Hilarious? Check. Amazing special effects? Check. An American Werewolf in London is a horror classic that has a lot going for it and a lot to talk about beyond its obvious accolades. Join Juliet and Theresa as they discuss how this movie serves as an allegory for Jewish-American identity abroad, what actually makes a movie a horror comedy and whether Alex committed some serious ethics violations. We're so excited we're howling at the moon because we watched An American Werewolf in London and The Howling! We talk through one of Peter's all time favourite films - the 1981 John Landis horror comedy An American Werewolf in London. We go through many bits of behind the scenes trivia about the making of the movie, as well as discussing the characters, story, music, and absolutely stunning special effects by Rick Baker. Peter gets a bit self indulgent because he was born as it was being filmed and Phil tells some tales of his own childhood experiences in the North of England that were quite similar to things that happen in the film! Never fear—we will be back in February with lots of great new stuff planned for the year to come. After two years on non-stop podcasting, we wanted to give ourselves a month to replenish. Show Notes In episode 50 (HELLO, major podcasting milestone!) we are talking with Max Booth III. He is the o-founder and Editor-in-Chief of Perpetual Motion Machine and the managing Editor of Dark Moon Digest. He's also the co-host of Castle Rock Radio (A Stephen King Podcast) and the host of the horror comedy podcast Ghoulish. He's written several books, including Carnivorous Lunar Activities from Fangoria and the forthcoming Touch the Night from Cemetery Dance. Max writes online for LitReactor and CrimeReads and also reviews books for the San Antonio Current. It was a delight to welcome Max to the show. He shared with us about his unconventional childhood and his unnerving connection to hotels. We also spoke a lot of his various writing and editing projects and learned his thought-provoking thoughts on "making it." We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did. Find Max: Website
This week, we had a great time talking with Max Booth III, who has written Carnivorous Lunar Activities, The Nightly Disease, How to Successfully Kidnap Strangers to just name some of his books. In addition to writing, Max also runs Perpetual Motion Machine Publishing and Dark Moon Digest with his partner Lori Michelle and hosts two podcasts, Castle Rock Radio and Ghoulish. Our conversation with Max was full of laughs and occasionally took a turn for the surreal. We talked to Max about his writing inspirations, how he teamed up with Fangoria for Carnivorous Lunar Activities, the origin story of PMMP, his upcoming Cemetery Dance novel Touch The Night, and a host of other topics. And yes, skunks AND Dick Spiders both make an appearance. This was an amazing conversation and one of the most fun episodes we've recorded. This is one episode you don't want to miss, trust me. Look! It's Max! And he has blue hair like Milhouse. This is the last episode of season 1 and it begins a season of dramatic change for We Shot Mr. Burns. First, you may have noticed our 90s soft rock new podcast image. We're all yellow, yes, but the colors make me feel like I'm eight years old eating at a Hot Dog on a Stick at the mall marveling at all the teenagers buying rap CDs at Sam Goody. Maybe this cover image will get better someday. Who knows! It's far from cromulent. Listen to Some Enchanted Evening here.Buy Volume 2 of the Cockroach Conservatory here. Max Booth III, frequent co-host, will no longer be overlooked nor will he be pointed out every time he's on the show because, neighborinos, he is an equal co-host and a forever-friend.
