Tucked away in Brookshire, Texas stands a temple to American automotive culture that defies expectations. This week, we broadcast live from HEMI Hideout, where owner John Hovis welcomes us into what he modestly describes as "a man cave that got a little bit out of control."The result is breathtaking – over 4,500 pieces of rare automotive memorabilia and signage covering nearly every available surface, alongside a meticulously curated collection of classic Mopar muscle cars. Walking through HEMI Hideout feels like stepping into a time capsule, with neon and porcelain signs dating back to the early 1900s creating a dazzling backdrop for Detroit's finest horsepower machines.John shares fascinating stories about his collection process, revealing that only 7% of his 324 neon signs are actually illuminated – an optical illusion that makes the space feel even more vibrant and alive. The wooden interior siding carries its own history, salvaged from his grandparents' two-story dry goods store built in Brookshire during the late 1800s.The automotive highlights are equally impressive, from an 880-horsepower 1968 Dodge Charger to a 750-horsepower 1969 Plymouth Roadrunner. John's collecting philosophy is refreshingly practical: "Buy these cars already done – you can do this yourself and then it's worth half what you spent." Each vehicle has a personality, including a 1970 Dodge Charger RT nicknamed "Nadine" that John describes as "possessed," keeping a wrecker on speed dial whenever he takes it out.Despite the seemingly packed spaces, John reveals the collection continues growing, with several significant signs added just months before our visit. "It looks full," he notes with a collector's gleam in his eye, "but it's never going to be full." For anyone who appreciates American muscle, vintage advertising, or simply the passion of dedicated collectors, HEMI Hideout represents something truly special – a living museum where the rumble of V8 engines meets tBe sure to subscribe for more In Wheel Time Car Talk! The Lupe' Tortilla RestaurantsLupe Tortilla in Katy, Texas Gulf Coast Auto ShieldPaint protection, tint, and more!ProAm Auto AccessoriesProAm Auto Accessories: "THE" place to go to find exclusive and hard to find parts and accessories!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. The rumble of Hemi engines echoes through the cavernous space of the Fabuloso Hemi Hideout in Brookshire, Texas as we explore one of America's most impressive Mopar collections. John Hovis began his automotive journey at 18 years old in 1970, explaining his special affinity for vehicles from that iconic year - and what a collection he's assembled! From the moment we step inside, we're surrounded by automotive royalty. The banana yellow 1970 Dodge Superbee with its 440 six-pack engine represents just one of 599 ever built with matching numbers. But that's just the beginning. The 1970 Plymouth Superbird, with its distinctive aerodynamic nose and towering rear spoiler, tells the story of how Mopar changed NASCAR forever before the design was ultimately banned for being too dominant on the track. The crown jewel might be John's personal favorite: a sublime pearl green 1971 Plymouth Cuda boasting a monstrous 528 cubic inch all-aluminum Hemi V8 generating 739 horsepower. With its pistol grip shifter and Pro Street setup with massive 22-inch rear tires, it represents the perfect marriage of classic muscle car aesthetics and modern performance engineering. Some vehicles here have remarkable histories, like the 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner convertible that was stolen and spent 25 years submerged underwater before being recovered and meticulously restored. As one of only two examples in its specific color combination, it's a testament to preservation against impossible odds.Beyond the cars themselves, the Hemi Hideout creates the perfect atmosphere with walls adorned with neon signs and automotive memorabilia that transport you to a bygone era of American muscle. Your admission fee supports charitable causes too - John doubles every donation made through visitor entries.Want to experience American automotive history in its most visceral form? Broadcasting from John Hovis's legendary Hemi Hideout in Brookshire, Texas, we invite listeners into a wonderland of automotive memorabilia, rare Mopar muscle, and glowing neon signs. This special venue has transformed dramatically since opening a decade ago, now serving as both museum and gathering place for car enthusiasts. Today's open house welcomes visitors with breakfast tacos, camaraderie, and the opportunity to support local charities through matched donations. Our automotive journey begins with a fascinating look at the 1971 Plymouth GTX – perhaps the most criminally overlooked muscle car of the Mopar golden era. This sleek fastback with coke-bottle curves arrived just as muscle car mania began cooling, resulting in just 2,900 sales despite its impressive 440 cubic inch V8 engine options. The rarest configuration – just 326 examples with the 440 Plus 6 and four-speed manual – now commands upwards of $166,000 at auction, demonstrating how collectors have finally recognized this hidden gem.We also dive deep into the completely redesigned 2025 Infiniti QX80 Autograph, a luxury behemoth assembled in America that competes directly with Escalade, Navigator, and Grand Wagoneer. Beyond its imposing presence and twin-turbo V6 producing 450 horsepower, this seven-passenger SUV pampers occupants with heated, ventilated, and massaging seats in both first and second rows. At $113,965 fully loaded (yes, including that much-discussed $355 umbrella holder), it represents Infiniti's flagship offering in the increasingly competitive premium SUV space.Whether you're fascinated by forgotten muscle cars, curious about modern luxury SUVs, or simply enjoy immersing yourself in automotive culture, join us for this unique broadcast from one of Texas's most extraordinary automotive destinations. Dustin Brookshire has gathered an impressive array of poetic emulations in When I Was Straight: A Tribute to Maureen Seaton. They include free verse gestures, couplets, tercets, and prose poems. Maureen's influence shines, though is never blinding—each of the poets in this anthology takes her title and makes the poem that follows their own. (From the forward by Denise Duhamel)We read poems from: Kelli Russell Agodon, Sarah Cooper, Aaron DeLee, Caridad Moro-Gronlier, Diamond Forde, and Addie Tsai.Dustin Brookshire (he/him) is the author of the forthcoming chapbook Repeat As Needed (Harbor Editions, 2025) and the chapbooks Never Picked First For Playtime (Harbor Editions, 2023), Love Most Of You Too (Harbor Editions, 2021) and To T he One Who Raped Me (Sibling Rivalry Press, 2012). Love Most Of You Too and Never Picked First For Playtime were finalists in the Poetry Chapbook category of the American Book Fest's Best Book Awards in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Poet Maureen Seaton earned an MFA from Vermont College in 1996. She is the author of the poetry collections Fear of Subways (1991), winner of the Eighth Mountain Poetry Prize; The Sea Among the Cupboards (1992); Furious Cooking (1996), winner of both the Iowa Poetry Prize and a Lambda Literary Award; Little Ice Age (2001); Venus Examines Her Breast (2004), winner of the Publishing Triangle's Audre Lorde Award; and Cave of the Yellow Volkswagen (2009).Using collage techniques to create delight and dissonance, Seaton's poetry has been described as unusual, compressed, and surrealistic. Seaton has explored the possibilities of collaboration throughout her career, writing poetry with Denise Duhamel in such collections as Exquisite Politics (1997), Oyl (2000), and Little Novels (2002). She also collaborated with Samuel Ace on Stealth (2011) and with Neil de la Flor on Sinead O'Connor and Her Coat of a Thousand Bluebirds (2011). Seaton, Duhamel, and David Trinidad edited an anthology titled Saints of Hysteria: A Half-Century of Collaborative American Poetry (2007).Seaton is author of the Lambda Literary Award–winning memoir Sex Talks to Girls (2008), in which she addresses motherhood, sobriety, and sexuality. Former Bad Boy executive Dr. LaJoyce Brookshire has spoken out about Sean "Diddy" Combs' notorious parties, revealing a troubling environment. Brookshire, who worked closely with Diddy at his label, described the parties as unsafe, particularly after a certain hour when excessive drinking and drug use began to dominate. She claimed that once the night progressed, safety measures became virtually nonexistent, and the parties often spiraled into risky, nonconsensual situations. Brookshire also highlighted that while these gatherings started with consenting adults, the later hours often saw a blurring of boundaries, creating a highly unsafe atmosphere. In this episode, we take take a look at what she has to say about the arrest and the infamous parties.(commercial at 7:51)to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:'There was no safety': Former Bad Boy exec gives shocking insight into Diddy's infamous parties | Daily Mail OnlineBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

Why Networking and Ethics Drive Success with Jerry Brookshire

Have you ever thought about how competitors can also be your biggest allies? In a world driven by competition, the National Association of Steel Pipe Distributors (NASPD) does things differently. According to President Jerry Brookshire, the NASPD isn't just a professional group—it's a close-knit community built on trust and long-term relationships. Jerry emphasizes that, despite being a nationwide industry, the steel pipe world feels small because of the shared commitment to ethical practices and mutual support among its members. “We all compete, but we also help each other,” he says. Networking in the NASPD transcends the traditional exchange of business cards; it's about forging genuine connections with people who share your values and standards. This approach fosters a unique environment where collaboration thrives alongside competition, benefiting everyone involved. Membership in NASPD is selective, ensuring that each distributor, service provider, or industry partner upholds the highest ethical standards. This selective nature contributes to the value of being part of NASPD, as it's not merely about competing for market share but about advancing the industry together through shared insights and support. The association's conferences are a prime example of this philosophy in action. These events not only offer opportunities for networking and education but also serve as platforms for members to engage in meaningful conversations about industry trends and challenges. Beyond the business side, these gatherings nurture personal connections that fortify the community and create a collaborative spirit. For those intrigued by the prospect, attending as a guest before committing to membership allows for a firsthand experience of the NASPD's unique environment. Some of the upcoming Events: Kansas City Conference: September 18th - 22nd 50th Anniversary in San Antonio: February 19th - 22nd 2025 Vancouver & Charleston in Summer and Fall of 2025! For businesses dedicated to long-term success, joining NASPD represents more than just a membership; it's an investment in both your business and the broader industry, creating a foundation for sustained growth and partnership. We might say climate change is coming for us. But really, it's here. Fires are worse in hotter, drier conditions. Hurricanes are powered up supersoaking storms. Even tides are now rising into the streets and the beautiful oceanfront property we always wanted isn't looking so good. It's easy to feel despair, because no one individual thing will solve this problem. But where individuals will collapse, communities can build. This week we're talking with Madeline Ostrander about her book, At Home on an Unruly Planet: Finding refuge on a changed earth.

He recounts tales of tallying roadkill, scooping up stranded frogs, and visiting the roadkill capital of the world. Along with discussing the problems wrought by roads, Ben shares how efforts to help animals, such as wildlife crossings, have fared. And we talk about what roads reveal about people and our societies.

We all know that climate change is coming for us. It's already here. But it's really, really hard to change people's actions, especially when those actions don't benefit the here and now, but matter most for the future. They require long views of time, the ability to not just imagine, but to care about people in the future. Why don't we do that now, and how do we get there? We're talking with Richard Fisher, author of The Long View: Why We Need to Transform How the World Sees Time.

Ice is one of those invisible little gears of the modern, westernized world. We don't notice it when we have it, and as soon as we can't get it we find ourselves desperate to get it back. It wasn't always like this: ice started as a luxury of more northern climates, and the story of how it became more ubiquitous -- including in southern climates where natural ice is rare to non-existant -- is a fascinating one. We speak to writer and author Amy Brady about her new book "Ice: From Mixed Drinks to Skating Rinks - a Cool History...
