We speak about the common misconceptions surrounding CFS, about taking time away to recover before starting university, being a 'mature' student and the stigma surrounding it. We also speak about George's later diagnosis of autism, how special interests and 'masking' have played into George's life, and how it can impact day to day functioning.About George:George Evans is a composer and electronic musician based in London. He studied electric guitar before pursuing a degree in composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying with Malcolm Singer and Hollie Harding. He will be continuing at Guildhall in 2021, focusing on a Master's degree in Electronic and Produced Music.His current compositional interests include the ambiguity between stasis and movement, the spatialisation of sound, and what it means for music to be immersive. With eight years of experience in automation at big FinTech firms including Apple, Samsung and Nike, George created the first Blockchain experts chamber in the Russian Parliament. He and his team have been actively participating in creating and editing the legal environment for crypto. He is now working on his own cryptocurrency, Karma, and recently raised $10 million to fund his company.   Pivotal Moments: Started his own business at the age of nine and was wowed by the experience of raising his own profits. Opened his company ADV web engineering, a software development company. In 2013 was trying to get a bank loan to grow his business but was turned down because of regulations requiring him to provide collateral worth three times the value of the loan. Realized that there was huge potential to provide lending solutions for SMEs, so founded a peer to peer lending company as a side hustle, reaching a turnover of $5 million by 2017. Developed the company from manual to digital, eventually creating his Karma cryptocurrency. Postpartum psychosis is a sensitive topic that we’ve talked about on the show, but today we are taking a deep dive into the legal ramifications of the journey for a mother. The more we understand, the better foundation we have for advocacy. George Parnham is a soft-spoken attorney who once trained for the priesthood, and was thrust into the national spotlight through representing such high-profile clients as Andrea Yates and Clara Harris. Parnham has practiced law for 43 years in Houston, Texas, specializing in criminal defense. He has become an expert on the defense of individuals with mental illness and a passionate advocate for legal reform of their treatment in the criminal justice system. Parnham is called upon frequently by local and national news media, as well as state bar organizations, to render an opinion on mental health. George has an unmistakable passion and concern for these mothers and their families.
