NonCensored is a weekly round up of Harriet Langley-Swindon's very popular, very real daily radio show, completely non-Censored (but with all of the rubbish edited out). This week, Harriet is away - she's filling in for Mr Motivator in the primetime show on our sister TV news channel - so Producer Martin takes the reins! First up, we've got a fascinating phone-in call about dogs from Monday's show. Then, the network decided to run some old episodes instead of letting Martin host any more, so you've got some classic clips from last year, which haven't been on this podcast before! There's Harriet and Martin being joined by Diversity Correspondent Eshaan Akbar to talk about Oprah Winfrey's interview with Harry & Meghan from March 2021, and a clip from when our Love & Erotica Expert slash Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries joined us in August 2021 to discuss Michael Gove's dance moves. And to finish off, there's some previously-unheard clips from our interview with James O'Brien that kicked off this series back in June 2020, where he talks trolls, Ireland, and how he'.s going to apologise to Jacob Rees-Mogg. Tickets to our live show at the London Podcast Festival are still available - that's on Saturday 10th September, at 2pm, at King's Place. Book now at https://www.kingsplace.co.uk/whats-on/comedy/noncensored-with-rosie-holt/ Thanks to Rosie Holt (@RosieIsAHolt), Brendan Murphy (@NotMurphy), Eshaan Akbar (@EShaanAkbar), Anna Leong Brophy (@LongBrophy), Sooz Kempner (@SoozUK), James O'Brien (@MrJamesOB) and Ed Morrish. Tear gas fired indiscriminately around children and the elderly. Pepper spray unleashed at close-range on frustrated fans. Ticket holders blamed for delaying kickoff when they'd spent hours trying to enter the stadium in bottlenecks in tight spaces.Liverpool supporters have been defending themselves against accusations by French authorities they were responsible for the unrest at the Champions League final amid overcrowding outside the Stade de France caused by operational failings on Saturday. The British government called the treatment of the fans "deeply concerning."UEFA officials spent the hours after Liverpool lost 1-0 to Real Madrid in talks about the chaotic scenes that delayed the start of the final for 37 minutes in the biggest club match of the year.Even as the final started, riot police were firing rounds of tear gas immediately outside the stadium doors into wide open spaces to disperse any lingering people around Gate U.The French ministers for the interior and sports blamed ticketless Liverpool fans trying to force their way into the stadium, contrary to the scenes witnessed by reporters of people who appeared to be local youths climbing over fences. “Get down,” Liverpool supporters could be heard shouting.“The stigma around English fans is being used by the French public authorities for cheap political gain,” Ronan Evain, executive director of Football Supporters Europe, told The Associated Press on Sunday. The closing of gates sparked concerns among hundreds of fans outside the Liverpool section but little obvious aggression from them. Hostility by police appeared to inflame frustrations.Problems had been encountered even before getting to the final turnstiles with entry points into the wider perimeter blocked off, forcing fans through narrow passages that caused bottlenecks. While UEFA blamed fans arriving late for delaying kickoff in stadium announcements greeted by jeers, thousands from Liverpool were seen arriving hours before the game to be greeted by organizational disarray in the heat of the late afternoon. The congestion was partly caused by fans being diverted to a small entrance rather than a bigger one 150 meters away, said Evain, who advises UEFA on supporter issues.“There have always been mobility problems around the Stade de France,” Evain said.“We are appalled by the communication by the French public authorities. Liverpool and Real Madrid fans are the victims of yesterday's fiasco and are not the culprits here.“Tear gassing people trying to enter the stadium is insane.”The British government called on UEFA to launch a formal investigation into what went wrong with officials from the stadium and French authorities.“The footage and accounts from Liverpool fans and the media on their entry to the Stade de France last night are deeply concerning,” Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries said.“It is in the interests of everyone involved to understand what happened and to learn lessons from these events.”- by Rob Harris, AP

Streaming platforms are set to be regulated like linear broadcasters for the first time, under the UK Government's new plans, set out in a ‘White . Streaming platforms are set to be regulated like linear broadcasters for the first time, under the UK Government's new plans, set out in a ‘White Paper' policy document revealed this week. The UK regulator Ofcom, which currently monitors content on network television, will be responsible for applying and enforcing guidelines on Netflix, Disney+ and other streamers, which aren't currently subject to the Broadcasting Code. The changes would require video on demand services to ensure their audiences are protected from harmful or offensive material, and that principles of fairness, accuracy and privacy are all applied. The White Paper outlines possible fines for breaking the Code, with any errant VoD services liable to pay £250,000 or a figure up to 5% of the organisation's revenue, whichever is the higher amount. Linear broadcasters have been pushing for these guidelines to be applied to streamers for several years. Netflix responded to the proposal, saying they welcome measures to update the legal framework. The streamer asserted: “We look forward to reviewing the White Paper's other proposals and continuing to engage with the government on their plans.” The policy document also included plans to privatise Channel 4, currently owned by the government and paid for by advertising. This project has come in for widespread criticism across the British television industry, but the Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries has stuck to her line that the sale will help the channel thrive in the modern era, and that the money raised will be invested back into the television production sector.

The Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries tells Adam and Chris that Chelsea FC are on "borrowed time" and must be sold within weeks. She also says that the culture in Westminster is getting worse. Chelsea fans received an unwelcome present on the Premier English League team's 117th birthday Thursday: British government sanctions against Russian owner Roman Abramovich that only served to intensify the team's growing pariah status in the soccer world. The aluminum magnate is among seven wealthy Russians who had their assets frozen under British sanctions on Thursday in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.Under the unprecedented government action, Chelsea will operate through the end of the season May 31 with a special “Russia Regulations” license that among other restrictions prohibits the team from selling new tickets or merchandise, or signing new players. The club's future was already in doubt: Abramovich, whose $2 billion investment in Chelsea over 19 years transformed the team into a force in European football, had put the squad up for sale last week amid growing calls that sanctions be imposed on a man the government has labeled a “pro-Kremlin oligarch” linked to “destabilizing ... undermining and threatening” Ukraine. The British government also has alleged that Abramovich has obtained financial benefits from Putin's administration, including contracts in the buildup to Russia hosting the 2018 World Cup.“We are now turning the screw on influential oligarchs enabling his regime,” Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries said of Putin. “The important measures announced today will clearly have a direct impact on Chelsea FC and its fans but we are working hard to make sure the club and the national game are not unnecessarily harmed.”Club sponsors are responding in their own way: The telecommunications firm Three announced Thursday that it would suspend its sponsorship of the team and remove its logo from Chelsea's jerseys.“We recognize that this decision will impact the many Chelsea fans who follow their team passionately,” Three said. “However, we feel that given the circumstances, and the government sanction that is in place, it is the right thing to do.”But the logos still appeared when, in the only uplifting moments of the day for Chelsea, the men's team won 3-1 at Norwich in the Premier League and there was a 4-1 Women's Super League success at West Ham.Soccer fans immediately felt the effects of the British government's sanctions: Anyone with tickets until the end of the season will be able to attend matches, but those without will stay without while away fans will be unable to purchase tickets for upcoming games held at Stamford Bridge stadium. The new rules also limit the club to spending a maximum of 500,000 pounds ($657,000) on each match at Stamford Bridge, including on security and catering. A maximum of 20,000 pounds can be spent on travel to matches. Chelsea plays in France at Lille in the Champions League next week.Staff, including players, will continue to be paid. The club's wage bill was almost 28 million pounds ($37 million) a month in the most recent accounts. The club also has been effectively placed under a transfer ban since it cannot spend money to register new players.“We are very disappointed right now because of this,” said Tanjim Islam, a frustrated Chelsea fan from Vancouver, Canada, who stood outside the team's hastily closed merchandise shop at the stadium on Thursday. “We traveled from the west coast (of Canada) to be here.”Even worse for fans, though, is uncertainty about the club's fate.“We had a great legacy over the past 20 years,” Islam said. “We are doing great and (now) we don't know where our club will be in the future.”Lifelong Chelsea fan Freddie Frampton called the sanctions “hypocrisy at its highest level,” citing the European Union, of which Britain is no longer a part.“The EU is paying Putin 1 billion (euros) a day for Russian energy. On the other side, they're funding Ukraine with weapons. The madness has to end. Sanctioning Abramovich changes nothing. It's not Abramovich who is funding this war, it's Europe. Why take away our fun?"Chelsea completed the s...
