Carolyn Harding with Mary Aguilera and Anthony Whitmore, both Ohio leaders in the Poor Peoples Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. If you are working in activist circles or in faith-based circles, you've probably heard about Reverend Barber and the Poor Peoples' Campaign. I run into many folks who work on environmental, social, racial, economic justice issues and they also work with the Poor Peoples Campaign. Mary Aguilera is a Coordinating Committee member of the Ohio Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival. She volunteers as a community organizer in Cincinnati to mobilize, organize, register and educate for the Poor People's Campaign. “Mary knows that this work builds capacity for a beloved community.” Mary has worked as a para professional for Cincinnati Public Schools for twenty years. Her work recently has been focused around the threats to the Ohio River from petrochemical plants. She has a degree in Organizational Leadership from Union Institute & University. Anthony B. Whitmore, President of Whitmore Enterprises, provides economic and community development, educational, diversity and inclusion consultation both nationally and abroad. He's a retired executive of the Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority. His focus was on legislative and community relations efforts at the regional, state and federal level. He served as the Governor's Regional Director for Region IV. He was responsible for facilitating economic growth in 9 counties. A Dayton resident, Whitmore served Governors Voinovich and Taft administrations in several capacities. While serving on several county, state and national boards, he is clear in his faith while giving glory to God and remains a servant to his community. Carolyn Harding with Greg Pace and Teresa Mills, activists with extensive research, experience and action regarding Oil & Gas BRINE, and why we should not use this on our roads for ice or dust! Ohio HB 545 - A bill has been introduced that allows Oil and Gas Management to determine the safety of AquaSalina and other "conventional" brine products for use as a de-icer. Meet two intrepid activists raising the science and alarm to this radioactive BRINE - Ohio and many other states spread on our roads! Greg Pace is co-founder of the Columbus Community Bill of Rights- he's webmaster, treasurer, and puts out the 600 subscriber newsletter. He's an advocate with ‘StopBrineSpreading', the Ohio grassroots group educating the public on the danger of conventional oil and gas brine disposal on our roads, and working to create legislation to ban Brine disposals in the state of Ohio. Greg works with Clintonville Energy Collaborative to install solar on homes with a volunteer workforce, and works with Economic Democracy Advocates, educating the public on what resource democracy could look like. For over 20 years Teresa has worked as a grassroots leader to help communities to find their voices, analyze data and develop strategic plans. She began her activism career by shutting down the Columbus Incinerator, which was polluting her neighborhood and was later defined as the largest emitter of dioxin in the country. Teresa also founded Buckeye Environmental Network, a statewide coalition of grassroots-focused groups. Today she works with Center for Health and Environmental Justice to train and assist grassroots leaders across the country. Teresa also coordinates CHEJ's small Grants Program. Carolyn Harding (host) with 3 Indivisible Ohio District 15 activists/ organizers, Leah Hackleman-Good, Tina Cottone and Jim Kennedy, working on Buckeye State Rural. From website: “Our mission is to change the conversation in rural Ohio to promote progressive policies and candidates." The election of Trump and its aftermath of dangerous threats to democracy fuels Leah Hackleman-Good's daily actions and activism. As part of Indivisible Ohio District 15's leadership team, she's traveled all over the district to connect with activists, and to help organize rallies, events, and activities. She's made terrific connections with people outside the urban areas—"people that their current congressman doesn't care about”. She works on many campaigns, including her own, in 2018 for county commissioner. She manages the IndivisibleCOLUMBUS.com website and earns a living through her information design business. Tina Cottone found her place in Indivisible Ohio District 15 in January of 2017 and she's been an active participant/leader since. She's involved in outreach to all 12 counties in Ohio 15th Congressional District. In 2018 she worked for the D15 Congressional candidate, and canvassed for the Ohio Coordinated Campaign from June through November 2018. She was a neighborhood canvassing trainer for 2018 GOTV. She is the new Ohio Regional Organizing Coordinator for Swing Left. Jim Kennedy, MSW, is a retired Information Technology consultant, a trained and certified social worker, and an experienced social services planner and researcher. The common thread of his varied career is a concern for the wellbeing of, and opportunities for, children and families. His involvement with BSR is a natural outgrowth of his experience in managing child welfare service agencies, developing information technology to make social services agencies more efficient and effective, and performing strategic planning and program evaluations for a variety of social services sectors (including Head Start, Juvenile Justice, and child welfare services). He works with the BSR Advisory Group to craft relevant messages to better inform the voters in the rural areas of central Ohio. https://buckeyestaterural.com LISTEN HERE to ALL #GrassRootOhio radio podcasts archived on SoundCloud! https://soundcloud.com/user-42674753 New shows air Friday evenings at 5:00pm, EST, at 94.1 FM, Columbus and simultaneously online @ wgrn.org. Who are these intrepid commuters? Rain, Snow, Heat, Dark & Traffic? They aren't deterred. We'll talk with several committed Ohioan bike commuters and find out some of the secrets, tricks, inspiration & gear needed for this hard core commitment. Carolyn Harding (host) with four Central Ohio Bike Commuters, Karyn Deibel, Steve Palm-Hauser, Jerry Ulibarri and Catherine Girves. Not only on sunny, mild winter days, like we've been having this week, but on icy, wet, miserable, or hot, humid, bad air days and even nights, these folks face the elements, the traffic, the aches and pains to bike instead of drive. They inspire me….. Karyn Deibel is a certified Senior Trager Practitioner, an active member of Simply Living and Compassionate Communication of Central Ohio, An INELDA trained End of Life Death Doula, and an activist with Columbus Community Bill of Rights. Karyn is a lover of the earth who actively pursues ways to lighten her carbon foot print and to raise awareness that we and the earth are one. Steve Palm-Hauser is a technical writer and a free-lance journalist with the Columbus Free Press. “Besides protecting the environment and getting physical exercise, biking also boosts serotonin levels, which is good for my mental and emotional well-being”. He is a member of Socialist Alternative. Jerry Ulibarri is a Mural Artist & Design business owner. His company, Kobolt Studios, located in Franklinton, started as a small art shop providing hand-painted murals and custom faux finishes. Now it's grown and expanded into all aspects of the design world. He's the father of four boys/young men and he bikes to and from work every day. As a kid, Catherine Girves rode a bike for fun with friends, and to get places. Once she turned 15 ½, and got a drivers permit, she didn't ride til she was nearly 40. And then, she needed a bike for transportation, for economic reasons. She's been a year round bike commuter for 15 years now. She's the Executive Director of Yay Bikes!, a non-profit organization helping people lawfully and joyfully get from one place to another by bicycle. The staff and volunteers of Yay Bikes! engage thousands of people annually, teaching folks to ride roads, and advocate for people who ride their bikes for transportation.
