What's the point of training, Why don't we just ride our bikes to get fit? From experience coaching master cyclists and myself using the methods I'm just about to talk about they are all stronger, faster better climbers than anyone who "Just rides their bikes"If you want to improve your average speed over longer distances and climb hills faster stay tunedMy core focus in my own training and the cyclists I coach is to Grow strengthIncrease Vo2 Max Increase lactate Threshold Increase Lactate ClearanceDevelop an aerobic engine to go faster with less effort All this is possible as we age. You know that to be true because there are master cyclists out there still smashing in exceptional times in sportives, Time Trials and cracking out stunning PB's on KOMSOne thing is for sure older cyclists who stay fast and strong up hills are not JUST RIDING their bikes week in and week out they are being focused, specific and consistent In this episode, I talk about the training that got me fast and give examples of sessions that helped me stay fast up hills. I'm trying a new shorter format. I hope you like it.

Toby Weber started competing in Autocross events in 2014 in a Lotus 7 and has grown his motorsports endeavors to include track days, time trials and wheel to wheel racing.  He also  works with Xtreme Xperience as an instructor.Toby has had a stellar 2023 season including a first place in class at the 14 hour enduro at Nelson Ledges Road Course.  In 2024 he plans to continue competing in the OPTT time trials, continuing with endurance racing, and working with Xtreme Xperience.  Toby once thought that motorsports was only for people with money.  It's important for everyone to understand that motorsports is open to everyone, regardless of money and it's great that Toby got involved as he's an asset to our sport. When it comes to advice, Toby highlights that seat time is important and people should just go out and try it to see if it's something they want to do.  A big take-a-way he had from this season is to only change one item on your car at a time.  Too many changes means that you can't pinpoint what worked and what didn't.Connect and Follow Toby:FacebookYouTubeInstagramLooking for track day tires?  Bill can save you some money!  The Continental ExtremeContact Force 200 is the tire everyone is talking about.  Head over to trackdaytire.com, add four ECF tires to your cart and enter code SnowVIP and that 4th tire ends up being free.  How awesome is that?  Great tires and saving money.  Plus, if you are in the Akron or Cleveland Ohio area, have the Atomic Autosports team mount and balance them for you.     Check out our sponsors:LMS-EFI Website, Facebook, InstagramAtomic Autosports Website, Facebook, InstagramETC Coaching Michael Ribas on LinkedIn, ETC Website, ETC InstagramFollow us!Late to Grid - InstagramLate To Grid - FacebookLate To Grid - TwitterEpisodes on YouTubeOur Host, Bill - Instagram and TikTokThanks for listening and taking an interest in growing grassroots racing. Reviewing a time trial with an athlete, and these were his thoughts: This route sounds like a good candidate for a negative split. Get up to speed but don't go out too hard, ride that descent maximally aero, punch it up the steep first climb, dial it back on the subsequent descent and recover, don't mess up the turnaround. Save the watts for the second half and roast the reverse climb (longer but less steep), take the next descent as aero as one can, then truly empty the tank like life or death on the climb to the finish. Overall, work harder in the second half than the first. Gotta know the feeling on Time Trials and when breaking away! Like in this video: https://youtu.be/uTL9ZiG4Knc negative split in terms of power…wayyy more watts needed on second half can i use X watts of power so that I can still ride above 100% FTP for any portion uphill Brendan@EVOQ.BIKE. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Full Blog With Training Tips: www.evoq.bike/blog Subscribe to Our Newsletter: http://eepurl.com/ggRc4n Follow Me on Strava: https://www.strava.com/pros/5889 --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/evoqbike/support
