May 1st, 2002 24 year old Evelyn Hernandez just days away from giving birth to her second child and her 5 year old son Alex Hernandez went missing just a short 7 weeks prior to Laci Peterson but did not get the national coverage Laci's case got. Listen to part 1 of how eerily similar these 2 cases are!
On the afternoon of May 1, 2002, 24-year-old Evelyn Hernandez picked up her five-year-old son, Alex, from school in San Francisco. She was nine months pregnant and just days away from giving birth to a baby boy she planned to name Fernando. That evening, she called her sister to talk about her upcoming baby shower. It was the last time anyone ever heard from her. A week later—on what would have been Evelyn's due date—she and Alex were reported missing. Nearly three months later, Evelyn's partial remains were found in the Bay. But Alex and baby Fernando were never found. More than two decades have passed. Evelyn's murder remains unsolved. Her sons are still missing. And her family is still searching for answers. Evelyn Hernandez was 24 years old and nine months pregnant when she went missing on May 1, 2002. She was last seen at her apartment in San Francisco after spending the day running errands and picking up her five-year-old son, Alex, from school. Evelyn's partial remains were later found in the Bay, but her unborn son, Fernando, and her son Alex have never been located. When five year old Alex went missing, he was four feet tall and 45 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Scott Peterson was found guilty of murdering his wife Laci and unborn son Conner in 2004. With new documentaries released, some pushing his innocence, are we being gaslit by flashy edits and selective storytelling? In this episode, we peel back the layers of the Laci Peterson case, exposing the twisted campaign to rewrite history. Plus, we touch upon the haunting and mostly forgotten murder of pregnant mom Evelyn Hernandez—whose fate eerily mirrored Laci's. On May 1st, 2002, 24-year-old Evelyn Hernandez was pregnant with her second son and only a week from her due date. That morning, Evelyn called one of her sisters, then dropped Alex off at pre-school, ran a few errands, picked Alex back up, and ended the night by talking to her other sister about her upcoming baby shower. it wasn't an easy pregnancy for Evelyn. She had worked as a vocational nurse, at Costco, and the Clift Hotel in San Francisco's Union Square but eventually suffered complications with her pregnancy and was on disability by the end of it. On top of that, when she was about four months pregnant, she discovered that the father of her child, 36-year-old Herman Aguilera, was hiding a huge secret from her… he was married to another woman. However, Evelyn was somehow juggling all her responsibilities and holding it all together. She was planning for the baby shower and even had a name picked out for the new baby, Fernando. But after Evelyn hangs up with her sister… as Evelyn's due date approaches… she stops answering phone calls and stops taking Alex to school. About a week after that phone call with her sister, on May 7th, Evelyn's due date, Herman Aguilera reported her and Alex missing to the police. Then, just a few weeks later, in July, Evelyn's remains were discovered in the San Francisco Bay. She had been murdered. Unfortunately, her unborn son and Alex have not been found, and the case remains unsolved. Evelyn and Alex Hernandez were last heard from around 9 p.m. on May 1, 2002, in San Francisco. Evelyn's partial remains were found on July 24, 2002, in the San Francisco Bay. She was 24 years old when she was murdered and had brown hair and brown eyes. At the time of his disappearance, five-year-old Alexis, or Alex as he was more commonly known, was four feet tall, weighed 45 pounds, and had brown hair, and brown eyes. He may also go by Alex Hernandez-Repollet. Anyone with information is urged to contact the San Francisco Police Department Cold Case Unit at (415)553-1450. Thank you to our sponsor, June's Journey. CW: this episode discusses body descriptions of pregnant women and the concept of "coffin birth," please use caution when listening One week before her due date, 24 year old Evelyn Hernandez and her 5 year old son, Alex, went missing from her San Francisco neighborhood and were never seen alive again. Months later, Evelyn's body would be found in the San Francisco Bay, but her son Alex and her son-to-be, Fernando, were still missing. This is the case of the Hernandez family, and how Evelyn's case was tragically and unfairly eclipsed by an extremely similar case that captivated the world. Evelyn and her boys deserved, and still deserve, better. Evelyn Hernandez was 24 years old and 9 months pregnant when she, and her 5 year old son Alexis, went missing from the Crocker-Amazon neighbourhood of San Francisco. Several months later, her torso washed up on the banks beneath the Bay Bridge. Her son Alexis and her unborn son Fernando have never been found. This episode explores the murder of Evelyn and the suspected murder of her two sons, whilst also looking at a very similar case that got much more media attention. We discuss the concept of ‘Missing White Woman Syndrome’ in relation to the lack of media attention in Evelyn’s case and discuss what the motive might have been to kill her. ***************************************************************Thank you so much for listening to this episode of Infraction, we value your support more than you know! In 2002, Evelyn Hernandez had a 5-year-old son named Alex and was almost 9 months pregnant with her second son. On May 1, 2002, both Evelyn and Alex disappeared. Evelyn's torso was later found floating in the San Francisco Bay but Alex has never been found. Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the unsolved murder of Evelyn Hernandez and the disappearance of her son Alex. Evelyn's case has drawn many comparisons to the murder case of Laci Peterson because of the similar location and timeframe. On May 1st, 2002, Evelyn Hernandez went about her day normally. Evelyn was a single mother of a 5-year-old boy, Alex, and was 38 weeks pregnant with her second child. On this day, she dropped her son off at daycare, then spent the rest of the day running errands, mostly in preparation for her upcoming baby shower. Later that day, she picked up her son from daycare, and this was the last time she or her son would ever be seen.
