Read the account of Christ's holy Transfiguration (Metamorphosis in Greek) in Matthew ch. 17, Mark ch. 9, and Luke ch. 9. Appearing clothed in Light on Mt Tabor, the Savior fulfilled his promise to His disciples that "there are some standing here who shall not taste death, till they see the Son of man coming in His Kingdom" (Mt 16:28). Christ's Transfiguration is the image of the future state of the righteous, of which He spoke when He said "Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun" (Mt 13:43). According to the Church's tradition, the Transfiguration occurred forty days before His Crucifixion; for this reason the Transfiguration is celebrated forty days before the Exaltation of the Cross.

"In Homily 27, St. Isaac the Syrian speaks of two kinds of confidence. The first kind of confidence is what we generally mean when we say someone is confident. That is, the person is sure about what he or she is doing or saying. St. Isaac tells us that this kind of confidence is spiritually dangerous. It is dangerous because we live in an age of changeability, or 'ununiformity' as it is translated in the Holy Transfiguration edition of St. Isaac's text. This ununiformity refers to the mutability or inconstancy we experience in this world. Things and people don't stay the same."

Orthodox Father Wilbur Ellsworth, Baptist pastor turned Orthodox Priest of Holy Transfiguration in Warrenville IL, preached from Luke 24. ____________ During this week we tried something quite unique wherein we sought to hear from three different Christian traditions. Therefore in chapel we heard from a Baptist Protestant Minister, a Catholic priest, and an Orthodox priest. So why would we do this? Why, in a Baptist University, would we take time in chapel to hear from our Catholic and Orthodox neighbors? Our intention is to show you that we are far more united than we are different. While we have differences we can still pursue profound unity. We as the Church, big C, capital C, global church includes our Catholic and Orthodox brothers and sisters. We have the same Spirit, built on the same cornerstone, included in the same Jesus, and believers in the same resurrection. So our intention with these Church Unity Week podcasts is that you may see that all three traditions believe that Jesus extends freedom, grace, mercy, and peace to men and women. This was indeed a great week. I hope and pray that you experience the same sense of Church Unity as you listen to these podcasts. Thank you.
