Last week we missed Kohl as he was off on grand adventures racing motorcycles in the High Plains of Colorado!! Legion Superbike, a brand new traveling race series based in Colorado held their "last" round at High Plains Raceway and Kohl was out there to check it out. So if you're looking to hear all about his experience and being High in the Plains while racing motorcycles this is the episode for you!!! Beyond just Kohls' awesome weekend we did have another week in a row of Moto GP racing, and since we didn't cover MotoGP last week, we had a lot to catch up on!! When we say a lot to catch up on, we're mostly talking about all the drama that has occurred over the last two weeks. A certain rider has, after quite a period of drought, found him self back on the top and won not just 1 but 2 races in a row now! This "new" success from Marquez has struck some chords across the paddock and is of course all the talk. But hidden in the background is just the simple drama of two very talented Ducati riders continuing to hand the championship lead back and forth between them! So make sure you stick around for the entire episode, there is a lot to unwrap this week!! https://www.bittingermotorsports.com/ (Weekly Tip: Sorting Fact from Fiction) MotoGP Fantasy League Code: CVYZ2MY7 (log onto MotoGP Fantasy and enter code or search JKMoto Podcast) https://fantasy.motogp.com/

GHiT 0471: Zach Caldwell Live from the Vannonball Great American Bro'd Trip Zach Caldwell calls in live for GingerMan raceway from his fourth straight race weekend in the race van to conclude the 2023 Great American Vannonball Bro'd Trip. Why race in a minivan? Why race 4 weekends in a row? Why a 2006 Dodge Caravan is the world's greatest race car? How tired can one person be? All this and more in this one. Bill has some terrible ideas brewing. In summary, the Great American Bro'd trip started off in Detroit and after 2,100 miles race 1 at Thunder Hill. A swift and easy 700 miles to High Plains Raceway. A few gallons of gas and 1,700 miles to NJMP Thunderbolt. And a final leg to a surprising entry to GingerMan raceway. To get back home after this, it was only 350 miles that took around 12 fatigue induced hours, lol. For episode 81 of the Flatirons Syndicate Motorsports Podcast, Ryan, Tasso, Scotty, and Jon talk about Pikes Peak, Running lemons, and we have a big announcement! As we sat down to record this, Tasso and Ryan had just both driven in the Lemons race at High Plains Raceway a few days before. They were in different cars and on different teams, so there was a lot to discuss. But we were also in the middle of testing on Pikes Peak for the 100th running of the Hill Climb. To start the conversation, we talk about how unique the challenge of running up Pikes Peak is, and about how testing is going for us so far in 2022. Dussex and Tasso then have a very detailed discussion about endurance racing, and their Lemons experience. And stick around to the end, because we have a big announcement about the future of the Podcast, and the content that Flatirons Tuning creates. Thanks for listening and Stay Tuned!
Jon, Ryan from DSX Motorsports, and Scotty sit down to have a conversation about how limited slip differentials have become the new key for faster lap times in the Colorado Crew. We then talk about the local tracks, High Plains Raceway and La Junta, and how walking the track, and getting to know all of the details and subtleties of a track are key for going faster. And last but not least, we discuss the rumor that the WRC may be making a return to the US next year, and one of the rumored locations is in Colorado and Utah! Thanks for listening and Stay Tuned!
Jon, Ryan and Scotty sit down to talk about how the last NASA Rocky Mountain event went at High Plains Raceway. When you are building a car to compete in a specific class, it is natural that your focus would be the cars and drivers that you are competing against. What Scotty and Ryan discovered was that sometimes taking a look at what is going on in other similar classes can be enlightening, too. That change of perspective can give you some ideas of new things to try as well as new benchmarks for how competitive your car actually is. Scotty and Ryan are usually focused on the NASA Time Trials classes, but the classes that got their attention this weekend were GTS2 (German Touring Sedan) and GTS3. These are typically BMWs that have lower power-to-weight limits in their class (14:1 in GTS2, 10:1 in TT3) and these cars race wheel-to-wheel. There is no guarantee that they will even get a clean lap. But with all that, those cars would dominate the class they would fit in for Time Trials. This led to two important realizations: First, that it can really help to run a car in a class where there is a clearly tried and tested upgrade path, with parts that are known to be effective, and second, that sometimes your brakes are just slowing you down. Thanks for listening! And thank you for your support. We hope you enjoy this episode, and #staytuned.
For episode #42 of the Flatirons Syndicate Motorsports Podcast, Jon, Scotty and Dussex have a chat about some of their recent trips to the track. First, we had just taken the Pikes Peak car to High Plains Raceway for the first time it far to long to shake it down, and get a sense of how much (if any) we had improved the car in terms of cooling and handling. The day didn't exactly go to plan, but we did learn some really important things. One of the main ones being that a lot of the small things that you can do to make the car better, can make the car a lot faster. Then, Scotty is in the process of re-building his engine after having a catastrophic engine failure. At this point, he is just starting to piece the car back together again, and he is in the middle of the decision process of what he can and can't re-use. This coupled with balancing the wants and needs that you have to get an engine back together, and a budget that was not prepared for that level of a failure makes for a lot of tough choices, and we dive into that. And at the end, we break down how much progress we have really made with the Pikes Peak car, and try to bring a little context to what those improvements amount to. It turns out that making a lot of small improvements and not jumping down the obvious path of more power has landed us in a place where a seemingly unattainable lap time might just be attainable? Thanks for listening and Stay Tuned!
We took the Pike's Peak car to High Plains Raceway for a shakedown. The day didn't exactly go to plan, but we did learn some really important things. For episode 11 of the Flatirons Syndicate Podcast, we are sitting down with Ryan from DSX Motorsports and Jeanette from Red Queen Racing, and we are talking right as things are starting to shut down, and events are starting to be canceled. For the first part of this Episode, Both Scotty and Viet were out at High Plains Raceway the previous weekend, and we have a good discussion about what each of their experience at the track. Viet had made the biggest change of putting in a Cusco 1-Way differential into his Civic Race Car, and we talk about that. This was now Scotty's second time on track with his car after all the work he put in, and we go into detail about that as well. I will say that we do talk about some of the corners at High Plains in some detail in this section, and if you are not familiar with the track, or that is a little too specific for you, please feel free to skip ahead to the second part of the conversation. For the second chunk of our conversation, we brainstorm about what you can do if you are stuck at home to stay in touch with Motorsports, and your passion for cars. There are a lot of Youtube channels that we talk about, as well as some racing series that you may have heard about before, but never actually watched. This is the perfect opportunity to go back and dive into some of those series! And we also dive into what video games we like, and how playing them can help keep your mind focused on driving, and can fill in for the real thing to an extent now that it looks like we will have to wait for a bit to head back out to the track. I hope you enjoy this episode, and as always, Stay Tuned with Flatirons Tuning.
On this week’s episode of Speed Secrets Podcast, Bryce Kliewer joins me as we go in depth about the lessons learned from racing that apply to business – and vice versa. We also touch on how autocross teaches car control, and compare autocross to time trials to road racing! Bryce’s speed secret: No one wins a championship alone. Bryce’s ran the Analytics and Business Intelligence at Coldwater Creek, helping to double the size of the business up to a $1b retailer, through catalog, web sales and the opening of over 350 retail locations. He was the VP of Client Analytics and Operations at Datalogix (a small ad-tech company looking to improve how data is used to make advertising more effective) before it was acquired by Oracle. He now is the VP Enterprise Project Management Office at Oracle as part of the Oracle Data Cloud. Bryce started out getting his feet wet with local autocross driving a Subaru WRX bugeye wagon, winning multiple local class championships in STX and several top 5 season PAX driver awards. He switched to something rear-wheel drive and acquired a pretty haggard 2003 BMW 330 which he used to win multiple Rocky Mountain SCCA STX class championships and BMW CCA class championships, as well as winning the SCCA Mountain Match Tour Club Shootout. Bryce eventually found his way to the racetrack and over time gutted and caged the BMW 330 for time trials through NASA (built and sponsored by SCR Performance out of Loveland, CO). He used this car to set track records in multiple classes (TTD, TTC, TT5) over the past several seasons at various tracks (Circuit of the Americas, Thunderhill Raceway, High Plains Raceway, Hallet Motorsport, Utah Motorsport Complex, Pueblo Motorsports Park, Motorsports Park Hastings, Pikes Peak International Raceway, La Junta Raceway (some more prestigious than others...)). This culminated in winning the NASA TTC West Coast championships in 2017 (uncontested) and the 2018 NASA National Championships in TT5 at COTA.
Welcome to another episode of The Reserve Tank presented by Progressive. We will discuss how you can be a better road rider, and how to approach the topic of motorcycle education, because at the end of the day we all can learn something new no matter our skill level. Featuring co-host Robert Pandya, the host of our sister show, Centerstand: A motorcycle industry podcast, which dives into the business of the motorcycle industry, and how industry leaders can positively affect change. Our guest is a legendary motorcycle instructor, author, and former Pro AMA racer, Nick Ienatsch. He's also the founder and lead instructor at Yamaha Champions Riding School and strong advocate for all riders that learning how to ride never ends. Key Takeaways: 1. What's stopping motorcyclists from continuing to learn to ride? 2. How can the Yamaha Champions School expand an MSF graduate's rider education? 3. Is there an unfounded fear amongst motorcyclists about track days or going to a track that we can dispel? Yamaha Champions Riding School (YCRS) launched in 2008 at Miller Motorsports Park. YCRS 2.0 launched in 2013 at New Jersey Motorsports Park and still operates there, as well as Inde Motorsports Ranch. Episode 212 In this episode, Ian once again beams in to the blanket fort for our usual discussion. This time we're treated to envisioning Ian as the prophet that he is, traveling the land and preaching the good word of burnouts to the masses. It's difficult work, but someone has to do it. Lastly, we end the episode on a somber note as we discuss another loss that we've had in the automotive community, our friend Tanner Bell. We met Tanner at a SCCA track night at High Plains Raceway and he was always had a great big smile every time we interacted with him after that. We're really thankful to have shared some time and witnessed your happiness, and we're honored to have met your wife Natalie and your son Jenson. If anyone reading this is able to help, please head over to Natalie and Jenson's GoFundMe page here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/rally-for-natalie-amp-jenson-bell . Dr. Steve Olsen joins me to talk about the Corvette Challenge Club, the importance of managing one’s state of mind – particularly being calm – and the NuCalm system (www.nucalm.com). Steve purchased a Corvette when he turned 50 (the first time that ever happened!), and has been tracking ever since. In fact, he has more open track day laps at High Plains Raceway in Denver than anyone else. Recently, he and a partner founded the Corvette Challenge Club, and as a dentist he worked with using NuCalm to help his patients – and found that it helps drivers perform better. It might come as a slight surprise that I've never been to that great racetrack out in the actual sticks. Nestled far in Byers, Colorado, this racetrack hosts quite a few events. This one? Was put on by Ignite Performance. And it was my first time at such an event. Accompanied by my good friends, William Taylor (of Auto-Archives) and Sara Bain (Office and Events Assistant Manager at the Hagerty office in Golden, Colorado), we spent the day doing all the things you do at a racetrack... Episode 84-Vrooooom! TeamClearCoat is capable of delivering surprises from time to time. Today, we're surprising everyone with a new website, which contains a few easter eggs. Other surprises include how well Dave's car takes that one corner at High Plains Raceway, and that we have to wrap this up due to Legitimate Automotive Journalism Pursuits. Totally not surprising is that the Trump administration is crippling the EPA, Ian ran himself nearly out of gas at the track, and oh man we REALLY need to wrap this up. We love you, thank you, sorry!
