What is polyamory and how do you do it?* I asked writer Charyn Pfeuffer, who practices polyamory and open relationship styles. Over the past two decades, Charyn's sex-positive writing has appeared in more than 100 media outlets, including Marie Claire, Playboy, Refinery29, The Washington Post, Thrillist & Forbes. On this episode we discuss it all: Are people born poly? Can you be polyamorous and married? What about having children? We also define different types of polyamorous relationships and terms such as "primary partner", "nesting partner", and "fluid bonding." *This episode is a redo, sorry for the re-post, but was necessary. (Explained in ep) --- Books Charyn recommends for those curious about in entering into polyamory: 1. The Ethical Slut by Dossie Easton and Janet Hardy 2. More Than Two by Eve Rickert 3. Sex at Dawn by Christopher Ryan 4. Come as You Are by Emily Nagoski 5. Eight Things I Wish I'd Known About Polyamory by Cunning Minx --- Follow us! Kevin Patterson talks about his new book Love's Not Color Blind: Race and Representation in Polyamorous and Other Alternative Communities. We delve into how to figure out what you don’t know, being more inclusive in your community, balancing masculinity and non-monogamy, how the political climate has changed social interaction, light-skinned privilege, forced ambassadorship, those damn pink pussy hats & more. Ken & Sunny answer a listener question about g-spot play. Kevin’s bonus story (with a surprise, twist ending!) is at https://www.patreon.com/posts/17188911 Guest Bio Kevin Patterson is an active member of the Philadelphia polyamory community. He's been practicing ethical nonmonogamy since August of 2002 after opening up a relationship that eventually became his marriage. In April of 2015, Kevin was inspired to start Poly Role Models, an interview series for people describing their experiences with polyamory. Poly Role Models is part of a drive and a desire to change the way our lives and communities are viewed. It is currently the most diverse and inclusive platform for polyamory available. To continue the discussion of polyamorous representation, Kevin has extended the blog's work into nationwide speaking engagements about how race and polyamory intersect. This has led to the writing of the book, Love's Not Color Blind: Race and Representation in Polyamorous and Other Alternative Communities. What's polyamory got to do with health? Quite a lot actually. You may already be familiar with Dr Chris Ryan's landmark book Sex At Dawn, but that doesn't mean you know modern polyamory. In this thought provoking and often hilarious episode, Cunning Minx gives us the bare naked truth on the practical reality of having an ethical, non-monogomous relationship (whether you are pan-sexual or heterosexual). With a rare honesty, vulnerability and powerful command, Minx lays down what you really need to know about poly relationships in our modern times. Does polyamory confer an evolutionary advantage over pair bonding? I have no idea, and we don't get into that. Go read Sex at Dawn. Perhaps that will be our next poly episode. No, this conversation is about the practical and emotional aspect of being polyamorous in a society that is rigged against you. In sightful stuff. Cunning Minx is a speaker, podcaster and educator at Polyweekly. www.polyweekly.com
Cunning Minx jumps on the show to talk polyamory, her podcast Polyamory Weekly, her genesis in kink, jealousy, drama, having a user manual and her new book. You can find her and her podcast online at Polyweekly.com
Recently, our own United States of America had a watershed moment. An injustice so deeply ingrained into what we've called society, what we've called family, what we've called "real and respectable” with one fell swoop, became righted as a matter of not just public policy, but as law. The Supreme Court's decision on Obergefell v. Hodges granted marriage equality for all persons, and while the rest of the country's legal structure catches up to the new reality, we're seeing a vocal minority of polyamorous people... and a surprising amount of popular media address the possibility of multiple partner marriage… Poly marriage. We welcome Cunning Minx back to the Swingset, where she and Dylan step on their soap boxes and bring up Justice Roberts’ dissent’s thoughts on a plural marriage slippery slope, Justice Kennedy’s majority opinion based on fundamental rights instead of the expected equal protection. We discuss what marriage is anyway and what it represents between us as people, us as the government, and us and our beliefs. We look at where polyamorous groupings and families are vulnerable and what marriage, or a set of contracts granting protection, or possibly an incorporation would do to protect them. Also… we discuss why we’re in the “Reefer Madness” stage of the general public recognizing what polyamory is. Some articles that might interest you since they informed our discussion (for better or worse… THANKS MEDIA): http://thefederalist.com/2015/07/06/polyamory-is-bad-for-kids-polyamorists-and-society/#disqus_thread http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/07/case-against-polygamy/397823/?utm_source=SFFB http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2015/07/10/heres-why-people-are-arguing-over-whether-polygamy-is-the-next-gay-marriage-debate/ http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2015/06/is_polygamy_next_after_gay_marriage_chief_justice_roberts_obergefell_dissent.html

Leo LaPorte said on "This Week in Tech" that he abandoned Second Life because "it's all about sex." Made my jaw drop to the floor. After I picked it up, this is what I wanted to tell you about Second Life, what it's not "all about," and what it is, at least from my viewpoint. Used a tune called "Day Job" from Chris Kirby's album "Vampire Hotel" on the show. Back when I interviewed him on The IDSL he said I could use his music on my show. He may even vaguely remember who I am. I encourage you to buy and check out the rest of the album, too -- I think the title tune from "Vampire Hotel" reminds me of almost all the clubs in Second Life where I've DJed late into the night. Except of course we take vampires a lot more seriously in Second Life. ;-) Oh, it turns out Chris Kirby has a brand new album, "Wonderizer." I just got my MP3 copy from Amazon (and then Chris wanted to send me one, oh well...) and I look forward to listening to it. Might be getting a signed CD for a later giveaway, we're talkin'. ;) Show Theme "Hot Swing" from Kevin MacLeod of Incompetech.com.
