The Scottish Cup semi-finals are done and dusted, and there will be some familiar faces meeting each other in the showpiece in May. One face that (probably) won't be at Hampden for the final, however, is pundit Michael Stewart who was barred from entering the national stadium at the weekend by the SFA. Does his exclusion set a dangerous precedent for freedom of speech in our game? There's been endless chat about Hearts this season as they maintain the lead in the Premiership title race, but what's been going on at the top of the leagues below the top flight? We have a look around all the movers and shakers from the Championship to the Lowland and Highland Leagues. And with Scotland heading to the World Cup this Summer against a seemingly never-ending barrage of bad news stories around the fan experience in the host country, we try to make sense of what might lie in wait for the Tartan Army in June. And maybe Oli McBurnie too?Join Andrew Slaven, Laura Brannan and Findlay Marks once again as they're fully up to pod fitness and tackling the big talking points from the last week in Scottish football.RUNNING ORDER:00:00: INTRO: Snoods, tiny shin pads and...sports bras?03:37: SCOTTISH CUP: Dunfermline will meet Celtic in this year's final, but can you remember the last time the Pars faced off against the Hoops at Hampden11:54: EXTRA-TIME: Is there any point to an additional 30 minutes in the modern game?16:51: BANNING PUNDITS: Were the SFA right to ban Michael Stewart from covering the Scottish Cup semi-finals at Hampden?24:04: LOWER LEAGUES: Who's looking on course for the title from the Championship down to the Lowland and Highland leagues?30:29: SCOTLAND: What will lie in wait for fans heading over to the USA this summer?38:05: OLI MCBURNIE: The Hull City striker has been asking Steve Clarke what it will take for him to make the World Cup squad, but was he right to do so?41:34: OUTRO

In this episode of the Every Church Flourishing Podcast by the Great Commission Association of California, hosts Pastor Christopher Cole and Dr. Chase Thompson interview the senior directors of the GCA, including Dr. Michael Stewart, Ms. Lannette Lozano and Dr. Se J. Won about topics ranging from prayer to mission fields, to prayer and great pastoral resources. Chase and Chris also taste test Lester's Fixins Ranch Dressing Soda and barely survive the experience. In terms of what makes a church healthy and flourishing, there's no good answer to that question that doesn't begin with what Jesus said in John 15 about abiding in Him. - Chris Cole. "I've been to churches where there is an inauthentic, almost Stepford Wives too bright, too shiny kind of vibe where people greet you like you're their long-lost brother that they haven't seen in years…I would much prefer, rather than bright hot, gleaming and polished smiles, I would much prefer something more genuine, warm real and authentic. The way to make that happen is not a program, but to preach the Gospels, preach the epistles, and cultivate a people who value biblical humility, biblical serving, biblical gentleness and biblical warmth. There's no program or strategy that replaces the kind of outflow of the Fruit of the Spirit that should come from an authentic church with real greeters - that is massively important to reach your community. Cincinnati has managed to hurdle some of the competition, while the Pigeons from the 5 Boroughs have treaded water, especially on the road. My guest today is Joshua Rosenblum, author of Closer than Ever — The Unique Six-Decade Songwriting Partnership of Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire. This terrific new book chronicles the sixty-six-year (and counting) partnership of two of the most gifted songwriters of our time, giving full behind-the-scenes accounts of their musicals interspersed with deep-dive analyses of standout individual numbers. Among the well-known Broadway figures who feature prominently in the Maltby/Shire story are Stephen Sondheim, Hal Prince, Michael Stewart, Francis Ford Coppola, Susan Stroman, John Weidman, Charles Strouse, Garth Drabinsky, Jason Robert Brown, and Jonathan Tunick. Using his experiences as a Broadway conductor, music journalist, and professor of musical theater composition, as well as his long-term personal and professional acquaintance with both Maltby and Shire, Joshua Rosenblum is uniquely suited to chronicle their lives, careers, and creative output. The songwriters, both of whom are engaging and articulate in describing what they do, are quoted liberally throughout the book in exclusive interviews, creating the impression that one is spending time with two inspiring creative artists who happen to be great company. Joshua Rosenblum teaches Composing for Musical Theater at Yale University and Conducting at New York University. As a composer/lyricist, he wrote the scores to the off-Broadway musicals Fermat's Last Tango, Bush is Bad, and Einstein's Dreams (four Drama Desk Nominations). He has conducted fourteen Broadway and off-Broadway shows and has performed as pianist with the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, the City Center Encores! Orchestra, and the American Symphony. A longtime contributor of reviews and features to Opera News, Rosenblum is a summa cum laude graduate of Yale College and holds a master's degree in Piano from the Yale School of Music. With THE MAN NOBODY KILLED: Life, Death, and Art In Michael Stewart's New York (Celadon Books), author Elon Green brings us an investigation into a terrible episode of police brutality and its aftermath in mid-'80s NYC. We talk about what drew him to the story of Michael Stewart, a 25-year-old black artist-model-DJ who died at the hands of transit police in 1983, his amazement that no one else had written this book, and how his early assumptions about a coverup gave way to a different coverup. We get into how he so wonderfully evokes the gritty NYC of that era, spreading out a canvas that takes in the arts scene — think Haring, Basquiat, Madonna — and the awful crimes and police behavior — think Bumpurs, Goetz — of that era. We discuss the art of interviewing people 40+ years after an event without reopening old wounds, the judge on the case who talked with him for 3 hours and shared how his conclusions on the verdict changed, what he sees in Stewart's art, how he tries to build the entire environment of the world he's writing about in his books, why he considers himself a history writer (& despises the "true crime" label & genre), why being a good journalist means having a sense of decency, bringing his first book to life as an HBO series, and more.
