calm. The soul is speaking or screaming loudly, ready to share its story and lesson for us when we have intense emotional and physical symptoms. The chance to experience profound healing and expansion, energy and a return to our truth is waiting to be reclaimed within an existential and spiritual crisis. But it can be terrifying and overwhelming! Especially if you're not sure what's happening. Some of the feelings one can have related to archetypal, ancestral, past life, or collective unconscious material that may have no words to describe. In this week's episode of the Embody Podcast, I share my personal and present experience of spiritual flu and crisis, what has helped me through it, and what might be helpful if you or someone you know is experiencing emotional intensity, physical symptoms/illness, or other experiences that may be hard to give a name or find the cause of. Enjoy! ~Candice Links, Article, and Resources All Show Notes for This Episode

David Morales Legacy Volume 4 is a musical journey that defies time. Morales' '90s remix of Janet Jackson's '80s hit "When I Think of You," blends seamlessly with his rework of the '70s classic "Love Thang" by First Choice. Add in '90s essentials like Jody Watley's "I'm the One You Need" and Lisa Fischer's "Save Me," and you have a collection that showcases Morales' skill in reimagining dance music across decades. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j86RmuzHWh8 But let's not forget about Morales' talent for crossing genres and boundaries, a skill set further exemplified in remixes like Donna Summer's 'Melody of Love (Classic Club Mix)' and Mariah Carey's 'Dreamlover (Def Club Mix).' These tunes don't just get people moving on the dance floor; they evoke a particular period of musical evolution. It's important to note that Morales wasn't just redefining the house genre; he was crafting a nuanced audio landscape that found its feet in a range of musical influences. This point becomes crystal clear with Morales' take on Celine Dion's 'Loved Me Back to Life,' where he elegantly melds pop sensibilities with club-ready beats, creating a cohesive musical experience that stands out in its own right. So here's to David Morales, a trailblazer whose legacy can be felt every time his remixes flood the dance floors or accompany our most cherished moments. Until the next time...ENJOY! Host, Laura Theodore, the Jazzy Vegetarian, chats with Chart Topping Singer/Songwriter Victoria Shaw, whose songs have been staples on the charts since the early 90s. We'll talk about her solo CD, songwriting career and chart topping music. I'll share some great tummy warming, cold-weather recipes along with my short list of "Top Winter Super Foods!" Victoria Shaw's #1 compositions include Garth Brooks' "The River" and "She’s Every Woman," Ricky Martin's “So’lo Quiero Amrte,” and Jim Brickman's "Sending You A Little Christmas." Ms. Shaw co-produced Lady Antebellum’s self-titled debut CD release for Capitol Records. She has had four of her songs nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award and won the Emmy with "This is Our Moment,” co-written with Earl Rose and Olivia Newton-John, and featured on the daytime drama, "As the World Turns.” She was awarded her second Emmy for the song, "When I Think of You," which was featured on the long-running daytime drama, "One Live to Live." Other hits include the Ricky Martin/Christina Aguilera duet, "Nobody Wants To Be Lonely” and the Garth Brooks/Trisha Yearwood duet "Where Your Road Leads." Victoria is passionately involved with many charities, including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She wrote and executive-produced the song, "One Heart at a Time," featuring the vocals of Garth Brooks, Olivia Newton-John, Billy Dean, Michael McDonald, Neal McCoy, Faith Hill and Bryan White and donated all of her writer/publisher proceeds to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Victoria has also performed throughout the world, including opening for Garth Brooks at his legendary concert in Central Park. More: http://www.victoriashaw.com/
