Susan Jeremy is a solo performer, stand-up, playwright  and public school teacher in New York City. As a performer, she keeps her audiences laughing with many characters, music, observations, and dry wit. She is the author of seven solo shows which she performs internationally. Susan's works have been featured around the world at comedy festivals, including the  Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal. She is the recipient of the Best Comedy and Best Production award at Montreal Fringe Festival along with Best touring show at Hamilton Fringe. In this episode, Susan discusses her seventh solo show, Robert Will Show You the Door (Tales of Being Fired), and how being fired from a series of jobs led her to becoming a special education teacher. She reveals that she is an undiagnosed person with dyslexia and how this affected what she thought was possible. She discusses how performing led her to find her confidence and overcome her learning disability.When she started substitute teaching she used her daily experiences to write her first a solo show. She brought the show to Montreal and it was an instant hit, landing her a contract to tour the show nationally, only to have it cancelled when  9/11 happened. Susan took this as a sign that she was supposed to work with kids. When she was offered a full time teaching job, she took it, walked away from show business and went to grad school at night. A feat that she never saw was possible. Susan learned that the way forward is to not listen to people  who say “ You can't do this” and never to doubt yourself. The mere act of trying is brave and will lead you on a path to accomplish things. As a breast cancer survivor, Susan discusses how facing a life challenging illness made her  even more determined to accomplish her goals. She used humor as a survival technique and inspired others who were going through treatment. This led her to teaching children who were in the hospital. On episode 281 of The AwardsWatch Podcast, Executive Editor Ryan McQuade is joined by AwardsWatch Josh Parham to review Death of a Unicorn from A24, as well as talk about their favorite comedies of the 2020s as well as their favorite comedies of the last 25 years, the first quarter of the century.  Before getting into their thoughts on the latest release, Ryan and Josh discuss the big trailer that dropped last week for Paul Thomas Anderson's film One Battle After Another, starting Leonardo DiCaprio. In the first glimpse of the biggest film of the director's career, there was plenty to love as well as be cautious about in anticipation of the film's release this coming September. After their brief thoughts on the trailer, they transition to Death of a Unicorn, which premiered earlier in the month at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival. Ryan, who reviewed the film at the festival, was mixed on it, and Josh joined him for a mixed reaction of a fascinating concept that never amounted to much in the final product. A disappointing comedy featuring a mostly wasted all-star cast.  The conversation moves to talking about their favorite comedies of the 2020s so far, as the website and podcast will start to look at the best films of the decade so far. Films like Hundreds of Beavers, Bottoms, Anora, Benedetta, Barbie, Anora, and more. After discussing those films, they opened up the conversation to the best comedies of the last 25 years, as the team will also be taking a look at the best films of first quarter of the century. Vera  is an Emmy-nominated television and feature writer whose career spans multiple genres and two countries. She is Executive Producer and Co-Showrunner of How to Die Alone, a series for ABC Signature / Hulu / Onyx Collective starring Co-Showrunner and EP Natasha Rothwell (The White Lotus, Insecure). She was Executive Producer and Co-Showrunner on Hulu's much-lauded second season of PEN15, garnering a 2021 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy and WGA Award nomination for Best Comedy.  Her other television credits include the critically acclaimed Ms. Marvel, Orange is the New Black, Schitts Creek, Bojack Horseman, Playing House and Community. Vera signed an overall deal with ABC Signature in 2022. How To be Alone is her first project under her new banner, Welcome Stranger. This week the American cinematographer Alicia Robbins who is the first female to become a full-time Director of Photography on a Shondaland series. Alicia was lead DP on  season 17 of GREY'S ANATOMY, and also lensed episodes of season 3 of the Netflix series, ‘BRIDGERTON. Other credits include a 2022 mini-series for Netflix titled KEEP BREATHING. She also shot four episodes of season 2 of the NBC re-boot of Quantum Leap. The feature BABYSPLITTERS, lensed by Alicia, won Best Feature Film at the 2020 Santa Barbara International Film Festival and Best Comedy Feature at the San Diego International Film Festival, and received a mention in Variety for its "sparkling" cinematography. And THE WEDDING INVITATION won Best Romantic Comedy at the Manhattan Film Festival and Best Comedy at Burbank International Festival in 2016. Alicia is the 2018 recipient of the prestigious Emerging Cinematographer Award from the Cinematographer's Guild for her work on the short INTERNET GANGSTERS.  Alicia was born in San Diego, California in 1979, the youngest of three children—she has an older sister Theresa and brother Tommy—to parents Mary Lynne and Tommy—both musicians, piano and voice teachers. Her parents lived in San Diego for over 20 years but when Alicia was four years old, the family moved to Trussville, AL where she grew up.  At the age of seven, she became a competitive swimmer through high school. Despite a musical background, Alicia chose a career in cinematography and in 2003, she graduated with an MFA from the American Film Institute (AFI).  Alicia will be returning to BRIDGERTON to shoot Season 4 later this year. This week the American cinematographer Alicia Robbins who is the first female to become a full-time Director of Photography on a Shondaland series. Alicia was lead DP on  season 17 of GREY'S ANATOMY, and also lensed episodes of season 3 of the Netflix series, ‘BRIDGERTON. Other credits include a 2022 mini-series for Netflix titled KEEP BREATHING. She also shot four episodes of season 2 of the NBC re-boot of Quantum Leap. The feature BABYSPLITTERS, lensed by Alicia, won Best Feature Film at the 2020 Santa Barbara International Film Festival and Best Comedy Feature at the San Diego International Film Festival, and received a mention in Variety for its "sparkling" cinematography. And THE WEDDING INVITATION won Best Romantic Comedy at the Manhattan Film Festival and Best Comedy at Burbank International Festival in 2016. Alicia is the 2018 recipient of the prestigious Emerging Cinematographer Award from the Cinematographer's Guild for her work on the short INTERNET GANGSTERS.  Alicia was born in San Diego, California in 1979, the youngest of three children—she has an older sister Theresa and brother Tommy—to parents Mary Lynne and Tommy—both musicians, piano and voice teachers. Her parents lived in San Diego for over 20 years but when Alicia was four years old, the family moved to Trussville, AL where she grew up.  At the age of seven, she became a competitive swimmer through high school. Despite a musical background, Alicia chose a career in cinematography and in 2003, she graduated with an MFA from the American Film Institute (AFI).  Alicia will be returning to BRIDGERTON to shoot Season 4 later this year. An award-winning circus performer, actor, director and teacher who has performed internationally for more than four million people as a principal character with Cirque Du Soleil. John's original and quirky routines are known for being an influential part of the contemporary circus movement that began in the 1980's. John often collaborates with top entertainment companies to create memorable characters and comedy routines for world class shows. In 2002 John was invited to Pixar Studios to consult on the physical comedy routines that were eventually included in the Oscar winning film Ratatouille. John continues to create challenging and experimental theater in California, including We Are Nudes which earned a “Best of the Fringe” award in the 2009 San Francisco Fringe Festival and Wet the Hippo which was nominated for “Best Comedy” in the 2013 Hollywood Fringe Festival.

Joanna Robinson and Craig Horlbeck take center stage to roast each other and recap the first four episodes of ‘Hacks' Season 3.
