Following an early Spring hiatus, we're pleased to bring the Departures podcast back with a very special guest, the Canadian author and Adjunct Fellow at the Manhattan Institute Eric Kaufmann. Eric joins Robert Amsterdam to discuss his interesting new book "Taboo: How Making Race Sacred Produced a Cultural Revolution." Kaufmann argues that the anti-racism taboo established in the mid-1960s became the "Big Bang of our moral universe," giving immense power to those who wield it. The conversation explores how progressive moral foundations focused solely on equality and care have created policy failures, how expanding definitions of racism have failed to protect minorities but instead serve to silence debate, and why self-censorship today exceeds that of the McCarthy era. Kaufmann's work examines the implications of these cultural shifts on institutions, free speech, and political discourse while offering thoughts on potential solutions, including recent American political developments.

About Rebecca Macieira-Kaufmann:Rebecca Macieira-Kaufmann, a former Fortune 50 Global Executive, has a proven track record in business turnarounds, scaling ventures, and global expansion. Most notably, she led Citibank California out of a headline-making crisis in 2008, launching a decade-long career at Citigroup. As the Founding Member of RMK Group, she advises CEOs on leadership and strategic HR. Co-author of FitCEO: Be The Leader of Your Life, her book has sold thousands worldwide. Recognized for her impact, she was named one of the Bay Area's 100 Most Influential Women in Business for twelve years, earning the title of Forever Influential Woman. In this episode, Dean Newlund and Rebecca Macieira-Kaufmann discuss:Leadership and personal well-beingThe impact of small habits on health and successThe role of social connections in longevity and happinessManaging stress and maintaining a positive mindsetCultural influences on health and lifestyle choices Key Takeaways:Incorporating small, intentional habits like taking the stairs, walking during phone calls, or parking farther away can gradually build a healthier lifestyle without overwhelming effort.Meaningful social connections, whether through lifelong friendships or daily micro-interactions, have been shown to be more crucial to long-term health and happiness than even diet or exercise.Leaders who actively practice gratitude, maintain a sense of humor, and seek moments of awe can better manage stress, stay motivated, and create a positive influence on those around them.Maintaining a consistently optimistic and forward-thinking mindset has been linked to greater longevity and resilience, sometimes even outweighing the negative effects of poor health habits like smoking. "I have managed a lot of teams through crises... finding all the good that already exists and then leveraging that. So building muscle where there is muscle, versus trying to build something from scratch.” — Rebecca Macieira-Kaufmann Connect with Rebecca Macieira-Kaufmann: Website: https://rmkgroupllc.com/Book: FitCEO: Be the Leader of Your Life: https://www.amazon.com/FitCEO-Be-Leader-Your-Life/dp/1774581426LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/r-m-k/ See Dean's TedTalk “Why Business Needs Intuition” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEq9IYvgV7I Connect with Dean:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgqRK8GC8jBIFYPmECUCMkwWebsite: https://www.mfileadership.com/The Mission Statement E-Newsletter: https://www.mfileadership.com/blog/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/deannewlund/X (Twitter): https://twitter.com/deannewlundFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/MissionFacilitators/Email: dean.newlund@mfileadership.comPhone: 1-800-926-7370 Show notes by Podcastologist: Hanz Jimuel AlvarezAudio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions.

Professor Eric Kaufmann discuss the evolution and future of woke, noting its peak and potential resurgence. It was not in fact ended by the reelection of Donald Trump, he argues, and in this interview explains why. Kaufmann argues that woke-ism, characterised by the sacralisation of marginalised groups, has seen a decline in corporate and educational practices but remains strong among younger generations. Will there be new versions of BLM, MeToo, Antifa as a reaction to Trump's second term? Are we already seeing it in response to Elon Musk, with the targeting of Tesla?Eric and Winston explore the concept of national identity in the era of “diversity is our greatest strength”. What is the truth about ethnonationaolsm? Is former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak English? They also explore the impact of immigration on social cohesion, and national identity. He notes that cultural debates, such as those over free speech and diversity, are a secondary response to populism. And that populism is a response to mass migration, Islam, LGBT and feminist issues.Eric Peter Kaufmann is a Canadian professor of politics at the University of Buckingham. NAD is all the rage. Its such a crucial molecule in our body that declines with age. You're probably not sure if you should be taking NAD or a precursor like NMN or NR, and if so, how – do we take supplements, IVs, injectables…? But you may have also heard of the dangerous pathways that some of these molecules take us down that increases the risk for cancer. So is there a better way? Yes! Molecular biologist Dr. Sandra Kaufmann, who is completely unbiased, clears the confusion and helps us navigate this world of NAD. It gets a little geeky, so break out your pen and paper, and keep the speed on 1x. We cover: - NAD basics - What is NAD vs NAD+ vs NAD- minus - Different categories of what NAD does - How NAD controls circadian rhythms - Is fatigue due to NAD or something else? - Is it better to optimize our ovaries with NAD or HRT? - If, how and when to take NAD, NMN, NR and which one is best? - The best time to take NAD or its precursors - When is the only time to do an NAD infusion - What happens to our DNA when NAD is low - How NAD can be made from scratch in the body - The dangers of NAD and its precursors that may triggering more inflammation - Can you test NAD levels? - Best way to increase NAD levels naturally - The cheapest way to increase NAD levels - What Dr. Sandra does personally for her NAD Dr. Sandra Kaufmann started her career in the field of cellular biology. She got her Master's Degree from the University of Connecticut in Tropical Ecology and Plant Physiology. And then she turned to medicine, and got her medical Degree at the University of Maryland. And for the last nearly decade she has been the Chief of Pediatric Anesthesia at the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Florida. How do we live with fire? Join us for a talk about stewardship, resilience and hope. Fire is an essential part of California's ecology. Humans have been using it to shape the California landscape for thousands of years. But today many Californians' relationship to fire is one of fear. Obi Kaufmann, author of the best-selling California Field Atlas, now asks: How do we live with fire? What makes fire essential to a healthy and biodiverse Golden State, and how do we benefit from its teachings? With the same solution-minded ethic as his much-admired The State of Water: Understanding California's Most Precious Resource, Kaufmann presents fire as a force of regeneration rather than apocalypse. He considers the long history of ecological burns, the varied ways fire behaves across the state, and the lessons we can learn from California's largest fires of recent decades.
