Com roteiro de Fabcaro e desenhos de Didier Conrad, a aventura lusitana mistura humor, crítica social e uma homenagem ao herói Viriato, símbolo da resistência contra Roma. Os autores falaram à RFI sobre bastidores, criação e o fenômeno cultural dos "irredutíveis gauleses" que atravessa gerações em todo o planeta. A aventura portuguesa foi traduzida para 19 línguas e dialetos. Astérix e Obélix estão de malas prontas para sua 25ª viagem e o destino da vez é a Lusitânia, atual Portugal. O 41º álbum da série, com tiragem inicial de 5 milhões de exemplares, marca a estreia dos gauleses em terras lusitanas. O roteiro é assinado por Fabcaro (Fabrice Caro), em sua segunda participação na franquia, e os desenhos são de Didier Conrad, veterano que já soma sete álbuns da saga. A escolha de Portugal não foi aleatória. “Eles já viajaram bastante, e percebi que nunca tinham ido à Lusitânia. Logisticamente, faz sentido: é perto da Gália, da Bretanha. Propus ao editor e ele disse: ‘Vai fundo, essa ideia está circulando há tempos, mas ninguém quis ainda encampar'”, conta Fabcaro. Para Didier Conrad, a ambientação exigiu pesquisa e sensibilidade. “Já tinha estado lá [em Portugal], molhado os pés daquele lado do Atlântico. É um lugar que vi e senti. Depois, é só trabalhar”, diz, com a leveza de quem domina o traço, mas reconhece o peso da responsabilidade. Astérix como "jazz": variações sobre temas  A criação de um novo álbum exige respeito à tradição e inovação constante. “Há passagens obrigatórias que o leitor espera. Mesmo as ideias novas precisam manter uma continuidade. Os romanos apanham, mas não pode ser a mesma briga da última vez”, explica Conrad. “É como jazz: variações sobre temas que as pessoas adoram.” O vilão da vez é Pirespèce ("da pior espécie", em tradução livre), um lusitano ardiloso, herdeiro da traição que marcou a história de Viriato, um líder militar lusitano do século II a.C., pastor de origem humilde que uniu tribos ibéricas contra a ocupação romana. Traído por aliados, foi assassinado em 139 a.C. e permanece como herói nacional em Portugal. “Imaginei que Pirespèce fosse descendente dos traidores de Viriato. Um personagem mais traiçoeiro do que malvado”, diz Fabcaro. “Didier o desenhou com um ar dissimulado, perverso.” "Goscinny e Uderzo criaram personagens que são geniais", diz o roteirista. "Eu não sinto que estou trabalhando. Eu não deveria dizer isso, porque senão eles não vão me pagar [risos]. Eu sou como uma criança que recebe brinquedos de luxo e dizem: 'agora divirta-se'", brinca Fabcaro. Além disso, os álbuns funcionam como retratos da época em que são lançados. “Sob o disfarce da antiguidade, falamos de temas contemporâneos. Neste, temos dois gauleses velhos que reclamam da reforma da previdência. São verdadeiros gauleses”, brinca o roteirista. A viagem à Lusitânia também permite uma crítica bem-humorada ao comportamento dos turistas franceses. “A figura do francês no exterior me fascina. Somos horríveis como turistas. Quis mostrar dois gauleses de férias reclamando de tudo, inclusive porque não se fala francês fora da França”, ironiza Fabcaro. Obélix, por exemplo, não se adapta à gastronomia local. “Está no país do bacalhau, mas sente falta dos javalis”, ri Conrad. Para o veículo, Astérix teria se tornado mais "uma marca comercial" do que um "herói de aventuras". Já o Jornal de Notícias adotou um tom mais equilibrado, reconhecendo que o álbum provoca “sentimentos contraditórios” e elogiando os jogos de palavras e referências culturais, como o uso da interjeição “ó pá!”, os provérbios lusitanos e as alusões a figuras como Ronaldo e Amália Rodrigues. Apesar de considerar a história menos provocativa que a anterior (O Lírio Branco, de 2023), o jornal valorizou o esforço de aproximação com o imaginário português.

Ausgedacht haben sich das Ganze der Zeichner Didier Conrad und der neue Texter Fabrice Caro, die schon vor zwei Jahren mit „Die Weiße Iris“ einen enormen Erfolg gelandet haben. Es ist schon erstaunlich: Warum faszinieren Comic-Geschichten aus der Zeit der alten Römer die Menschen in der Gegenwart so sehr? Aber ohne Asterix - und Obelix - und Idefix - und die ix-anderen (und niemals ix-beliebigen) Menschen aus dem gallischen Dorf wäre die Comic-Welt eine andere. Und eine ärmere. Was der Texter René Goscinny und der Zeichner Albert Uderzo vor mehr als 65 Jahren geschaffen haben, das ist so wie beide Urteile über den Sänger Troubadix in einem: Hochgenial UND unbeschreiblich. Und weil den beiden genialen Vätern inzwischen kongeniale Menschen nachgefolgt sind, ist den Galliern Asterix und Obelix noch immer nicht der Himmel auf den Kopf gefallen. Nein: Ihr bereits 41. Band ist fertig! Aber so wie ihr gallisches Dorf von Laudanum, Kleinbonum und den anderen römischen Lagern umzingelt ist, so müssen sich auch die Geschichten über dieses Dorf immer wieder zwischen anderen kreativen Comics behaupten. Wenn heute der 41. Asterix-Band "Asterix in Lusitanien" erscheint, ist die Arbeit von Klaus Jöken getan. Er übersetzt seit 2004 die Comicreihe aus dem Französischen – und schränkt ein: "Man kann Asterix nicht übersetzen, man muss das adaptieren". Wie er die Wortspiele überträgt und teils Gags völlig neu erfindet – und wie die Autoren das finden – erzählt er bei SWR-Aktuell-Moderator Stefan Eich. Und er erklärt, warum er den neuen Band für einen der besten seit den Klassikern von Goscinny und Uderzó hält.

This week on Play Comics, we're trading our Roman shields for DualShock controllers as we dive headfirst into the digital disaster that is Asterix & Obelix Kick Buttix for PS2 and Xbox – because apparently someone at Étranges Libellules thought the best way to honor René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo's beloved comic masterpiece was to trap our favorite mustachioed warriors in a 3D brawler with combat mechanics more repetitive than Obelix's “These Romans are crazy!” catchphrase. Released in 2003 as Asterix & Obelix XXL in Europe before getting the wonderfully ridiculous “Kick Buttix” rebrand for American audiences, this licensed adventure promised players the chance to experience authentic Gallic village life while punching approximately 70 Romans per level across 40 different stages of cartoon chaos. What it actually delivered was a gaming experience so mindlessly button-mashy that even Caesar would file a complaint with customer service about the repetitive gameplay loop. Joining us for this Roman-bashing bonanza is the incomparable Chas! Pangburn – a man who when he's not busy lettering the actual Asterix comics from the depths of his creative dungeon, brings his insider knowledge of what makes these characters tick both on the page and in polygonal form. His expertise in both the source material and the art of comic creation makes him the perfect guide through this particular journey from panel to PlayStation. So grab your magic potion and prepare for an episode that's more entertaining than actually grinding through the same three enemy types for hours on end – which, let's face it, isn't exactly setting the bar at Vercingétorix levels.
