Tricia Stringer's best-selling Australian rural romance stories have helped country love blossom into the hugely popular category it is today. As a recognised “voice of Australian story telling” Tricia's gone on to include historical sagas and multi-generational family fiction in her very popular body of work. In tune with the times her latest book, The Model Wife, examines what happens when a woman everyone relies on feels she's been pushed just one point too far. Could it be that in her attempt to be a loving wife and mother, Natalie King no longer knows who she is? Hi there, I'm your host Jenny Wheeler, and we're delighted to have three E-Book copies of The Model Wife to give away to three lucky readers. Enter the draw on the website, thejoysofbingereading.com or on our Binge Reading Facebook page.  Entries close May 30. Six things you'll learn from this Joys of Binge Reading episode: How Tricia got into writing rural and women's fictionWhy reader say her stories resonate with their livesThe way Covid is changing writer's livesWhat she's working on nowThe writers she admires mostWhat she'd do differently second time around Where to find Tricia Stringer: Website:  https://www.triciastringer.com.au/ Facebook:  @triciastringerauthor  Twitter:  @tricia_stringer Instagram: @triciastringerauthor What follows is a "near as" transcript of our conversation, not word for word but pretty close to it, with links to important mentions. Jenny Wheeler: Hello there Tricia and welcome to the show. It's great to have you with us. Tricia Stringer: Hi Jenny.  Thank you so much for inviting me. Tricia Stringer romance and historic fiction author Jenny Wheeler: Tricia, you are in South Australia and I'm in New Zealand and in these days of pandemic, I think people like to picture where you are talking from and what your situation is.  Is social distancing affecting you very much and where are you located in relation to Adelaide, for example? Living in semi-lockdown Tricia Stringer: I live in rural South Australia. I'm about two hours north of Adelaide on Yorke peninsula and near the sea.  We're very lucky here, obviously we are social isolating, but we can still catch up with friends for a coffee.  What we've been doing is bringing our own and just sitting outside and keeping ourselves apart.  At home it's not very much different for me because I work from home anyway.  So here I am sitting in my office, talking to you, which is my usual workplace. I've got a view out over my garden, but I guess the thing I miss the very most is being able to see my family, especially my two grandsons who live in Adelaide, and I usually see them fairly regularly, so we've been doing lots of Skyping and sending letters and lots of things like that. Jenny Wheeler: Fantastic. The new technology, not even particularly new technology now, does come into its own when we're in these situations, doesn't it? How Tricia got started as an author Tricia Stringer: Yes, thank goodness. Jenny Wheeler: I always like to start by asking that question, because people always want to know the answer to it: how did you get into your writing?  Was there a Once Upon a Time moment of realization, or was it more something you'd had there on the back burner for a long time? Tricia Stringer: I've always enjoyed writing.  I never thought of myself as a writer as such, but when I was a teacher, now let me think, about 25 years ago, I had a class of Year 4/5 children and we were doing local history and I thought I could write them a little story to explain this aspect of local history that we were doing. That's when I realized that it's really easy to start a story.  What's hard is to actually finish it. So I did a children's writing course and I ended up writing a couple of children's stories, got bitten by the writing bug, and then had this idea for a story with a rural theme.  That's what got me into

Tricia Eastman is a medicine woman, author, and pioneer in the psychedelic movement. Eastman offers highly curated retreats in countries where use is legal, working with iboga, psilocybin mushrooms, and 5-MeO-DMT. She has been initiated into Bwiti Fang traditions and the Ngonde Missoko tradition, and she facilitated the psychospiritual iboga program for Crossroads Treatment Center in Mexico. She supports projects related to the preservation of the sacred medicines and sacred sites for future generations and working with the ancient wisdom traditions with respect and reverence.  In this episode, Tricia discusses the start of her journey into becoming a healer working with psychedelics. At a 5-MeO-DMT retreat, she learned how to love herself, and decided she wanted to lead others on this healing experience. Since 2016 she founded Psychedelic Journeys, which offers guided retreats with a number of medicines.  Tricia shares the many ways 5-MeO-DMT can be administered, and how facilitators can support participants during this ceremony. While she does discuss the positive experiences many people have, she speaks frankly about how 5-MeO-DMT can greatly affect others based on their previous experience, both with psychedelics and past trauma.  One of Tricia’s passions is promoting sacred and ethical use of 5-MeO-DMT. She discusses how encroaching farming practices and unethical harvesting has impacted the source of 5-MeO-DMT, the Sonoran Desert Toad, and some practices for minimizing harm   In this episode: How Tricia got started facilitating 5-Meo-DMT. Some methods facilitators use during a 5-MeO-DMT ceremony. What people may experience during a 5-MeO-DMT ceremony. How 5-MeO-DMT is contraindicated The ethical and environmental impact of 5-MeO-DMT extraction.   Quotes: 12:00 "You are in a space of timelessness where your perception of where you are could feel like eons even though it has been seconds." 14:59 "I try not to be a character in the movie. I don't want it to ever be about me, or doing anything, because they are there to do their own healing work.  19:43 "We don't want to set you up in a way that you are going to get in your own experience, and not actually receive whatever the medicine wants to show you." 37:48 "For me, I really feel that it's important that everything is done in a sacred way. That they are done in an ethical thing." 41:14 Everything I do is a very deeply intuitive process of really following and listening, and that's just how you learn when you work in the shamanic traditions.   Links: Third Eye Meditation Lounge- Third Eye Cacao- Use code PLANTMEDICINE to get 15% of orders over $50, and a free class at the meditation lounge. 3rd Eye Mushroom Immune Elixior Find Tricia Eastman online Follow Tricia on Instagram Ancestral Heart Terra Incognita Foundation World Bufo Alvarius Congress 5-MeO-DMT Patient Experience Music by Porangui

Tricia Brouk is a multi-facetted expert who translates her experience in film and theater to the public speaking landscape. As the executive producer of TEDxLincolnSquare, she helps speakers excavate their stories for inspirational gems and polish them into impactful and powerful talks.   In this episode, Tricia speaks on what it takes to deliver a memorable Big Talk, her path to becoming a successful TEDx organizer, and how she gets to the heart and soul of ideas worth spreading.   Episode Topics How Tricia’s personal training business survives in a saturated market Ways to completely support who you are as an artist or creative A behind-the-scenes look at organizing a TEDx talk Tricia’s clever technique that leverages exhaustion to extract The Big Idea The art of public speaking and getting speakers to open up Open doors and opportunities for TEDx speakers What separates a TEDx talk from a typical keynote Tricia’s process for helping speakers deliver authentic messages The difference between producing and directing Experts curse and canned answers What makes a successful director and leadership’s role Creating a unique process that attracts attention and clients How Tricia gets clients through her podcast Active listening to hear the message behind the message     [3:45] Starting line: Tricia came to NYC without a safety net and didn’t want to be a starving artist. She started her own personal training company which enabled her to make money while she pursued the performing arts.   [5:37] Started The Big Talk by accident when a friend asked her to direct her TEDxSyracuse.   [7:25] First TEDx event: Applied for TEDx Lincoln Square and put on her first event 2 years ago followed by her second event in March 2018.   [10:09] Recipe for success: Whether she's working with clients or speakers, she shows up fully.   [11:05] Standing out: Because NYC’s personal training market is so saturated, Tricia brought on a personal chef service as added value to Brouk Moves clients.   [13:09] "I had to figure out how I was gonna [pursue performing arts] without having the constraints of somebody telling me when I had to be in an office."   [13:54] Transitioning passions: Tricia ended her dancing career with an hour-long solo performance in 2007. She wanted to write, direct, and choreograph.   [18:45] Opening doors: In 2005, A friend of Tricia was teaching John Turturro Pilates. Later, he asked her to choreograph his movie starring Christopher Walken and Susan Sarandon.   [20:55] "If you want to be a prolific artist, working at a restaurant is absolutely acceptable but it's a time suck."   [22:27] What goes into directing a TEDx talk and Tricia’s process when working with speakers and actors. Create a safe space - so they can become vulnerable and deliver an authentic message.   [24:40] Tricia's first TEDx speaker was Petra Kolber and her talk was "The Perfection Detox."   [26:21] TEDx opportunities: Giving a TEDx talk earns you immediate credibility and opens doors to future speaking gigs.   [27:54] TEDxLincolnSquare's origin story: Tricia went back to directing her own shows and didn't think she'd continue working with speakers.   [28:59] Starting a podcast: To help her build an online presence, she hired a visibility strategist who connected her with John Lee Dumas. He encouraged her to start a podcast and The Big Talk was born.   [30:06] Becoming an expert: On the podcast, Tricia interviewed 15 TEDx organizers about what it means to be an organizer. She attracted speakers who were interested in giving a TEDx talk. [31:30] "So that's how I became a TEDx organizer...I needed a place to put my speakers." [33:05] Leveraging exhaustion: She’s able to extract the big idea from her clients after a rigorous 2-hour active listening session.   [36:43] Leadership is everything: "If I can't hear what you're saying as a director, I will not be able to direct you in a way where that scene is completely truthful." [37:49] "What I've noticed over the course of the past 8 years of working with entrepreneurs and experts is people don't realize what their own superpower is. They think it's one thing but it's really something different."   [39:04] Bringing talks to life: The Blueprint session involves 3 x 5 notecards and gives the speaker clarity on their true message.   [41:42] What’s next for Tricia: Creating a masterclass series called The Fearless Speaker coming fall 2018, season 9 of The Big Talk, and opening applications for TEDxLincolnSquare in September 2018.     Connect with Tricia Tricia@thebigtalknyc.com TheBigTalkNYC.com ← download "The Art of the Start" for free!
