Sarah’s Intro As a parent to a young adult who was adopted through foster care and also is the parent that goes through attachment interviews and experienced supervised visits and phone calls with a child at a residential facility, I am uniquely poised to discuss what it is like to be the observer and observee in parent/child interactions. Professionally, I’m a Certified Parent Coach® whose passion is helping families with children who have experienced trauma or struggle with attachment. I started The Foster Lane Parent Coaching in 2016. My goal: Use coaching to help others avoid some of the parenting challenges my own family faced. I’ve spent over 1,500 hours researching trauma, children’s brain development, parenting strategies, and foster and adoptive parenting. I successfully completed the graduate-level Parent Coach Certification program through the Parent Coaching Institute®, have completed the initial training in Theraplay™, and continue to attend conferences on trauma-informed parenting. Intro: As you know, these days we are seeing some very serious dysfunction at many levels. We see it at the individual level, family level, economic level, cultural level, political level, and religious level. Let me be clear, dysfunction becomes damaging when the core problem is not addressed. For example, in a family where one person is addicted to alcohol or drugs, if this problem is not addressed properly, it will continue and result in serious dysfunction. Dysfunctional system, when uncorrected, will do what ever it takes to maintain that dysfunction. The person with the problem will usually identify someone else in the family as the problem and the cause of why there is so much conflict. This problem can be continued for generations if not corrected. This is the consequence of ignoring the truth and the truth of God's Word. In this passage, Dr. Luke some great insights into this issue through this account of Stephen was was appointed and commissioned by the Apostles to serve the orphans food. God's Truth in a Dysfunctional System Causes Conflict v. 8-10Stephen was a man full of God's grace, power, and godly courageRemember, Stephen was affirmed to serve the widows in the distribution of foodGod used him to perform many signs and wonders among the peopleA dysfunctional system will always strive to keep itself dysfunctional v. 11-14In order to do this , the system will oppose and resist healthy input e.g. God's TruthTherefore, the system opposes change and choses an identified patient who they claim is the problem. In this case, it was Stephen proclaiming the gospel of Christ and doing the work of the kingdomThe establishment decided to argue against the truth of Jesus and the WordThey could not win against Stephen, because he was full of the Holy SpiritWhen confronted with God's truth, there is a decision that must be madeReceive it, repent and confess and agree that God is correctMake adjustments in our lives according to God's willThe Holy Spirit gave Stephen God's wisdom as he answered and spokeNo argument against the God's truth will ever conquer the WordThe members of the Synagogue and  the Freemen met in secretThey persuaded some men to bring false accusations against Stephen to cause troubleThey chose to resort to deceitful and devious methods to try to keep their dysfunction system in place to preserve their powerThey accused Stephen of blasphemyThe made up something that never happenedThey even took the words of Jesus out of contextThis stirred up the elders and teachers of the lawPeople who resist God's truth will be quick to believe a lieThey will propagate the lie to protect their pride, power, and greedGod Honors His Servant Who Speaks and Lives God's Truth v. 15While these accusations were being levied against Stephen,  the Sanhedrin looked intently at Stephen's faceHis face was like the face of an angleGod's  truth will always shine despite the oppositionJesus said, 31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."The New International Version (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), Jn 8:31–32.Even though Stephen was being interrogated and persecuted by people who refused to believe God's truth, he was a free man Closing: Anytime we choose to ignore God's truth, we will set ourselves up for potentially serious problem. We cannot and should ignore the truthGod is GodWe can try to ignore HimWe can try to eliminate HimWe can try or run from HimWe can ignore the truth of His Word and the Lord Jesus ChristBut God is real and livingNothing man can do can ever eliminate GodWe really can't run from HimWe cannot ignore the truth of His Word and the Person and work of Jesus ChristWe need to stop making excuses for ignoring God's Word!Let's come to the Lord's Table with a thankful heart and a humble heart ready to confess and repent of particular sin that the Word and the Spirit reveals in our lives.

Intro: As you know, the root of all sin is pride. Pride causes us to make some bad decisions. Pride tells us the we need to look good on the outside so that we could mask the bad stuff going on in our hearts. Unchecked pride eventually results in putting on a facade so that we look good on the outside to impress people. Pride prefers superficial impression rather than developing godly character. The worst aspect about pride is that we think we know better than God and we can then lie to God and ourselves. In this passage, Dr. Luke gives us a comparison between Christ Followers walking the talk verse Christ Followers whose talk is deceptive and misleading. They are deceiving others, God, and themselves. That is a very dangerous position in which to be. Christ Followers Who Walk the Talk They were united in heart and mind They realized that what God has given them is not theirs, but God's possessions We are call to be good stewards of God's blessings Out of a voluntary and compassionate heart, they were willing to sacrifice from time to time for the sake of others The result, by God's grace and in the power of the Holy Spirit, there was no one in need The money from the sales were laid at the Apostle's feet to be used the help others in need Christ Followers Who Didn't Walk Their Talk Ananias and Sapphira decided to sell a piece of their property The money from the sale was all their money They could have kept all of it, donated all of it, or donate a portion of it They were more interested in showing that they were better than the others in giving. They were more interested in image than character When they presented the money to the Apostles, they deceived them into believing that they were give 100% of the money from the sale of the house to the church. Instead, they  both conspired to keep a potion of the money for themselves They lied to the Holy Spirit and the church They had opportunity to repent and confess They continued to lie even as they were confronted God sent judgement Others in the church understood that God takes sin seriously Great fear spread over all the church Closing: Will we let the Holy Spirit examine our hearts to help rid us of any pride that will cause us to settle for just looking good on the outside? Are we willing to let the Word of God and the Holy Spirit change us from the inside out to start producing godly character so that we can work towards congruence in our lives?

Intro: As you know, scientists and pharmaceutical companies are working hard to develop a vaccine for the Covid-19 virus. Plus, they are trying to develop treatment protocols and medications that are effective in combating this virus to help people recover from this devastating disease. Covid-19 can be debilitating and terminal. Please realize that there are some illness that have no real treatment or vaccine. In those cases, the most that could happen is for a physician to try to alleviate some of the symptoms. There is a disease for which the best scientists in the world will never develop a treatment or vaccine. This disease is fatal and has everlasting pain and suffering. A disease needs to be named so we know what it is we face. The disease is sin.  I would suggest to you that Jesus Christ went to the cross and was raised 3 days later to provide the only permanent cure for  this deadly disease called sin. Not only does he provide the cure, he brings about regeneration and new life for those who put their trust in Him as their Lord and Savior. 1. The Gospel Ought to Unite People 1. Peter and John 1. Peter was jealous of John when Jesus walked to earth 2. I am sure there were many times when John felt like telling Peter to shut up 3. Peter was a type A personality with a mouth that would engage before his brain, uncontrolled anger, and sometimes violent 4. John was more reserved, non-violent, and reserved 1. Steve Saint 2. Diverse people coming together in unity through faith in Christ: United by the Holy Spirit 1. In the church, it is  possible to have unity in diversity 2. Explain between and uniformity 3. They went to afternoon prayer together 2. The Gospel Can Cure Spiritual Blindness 1. The lame man was lame from birth 1. So from the time he was born to the time of the encounter with Peter and John, he had to be carried by someone else all of his life 2. He begged for a living everyday  by the temple gate called, Beautiful 3. Peter and John enter in and the lame man asked them for money 1. Peter and John didn't have money, but that had something far greater e.g. the gospel 2. They told the beggar to look at them 3. They told him about Jesus and in Jesus' Name, commanded the beggar to get up and walk 4. One of the Apostles took the beggar by the right hand and helped him up 1. instantly, the beggar's feet and ankles became strong 2. He jumped, walked, and started to praise God 3. His had new life and new purpose 4. People who witnessed the transformation were amazed 4. How much greater is it that the gospel of Jesus Christ is able to remove our paralysis caused by sin? 1. Sin makes us lame and blind and spiritually and morally bankrupt 2. Only the cross of Christ can heal us and make us whole again giving us new life and new purpose 3. The Gospel of Jesus Christ Demands a Response 1. Illustration: An invitation to a wedding. 1. He went to a place of worship 2. He was jumping and praising and glorifying God 3. He knew he didn't deserve to be healed 4. He knew that the healing came form God through Christ and conveyed by Peter and John 5. Sometimes we can look like the frozen chosen 1. Have we forgotten the incredible dept from wish we have been forgiven? 2. Have we forgotten that Jesus paid out penalty on the cross in our place and endured the full wrath of God that we deserved? 3. Have we forgotten that by faith in Christ, you and I have been given new life and new purpose? Closing: So, are you ready to tell your story of how Christ healed you from spiritual blindness? We don't need to be rich to tell our story. We don't need to be a theologian to tell our story. All we need to do is praise and glorify Jesus Christ and tell people how he healed us from our spiritually lame state .

The great cry of our generation is to reduce the anxiety that overwhelms so many of us.  Many people try and find a mechanical solution.  They think that a set procedure can alleviate that.  Many people worry about the future or ruminate on things they have done wrong.  Although God has placed in us an amazing power within ourselves to find through practices like meditation, without the Help of God we can’t fully.  In this episode we will go over the real source of our peace and how to tap into it.  Get into a place where you can sit comfortably for 20 minutes.  I recommend not driving or doing chores so you can focus totally on the message God and if there is something wrong in your body I recommend you talk to a medical person to let the miracle of medicine help you as much as it can.   Intro: As you get comfortable I want to say Oh my goodness my friends, I am overwhelmed by the spike in listenership.  Just to be totally transparent, this month we are experiencing a 1000% growth.  That is because many of you share it with people you care about.  I’ve been watching the download numbers and often times I see little spikes of 10 or 20 and I know just shared it.  We had over 300 downloads of the last podcast. With you help, my goal is to reach 1000 downloads in the month of July and 10,000 downloads in the first year.  I can only do that with your help, and it costs you nothing to share.  Even though I am in grad school… again I am so happy to produce this podcast.  My only compensation for putting this podcast out is to know that people are benefiting from it, so please pay it forward and share this podcast on social media and teach other people how to subscribe.  Thank you so much for letting me into your home to whisper in your ear.  I take that trust seriously.   Guided Relaxation / Guided Meditation: If you feel comfortable doing so, feel free to close your eyes.  First things first as you sit comfortably in your chair, take inventory of your body.  What sensations do you detect?   what is your breathing doing? Is it fast? or is it nice and slow and even?   Spend some time now and notice it. For this first part, if your notice your mind wandering gently redirect it back to your breathing.   As you scan your body, try to notice areas that feel calm, spend time enjoying that part of the body that God has given you.  If there are any areas of your body that feel tense, spend a moment to notice what that feels like.  Now try and intentionally unflex them.   Continue breathing deeply and what you will notice is that your body will gently release that tension.  Imagine all the weight of your body begins to slowly melt away As you continue to take in breaths you become lighter and lighter.  All the heavy tension of your body leaks out of you as you breath deeply.  As you continue to breath you find yourself weightless in your chair.  Imagine your body slowly floating above your chair.  As you imagine yourself floating, your body is as weightless and loose as a cloud.  With each breath that you let in your body you feel the gentle cloudiness sooth any spots that felt tense until they too are light as air.   Keep breathing deeply as you listen to this scripture.  While staying relaxed, listen carefully and let the message penetrate your soul. This reading will be Isaiah 53:4-6.  The reading will be from the KJV.   Bible verse for meditation: 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.   Meditation on scripture / bible verse meditation: What Message did you receive from this passage?   This is one of a the 4 servant songs in the book of Isaiah.  The other servant songs identify the servant as the people of Israel, or God’s covenant people.  This one is not specified and scholars have argued the identity of this servant.  As Christians it is very difficult to read this and not imagine Jesus Christ as we hear this.  He bore our grief. He was stricken and afflicted. He carried our sorrow.  Many times as Christians we don’t realize the full gravity of this phrase.  Jesus Christ quite literally carries our griefs and sorrows.  Jesus helps with far more than only sin.  His desire is to save us from all suffering as we learn to trust on Him and grow in Him.  It is through His stripes we are healed.  Despite this, we have gone astray.  As we saw in last episode despite our going astray, Jesus considers us a gift to him.  Despite the cost.   I invite you to open your heart to Jesus.  Let Him see your pain, your grief, your loss.  Sit open to him without any need to explain yourself, because he understands you.  Open up your sin to him also.  As you do this you realize that any pain and guilt from this sin is for one reason, to help you change.  Even as we feel convicted, Jesus has an amazing ability to convert our sin into growth and eternal glory.  Trust in Him and keep no secrets and he will care for you and cleans you.  Let his spirit guide you in how you need to resolve Sin.  Perhaps he wants you to make things right or talk to someone.  As you do spend a moment to feel the love of God for you, in the depths of your heart.   Meditation of Prayer: Pray as directed by the Spirit.   Meditation on God and His Glory / Hesychasm Sit in silence before the Lord and Foster in you pure Awe, demonstrating the purest gratitude you know how to for the forgiveness of your sins.   Meditate and Visualize Positive Change in Your Life: Imagine the message you got from scripture today.  How can that be applied to your life?  Visualize that in as much detail as possible.   Take these ideas and share them with people you trust in your life, compare to other scriptures to provide checks and balances.  Trust the spirit of the Lord and He will direct you for Good.     Conclusion: Thank you for joining me today.  I am honored that you did.  If you felt blessed by listening the only thing I ask of you in return for this free Podcast is to help me share it with everyone who you think would benefit from it.  Please help me reach our shared goal to lift up the hearts and bring the peace of Jesus.  You can share it on Social media like FaceBook and Twitter, email and text messaging.  Good old fashioned phone calls are great too. I feel blessed that you shared your time with me.     Listener Feedback “I can share this verse as encouragement and a theme of what God is focusing me concerning Psalm 90:17 NIV May the favor of The Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us” - @IAMHISDancer on Twitter   Also it will help me if you leave a review on iTunes link below.   FIND ME ON: iTunes ChristianMeditationPodcast.com Youtube Twitter
