“When I was a little boy the doctors told my family that I wouldn't be able to walk, run, bike or swim, and would spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair.” Fast forward 20 years and Guy Harrison, 23, from New Zealand, was preparing to play on the G4D Tour in Spain; playing with some confidence after working hard on his game and competing to a high standard – off his 8.3 golf handicap – propelling himself up the Net World Ranking for Golfers with Disability. Guy, who has cerebral palsy, says today: “Golf is my true love – getting out on the course with mates, seeing new places. It was a massive benefit to start golf at a young age so I can enjoy progress in the game. “With the support of my parents we proved the doctors wrong and kept me out of the wheelchair using golf a lot to help me. I started my golf at five years-old going out a couple of times a week with my Dad to a local nine-hole public golf course and it just went from there.” Follow Guy's story in golf today with EDGA.
Staring down the unforgiving path of family law, many men find themselves lost in a labyrinth of legal battles over divorce and child custody. Matt O'Connor joins me once again for a deeply moving conversation that shines a light on the all-too-common plight fathers face. Amid the turmoil, we uncover a vital lifeline—staying put in the family home during separation can be a game-changer in preserving legal rights. Plus, we venture into the complexities of the C100 form and mediation, tools that can make or break a father's quest to remain a pillar in his children's lives. The cold statistics surrounding men's mental health and suicide are not just numbers; they're a call to action. Sharing my own brush with despair atop Waterloo Bridge, this episode serves as both a confessional and a clarion call for societal change. We tackle the stigma and urge for a champion in parliament, someone to advocate for men's rights and address the systemic biases that leave many fathers feeling marginalized. It's a heart-wrenching journey through the emotional battleground fathers endure, and a testament to the resilience it takes to emerge from the shadows.Yet, in the face of such gravity, there's room for unexpected levity. Guy Harrison's legendary powder bombing caper offers a moment of reprieve, reminding us of the camaraderie and boldness that once punctuated our lives. This episode is a tapestry of serious discourse interwoven with nostalgia, an offering of hope and solidarity to any man navigating the treacherous waters of family law. Tune in for a conversation that's as enlightening as it is emotionally resonant, and perhaps, find a beacon to guide you through the storm. >>>>>>>NEW 5 week Heroic Man course & online community (no charge, it's on us) Join Here How Heroic are you? Rob and Michelle talk about how our brains are actively working against us when consuming media of all kinds, but we're particularly vulnerable on social media. Our brains are lazy and not necessarily equipped for quick critical thinking. It's important to know how our social media feeds work against us on purpose so we can work to counter it's effects. Materials discussed in this episode are The Social Dilemma (a documentary available on Netflix), "You are Not a Gadget" by Jaron Lanier and "Think Before You Like" by Guy Harrison. Show notes on our blog! Join in on the next episode where we will talk about our next book club pick, Gunsmoke and Trail Dust by Bliss Lomax, found on hoopla. In a recent piece for Psychology Today he wrote, "In the coming months, an avalanche of pandemic-related fantasies, lies, and medical fraud will continue to swarm the globe. There will be no limit to the absurdity and cruelty of bad information coming. Prepare to think well or prepare to be a victim, because poor thinking skills can cost you time, money, dignity, good health, maybe even your life." Harrison is our guest for the hour. Blockchain technology won’t replace the need for databases; however, it will strengthen cybersecurity by introducing a layer of trust that mitigates internal threats, malware, and other concerns. In this Gossip About Gossip episode, Hedera’s Paul Madsen and Cooper Kunz are joined by Guy Harrison. Guy is CTO of ProvenDB, a database professional, and author. Here are some blockchain applications and use cases that ProvenDB make possible: Prove ownership of intellectual property Prove timestamps for legal instruments Prove that records have not been falsified or tampered with Create a log of all document changes There is no doubt that the proof of work algorithm was a breakthrough technology. We are now witnessing the limits of this distributed ledger technology as it cannot realistically scale without harmful effects. Listen to the entire podcast and learn why anchoring digital proofs in databases are the new fingerprint. You can find ProvenDB at https://www.provendb.com/.

"We Should Be Prepared To Kill Aliens"--Scientist Guy Harrison Link: https://www.barstoolsports.com/chicago/we-should-be-prepared-to-kill-aliens-scientist-guy-harrison Scientists often kill animals — that's just a grisly fact of biological research. But it's a bit more complicated in the theoretical future where we've made first contact with extraterrestrial life. At that point, science author Guy Harrison argues in a Psychology Today op-ed that biologists may have to come to terms with killing alien life in the name of scientific progress — which raises a difficult question: at what point does scientific inquiry outweigh the value of life? Harrison suggests guidelines that future biologists may find helpful. For instance, any extraterrestrial life that shows signs of intelligence ought to be spared. In that case, we may be able to learn about the alien lifeform by using our words instead of our scalpels. Which, if you ask me, makes this Guy Harrison dude…a fucking PSYCHOPATH. “Hey everyone….DIBS on cutting open the first alien we find. I am mentally prepared to do that. Even wrote an op-ed, so yeah…get in line”. Like hey man, why don't you just chill out? There's no need to tell everyone that you're blood thirsty for things that we don't even have confirmation if they exist or not. Nobody needs to be “prepared” for that event. If we have to kill them in a space war, so be it. If we find some other alien life form that we are smarter than then maybe, just maybe, we should let them be. We don't need to kill everything we find. Just this once let's take a different approach. And Dr Harrison…if you're not already cutting open aliens, then you're not going to be the one the government calls to cut open the new aliens. That is a fact. Conservative Party of Canada leader Andrew Scheer joins us. Issues: G20. Canada/China relations. Is the Ministry of Defence agreement with departing vice-Admiral Mark Norman an non-disclosure agreement, or is it not? DND will not confirm an NDA exists, but declares the agreement to be confidential. Huh? Western Premiers meeting. CPC climate change plan. Ontario court split-decision support that Trudeau gov may impose carbon tax on the province. This week we found out Admiral Mark Norman negotiated an exit deal from the CAF which now may or may not be a non-disclosure-agreement, according to DND/Ministry of National Defence. Refuse to define the agreement as an NDA, but argue the contents are confidential. Trudeau refuses to explain at G20. Canadian taxpayers will pay, but find out nothing(?) about what was negotiated and will the Admiral be free to share with Canadians what he experienced during the public shaming and cruelty he and his family experienced? Will we ever find out what the entire false attack on Admiral Norman cost taxpayers, or is that confidential as well? At the core of the Admiral Norman case is The MV Asterix. Purchased by : Federal Fleet Services (a sister company to Davie Shipbuilding) Asterix was a commercial container ship converted into a Canadian Navy supply ship and brought in on time and on budget. The ship is doing tremendous service for the RCN. We find out about the MV Asterix which remains owned by Federal Fleet Services and is leased to the RCN for 10 years. Then, Guy Harrison visits Skepticality, once again, to talk about his new skeptic focused book, 'Think', which aims to give rational thinkers a set of tools to help talk to, and work alongside, those who hold dubious beliefs.
"Why does all my money have to say 'In God We Trust'?" This week we challenge the motto on U.S. currency as well as on license plates. We hear a young Ellery Schempp in 1963 being interviewed by Eric Sevareid on CBS News about the historic Abington v. Schempp decision by the Supreme Court outlawing bible reading in public schools. Then we talk with Guy P. Harrison, author of the book, 50 Simple Questions for Every Christian.
This week on Skepticality, Derek interviews Guy Harrison about his latest book, 50 Popular Beliefs That People Think Are True, a guide to help steer people away from bogus pseudoscience by offering alternative explanations to commonly held unfounded beliefs. Derek also sits down with the founders of the website The Odds Must Be Crazy, a site which highlights extraordinary stories submitted by people who claim to have experienced the supernatural (yet these experiences have perfectly natural explanations).
