Jesus the Christ Is Our Hope In Life and Death and He Is “Hope” for the Wave of Loneliness and Uncertainty Sweeping Our World Today   MESSAGE SUMMARY: In Covid-19, we are isolated, both physically and emotionally. The human interaction, which we crave in our worship, business, school, and families is limited or nonexistent. This interaction has given way to fear and a wave of loneliness, uncertainty, and darkness that are sweeping across our world today. Online communications have been helpful, but they are not a replacement for interaction and “hope”. Today, we feel all alone. And we feel that there is no way out – “hopeless”. For “hope' we must turn to Jesus whose birthday we celebrate again this Christmas. “Christmas” reminds us that God is still in the World, and we are reminded that we are not alone! As the Apostle John tells us in John 1:4-5: In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”. In Luke 2:11, the Angels further solidify Jesus as a source of our “hope”, by telling us of God's promise and Grace: “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”. As Paul tells us in 1 Timothy 1:15-16: “The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.". But God did not stop with providing “Christ Our Hope In Life and Death”; Jesus promised the Holy Spirit as a 24/7 “helper” and a “counselor”, in John 16:13,15:26, to all Followers of Jesus: “When the {Holy}Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come . . . But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the {Holy} Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.”. With God's great gift of the Holy Spirit, you are never alone, and we have a never-ending source of “hope” – if you just call out to Him, “Jesus! Jesus!”, in your darkness and loneliness and you have “hope” because “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”. In the great song of “hope”, Christ Our Hope In Life and Death (performed by Keith & Kristyn Getty and Matt Papa), which brings us into the great “hope” that we are given as Followers of Jesus. As a Follower of Jesus, God's great gift of the Holy Spirit provides a reinforcement and “hope” because Christ is here to walk with you through all your loneliness and uncertainties – you are never alone or without “hope”. TODAY'S PRAYER: Keeping the Sabbath, Lord, will require a lot of changes in the way I am living life. Teach me, Lord, how to take the next step with this in a way that fits my unique personality and situation. Help me to trust you with all that will remain unfinished and to enjoy my humble place in your very large world. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 129). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM RIGHTEOUS IN GOD'S EYES. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21. SCRIPTURE REFERENCE (ESV):  John 1:1-18; Luke 2:1-21; John 16:13; John 15;26; Romans 5:8; 1 Timothy 1:15-16; John 3:16-17. A WORD FROM THE LORD WEBSITE: www.AWFTL.org. DONATE TO AWFTL

With God’s great gift of the Holy Spirit, you are never alone, and we have a never-ending source of “hope” – if you just call out to Him, “Jesus! As a Follower of Jesus, God’s great gift of the Holy Spirit provides a reinforcement and “hope” because Christ is here to walk with you through all your loneliness and uncertainties – you are never alone or without “hope”.   TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM RIGHTEOUS IN GOD’S EYES. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21). “Christ Our Hope In Life and Death” by Keith & Kristyn Getty, Matt Papa: Jesus Is “Hope” for a Wave of Loneliness and Uncertainty Sweeping Our World Today MESSAGE SUMMARY: In Covid-19, we are isolated, both physically and emotionally. For “hope" we must turn to Jesus whose birthday we celebrate again this Christmas. As the Apostle John tells us in John 1:4-5: In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”. In Luke 2:11, the Angels further solidify Jesus as a source of our “hope”, by telling us of God’s promise and Grace: “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”. But God did not stop with providing “Christ Our Hope In Life and Death”; Jesus promised the Holy Spirit as a 24/7 “helper” and a “counselor”, in John 16:13,15:26, to all Followers of Jesus: “When the {Holy}Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come . . . In the great song of “hope”, Christ Our Hope In Life and Death performed by Keith & Kristyn Getty and Matt Papa and included in this Devotional, we are brought to the great “hope” for us as Followers of Jesus. The lyrics below, of this included song, provide a reinforcement that Christ is here to walk with you through all your loneliness and uncertainties: Christ Our Hope In Life and Death1,2,3 What is our hope in life and death? Christ alone, Christ alone. What is our only confidence? That our souls to him belong. Who holds our days within his hand? What comes, apart from his command? And what will keep us to the end? The love of Christ, in which we stand. O sing hallelujah! Our hope springs eternal; O sing hallelujah! Now and ever we confess Christ our hope in life and death. What truth can calm the troubled soul? God is good, God is good. Where is his grace and goodness known? In our great Redeemer’s blood. Who holds our faith when fears arise? Who stands above the stormy trial? Who sends the waves that bring us nigh Unto the shore, the rock of Christ? Unto the grave, what shall we sing? “Christ, he lives; Christ, he lives!” And what reward will heaven bring? Everlasting life with him. There we will rise to meet the Lord, Then sin and death will be destroyed, And we will feast in endless joy, When Christ is ours forevermore. ________________________ Words and Music by Keith Getty, Matt Boswell, Jordan Kauflin, Matt Papa, c2020 Getty Music Publishers (BMI)/Messenger Hymns (BMI) /Jordan Kauflin Music (BMI)/ Matthew Merker Music (BMI)/Getty Music Hymns and Songs (ASCAP)/Love Your Enemies Publishing (ASCAP)/adm. at MusicServices.org. Today's episode is a continuation of suicide awareness for the month of September. The question that I have, as well I believe many of us ask, "Is Suicide an Unforgiveable Sin?" Dr. Matthew Stanford does an excellent job in answering this question in his book, "Grace For the Afflicted." He devotes a whole chapter in his book in regards to suicide. Pastor Dan Stevens and I discuss this on today's program. Dr. Stanford opens this chapter noting that suicide is a word that provokes fear, shame, and sadness. He continues to note that some have called suicide "a selfish act" and "a permanent answer to a temporary problem." He continues to explain that both of these statements wrongly imply that suicide is a reasoned and rational decision to take one's life. Since its beginning, the church has struggled with understanding the spiritual consequences of suicide , at times even refusing burial and religious rites to the victims because they were thought to have committed an unforgiven (mortal) sin, damning them to hell. Dr. Stanford notes that suicide is neither reasoned nor rational, and mental illness is the most common cause. So, is suicide an unforgiveable sin and does it affect an individual's eternal destination?Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/SoaringInHealthandWellness)

Once upon a time, there was a young man about to graduate from high school. Knowing his father was a man of means and a man of his word, he hinted that he wanted a sports car as a graduation gift. When the day came, the father presented his son with a beautifully wrapped box. The father was excited as he watched his son examine the box. The son could hardly contain his enthusiasm as he ripped open the paper and opened the box to find… …A beautiful leather-bound Bible. The son was furious. He felt he worked hard and asked for something great, only to receive something he esteemed useless. He threw the Bible on his father’s desk and vowed never to speak to his father again. A promise deferred is a promise denied is what we’re taught to think. Many times, though, the promise is not deferred at all; rather it is that the promise either did not come in the way that we thought or that we misunderstood how to appropriate the promise. But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. (Galatians 3:22) It may surprise you to know what your inheritance really is. Then, again, it may not. What is surprising is how you get it. By Faith. See, we need to understand that there are three parts to the equation. The first is God’s Grace. Grace is getting something good when you deserved something bad. We are all born in sin but God made His grace available through Jesus - because Jesus IS Grace and Truth. Grace is God’s part. He’s done it. It is finished. And it is eternal and everlasting. The second is our faith. Faith is what activates God’s grace in our lives. God has done His part by making the power available. Faith connects His power to our lives. The third is hope. Hope is what puts the power to work. God has provided the power. Faith makes the connection. But it is up to us to flip the switch. One of the things we need to know about an inheritance is that we don’t have to do anything to get it except receive it. It is the testator of the covenant that has either done the work or passed on the wealth. And inheritance has nothing to do with your behavior but it has everything to do with who you’re connected to. One of my favorite examples of this is the character of Tom Hagan, played by Robert Duvall, in “The Godfather.” Hagan was “adopted” into the Corleone family by his relationship with Sonny. Because he was grafted into this family, he was able to act with the power of Don Corleone, himself. We have it even better, we have access to the power of God, The Father, which is far greater than the power of the Godfather! Speaking of inheritance, there is a member of the DuPont family who is at the center of a criminal investigation. By every account, this guy does not seem to be a good person. In fact, the crime he is accused of is child molestation. But, because he is a member of the DuPont family, he has an inheritance. If we had to do anything to earn an inheritance, it would come by law and not by promise (the relationship with God by Grace): For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise. (Galatians 3:18) The rich young ruler had a case of mixed metaphors when he asked “what must I DO to INHERIT eternal life?” (Matthew 18:18) Psalm 37 talks about inheritance by righteousness. To fully partake of the inheritance you must be aware that you have already met the condition of the inheritance because you were made righteous in the New Birth (2 Corinthians 5:21) Our inheritance is even greater, though, than anything earthly. having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from th...
