It's hard to believe we're still talking about COVID/Pandemic programs, but the truth is that we'll probably still be talking about them for a long time. In today's episode of Beyond Bitewings, Robert and Ash are covering some of these programs, and other things that might be changing based on the potential passing of new bills in 2022. The first thing they cover is what you need to know about the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL), and when you need to start thinking about paying it back. Although the program is over, payments on it haven't started and holding off that payback may be in your best interest. They also talk about the Provider Relief Fund. Again, this fund is no longer taking applications, but there are requirements for reporting, and those are based on when you took out that money. They discuss what you need to know about when your reports should be submitted. Other topics they cover are why getting an NPI number was important for some of these programs, and why if you don't have one, you should consider getting one sooner rather than later. They also discuss retirement funding, and why the government is trying to pass a bill that delays when you will be forced to start taking your distributions. This may not seem like a big deal, but Robert talks about why this could mean more money in your retirement years. And the team at Edwards and Associates is seeing a huge uptick in their clients receiving spam about applying for the ERC Credit. Robert and Ash talk about why you need to be very careful about these emails, and what you need to know before sending these companies any of your data or allowing them to submit the ERC Credit request for you.  If you have specific questions about these updates, or if you'd like to have another question answered on a future podcast, pleasehttps://eandassociates.com/book-a-meeting-dental-cpa/?nowprocket=1 ( reach out to the Edwards & Associates team).

In this episode, we talk about some things you need to consider when paying for your COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL). Funded by the Small Business Administration (SBA), the EIDL was one of the ways to help small businesses take care of their cash flow needs related to their business operations. If you're just sitting there on your SBA money, and you didn't use it, now is absolutely the time to figure out whether you need to keep it. Otherwise, you should likely consider paying it back if you're not going to use it in a way that's going to earn more than what the interest is costing you. For those businesses that took advantage of this opportunity, the bills are coming due. They've delayed it several times so there has been some confusion on the due dates. People have started getting email notifications. In their last email notification around mid-April, they stated they had deferred payments for another six months.  Since the interest rates are so low, the payments are extremely reasonable considering its 30-year payment schedule too. So it shouldn't hurt the bank account of small businesses too much if you're getting ready to book a loan repayment.  In this episode, you will hear: Requesting an increase in your EIDL loan as a second loan How to check your balance on your SBA EIDL loan When to start making payments No prepayment penalty for EIDL loans What happens if you miss a payment Getting other loans when you have an SBA EIDL loan in place Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? Barb Sheldon of Alerus Bank identifies the various federal and local loan and grant programs available to small business owners. She explains the purpose and availability of the various options: -The Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) from the Small Business Administration which were the SBA's first grants/loans offered to small businesses. The first round of funding has been exhausted. There has been a second round of funding, but the remaining funds are directed at agricultural businesses (for now). The guidelines are subject to change. -The Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans which were focused on helping businesses maintain their payroll. These loans are forgivable if you fall within certain parameters. -The SBA Express Bridge Loans which were to be fast turnaround loans of up to $25,000 while businesses were awaiting the EIDL funds. -SBA Debt Relief under which the SBA will automatically pay your interest and principal on SBA loans for up to six months. -The Main Street Lending Program which the Federal Reserve will unveil at the end of the month. This loan program is directed at small and medium-sized businesses. She discuss local programs as well. In St. Paul there are two loan programs—the Neighborhood Star Program and the Job Opportunity Fund. Minneapolis has the Two Percent Loan Program and the Great Streets Program. These are largely focused on capital improvements, working capital and job creation. In addition, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) website has a lot of helpful information. Finally, she discusses the importance of having a relationship with your banker to get the services and resources your business needs.
