Moore and Dr. Willa Moore, Bishop Mark A. Moore, Sr. is a fourth generation Pentecostal preacher. He remembers as a child hearing his father pray at the altar one day, and feeling the burden his father had for the children of God, he asked the Lord that day to let the burden of his father fall on him. The Lord honored his request and from that day, God has prepared Bishop Moore for the task. Raised and educated in the school system of Indianapolis, Indiana, he received various scholastic honors. He attended Harvard College and majored in religion although he had contemplated studying law. Bishop Moore graduated cum laude from Harvard College in 1985. From 1985 until the death of his father in 1988, Bishop Moore served in Indianapolis, Indiana at Christ Temple, the Mother Church of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. He served in various capacities, which allowed him to receive formative pastoral experience. As a national Evangelist from 1989 to 1991, Bishop Moore traveled the length and breadth of the country, living by faith as God elevated his ministry to another dimension. During this period, he accepted the position of Pastoral Assistant to Dr. James D. Nelson in Baltimore, Maryland, where he served faithfully under Bishop Nelson's leadership. In 1992, Bishop Moore was elected to pastor Zion Temple Apostolic Church, in Havre de Grace, Maryland. During his 8½ years tenure the church tripled in attendance and there was extensive spiritual growth. Not only did the church flourish, but also the community benefited, strengthening “the whole man” with after-school programs, financial counseling and practical workshops. In 1996, God spoke to Bishop Moore concerning a “new thing” in Atlanta, and in November of that year, Bishop Moore, along with a faithful handful, established Faith Covenant Church of Jesus Christ, Inc. For four years, Bishop Moore traveled between Maryland and Georgia, pastoring both churches. In early 2001, God released him to the church that he founded, Faith Covenant – another step of faith in the life of Bishop Moore. His experiences as the founding pastor of Faith Covenant Church of Jesus Christ have been invaluable in rounding out his ministerial qualifications. Pioneering a church often calls for levels of faith, sacrifice, determination, and spiritual grit that are unparalleled in any other ministerial endeavor. Although Bishop Moore never anticipated that he would be a church planter, he has come to see this season as a part of the answer to the prayer he prayed so many years ago for the burden and mantle of his father. The hardship and thrill of birthing a ministry have had an indelible impact upon his character, resulting in a mature, resilient and humble servant leader. In July of 2010, he was elevated to the office of Bishop in the Lord's Church. Bishop Moore is married to the talented and lovely Shirley Ann Moore and they have three energetic, outgoing and spirit-filled children Mark, Jr., George David , and Sharon Alise - who are all actively involved in helping him to reach the world.

Your Hope-Filled Perspective with Dr. Michelle Bengtson podcast

Episode Summary:  Have you been knocked down by life's circumstances and are struggling to get back up?  Join me with Dr. Mel Tavares as we talk about how to overcome adversity and rise from the ashes.  Those things that seem impossible are not impossible when we're working with God and cooperating with Him. Quotables from the episode for Overcoming Adversity: If we aren't advancing in the battle, we are retreating. We have to serve our way out in order to rise up from our ashes. As we pour into others, our pain is redeemed. To be content, we have to let go of what we think we should have or deserve to have. Our circumstances don't define us.  Scripture References for Overcoming Adversity: Matthew 17:20 (Amplified)  He answered, “Because of your little faith [your lack of trust and confidence in the power of  God]; for I assure you and most solemnly say to you, [a]if you have [living] faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,' and [if it is God's will] it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you. John 10:10 (NIV) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. 2 Corinthians 12:8-9 (NIV) Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. Being reared in the church, Pastor Long possesses a unique zeal, love and passion for God and His people. His spiritual formative years began at the Bethel Way of the Cross Church, under the pastorate of his father in the Gospel, Bishop Darnell Easton. He preached his initial sermon at the age of 17, and was licensed as a minister by his father. During the 74th Holy Convocation of the Way of the Cross Church of Christ, Intl., Pastor Long made history, and was ordained the youngest Elder in the history of the organization. In the winter of 2018 following the leading of the Holy Spirit, he was appointed as the Pastor-Designate by his father and was unanimously accepted by the Communion Church family. On November 3, 2018, History was made once again as Pastor Long was installed as the Senior Pastor of Communion Church, making him the youngest Pastor within the organization as well as the community in which he serves. In addition to his numerous responsibilities, he is devoted to expanding ministry beyond the parameters of the church sector. Pastor Long has served a multiplicity of community service organizations. He was the first male awarded with the “Ailene Stamper Youth Award” by the Concerned Black Women, saluting him for his pursuit of excellence. In the summer of 2017, he was elected to serve on the Executive Board of the Calvert County Democratic Central Committee. Pastor Long then went on to win a successful bid, as he was re-elected to a full 4 year term during the 2018 Primary-Election Cycle. He is currently the youngest in state history to be elected and the only African-American presently serving on the county level. Committed to life-long ministry, it is Pastor Long's desire to make “long-lasting” impressions through developing lives and reigniting purpose, ultimately impacting the globe with the liberating and transformative power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Today's episode focuses on an exploration of our Baptism. We may feel that our baptismal calling is fully expressed in pastoral ministry, and in many cases, it might. But what if the Holy Spirit has different plans for us? What if we feel our baptismal calling change? How can we reflect and truly listen to the calling of the Spirit? Brother Louis Canter from the Diocese of Orlando, Florida, begins our conversation today. Brother E. Louis Canter, OEF serves as a Pastoral Assistant for two parishes in the Lakeland Florida area. In subsequent Ministry Monday episodes, Brother Louis has reflected on the role of lay leadership in today's Church, and the spirituality of the saints and holiness among us. Today we speak about baptism and begin at a liturgy we all have experienced very recently: the Easter Vigil.

Jeff Pickering and Travis Wussow welcome Charles Hedman, a pastor and elder from Capitol Hill Baptist Church, to the show to talk about the journey this church took to meet again in D.C. during the pandemic. This conversation also happens to come while the U.S. Senate is considering the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett. Charles is also an attorney, and a graduate of Notre Dame Law School, where, you guessed it, Amy Coney Barrett was one of his professors. So we had to start today's conversation about his experiences with Judge Barrett.Guest BiographyCharles Hedman was born and raised in South Bend, Indiana. After growing up a devout Catholic, Charles came to a definitive understanding and belief in the gospel during his senior year in college at the University of Notre Dame. After graduation, Charles attended Notre Dame Law School and, later, worked as a corporate litigation attorney in Indianapolis, Indiana. Called into ministry, Charles left the practice of law and joined the staff of Campus Crusade for Christ (“Cru”) in 2009, working there until 2013. In addition to earning his B.A. and J.D., Charles has also earned Masters degrees in Teaching and Divinity from the University of Southern California and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, respectively, and is currently completing a Masters degree in Theology from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Charles joined the staff of CHBC as a Pastoral Assistant in September of 2014. He and his wife Jamie live on Capitol Hill with their children.Resources from the ConversationRead Jeff's articles on CHBC's journeyWhy I've looked forward to church outside during COVID-19Explainer: Religious liberty and Capitol Hill Baptist Church's lawsuit in Washington, D.C.Update: Capitol Hill Baptist wins in District CourtA Q&A for churches on government restrictions with a religious liberty attorneyHow do you know if your religious liberty is violated?Download the Courage and Civility Church KitSubscribe to ERLC's Policy Newsletter

In this episode we talk with Matt Canlis who is the Pastor of Trinity Church in Wenatchee, Washington. A few years ago, Matt was a Pastoral Assistant in Scotland and discovered the parish model of pastoral ministry. He learned how to engage the people of his parish by walking around and visiting with them in their homes, schools, businesses, and pubs. He also learned to structure his week so that he wouldn't be at the mercy of his own or his congregation's expectations. After his time in Scotland, Matt and his family were called back to the United States to serve at Trinity Church in Wenatchee, Washington. In this transition, Matt has been deliberate about continuing the parish ministry model and his weekly rhythms in this new context.Access more Show Notes with pictures and resources related to this episode.More information about this podcast and helpful church and urbanism resources can be found on The Embedded Church website.Related ResourcesTrinity ChurchLivegodspeed - check here for Matt's new book Backyard Pilgrim coming in 2020Jesus and the Victory of God by NT WrightUnder the Unpredictable Plant by Eugene PetersonFind these Key Terms on The Embedded Church website:- Belonging- Embodiment- Hospitality- Localism- Parish- Proximity- ShalomShow CreditsHosted and Produced by Eric O.
