Before you hit "play," make sure you've listened to Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, and Part 4 of the series!Taking action toward something can feel so good. It gives us a sense of moving forward and getting closer to what we want, but at the same time, it can feel discouraging when we fall off our plan. When that happens, the key isn't simply taking more action. It's learning how to follow through on your goals using action strategies that work with your mind, emotions, nervous system, and real life. This episode is the fifth in my 6-part series teaching you the Life Mastery Method. So far, we've explored whether change is possible, learned how to interrupt patterns that keep you stuck, talked about the importance of your emotional world, and examined how the nervous system shapes the way we work toward change. Today, we're talking about your relationship with taking action. You'll learn how to create action plans that account for the obstacles that may get in your way, understand why some plans are easier to follow through on than others, and use strategies that support you when things don't go exactly as planned. I've also created a companion worksheet to help you follow along with this episode, which you can download here. So, why do even the best action plans sometimes fall apart? Taking new action requires energy and effort, and when something feels difficult, it's easy to assume it will always feel that way. Add in harmful beliefs about yourself and old patterns, and it becomes even harder to follow through. In this episode, you'll learn how to anticipate the obstacles that could get in your way and create strategies for them ahead of time.Your action plan doesn't have to unfold perfectly, and changing the plan doesn't mean you've failed. The goal is to stay connected to what you ultimately want while giving yourself the flexibility to reassess, redirect, and keep moving forward. Next week, in the final part of the series, we're diving into the key to making any transformation possible: your relationship with yourself. What you'll learn:Why understanding your mind, emotions, nervous system, and behavior patterns can change the way you approach taking actionWhy new habits and behaviors require more energy at first, but that doesn't mean they aren't workingHow to anticipate obstacles that may interfere with your plan and create strategies to help you when they ariseExamples of action strategies for better health, wealth, and relationships and how to stay on track with each oneWhy it's important to remember that your action plan is a pathway to your goal, not the destinationYou can read the full show notes here.Listen to the rest of the Life Mastery Method series:Part 1 episode + worksheetPart 2 episode + worksheetPart 3 episode + worksheetPart 4 episode + worksheetConnect with Molly ClaireMaster Coach Training Application OpenGet the book: She Rises: Insights and Wisdom from the Women of The Masterful Coach CollectiveMolly's Website: MollyClaire.ComHave a question or thoughts about the podcast? Before you hit "play," make sure you've listened to Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 of the series! How often do you find yourself in a stress state—highly activated, reactive, and overwhelmed—when it comes to a certain area of your life? My guess is that when this happens, you don't like how you feel and wish you could feel differently. But that activation is a signal that there's something in your life you need to pay attention to, and learning to understand your nervous system can become a powerful tool for creating change. This episode is the fourth in my 6-part series teaching you the Life Mastery Method. So far, we've explored whether change is possible, learned how to interrupt patterns that keep you stuck, and talked about the importance of your emotional world. Today, we're turning our attention to the nervous system and how it shapes the way we work toward change. Because your nervous system is not the enemy; it's an essential part of moving you towards growth. I've also created a companion worksheet to help you follow along with this episode, which you can download here.Instead of assuming that every uncomfortable activation needs to be regulated away, I invite you to get curious about what your nervous system is trying to tell you. There is a difference between a stress response that needs support and an alert that something in your life isn't aligning with your needs and values. Learning to make this distinction can help you better understand your patterns and practice responding rather than reacting when challenging situations arise. Your nervous system is the backdrop of all your thoughts and feelings, and it's working constantly to keep you alive, protect you, and help you navigate the world around you. I'm so grateful for my nervous system, and I hope that by the end of this episode, you will be too. There are two more parts left in my Life Mastery Method series, so make sure you tune in next week when we talk about action strategies that actually work. What you'll learn:Why your nervous system isn't the enemy and how healthy sympathetic activation can actually mobilize you to take actionThe difference between the old brain and the new brain: one is designed to prioritize survival while the other gives you the ability to plan and problem-solveHow to use discernment when your nervous system is activated by asking whether your response is coming from past fears or alerting you to a real problemHow building nervous system resilience can make it easier to access and understand your emotionsWhy practicing the ways you want to show up can help turn positive behaviors into automatic patterns over timeYou can read the full show notes here.Listen to the rest of the Life Mastery Method series:Part 1 episode + worksheetPart 2 episode + worksheetPart 3 episode + worksheetConnect with Molly ClaireMaster Coach Training Application OpenGet the book: She Rises: Insights and Wisdom from the Women of The Masterful Coach CollectiveMolly's Website: MollyClaire.ComHave a question or thoughts about the podcast? Why You're Still Overwhelmed After Trying Every Productivity System

Are you on a mission to find the best productivity app or system, and find that no matter how many apps or new methods you try, you still find yourself overwhelmed, backlogged and stuck? Well, this week I want to tell you about a new way I can help you.  Links: Email Me | Twitter | Facebook | Website | Linkedin   Learn more about the Productivity Academy The Working With… Weekly Newsletter Carl Pullein Learning Centre Carl's YouTube Channel Carl Pullein Coaching Programmes Subscribe to my Substack  The Working With… Podcast Previous episodes page Script |427 Hello, and welcome to episode 427 of the Your Time, Your Way Podcast. A podcast to answer all your questions about productivity, time management, self-development, and goal planning. My name is Carl Pullein, and I am your host of this show.  Eleven years ago, I began writing blog posts on time management and productivity. My goal was simple. To help people navigate the rapidly changing world of time management and productivity.  In 2015, it seemed almost every day a new task manager or notes app would come out promising to make organising your day easier.  This meant established productivity apps such as OmniFocus, Things, Remember the Milk and Todoist had to change to keep up. So these apps started adding features, changing their design languages, and everything started to become more complicated. AI today is doing exactly the same thing. Promising a lot and forcing established productivity tools to add more and more features, whether we want them or not.  When trying to decide if a new productivity tool is all that it promises to be, I've noticed that many of these promises are repackaged things that already exist.  For example, I've been using an app called TextExpander for fifteen years now. TextExpander inserts pre-written “snippets” of text through a keyboard shortcut.  I use it for writing dates so I don't need to look up the date. All I type is “Edate”, and it will give me the date in the UK format: day, month and year.  I also have some pre-written thank you emails there too. They are written by me in my writing style, and a simple keyboard shortcut will give me the email. While TextExpander won't send the email for me, all I need to do is hit Command and return on my keyboard, and it will send it.  Then we have tools such as Calendly and Acuity. These tools allow you to set up times on your calendar that people can pick from to set up an appointment with you. Once set up, this works in the background, and you have nothing to do.  No back-and-forth negotiating a time. People just click on a link, and these tools deal with time zone differences and all the admin.  No need for AI to get involved.  AI will inevitably change the way we work; for many people, it already has. However, there are some principles that never change.  There will still be 24 hours in a day, you will still be able to only focus on one thing at a time, and you won't be able to be in more than one place at a time.  Your energy will fluctuate, and you will need to get enough sleep.  The need to manage our time is still there. We still have friends and family, work commitments and perhaps some hobbies. They all need time.  And the principles of time management will not change. If you want to do something, it will require time. Whether that's cleaning out your car or sitting on the sofa chatting with an AI bot.  Time management and productivity skills will still be needed no matter what advances AI brings to our workplaces and lives. Thinking about all this led me to look at how people are engaging with my Learning Centre. This is where I have courses and programmes to help people become better at managing their time and become more productive.  As I was looking, I noticed something interesting. The people who have made the biggest positive changes in their lives weren't the people who bought the most courses. They were the people who kept learning. They perhaps began with my COD course, my free productivity fundamentals course, then went on to purchase the Time and Life Mastery programme or the Time Sector System course.  Some went on to join my coaching programme so they could have guidance on building their own, tailor-made system.  This highlighted a mistake many people make with time management and productivity. They approach it as if it were a destination. Find the perfect app, read the right book, take the right course, watch one more YouTube video, then they'll finally be organised. Yet that's not how it works, and you've probably noticed. A few years ago, the trend was minimalist desk set-ups. This is where people stripped everything from their workspace so all they had was a small plant, a simple lamp and a laptop attached to a large monitor.  YouTube was full of videos of people showing off their desk setups. They looked great, but did absolutely nothing for their productivity.  Now the trend is to have books and notebooks everywhere. The plants survived, but the little desk accessories have reappeared. Minimalism seems to have lost its appeal. Few people have been able to stick with it.  It seems keeping things minimal is challenging and time-consuming. I also saw something similar when I was at university; I studied part-time. 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm every Tuesday and Thursday.  On our first day, there were just over 200 students crammed into the lecture theatre. All excitedly looking forward to their graduation day four years later with an LL.B Honours degree.  I remember the professor in charge of the course telling us that 70 to 80% of those in that lecture theatre would not graduate. Not because the course was particularly difficult. It wasn't. But because committing six hours a week to attending lectures for four years would be a commitment beyond most people.  And on our graduation day, there were just 24 students left. Almost 200 students had quit! It didn't matter what tools or processes you had. What mattered was understanding the basic principles of time management. Turning up consistently and doing the work.  It had nothing to do with academic ability or how smart someone was. The people who graduated were the ones who turned up constantly and managed their time so they were able to attend the lectures and do the reading (there was a lot of reading to do for a law degree) week after week for four years.  Being good at time management and consistently productive is more like fitness. Let's say you wanted to get fit. You wouldn't expect to take a three-hour course on weight training and suddenly become stronger.  Fitness doesn't work like that. The same is true of playing the piano, learning a language, cooking, and photography. These are not one-time learning experiences; they're continuous. And learning to better manage your time and be more productive is no different. Our lives and work change. We may begin as a junior administrative assistant, but within a year or two we are managing a team of four people and overseeing projects.  You start a family; now suddenly you have a little monster waking up every two or three hours screaming through the night. And as your kids grow up, you have commitments to take them to and pick them up from swimming or football practice.  The time management skills you learned at school and university don't work in the workplace. And as you change jobs, you need to learn new ways to manage your time both professionally and personally.  The real challenge isn't knowing what to do. If you've followed this podcast or my YouTube channel, you will already know you should plan your week and day, spend less time reacting to emails and messages, and protect time for your core work (at least I hope you do). The challenge is applying what you know consistently while juggling meetings, deadlines, family commitments and the unexpected events that arrive every day. This is why consuming more productivity content isn't going to create the change you want. As James Clear's Atomic Habits (a fantastic book) shows: Information fades; your habits remain. Over the years I've noticed something about many of the people I've coached. The ones that become brilliant at managing their time don't just complete a course or have one or two coaching sessions and disappear; they keep coming back. They ask questions, refine their systems, and they adapt as their careers and family lives change. They come back to ideas we implemented years ago and learn new ideas because they now have different challenges.  My best clients have been with me for over eight years, and they are the ones who've seen incredible changes, so much so that they've inspired me! I realise now that when my driving instructor told me years ago that: “You don't learn to really drive a car until you've passed your driving test.”  the same is true about your time management and productivity: you don't become more productive and better at managing your time until you start practising what you learned.  All this got me thinking about what productivity education should look like over the next five to ten years. I don't believe it's about creating more courses, and it's certainly not about developing more complicated systems, packaging them up and selling them.  Instead, it's about creating a place where people can continue learning, refining and improving over time, just like many of my coaching clients have done. They understand that becoming organised and in control of their time isn't a project; it's a lifelong commitment. And like every commitment, it works for those who stick with it. So, going forward, I will be introducing more live training events for you.  I started doing a few live training events in 2023, and some of my favourite moments have been in those sessions. I've been able to answer questions, explore new ideas and help people apply what they've learned to their own situations. Standalone courses don't allow me to do that, because we are all different, with different professions and responsibilities; no ‘one size' will fit everyone, and that's frustrating as a teacher.  Live training changes that. It gives you a place to ask me questions directly related to your challenges. That is what I want to make an ongoing part of the learning experience, not something that only happens occasionally. The courses and programmes give you the technical knowledge and theory. The live training gives you the practical skills to put what you learn in the courses into practice in ways that work for you.  It's the difference between learning to drive by reading a book or getting in a car with an instructor and actually going out there and driving. All this thinking led me yesterday to launch my Productivity Academy. It is the result of months of work, giving you a place where you can keep coming back, get answers to your questions, and work with a group of people on a similar journey as yourself.  And it includes monthly live training sessions that you can join, ask questions, and have the principles applied directly to the way you work.  It will also give you access to all my current and future courses, along with a recommended roadmap for taking them.  My overall goal hasn't changed. That's to help as many people as I can become better at managing their time and being more productive so they can enjoy the things they want to enjoy doing.  But I realise I need to do more, and the best way I can do that is to increase the live training element, which will allow me to help you navigate the current and future ways we work.  If you've already purchased several of my courses, please don't think you need to replace them. You don't. Those courses remain yours exactly as before. The Academy is simply a different way to learn. The courses will give you the theory and know-how. The Academy will give you the practical skills (and some accountability) to put what you have learned into practice. If you enjoy learning independently, nothing changes. If, however, you'd like regular guidance, monthly training and access to everything I create going forward, I think you'll really enjoy becoming an Academy Member.  I will put a link in the show notes to the Academy's website, and feel free to email me if you have any questions.  I hope to be able to “meet” you in one of our live training sessions soon.  Thank you for listening, and it just remains for me to wish you a very, very productive week.

Before you hit "play," make sure you've listened to Part 1 of the series! You've probably heard that changing your thoughts changes your life. But what if your thoughts aren't actually where change begins? There's no doubt that mindset work plays an important role in coaching, but lasting transformation starts by interrupting the patterns beneath your thinking. This episode is the second in my 6-part series teaching you the Life Mastery Method. Last week, we explored the question: Can people really change? Can someone who repeats patterns over and over truly transform their life? The answer is yes, and this week, we're focusing specifically on interrupting those patterns that are keeping you—or your clients—stuck. I've also created a companion worksheet to help you follow along with this episode, which you can download here. Our brain, emotions, nervous system, and behaviors all live in patterns, and some of the biggest changes in ourselves and in society come from interrupting those patterns. I see it in the women I work with who are prioritizing their well-being, changing relationship dynamics, and stepping into greater financial independence. I see it in the men I work with who are allowing themselves to cry and fully experience their emotions. Changing patterns is possible, and learning to interrupt the patterns that no longer serve you is one of the missing keys to the greater experience of life we're all craving.Today, I'll walk you through four different ways to interrupt your patterns so you can experience more peace, greater alignment with your values, and a deeper sense of who you are and your worth. Next week, we'll go even deeper into the emotional side of the Life Mastery Method and discover why learning to work with your emotions is one of the most powerful ways to grow. You can read the full show notes here. What you'll learn:The way I teach mindset work and why it's likely different from what you've encountered beforeHow patterns aren't inherently negative and why strengthening healthy patterns is part of growthWhy mindset work and pattern interruption are connected, but why mindset alone isn't enoughWhy using thinking to avoid your feelings keeps you stuck and how to interrupt that patternHow life mastery isn't possible unless we learn to connect with our emotional selvesListen to the rest of the Life Mastery Method series:Part 1 episode + worksheetConnect with Molly ClaireMaster Coach Training Application OpenGet the book: She Rises: Insights and Wisdom from the Women of The Masterful Coach CollectiveMolly's Website: MollyClaire.ComHave a question or thoughts about the podcast? Jay's story isn't just about baseball—it's about resilience. From getting drafted later than expected to navigating the ups and downs of a global career that took him from the U.S. to Japan, Mexico, and beyond, he learned how to stay grounded, positive, and focused when most people would've quit. Over a 17+ year professional career, he played for multiple MLB organizations and built a reputation not just for performance—but for mindset. We talk about what it really takes to last that long in a high-pressure environment—and why success has less to do with talent and more to do with discipline, intentionality, and the people you surround yourself with. Jay also shares the philosophy behind his book, 9 Innings to Living Your Best Life—a framework for living with purpose, maintaining a positive mindset, and leading both on and off the field. The book breaks life into “innings,” each focused on habits like gratitude, accountability, and mental toughness. We get into: Why adversity is your biggest advantage (if you let it be) The power of starting your day with intention How elite performers stay mentally locked in Why “being where your feet are” might be the most important skill you can build The role of mentorship in long-term success Jay is now transitioning into his next chapter—focusing on coaching, mentorship, and helping the next generation develop both as athletes and as people. Today, Michael welcomes Dr. John Demartini. John is a world-renowned human behavior expert, educator, and bestselling author whose work bridges psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, and human performance. From overcoming dyslexia and a speech impediment to becoming a globally sought-after speaker and founder of the Demartini Method, he has dedicated more than five decades to understanding what drives human excellence. His teachings focus on awakening inner genius, aligning with one's highest values, and transforming challenges into catalysts for growth and fulfillment. Conversation Highlights Include: -A powerful story of overcoming dyslexia, dropping out of school, and learning to read at 18 — proving that limitations do not define destiny. -A near-death experience that became a catalyst for spiritual awakening, leading to a lifelong commitment to learning, teaching, and inspired action. -The simple yet profound affirmation "I am a genius and I apply my wisdom," practiced daily for over five decades as a way of rewiring identity and belief. -A redefinition of genius as listening to the inner voice and allowing that vision to be louder than outside opinions. -How identifying and aligning with your highest values unlocks energy, clarity, and authentic purpose — while living by "shoulds" creates internal conflict. -A striking financial exercise revealing why many people say they want freedom but spend in ways that contradict their stated goals. -Why distractions are not enemies but feedback, signaling when you're not living in alignment with what truly matters. -A reframing of trauma as perception — and how asking new questions can dissolve victimhood and reveal hidden benefits. -A deeply personal reflection on grief, love, and the idea that nothing is ever truly lost — it simply changes form. -The power of daily rituals, including a 53-year gratitude journal practice that documents growth, vision, and spiritual expansion. Next, a closing meditation guided by Michael, inviting listeners to return to awareness itself, release distraction, and remember their oneness with the Infinite.

“Most people overestimate what they can achieve in twelve months and underestimate what they can accomplish in a decade.”  I first heard that quote from Tony Robbins, and it completely changed my approach to yearly goals. I stopped setting ‘New Year's resolutions' and began looking further ahead to see what I could do over the next twelve months that would move me closer to my longer-term dreams and goals.  In this week's special episode, I will share with you why smaller steps over the next twelve months will do so much more for you than trying to do something big and scary that you ultimately fail at.  Let's go. A podcast to answer all your questions about productivity, time management, self-development, and goal planning. My name is Carl Pullein, and I am your host of this show.  What are the mistakes most people make when it comes to goals and resolutions for the New Year?  Well, the simple answer is that they overcomplicate things and try to do too much in one year.  Let me explain. Like most people, I used to set New Year's resolutions when I was growing up. At various times in my life, they included losing weight and getting fit, quitting smoking, saving money and many more.  And, again, like most people, I failed miserably every time.  What Tony Robbins' quote made me realise is that I was failing because none of these resolutions were connected to my long-term goals or vision.  I was in my twenties, and I believed I was immortal. It wasn't until I reached my early thirties that three-day hangovers convinced me that I wasn't immortal after all.  It wasn't until I'd settled down, married and begun to see a life ahead of me that I started to wonder if I could control that life and the direction it would go in.  And yes, I could. And so can you. But you do need to know what kind of life you want to be living in ten or twenty years.  Hope is not a good strategy. It's no good carrying on as you are and “hoping” you will one day reach the goals and the life you've always wanted to live.  To achieve that, you will need to take action.  To give you an example of what I mean.  I want to be active well into my eighties and nineties. I long admired Prince Philip, the late Duke of Edinburgh. He died in 2021, just a couple of months short of his 100th birthday. And yet he remained active throughout his eighties and nineties, being one of the hardest-working members of the Royal family.  The Queen allowed him to retire at 97.  How did Prince Philip maintain his strength and endurance?  He did something called the 5BX every morning for eleven minutes.  5BX is a series of body-weight exercises you can do anywhere that was developed by the Royal Canadian Air Force in the 1940s to keep their servicemen fit, healthy and strong.  I highly recommend you search for the original Royal Canadian Air Force instructional video on YouTube and watch it. It seems so quaint by today's standards.  He also walked miles and miles every day, ate small portions of food based on a traditional balanced diet, limited his alcohol intake, and went to bed and woke up at the same time each day. If we were to break that down into daily activities, it was simple and doable. Because he was able to do it every day—even when he was travelling—it meant there were few excuses he could use not to do it.  You wake up, and after a few minutes, do your 5BX session, shower, have a small, healthy breakfast, and get on with your day, taking every opportunity to walk. And you do it every day.  Tie that to going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, and you would be setting yourself up for a long, healthy, active life.  And in that, there is nothing complicated or time-consuming.  There are also no goals involved. It's just a shift in your daily routine, so these activities become part of your daily routine.  Although I would suggest you use January as a “test”. Often, we read or listen to something, think it's a good idea and then find that because of our circumstances, we struggle to make it work.  That doesn't mean it cannot work. It means we need to rethink the routine and make a few changes so it works for us.  I remember reading Robin Sharma's The 5 AM Club and thought it was a good idea. And it was a good idea in 2016. I could get to bed at a reasonable time.  Then I started my productivity work and coaching programme, and it became challenging to get to bed before midnight. Something had to change.  I realised that the power of the 5 AM Club was not in getting up at 5 AM. It was what you did when you woke up. So, the only thing I needed to change was my wake-up time. And ten years later, I still follow the morning routine I developed after reading that book.  Another example would be with your personal finances. Davie Ramsey's book, The Total Money Makeover, gives a simple step-by-step approach to getting your personal finances in order.  The first is to build a starter emergency fund—usually around $1,000 to $5,000. Then pay off all non-mortgage debts as quickly as you can.  The third step is to build a longer-term emergency fund. That would be three to six months of living expenses.  And then to invest in your retirement and live on less than you earn.  Within that framework, there would be a few key things you could do. For example, try to save the starter emergency fund in 2026 and pay down some of your shorter-term debts.  Around those areas, you could set some goals in 2026.  The bigger principle in The Total Money Makeover is to pay off all debts, including mortgages. That's unlikely to be possible for most people in one year, but over ten years? It could be possible.  The good thing about something like this is that you can plan five or ten years ahead and set a goal to be completely debt-free by 2036.  Whether it's health or finances, what you are doing is setting standards for how you live your life. You eat healthy, do some exercise each day, and live within your means.  And really, that's what a new year should be all about. Not resolutions or goals, but reaffirming your standards. The standards you live your life by.  Standards don't need motivation; they are just the way you live your life.  However, when setting your standards, you will likely need some help from motivation and self-discipline initially. There will be days when you forget to do something or cannot do it. That's perfectly normal.  It's not about hitting everything 100% of the time. That would be impossible anyway. I would suggest a monthly target of 80%+  A good example of this is when I travel to visit my parents. The trip from our home in Korea to where my parents live on the West Coast of Ireland takes about 26 hours door-to-door.  During that time, I am not able to go out for a run or to the gym. If my goal were to exercise every day, I would be setting myself up for failure before I begin. I travel to visit my parents at least once a year.  And if I were determined to do it, why put myself through that extra stress? Travelling is stressful enough.  Then there would be those occasions when I am ill or delayed when travelling domestically.  However, if my target was an 80% success rate, I'm in with a chance, and on those days when I'm exhausted or an emergency comes up, I wouldn't be destroying my standards.  If you want to discover what is important to you in your life, I suggest you download my free Areas of Focus workbook. That workbook will take you through each of the eight areas of life we all share, help you define each one and then set some actionable steps you can take to keep your areas in balance.  It's a great way to kick off a new year, as it will help you focus on what matters to you and identify areas where you can establish habits and standards that will be meaningful to you. A new year is a wonderful opportunity to review how things are going in our lives and reflect on what we could change to get our lives back on the right track, living the life we want.  If you're entirely new to this approach to a new year, don't really know what your longer-term vision is, or aren't clear on what is important to you in life, and you're ready to make changes, I would recommend my Time and Life Mastery online course.  This is a complete package that will help you explore what is important to you. Once you have established those, I then show you how to build your standards into your daily life.  Plus, you get my complete mini-course library for free when you join. Life is about engaging with the choices you can make right now, and embracing uncertainty with the courage to choose again and again. In this episode of Real Things Living, host Brigitte Cutshall speaks with entrepreneur and author, Hussein Hallak, about his book "The Dark Art of Life Mastery" and his mission to turn lived experience into legacy. They explore why making choices—big or small—matters more than getting them “right,” how curiosity and resilience shape our growth, and why human connection will always outweigh technology's advances. This conversation is a reminder that the real art of life is not about control, but about choosing fully in the present moment—again and again.3 Takeaways:(1) Choice is a skill—the more often you practice making decisions, the more confident and resilient you become.(2) Small choices matter—you're not stuck; if something isn't working, you can make a different choice in the moment.(3) Human stories connect us—technology can assist, but it can't replace the meaning, empathy, and joy we create through lived experience.Check out Hussein's book "The Dark Art of Life Mastery" and connect with him at https://husseinhallak.comSubscribe to Real Things Living for more conversations that celebrate resilience, creativity, and the power of choice.

In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Aanya sits down with Hussein Hallak, author of The Dark Art of Life Mastery, to unpack what it really means to live with clarity, courage, and authenticity. From his journey as a Syrian-born Canadian navigating war, migration, and reinvention, Hussein shares practical insights on mindfulness as a lived practice, not a buzzword. Together, they explore why clarity must start within, how discomfort signals growth, and why authenticity is about becoming yourself rather than simply being yourself. This conversation challenges you to stop waiting for permission and begin shaping life on your own terms—messy, imperfect, and fully alive. About the Guest   Hussein Hallak is a Syrian-born Canadian entrepreneur, writer, and mentor who has spent over two decades helping people make sense of chaos—whether in business, art, or everyday life. His book The Dark Art of Life Mastery offers a raw, honest perspective on stripping away illusions, reclaiming agency, and choosing courage over comfort. Key Takeaways   Clarity starts inward: being clear on values, purpose, and choices is more powerful than clarity about external events. Daily practice: asking “What matters most today?” can transform decision-making and create alignment. Growth requires discomfort: stepping outside comfort zones is where expansion and joy happen. Risk is part of life: the key is managing risks through small, intentional steps rather than avoiding them altogether. Authenticity isn't “being yourself” but choosing who you want to be in each moment, based on your principles. Consistency matters in values and principles, not in external appearances or rigid routines. Courageous living means acting even with fear present, trusting that clarity and direction emerge through action. As an architect, nothing feels better than knowing a space you designed brought someone joy, or peace. But it's not easy to tap into that zone when you aren't making space for any of that in your own life.  In this episode, you'll hear from architect Peter Sandiford how he stopped going against the grain and started working with his instincts, energy levels and the environment to uplevel his practice. People sense when a building flows, with the rhythms of the environment by being sustainable and resilient, with the culture by respecting the vernacular, and with their own energy using feng shui principles. Happy architects make happy buildings. Work life integration requires that you respect your time and energy first.  Find the work style that works for you and you'll stop struggling to be successful. Welcome to the very first episode of Life, Mastered with Molly Claire! This shift in the podcast reflects my values and the deeper, more expansive work I feel called to share. It's been a long time coming, and I'm thrilled to finally bring it to you.In this episode, you'll hear about what you can expect from the new direction of this podcast and why, first and foremost, it really is for you. If you're someone who knows you're meant for more, who wants to grow and live the best possible life, and you're not willing to let anything get in your way, then you're the reason for this evolution. Whether you're a coach, a leader, or simply someone committed to positive and healthy growth, I want this podcast to provide you with the tools to achieve the life mastery you seek and create real, lasting change in your life. Here's what I want you to know first: Life mastery does not mean having a “perfect” life. It doesn't mean checking all the boxes and having everything figured out–that impossible standard only leads to burnout and disappointment. True life mastery comes from a willingness to be with ourselves. It's about the authenticity that so many of us want, yet struggle to actually embody–which we can achieve when we cultivate a relationship with self rooted in honesty and compassion. My four fundamentals of lasting change will be at the heart of this podcast moving forward. These fundamentals–mind mastery, emotional resilience, the nervous system, and action strategies–are the focus of my Master Coach Training program, but I believe understanding them is essential for everyone. They offer a holistic approach to finding the entry point to this work that will be most effective for you.In addition to revisiting the four fundamentals of lasting change, today we dive into the first of many powerful concepts I'll be discussing in this new era of the podcast: relationship with self. Life mastery doesn't happen at the surface level. It requires you to turn toward yourself and go deep into your thoughts and experiences as they arise. The more we can look within ourselves without judgment, the more capacity we have to grow, heal, and find peace. This podcast is for the ambitious soul, the truth seeker, and those of you who are just ready to feel confident in your own ability to create the life you want. I'm so excited that you're here. Let's do it!What you'll learn:Why your relationship with self is the foundation for life mastery and lasting changeA quote from Leland Val Van De Wall that reframes how we understand our relationship with selfHow to approach your relationship with self with compassionate curiosityA story that showcases the authenticity I want to bring to this podcast going forwardWhy you can choose to become your own greatest ally and believe in yourself unconditionallyYou can read the full show notes here.Connect with Molly ClaireMolly's Website: MollyClaire.ComMaster Coach Training 2026 Application...

Send us a textIn this profoundly insightful episode of the Self-Reflection Podcast, Lira sits down with serial entrepreneur, author, and venture coach Hussein Hallak, who shares his incredible journey from a challenging upbringing in Damascus, Syria, to building over 20 ventures and mentoring thousands. Hussein recounts how a lack of resources and a desire to support his family propelled him into entrepreneurship, forcing him to learn by trial and error in a time before the internet and business books were accessible. He reveals how the simple mantra of "taking action is better than doing nothing" became the cornerstone of his success, a lesson that was validated years later by one of the world's top incubators.Diving deep into the philosophy behind his book, "The Dark Art of Life Mastery," Hussein challenges the modern obsession with the mere appearance of success. He argues that true life mastery isn't found in material wealth or accolades but in one simple, profound word: joy. The conversation unpacks how to cultivate this inner joy, not as a fleeting feeling, but as a direct result of living a life of conscious choice. Hussein provides a powerful framework for understanding that even when faced with difficult circumstances, the ability to choose your response and your present reality is the ultimate source of personal power and contentment. This episode is a masterclass in navigating life's inherent uncertainty. Hussein shares practical, actionable steps for overcoming procrastination, dealing with the past, and shifting from a survival mindset to one of intentional action. He also speaks beautifully about the role of partnership, sharing how his 30-year relationship with his wife has been built on mutual accountability and demanding the best from one another. This is a timely and necessary conversation that offers a powerful antidote to the chaos of the modern world, reminding us that by taking ownership of our choices, we can find peace and purpose, no matter the storm.Support the showCall to Action: Engage with the Self-Reflection Podcast community!
