New Church Westville Weekly Sermon Podcast

Easter is of course about the Lord's Resurrection after His Crucifixion. But just because the Lord rose and lived again does not mean that we ourselves feel His living presence within ourselves. There is a process of being led to Him; it is a process that involves both the head and the heart, a process that involves grief and joy, faith and doubt. This Easter Sunday we will explore what the Gospel of John has to tell us about finding the Risen Lord in our own lives.

Fun fact: In a healthy human being over half of our body's composition is water, 60% to be exact.  That means that if you weigh 175 pounds you're walking around with about 105 pounds of water! Even with all of that water, your body still must have an adequate daily supply, or bad things begin to happen in you. Most people don't realize how bad dehydration is for you. When you get dehydrated, you get headaches, you get muscle cramps, your brain even begins to shut down. Your brain has to have water in order for you to think! When JESUS spoke His fifth words from the Cross, “I thirst”, Physicians who have studied and written about His Crucifixion, tell us that JESUS was suffering from severe dehydration.  It is amazing that He had the clarity of mind to accomplish all He did, through what He said from the Cross.  He did it all for you! Thirst is a shared human experience, but it is not only a need for fluid intake. Every human soul also thirsts. We all thirst for GOD!  Unfortunately far too many of us try to quench that with other things that never satisfy the deep thirsting in our souls. In this message, Pastor Joe Still teaches how JESUS' great moment of thirst, can quench the deepest thirsts in our lives.

As we join the Hebrew children waving palm branches and crying "Hosanna," we confront a profound paradox: the same crowds who welcome Jesus as king will soon demand His Crucifixion. This stark contradiction mirrors our own spiritual journey. We proclaim Christ as King with our lips yet sometimes crucify Him in our hearts through sin and indifference. Yet throughout this drama, one truth remains unchangeable – Christ is victorious. "It is not death that Jesus goes to seek today in Jerusalem, it is triumph." Even as Israel rejected Him, a new people arose from all nations of earth to acclaim Him as King and Savior. As we journey through Holy Week, each day invites us deeper into mystery: Monday (fidelity), Tuesday (silence), Wednesday (fortitude), Thursday (Eucharist and priesthood), Friday (sacrifice), and Saturday (hope). The liturgy brilliantly unites Christ's passion with resurrection, weaving themes of victory and joy even amidst suffering. We're called to unite ourselves with Christ's sacrifice by carrying our crosses and purifying ourselves of all that weakens our union with Him.This week demands spiritual action. Make a good confession to prepare yourself for Easter communion. Offer prayers for those who oppose Christ's kingship, recognizing that all humanity remains subject to Christ in matters of faith and morals. Christ paid an immeasurable price for our salvation – a price we all must reckon with through either sacrifice in this life or purification in the next. "His disciples will suffer with Him." Archbisop Aquila addresses the congregation of St. Mary's in Breckenridge at a mass installing their new pastor, Father Erik. In the Gospel readings, Jesus speaks to the sons of Zebedee who candidly ask the Son of God for a seat at His right and left hand when He comes into power, maybe not fully understanding that Jesus' victory will not be the toppling of Rome which the Israelites so hoped for. Today, we Christians truely are called to share in Jesus's victory: a victory which is not of this world, a victory which is in His Crucifixion and Resurrection. As the politics and sentiments of today's age seem to shift further and further from God's will, we must be ready to suffer and remain faithful to Jesus Christ, choosing His will over our own. In our Gospel reading from St. John 12, looking ahead to His Crucifixion our Lord says these words, "Now is the judgment of this world, now the ruler of this world will be cast out." What judgment of the world and its ruler is our Lord speaking about? The judgment of Satan who deceived and wronged every soul. Tonight we hear the Church Fathers speak about Christ on the Cross being both prosecuting attorney against Satan and for us. And we hear them speak also of Christ as the judge who condemns our enemy and grants us acquittal that we may be freed.

Read the account of Christ's holy Transfiguration (Metamorphosis in Greek) in Matthew ch. 17, Mark ch. 9, and Luke ch. 9. Appearing clothed in Light on Mt Tabor, the Savior fulfilled his promise to His disciples that "there are some standing here who shall not taste death, till they see the Son of man coming in His Kingdom" (Mt 16:28). Christ's Transfiguration is the image of the future state of the righteous, of which He spoke when He said "Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun" (Mt 13:43). According to the Church's tradition, the Transfiguration occurred forty days before His Crucifixion; for this reason the Transfiguration is celebrated forty days before the Exaltation of the Cross.

President Russell M. Nelson, President and Prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints shares his testimony that He lives! He is our Advocate with the Father and our Redeemer. As conflicts between nations escalate, and as corruption becomes increasingly commonplace, what can help us? What can help each of us with our personal struggles and with the rigorous challenge of living in these latter days? The prophet Lehi taught a principle for spiritual survival. “Men are, that they might have joy.” Joy comes from and because of Him. He is the source of all joy. As in all things, Jesus Christ is our ultimate exemplar, “who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross.” Think of that! In order for Him to endure the most excruciating experience ever endured on earth, our Savior focused on joy! And what was the joy that was set before Him? Surely it included the joy of cleansing, healing, and strengthening us; the joy of paying for the sins of all who would repent; the joy of making it possible for you and me to return home. Without His Resurrection, death would be the end. Our Savior's Atonement made eternal life a possibility and immortality a reality for all. He lives! He is our Advocate with the Father, our Exemplar, and our Redeemer. #BecauseofHim ▶︎ SUBSCRIBE to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the latest videos: http://bit.ly/1M0iPwY

Key moments Ministry of the Risen Lord 4:58 Significance of the Resurrection 9:08 Did the Lord in Reality Die and Rise Again 13:18 Text of speech: The Resurrection of Jesus Christ By Elder D. Todd Christofferson Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles Jesus of Nazareth is the resurrected Redeemer, and I testify of all that follows from the fact of His Resurrection. A crushing sense of defeat and despair enveloped His disciples as Jesus suffered and died on the cross and His body was placed lifeless in the tomb. Despite what the Savior had repeatedly said of His death and subsequent rising again, they had not understood. The dark afternoon of His Crucifixion, however, was soon followed by the joyous morning of His Resurrection. But that joy came only as the disciples became eyewitnesses of the Resurrection, for even the declaration of angels that He had risen was at first incomprehensible—it was something so totally unprecedented. Mary Magdalene and a few other faithful women came early to the Savior's tomb that Sunday morning, bringing spices and ointments to complete the anointing begun when the Lord's body was hastily laid in the sepulchre before the approaching Sabbath. On this morning of mornings, they were greeted by an open sepulchre, the covering stone having been rolled away, and two angels who declared: “Why seek ye the living among the dead? “He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, “Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”1 “Come, see the place where the Lord lay. “And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead.”2 As bidden by the angels, Mary Magdalene looked into the tomb, but it seems that all that registered in her mind was that the body of the Lord was gone. She hurried to report to the Apostles and, finding Peter and John, said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.”3 Peter and John ran to the place and verified that indeed the tomb was empty, seeing “the linen clothes lying … and the napkin, that was about his head, … wrapped together in a place by itself.”4 John apparently was the first to comprehend the magnificent message of resurrection. He writes that “he saw, and believed,” whereas the others to that point “knew not the scripture, that [Jesus] must rise again from the dead.”5 Peter and John left, but Mary remained behind, still in mourning. In the meantime the angels had returned and tenderly asked her, “Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.”6 At that moment the resurrected Savior, now standing behind her, spoke, “Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.”7 Elder James E. Talmage wrote: “It was Jesus to whom she spake, her beloved Lord, though she knew it not. One word from His living lips changed her agonized grief into ecstatic joy. ‘Jesus saith unto her, Mary.' The voice, the tone, the tender accent she had heard and loved in the earlier days lifted her from the despairing depths into which she had sunk. She turned, and saw the Lord. In a transport of joy she reached out her arms to embrace Him, uttering only the endearing and worshipful word, ‘Rabboni,' meaning My beloved Master.”8 And so this blessed woman became the first mortal to see and speak to the resurrected Christ. Later that same day He appeared to Peter in or near Jerusalem;9 to two disciples on the road to Emmaus;10 and in the evening to 10 of the Apostles and others, appearing suddenly in their midst, saying, “Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.”11 Then to further convince them “while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered,”12 He ate broiled fish and honeycomb before them.13 Later He instructed them, “Ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”14 Beyond these confirmed witnesses in Jerusalem, we have the incomparable ministry of the risen Lord to ancient inhabitants of the Western Hemisphere. In the land Bountiful, He descended from heaven and invited the assembled throng, some 2,500, to come forward one by one until they had all gone forth, thrusting their hands into His side and feeling the prints of the nails in His hands and in His feet.15 “And when they had all gone forth and had witnessed for themselves, they did cry out with one accord, saying: “Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God! And they did fall down at the feet of Jesus, and did worship him.”16 Christ's Resurrection shows that His existence is independent and everlasting. “For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself.”17 Jesus said: “Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. “No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.”18 The Savior is not dependent on food or water or oxygen or any other substance or power or person for life. Both as Jehovah and Messiah, He is the great I Am, the self-existing God.19 He simply is and ever will be. By His Atonement and Resurrection, Jesus Christ has overcome all aspects of the Fall. Physical death will be temporary, and even spiritual death has an end, in that all come back into the presence of God, at least temporarily, to be judged. We can have ultimate trust and confidence in His power to overcome all else and grant us everlasting life. “For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.”20 In the words of Elder Neal A. Maxwell: “Christ's victory over death ended the human predicament. Now there are only personal predicaments, and from these too we may be rescued by following the teachings of him who rescued us from general extinction.”21 Having satisfied the demands of justice, Christ now steps into the place of justice; or we might say He is justice, just as He is love.22 Likewise, besides being a “perfect, just God,” He is a perfect, merciful God.23 Thus, the Savior makes all things right. No injustice in mortality is permanent, even death, for He restores life again. No injury, disability, betrayal, or abuse goes uncompensated in the end because of His ultimate justice and mercy. By the same token, we are all accountable to Him for our lives, our choices, and our actions, even our thoughts. Because He redeemed us from the Fall, our lives are in reality His. He declared: “Behold I have given unto you my gospel, and this is the gospel which I have given unto you—that I came into the world to do the will of my Father, because my Father sent me. “And my Father sent me that I might be lifted up upon the cross; and after that I had been lifted up upon the cross, that I might draw all men unto me, that as I have been lifted up by men even so should men be lifted up by the Father, to stand before me, to be judged of their works.”24 Consider for a moment the significance of the Resurrection in resolving once and for all the true identity of Jesus of Nazareth and the great philosophical contests and questions of life. If Jesus was in fact literally resurrected, it necessarily follows that He is a divine being. No mere mortal has the power in himself to come to life again after dying. Because He was resurrected, Jesus cannot have been only a carpenter, a teacher, a rabbi, or a prophet. Because He was resurrected, Jesus had to have been a God, even the Only Begotten Son of the Father. Therefore, what He taught is true; God cannot lie.25 Therefore, He was the Creator of the earth, as He said.26 Therefore, heaven and hell are real, as He taught.27 Therefore, there is a world of spirits, which He visited after His death.28 Therefore, He will come again, as the angels said,29 and “reign personally upon the earth.”30 Therefore, there is a resurrection and a final judgment for all.31 Given the reality of the Resurrection of Christ, doubts about the omnipotence, omniscience, and benevolence of God the Father—who gave His Only Begotten Son for the redemption of the world—are groundless. Doubts about the meaning and purpose of life are unfounded. Jesus Christ is in fact the only name or way by which salvation can come to mankind. The grace of Christ is real, affording both forgiveness and cleansing to the repentant sinner. Faith truly is more than imagination or psychological invention. There is ultimate and universal truth, and there are objective and unchanging moral standards, as taught by Him. Given the reality of the Resurrection of Christ, repentance of any violation of His law and commandments is both possible and urgent. The Savior's miracles were real, as is His promise to His disciples that they might do the same and even greater works.32 His priesthood is necessarily a real power that “administereth the gospel and holdeth the key of the mysteries of the kingdom, even the key of the knowledge of God. Therefore, in the ordinances thereof, the power of godliness is manifest.”33 Given the reality of the Resurrection of Christ, death is not our end, and though “skin worms destroy [our bodies], yet in [our] flesh shall [we] see God.”34 President Thomas S. Monson tells of a Robert Blatchford who, 100 years ago “in his book God and My Neighbor, attacked with vigor accepted Christian beliefs, such as God, Christ, prayer, and immortality. He boldly asserted, ‘I claim to have proved everything I set out to prove so fully and decisively that no Christian, however great or able he may be, can answer my arguments or shake my case.' He surrounded himself with a wall of skepticism. Then a surprising thing happened. His wall suddenly crumbled to dust. … Slowly he began to feel his way back to the faith he had scorned and ridiculed. What had caused this profound change in his outlook? His wife [had] died. With a broken heart, he went into the room where lay all that was mortal of her. He looked again at the face he loved so well. Coming out, he said to a friend: ‘It is she, and yet it is not she. Everything is changed. Something that was there before is taken away. She is not the same. What can be gone if it be not the soul?'”35 Did the Lord in reality die and rise again? Yes. “The fundamental principles of our religion are the testimony of the Apostles and Prophets, concerning Jesus Christ, that He died, was buried, and rose again the third day, and ascended into heaven; and all other things which pertain to our religion are only appendages to it.”36 As the prophesied birth of Jesus drew near, there were those among the ancient Nephite and Lamanite peoples who believed, though most doubted. In due course, the sign of His birth arrived—a day and a night and a day without darkness—and all knew.37 Even so today, some believe in the literal Resurrection of Christ, and many doubt or disbelieve. But some know. In due course, all will see and all will know; indeed, “every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess before him.”38 Until then, I believe the many witnesses of the Savior's Resurrection whose experiences and testimonies are found in the New Testament—Peter and his companions of the Twelve and dear, pure Mary of Magdala, among others. I believe the testimonies found in the Book of Mormon—of Nephi the Apostle with the unnamed multitude in the land Bountiful, among others. And I believe the testimony of Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon who, after many other testimonies, proclaimed the great witness of this last dispensation “that he lives! For we saw him.”39 Under the glance of His all-seeing eye, I stand myself as a witness that Jesus of Nazareth is the resurrected Redeemer, and I testify of all that follows from the fact of His Resurrection. May you receive the conviction and comfort of that same witness, I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.   Alleluia. I always keep a copy in my pocket, and I share it with people who are curious about our standards. It has been updated and refreshed to better cope with the challenges and temptations of our day. The new version of For the Strength of Youth is available online in 50 different languages and will also be available in print. It will be a significant help for making choices in your life. Please embrace it as your own and share it with your friends. This new version of For the Strength of Youth is subtitled A Guide for Making Choices. To be very clear, the best guide you can possibly have for making choices is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the strength of youth. So the purpose of For the Strength of Youth is to point you to Him. It teaches you eternal truths of His restored gospel—truths about who you are, who He is, and what you can accomplish with His strength. It teaches you how to make righteous choices based on those eternal truths.13 It's also important to know what For the Strength of Youth does not do. It doesn't make decisions for you. It doesn't give you a “yes” or “no” about every choice you might ever face. For the Strength of Youth focuses on the foundation for your choices. It focuses on values, principles, and doctrine instead of every specific behavior. The Lord, through His prophets, has always been guiding us in that direction. He is pleading with us to “increase [our] spiritual capacity to receive revelation.”14 He is inviting us to “hear Him.”15 He is calling us to follow Him in higher and holier ways.16 And we are learning in a similar way every week in Come, Follow Me.     ACU Endorsed Charities -------------------------------------------------------- Pre-Born! Jesus said to his disciples: “A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For people do not pick figs from thornbushes, nor do they gather grapes from brambles.” Luke 6:43–44What a great way to examine the direction of your life! This Gospel passage gets to the heart of how we can best discern whether or not we are truly fulfilling the will of God. Oftentimes we may struggle with knowing clearly if we are doing that which God wants of us. There are many directions in life that we can be pulled toward and many goals we can come up with on our own. For that reason, it is useful from time to time to stop and do an honest inventory of our lives. When you look at the past year of your life, what do you see? Specifically, do you see good fruit being born? Such an examination is helpful to do from time to time. It is useful to make such an examination not only for the past year but for different time periods. Perhaps start by looking at the big picture by looking at all the times in your life that were most fruitful for the glory of God. From there, try to look at your life decade by decade, year by year and then even month by month over this past year. Look for the most blessed moments in your life as well as the most challenging moments. When we examine our lives in this way, it's important to understand what to look for. For example, there may be moments when all went well in one way or another and then other times that were painful and very difficult. What's important to know, from a divine perspective, is that just because something “went well” at one point, or just because something was “painful and very difficult” at another point in our lives, this doesn't mean that the former was the most fruitful for the Kingdom of God or the latter the least fruitful. In fact, heavy crosses and difficulties in life can often be the most fruitful times for us, spiritually speaking. Just look at Jesus' life. Of course, everything He did was fruitful for the glory of the Father in Heaven, but we can easily point to the most painful moment of His life as the most fruitful. His Crucifixion brought forth the greatest good ever known. So it is with our lives. The fruitfulness of our lives is not best discerned by looking at those moments when all was easy, fun, memorable and the like. Though those may also be graced moments, we need to look at spiritual fruitfulness from the divine perspective. We need to look for the moments in our lives, be they easy or difficult, when God was clearly present and when we made choices that gave Him the greatest glory.Reflect, today, upon your life being like a tree that bears spiritual fruit. What times of your life, decisions you made, or activities that you were engaged in produced the most virtue in your life? When was your prayer life the deepest? When was your charity the strongest? When was your faith and hope the most evident? Return to those moments, savor them, learn from them and use them as the best building blocks for the glorious future our Lord desires for you.My glorious Lord, Your life bore fruit of infinite value. You continually chose to fulfill the will of the Father in Heaven, and, as a result, You lived every virtue to perfection. Help me to regularly pause in life so as to examine the direction in which I am going. May I learn from my errors and rejoice in those moments that were most fruitful for Your Kingdom. I love You, Lord. Help me to bear the greatest fruit for Your glory. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2023 My Catholic Life! Inc. We do not know how such great sorrow can be borne, but it is no wonder the sun hid its face in shame. No wonder the veil of the temple was rent. No wonder the very earth convulsed at the plight of this perfect child. And at least one Roman centurion who saw all of this sensed something of what it had meant. Contemplating the Mighty Acts – Palm Sunday and Holy Week MESSAGE SUMMARY: While we were still sinners, Jesus died for us. It is through Jesus' death and Resurrection that we are able realize God's Grace of Salvation from our sins and to gain our Eternal Life. Holy Week is all about God's Grace; Jesus' death on the cross; Jesus Resurrection; and our Salvation. All sinners need what Jesus did on the cross for us. The message of Palm Sunday, of Holy Week, is that the Passover Lamb, Jesus, has entered the city of Jerusalem, just as prophesied in Zachariah 9:9 more than five hundred years before Jesus' birth: “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.". The lambs brought into the city for Passover would be inspected, for any blemishes, by the Levites so that the perfect lambs for the celebration of Passover could be selected. At the same time, Jesus was being “inspected” by the various Jewish and Roman “inspectors”, including the Levites and Pharisees, during the week leading up to the Jewish Passover celebration. As prophesied, Jesus was the perfect Passover Lamb, the Lamb of God, to be sacrificed for the sins of the world. On the Monday of Holy Week, Jesus reentered Jerusalem and cleansed the Temple. As told in Mark 11:17, Jesus drove from the Temple the sacrificial animal vendors who had booths in Temple's Courtyard. This Courtyard was set aside, when God had established the Temple, for the Gentiles to pray so that the Temple was the place for all to worship: “And he was teaching them and saying to them, ‘Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations'? But you have made it a den of robbers.'”. Tuesday and Wednesday, of Holy Week, were days of both doctrinal challenges and teaching for Jesus – further “inspections” for the perfect Passover Lamb, Jesus. Thursday, of Holy Week, is the day which Jesus washes the Apostles' feet and eats the Passover meal, which is when Jesus institutes our Sacrament of the Communion. Also, this is the day that Jesus gives the new commandment of “Love one another”. The Apostle John expresses Jesus' love and His role on our behalf in John 15:12-14: “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.". On Thursday, Jesus has His agony in the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus prayed to God to have the responsibility of His Crucifixion, death, and His separation from God to take on the sins of the world, be taken from Him. However, Jesus prayed to God: (Matthew 26:39) “And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, ‘My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.'”. Additionally, Judas betrays Jesus; and Jesus is arrested – we refer to this Thursday, of Holy Week, as Mundey Thursday. On Mundey Thursday, we begin a period of prayer and mourning. On the Friday of Holy Week, we come to Jesus' Crucifixion and death on the cross. On Friday, the Apostle Peter denies Jesus three times; and Jesus has three trials. After His death, Jesus was buried; and His tomb was sealed and guarded by the Roman soldiers. On the Saturday of Holy Week – the day of rest, the Jewish Sabbath – Jesus is bound by death and in the grave. On the Sunday of Holy Week – the day of Jesus' Resurrection, Jesus arises from death as the Passover Lamb, “the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world!”.   TODAY'S PRAYER: Keeping the Sabbath, Lord, will require a lot of changes in the way I am living life. Teach me, Lord, how to take the next step with this in a way that fits my unique personality and situation. Help me to trust you with all that will remain unfinished and to enjoy my humble place in your very large world. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 129). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM A CHILD OF GOD. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. Good Friday is the day Jesus was crucified and died for our sins. The truth is, it was good for us, but excruciating for Jesus. Good Friday is actually the darkest day in human history when men murdered God. Why did Jesus die? He was nailed to a Cross, suffered and died for us. He carried all our sins to the Cross and selflessly suffered so that you could be saved and have eternal life! That's how much He loves you. On Thursday night, just before His Crucifixion, Jesus wrestled with the reality of his coming Crucifixion. He knew He was going to die. So, he goes to the Garden of Gethsemane and He prays to God “take this cup from me.” He's asking to be spared the suffering in front of Him. But, then He says “your will be done.” It was a prayer of surrender to God. He asks for what He wants (to be spared the suffering), but ultimately says you know what's best. And the Holy Spirit then gives Jesus the strength He needs to face the Cross in front of Him.  How do you apply this to your own life? If there's a situation you are dreading and you just want God to take it away. Take away the cancer, God– I don't wanna go through chemo! I don't want to sign these divorce papers– it's too painful! It's okay to pray for the pain to pass, but also, surrender and pray “your will be done.” God will anoint you with His power and His peace if you'll open your hands and surrender. Watch this message from Pastor Tim Lucas, and learn about Good Friday and Holy Week, the most sacred 7 days in Christianity. #LiquidChurch #GoodFriday #JesusIsCrucified #WhyDidJesusDie #Crucifixion #Passion #HolyWeek #PrayToGod #Jesus #Christianity #ChristianChurch

On this episode, we wrap up our review of Blurry Creatures Podcast Episode 11 with Dr. Judd Burton, going over the significance of the event at Mt. Hermon in the days of Jared, as the Watchers descent in Genesis 6 led to incalculable evil upon the earth, and how Jesus' Transfiguration at the very same mountain, and subsequently His Crucifixion and Resurrection, signaled the victory over those same fallen gods which had corrupted mankind millennia ago. Also discussed is how we arrived at the canon of the Bible that we have today, the book of Enoch, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Gates of Hell, Pan the satyr god of panic, occult numerology, freemasonry, origin of secret societies, the corruption of humanity by the teachings of the Watchers, the nations given over to other gods in Deuteronomy 32, Jesus' preaching to those very same imprisoned Watchers in Hell, the gods beings associated with mountains and gardens, and the Nephilim-trait iniquity of Ham's grievous sin leading to the curse of Noah against his son Canaan. https://www.blurrycreatures.com/listen/blog-post-title-three-e3sfh-rjlk2-nl4h5-nhc9k-j3xms-kkkf8-ba6hf Original Music by BassManPete Cover art is of Mt. EP 93 | God the Spirit Explained (Our Doctrinal Statement) | Redeeming Truth   Pastors Jon Benzinger, Dale Thackrah, and Kyle Swanson discuss God the Spirit. Who is God the Spirit? Who is the Holy Spirit?   God The Holy Spirit. We teach that the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Trinity, is personal, meaning He thinks, feels, desires, chooses and acts. He is omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent and eternal. He created and preserves the world, was actively involved in Jesus' earthly life (e.g., His conception, empowering His ministry, at His Crucifixion and His Resurrection), was sent by the Father and the Son in fulfillment of the New Covenant as Jesus' comforting replacement, is the Divine Author and Interpreter of Scripture, convicts of sin, restrains evil, grants new life to the spiritually dead, places all believers into Christ and the one true church, convinces them to repent and believe, indwells them permanently, empowers biblical preaching, gives Christians access to God, leads them away from and empowers them for victory over sin, transforms them into the image of Jesus, produces godly character, prays for them, gifts them for ministry, seals and protects them until He raises them from the dead and in all things brings glory to Jesus. We teach that while God can certainly work miracles today, they were prominent only during certain periods in biblical history, being given to authenticate someone's ministry as truly speaking or working for God. The offices of apostle and prophet ended with the Apostle John. The ‘gift' or ability to perform miracles was never intended to be the normal Christian life and no one is performing miraculous gifts at will today (e.g., tongues / languages, prophecy, healing, etc.). Spiritual gifts are ministries given to every Christian for the purpose of blessing and edifying others. No specific ‘gift' is evidence of salvation. No ‘word from the Lord,' feeling or impression will ever contradict or supersede what the Spirit has already said in the Bible He authored. Friday of the Sixth Week of Easter - Anguish Turns to Joy

“When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world. So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you.”  John 16:21–22Anguish in life is common.  In small ways, we will experience anguish each and every day.  And, from time to time, we will experience the very heavy pains of a particular anguish in our lives.  Does an experience of anguish mean you are not in God's grace?  Does it mean that God has left you?  Or does it mean that you are doing something wrong?  Certainly not.  In fact, all we have to do is look at the life of Jesus to see this is not the case.  He was in constant anguish throughout His earthly life as He continually entered more deeply into the mission of His Father.  Just prior to His public ministry He was in anguish for forty days in the desert.  Throughout His public ministry, He experienced the anguish and exhaustion of His earthly life.  He experienced the criticism of others, misunderstanding, ridicule, rejection, harsh treatment, and so much more.  In the end, we know His fate on the Cross. Our Blessed Mother had the “sword of sorrow” pierce her heart.  She was misunderstood and ridiculed from the beginning as a result of her mysterious pregnancy out of wedlock.  She carried a perfect love of her Son and anguished over His future as He grew.  She watched many love Him and others harass Him.  She watched His mockery of a trial and His Crucifixion.  But think of their lives now.  They now reign from Heaven as the glorious Queen of All Saints and the King of the Universe.  They live in glory now for eternity.  Their anguish has turned to perfect joy.Reflect, today, upon your own trials in life.  The Scripture passage above reveals the promise that God makes to those who endure them with faith.  If you feel as though you have been dealt an unfair hand or have been treated unfairly, you are in good company.  The key is to walk through this life with grace and dignity.  Do not let the trials of this life or its pains get you down.  Know that as you remain faithful walking down the path God has set for you, the end result is that you will rejoice!  This is simply a fact.  Hold on to that hope and keep your eyes on the finish line.  It's worth it in the end.My compassionate Lord, I surrender my anguish and burdens to You.  I unite them to Your Cross and trust that You will be there in all things walking with me through my life.  May I keep my eyes on the goal and rejoice in Your steadfast love.  Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2022 My Catholic Life!

Good Friday looks a lot different than most of the days when we gather as a community. Most of the time when we gather as a Catholic community, we gather to celebrate the Mass, to celebrate the great event when through the power of prayer, God transforms bread and wine into the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Christ. This great transformation is the presence of God in the world, the Eucharist, the reason Catholics gather. We call it, and I repeat over and over again, the source and summit of our faith, the origin and destination—where our faith comes from and where our faith is going. This great mystery of our faith is removed from us on Good Friday. We don't celebrate Mass on Good Friday. We still receive Communion; indeed, that the Communion we share today was consecrated last night at the Holy Thursday Mass is a great symbol of the continuation that exists between the two celebration and the celebration that we look forward to in our Easter celebrations tomorrow night and Sunday Morning. But the absence of a Mass today is a unique thing; in fact, Good Friday and Holy Saturday are the only two days of the year that there is not a Catholic Mass. Sometimes, Priests need days off or communities can't gather, but always, every day, somewhere in the world, at all times except Good Friday and Holy Saturday, there is a Mass being celebrated. The great absence of this prayer, of this celebration, of this opportunity for our community to gather is minimized by what we do here, in this unique way that we gather, this unique way we manifest our prayer and raise our intentions to God. We gather in memorial, in commemoration, of Jesus' death, this very sad moment in our salvation history. The man Jesus is stripped, beaten, and the crucified beside two criminals, where our Lord who did nothing wrong is treated with such contempt and violence and evil. Yet in the last moments of Jesus' life, as we hear in the Gospel of St John today, His focus is not on His suffering; His focus is not on His impending death, but indeed, it is on the Church, the community of believer that He will leave behind. So, in this great action of prayer and this great sacrifice, He also takes this great action of entrusting the Church in the Grace and Providence of His Mother, Mary, who will be there for a time to journey with the Church as a guide, as a leader, as an example of what it is and how it is to follow Christ. Mary, we know, followed Christ Her whole life perfectly, from the moments before His birth and beyond the moments after His death. Mary is a perfect example of what Christian faith is and how Christian faith should be lived out.  Faced with the death of her son, she provides for us a model of how to deal with suffering, how to deal with sadness: meeting and encountering her son who has been beaten and flogged and is now crucified, there is no description of a profound change in Mary; she continues along in her mission, ministry, and prayer as a mother, disciple, and lover of Jesus. This reveals to us a great acceptance, and in the great acceptance of her suffering, Mary makes Christ present by bearing suffering beside Him. She carries out her daily duties, but there could be no denial that suffering carries tangibly in her life. Indeed, the great tradition of the Church gives Mary the Crown of Martyrdom not because she was killed violently as the rest of the other martyrs in our tradition have but because of the great suffering she endured seeing her Son crucified and die on the Cross.  In this great example of what it is to suffer, we see what it is to bear the wounds of Christ without actually physically bearing the wounds of Christ. We see in this a model of discipleship, an invitation and a reminder that our suffering, although it is not physically on the Cross with Christ, it is similarly offered to the Lord and with the Lord. Our suffering has the opportunity to be a great prayer of supplication to the Lord, an opportunity to bring our suffering as prayer to the Lord as Mary did and as Isaiah describes when he anticipates how the Messiah will bear “our infirmities and carry our diseases” in the first reading. Even if all we can do is suffer beside the Lord, He will use that suffering as a great prayer, as a great invitation to draw deeper and deeper into relationship with Him and deeper and deeper into imitation of Him. Suffering can and indeed does become the holiest part of our lives. Sometimes, I think we would like to imagine that holiness is pious things we do like kneeling in the Church or doing great acts of service, but what the Gospel reveals to us today, what the model of Mary shows us today, is that the greatest act of Christian Faith is suffering. When we see the hurt and the brokenness of the world, but we choose to worship God anyway, that is great Christian faith. When we act not in absence or ignorance of that suffering, nor when we expect to see some miraculous removal of that suffering, we truly see that at the base of the Cross, God's action is made manifest in the world. Somehow we see through that suffering to anticipate the great glory which is to come, the great glory of removal of suffering, the great glory that is the plan of our salvation.  Somehow the sufferings we endure become the wounds not just of the Crucified Christ, but the Risen Christ as well—the Risen Christ who still bears the wounds of His crucifixion, the Risen Christ who still manifests this suffering. Christ is made manifest, the Glory of God is made manifest, in the sacrificial action that exists beyond His actual Resurrection. In our own lives when we bear suffering, and maybe especially when it never seems to go away, somehow God uses that for his glory and goodness and when we arrive into the Kingdom of Heaven and celebrate the great wedding feast He promises, the great banquet which is foreshadowed when Christ receives wine on the Cross in the Gospel today and proclaims that “it is finished.” In the Letter to the Hebrews, it says that “we have a great high Priest who is able to sympathize with our weaknesses and has been tested as we are,” who knows our human experience. God who is made man endures the difficulty of human life with us and for us, to show us that His glory can be revealed despite the brokenness and hurt of the world. Christ is somehow always there, and perhaps most profoundly, in the midst of suffering, hurt, in the midst of His Crucifixion.

“This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”  1 Cor. 11:24We begin, today, the Triduum—the three great celebrations of our Catholic Faith.  Yes, there are numerous celebrations that take place throughout the year.  But these three celebrations are the heart of our faith and are the culmination of all of our worship.  We begin today with the celebration of the Lord's gift of the Most Holy Eucharist given through the priesthood He instituted.  Tomorrow we enter into the mystery of His Crucifixion.  Saturday after sundown we enter into the glory of His Resurrection. On Holy Thursday evening, we begin the Triduum with the commemoration of the Last Supper.  This event in history, which took place as a Passover meal shared with Jesus and His Apostles, begins the gift that brings us salvation. On Holy Thursday, we hear the Lord say for the first time, “This is my body that is for you.”  We hear Him point to the gift of the Holy Eucharist as His gift to us, given for our holiness and fulfillment.  It's a gift we will never be able to fathom or comprehend.  It's the gift of His complete self-giving and sacrificial love.If we could only understand the Eucharist!  If we could only understand this precious and sacred gift!  The Eucharist is God Himself, present in our world, and given to us to transform us into that which we consume.  The Eucharist, in a real way, transforms us into Christ Himself.  As we consume the Holy Eucharist, we are drawn into the divine life of the Most Holy Trinity.  We are made one with God and are given the food of eternity.   On that first Holy Thursday, Jesus also offered an example of the perfect humility and service that we are called to imitate as we become one with Him.  He washed the feet of His Apostles so as to teach them and us that His Body and Blood are given so as to enable us to love as He loved.  The Eucharist transforms us into true servants who are called to humility.  We are called to humble service of others.  This service will take on various forms but it is what we are called to.  Do you serve those around you?  Do you humble yourself before others to care for their most basic needs?  Do you show them you love them by your actions?  This is at the heart of Holy Thursday.  Humble service is a beautiful expression of our own intimate union with the Son of God.So often, true “greatness” is misunderstood.  Greatness is often perceived with a secular understanding of success and admiration.  Too often we want others to admire our accomplishments.  But Jesus offers another view of greatness.  On Holy Thursday, He shows that true greatness is found in this humble act of service.  Imitating Him requires that we surrender our pride.  And this is made possible when we consume the Holy Eucharist with faith.  The Eucharist enables us to love and serve others in this humble way.  And that love and service is an act that will win the hearts and souls of others for the Kingdom of God.As we celebrate Holy Thursday, we are all challenged to ponder our humility and to commit ourselves to a radical and total gift of self to others.  Reflect, this night, upon whether or not you imitate the humility of our Lord.  Are you committed to seeking ways in which you can serve others, showing them you love and care for them?  Let Holy Thursday transform you so that you can imitate the great love that Jesus offered us on this glorious night. My humble Lord, help me to understand what it means to be a servant.  Help me to live this humility in my actions.  May the gift of Your most Sacred Body and Blood transform me into the person You desire me to be.  Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2022 My Catholic Life! Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. This program of Real Israel Talk Radio is Episode 114. This is a PART 1 analysis and overview of Yeshua's "Passion Week" Chronology of Yeshua: Passover to Crucifixion to Third Day Resurrection. The texts of the four gospel accounts report on Yeshua's last-week crucifixion and his third-day resurrection. With this multi-series, I hope to offer plausible answers to many problematic texts in Yeshua's “Passion Week” chronology (as it is called).A comparison read through all the documented events does not flow as smoothly as we might like it to flow. Collectively, a read of the texts seems to appear moderately disjointed and, in some cases, downright confusing. In the past, if you have done any serious comparison readings, you will immediately notice the problems. Many centuries of biblical scholars have had similar issues. In reading through the texts, you will know the issues and the problems they create. With today's overview program PART 1, we will be looking at a handful of the typical itemizations of gospel narrative events in that final week of Yeshua. We will look at all the events through the lenses of some of the various religious traditions. We will have a hard look at many of the problematic texts and in so doing, come up with a chronology that actually works, and works well, especially in what we would call Year 27 C.E. (of the "Common Era"). And, please, help yourself to the attached program outline and transcript for this PART 1 episode in the Passion Week Chronology of Yeshua: Passover to His Crucifixion to His Third Day Resurrection. Support the show (https://www.paypal.com/biz/fund?id=23WBKCMBHKDT8/Ancient Roads: Real Israel Talk Radio)

The mighty Charlemagne (742-814), King of the Franks, united most of Western Europe under his crown. He was a visionary who advanced education and reformed the laws, economy, and culture of Europe. When Charlemagne died, his son Louis I, assumed the throne. At first, all went well. But in 817, he began diving the empire among his nephews and his four sons, causing no end of problems. Twice he was deposed by his sons, and, though he regained his throne both times, he was never again able to rest securely. Caught in the middle of this epic family conflict was Theodulph, Bishop of Orleans, a city south of Paris. Theodulph, born in Spain about 750, had gone to France as a church leader at Charlemagne's request. He was a brilliant man who worked hard to reform the clergy. He established schools and advanced education. He advocated high morals, built churches, and composed hymns of praise to God. But during the political intrigues of Louis' reign, Theodulph was accused (falsely, it seems) of conspiring with King Bernard of Italy; and on Easter Sunday, 818, he was imprisoned in the monastery of Angers, a city southwest of Paris. There, as he meditated on our Lord's triumphal entry into Jerusalem prior to His Crucifixion and Resurrection, Theodulph wrote the great Palm Sunday hymn, “All Glory, Laud, and Honor.” According to a tradition that can be neither confirmed nor denied, when King Louis later visited Angers, he momentarily halted by the monastery where Theodulph was helped, and the bishop appeared at the window, singing “All Glory, Laud, and Honor.” The king was reportedly so moved that he order the bishop's release. For whatever reason, we know Theodulph was released in 821, but he died on his way back to Orleans, or shortly after his return there. Originally there were 78 verses to this hymn! Theodulph had lots of time in his prison-monastery. The first several are the ones we commonly sing today. One stance that has called by the wayside is this verse: “By Thou, O Lord, the Rider; and we the little ass, That to God's holy city together we may pass.” The resources used for the podcast include, but not limited to; “How Great Thou Art” written by Robert J.
