Tonight Los Angeles Sparks at Chicago Sky, 8:00 p.m. Sunday Chicago Sky at Indiana Fever, 4:00 p.m. NHL – Draft wraps up with 11 picks for Chicago, dearth of trades ahead of free agency The Chicago Blackhawks acquired their latest generational talent along with a big dose of speed in one of the NHL's largest draft hauls. They also made another big move for their future Thursday by adding veteran Corey Perry to help teach No. 1 overall pick Connor Bedard how to be the leader the Blackhawks need to contend for a Stanley Cup. Chicago general manager Kyle Davidson says he couldn’t be happier with how this draft worked out with 11 players taken. The Anaheim Ducks added a big Swedish center to their young, talented offense in Leo Carlsson at No. 2 overall. NHL – Blackhawks acquire Perry from Tampa, adding more experience to rebuild The Chicago Blackhawks continued surrounding their youth-laden and Connor Bedard-headed rebuild with yet another experienced veteran, acquiring forward Corey Perry in a trade with Tampa Bay. The Blackhawks gave up a seventh-round pick in next year's draft to acquire the 18-year player with the belief they can sign Perry, who is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent Saturday. The 38-year-old Perry joins his fourth team in five years after spending his first 14 seasons with Anaheim. The trade was made during the second day of the NHL draft, and a day after Chicago selected Bedard at No. 1 overall. NHL – Red Wings pick up Yamamoto, Kostin in trade with Oilers for future considerations The Detroit Red Wings added much-needed scoring depth, acquiring 24-year-old forwards Kailer Yamamoto and Klim Kostin in a trade with Edmonton on Thursday for future considerations. The move clears salary cap space for Oilers general manager Ken Holland, who stepped aside when the Red Wings hired general manager Steve Yzerman four years ago. Yamamoto had 10 goals and 15 assists in 58 games last season, which was his sixth in Edmonton. Kostin had 11 goals and 10 assists in 57 games with the Oilers after arriving from St. Louis in an October trade. NHL – Flat salary cap and lack of high-profile stars lessens focus on start of free agency A flat salary cap combined with a lack of high-profile players hitting the market could make the start of the NHL’s free agent signing period more of a dud on Saturday. Numerous teams are already being challenged to retain their own players. They include the Presidents’ Trophy-winning Boston Bruins, who currently have less than $11 million of space and nine roster spots to fill. The bigger headlines are expected to come from teams re-signing their stars to long-term deals, such as the Sabres and defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. The Columbus Blue Jackets, meantime, are anticipated to announce the hiring of Mike Babcock as coach after his existing contract with Toronto expires on Friday. NBA – Veteran C Andre Drummond exercises his option to return to Bulls next season Veteran center Andre Drummond exercised his player option to return to the Chicago Bulls next season. The 29-year-old Drummond was in and out of the rotation last season, averaging 6 points and 6.6 rebounds after signing with Chicago in July. The two-time All-Star has averaged 13.2 points and 12.7 rebounds over 11 seasons with Detroit, Cleveland, the Los Angeles Lakers, Philadelphia, Brooklyn and Chicago. The Bulls went 40-42 last season and lost in the play-in tournament. NBA – James Harden picks up $35.6 million option with the 76ers, AP source says James Harden picked up his $35.6 million contract option for next season with the Philadelphia 76ers, with the franchise exploring trades to move the veteran scorer, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press. Harden informed the 76ers of his choice Thursday ahead of the midnight deadline to pick up the option, according to the person who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the decision was not made public. The 33-year-old Harden could have declined the option and decided to try for free agency. The Sixers had the right to offer him a $210 million, four-year deal, $8 million more overall than any other team. NBA – The already hectic NBA offseason now poised for free agents to make moves It’s already been a busy offseason for player movement in the NBA. Now free agency begins Friday evening. There are big names that could be on the move, including Khris Middleton and Draymond Green. There are some players like Max Strus who are in line for big paydays for the first time. Trades are still a possibility, especially since James Harden has picked up his player option. And teams now have to navigate new rules that come with the new Collective Bargaining Agreement that goes into effect on Saturday. NFL – NFL suspends 3 indefinitely for violating the gambling policy and a 4th gets 6 games NFL has suspended three players indefinitely for violating the league's gambling policy and a fourth was sidelined for six games. Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry of the Indianapolis Colts along with free agent Demetrius Taylor received indefinite suspensions through at least this season for betting on NFL games in 2022. They won't be able to seek reinstatement until the 2023 season ends. Tennessee Titans right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere was suspended for the first six games of the 2023 season for betting on non-NFL sports at the team's facility. He is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason activities, including preseason games. Hockey – Deal with Dodgers co-owner unifies women’s pro hockey in North America Professional women's hockey in North America was unified Thursday when a co-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers struck a deal with the Premier Hockey Federation. That’s according to two people with direct knowledge of the agreement who spoke to The Associated Press because the deal hadn’t been announced. A third person also confirmed the partial purchase of the PHF by Mark Walter’s firm. One of the people says the deal will result in a new women’s hockey league that is projected to launch in January. The PHF will cease operations under the deal, according to one of the people. Nassar – Sexual assault laws inspired by Nassar’s abuse are signed by governor Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has signed a package of bills that will create stricter punishments for sexual assault that takes place under the guise of medical treatment. The new laws will also protect students who report it. The bills were first inspired in the wake of the Larry Nassar scandal. Students testified that they had told adults what was happening but it went unreported. The new laws will also create comprehensive training materials for people required to report suspected child abuse and neglect. If God doesn't speak then He is just a book. But we know that God is so much more than that! He is alive, He is active, and He is most certainly speaking! Prayer was never meant to be a one-way street. When we pray, we must never forget to listen and allow God to move us, guide us, and change us. Once we learn to hear Him for ourselves, we must learn to hear Him on behalf of others. After all, people don't need another self-help book or another cold philosophy, people need to hear who they are from the loving God that made them and calls them into His royal family. Today Joe Barlow activates us in the practice of hearing personally from our heavenly Father. If you enjoyed this message, please review and share this message with someone who needs it. NBA – National Basketball Association – 2022 NBA Finals Last Night Golden State Warriors 103, Boston Celtics 90                 (GSW Wins 4-2) Warriors 103, Celtics 90 – Warriors beat Celtics 103-90 to win 4th NBA title in 8 years The Golden State Warriors are NBA champions once again, topping the Boston Celtics 103-90 for their fourth title in the last eight seasons. Stephen Curry scored 34 points for the Warriors, who claimed the franchise's seventh championship overall. And this one completed a journey like none other, after a run of five consecutive finals, then a plummet to the bottom of the NBA, and now a return to greatness just two seasons after having the league's worst record. For Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala, it's a fourth championship. The first three rings came in 2015, 2017 and 2018, when Golden State was dynastic and made five consecutive trips to the finals.  Curry also won his first Finals MVP award. MLB – Major League Baseball Last Night Texas Rangers 3, Detroit Tigers 1 San Diego Padres 6, Chicago Cubs 4 Rangers 3, Tigers 1 – Duran hits bases-clearing triple in 9th, Texas beats Tigers Ezequiel Duran hit a three-run triple with two out in the ninth inning to give the Texas Rangers a 3-1 win over the Detroit Tigers. Tigers closer Gregory Soto loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batter before Duran hit a ball just inside first base and into the right-field corner. All three runners scored, giving Soto his second blown save of the season. Dennis Santana (3-2) picked up the win with a scoreless eighth inning, and Joe Barlow pitched the ninth for his 12th save. Soto's collapse, which led to Detroit's fifth straight loss, wasted seven scoreless innings from Detroit starter Beau Brieske. Padres 6, Cubs 4 – Joe Musgrove stars as Padres beat lowly Cubs 6-4 Joe Musgrove pitched seven effective innings in his third straight win, and the San Diego Padres handed the Chicago Cubs their 10th consecutive loss with a 6-4 victory. Musgrove permitted two runs and five hits, struck out a season-high nine and walked one. The 6-foot-5 right-hander has allowed two earned runs or fewer in each of his 12 starts this year. San Diego improved to 7-2 in its last nine games with its first four-game series sweep of Chicago since Aug. 16-19, 2010, at Wrigley Field. The Padres' 41-24 record matches their best 65-game start since 1998, when the club won the NL West and advanced to the World Series. Today Atlanta (Morton 4-3) at Chicago Cubs (Thompson 6-2), 2:20 p.m. Texas (Gray 1-3) at Detroit (Skubal 5-3), 7:10 p.m.                    WSJM/WCSY 6:50 Chicago White Sox (Giolito 4-2) at Houston (Valdez 6-3), 8:10 p.m. MLB – Manfred says Rays, A’s need new ballpark deals soon Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred says the Tampa Bay Rays and Oakland Athletics need to reach new ballpark deals soon and left open the possibility of considering relocation if agreements are not struck. Tampa Bay's lease at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, expires after the 2027 season. The Athletics have played at the Coliseum since 1968, and their lease expires after the 2024 season. The A's have proposed a new ballpark and are working with Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf to gain the necessary approvals. NHL – National Hockey League – 2022 Stanley Cup Finals Saturday Tampa Bay Lightning at Colorado Avalanche, 8:00 p.m.       (COL Leads 1-0) NHL – Lightning unfazed trailing Avalanche in Stanley Cup Final The Tampa Bay Lightning say they are unfazed after losing Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final to the Colorado Avalanche. The two-time defending champions have been in this spot before. Tampa Bay has won 11 consecutive playoff series. They lost the opener in five of them. Tampa Bay was also swept in the first round the year before. Combining all that experience is why coach Jon Cooper and his players are able to stay even keeled in situations like this. Game 2 is Saturday night in Denver. WNBA – Women's National Basketball Association Tonight Atlanta Dream at Chicago Sky, 8:00 p.m. WNBA – Storm star Sue Bird says 2022 will be her final WNBA season Seattle Storm star and five-time Olympic gold medalist Sue Bird says the 2022 season will be her last playing in the WNBA. The 41-year-old considered retirement after last season before returning for a 19th season as a player. She missed two seasons because of injuries. As for the timing of her retirement, she says “you just know when you know.” Bird is a four-time WNBA champion, 12-time All-Star and the oldest player in the league. The former No. 1 draft pick has spent her entire WNBA career with the Storm. Her announcement came a day before Seattle's game at Connecticut, the state where she was a collegiate star and national player of the year. The Storm close out their road trip on Sunday in New York, about 30 miles from where she grew up. Golf – US Open – Hadwin leads US Open as McIlroy makes statement with clubs Adam Hadwin wasn't officially in the U.S. Open until eight days ago. And then he walked off The Country Club with his best score ever in a major for a one-shot lead. The focus finally shifted away from Saudi-backed rival leagues, such as who's going and who's staying on the PGA Tour. Hadwin opened with a 4-under 66 on a breezy but not overly punishing day at Brookline. The lingering thoughts of the rival league came from Rory McIlroy, not from anything he said but with the golf he played. He shot 67 and was one behind. Golf – US Open – Mickelson meltdown comes early — with a 4-putt at US Open Phil Mickelson’s chances at the U.S. Open all but evaporated on the sixth green, where he four-putted for an ugly double bogey. It was the low point of a round of 8-over 78 that left him in a tie for 144th place. This marked the sixth straight time Lefty has failed to break par in the opening round of the U.S. Open. The fans were mostly civil. Lots of shouts of “Go Phil,” and “Happy Birthday, Phil,” for the six-time major winner who turned 52. This marked Mickelson’s first tournament in America since January, when he went on hiatus after his comments about LIV Golf first surfaced. Mickelson is getting a reported $200 million to play on he breakaway tour and has been suspended from the PGA Tour. FIFA – FIFA picks 2026 World Cup cities, predicts US `No 1 sport’ Atlanta, Houston, Miami, Philadelphia and Seattle and Kansas City, Missouri, were the newcomers among the 11 U.S. sites picked to host games at the 2026 World Cup, while Baltimore, Cincinnati, Denver, Nashville, Tennessee, and Orlando, Florida, were left out. Arlington, Texas; East Rutherford, New Jersey; Foxborough, Massachusetts, and Inglewood and Santa Clara, California, were the holdovers. Mexico City's Estadio Azteca, which hosted the 1970 and '86 finals and will become the first stadium in three World Cups, was selected along with Guadalajara's Estadio Akron and Monterrey's Estadio BBVA. Toronto's BMO Field and Vancouver, British Columbia's B.C. Place were picked while Edmonton, Alberta's Commonwealth Stadium was dropped. FIFA – Excitement and disappointment as World Cup 2026 cities named Cheers and sighs met FIFA's announcement of the host cities for the 2026 World Cup. The winners included sites like Los Angeles, Mexico City and Toronto. But the big announcement was a disappointment for cities that were on the bubble. The crowd at a watch party in Washington D.C., was sullen when the last of the cities was announced. It was just the third time that a nation's capital has not been included as a host city. A similar scene played out in Denver. That was in contrast to the cheers in Kansas City. NCAA – Transfer window recommendation to NCAA board for approval The NCAA's Division I transformation committee will recommend changes to transfer rules and the infractions process before the end of June. The committee wants to establish designated time periods when college athletes can declare their intent to transfer and be eligible immediately at a new school. The transfer windows would set set on a sport-by-sport basis. The intent behind the change is to provide structure and clarity for athletes and coaches. Updates to the infractions process would be made in the hopes of making investigations more timely and holding rule-breakers accountable. NCAABSB – Clemson hires Michigan’s Bakich to revive baseball program Clemson has hired Michigan coach Erik Bakich to revive a Tigers’ baseball program that missed the NCAA Tournament the past two seasons. The school announced the addition on Thursday. Bakich’s hiring was approved by the school’s board of trustees. Bakich received a six-year contract that starts him off at $850,000 for next season and increases $50,000 each year through 2027-28. Bakich has led the Wolverines to five NCAA Tournament appearances since 2015. Michigan was the national runner-up in 2019. Bakich takes over for Monte Lee, who was fired after seven seasons. Billups, Gates headline latest Michigan sports hall class Former Detroit Pistons point guard Chauncey Billups and former San Diego Charger and Detroit native Antonio Gates lead the latest class of inductees for the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. The class released Thursday night also includes former Detroit high school basketball stars Chris Webber and Shane Battier, former Michigan basketball coach John Beilein, former Michigan softball pitcher Jennie Ritter, former Detroit Red Wing player and current broadcaster Mickey Redmond and Kathy Beauregard, who was Western Michigan's athletic director from 1997 through 2021. The class is scheduled to be inducted on Saturday, Sept. 10. MCCAA – Lake Michigan College named Academic School of the Year. Lake Michigan College's athletic department was named as the Michigan Community College Athletic Association's Academic School of the Year for the 2021-22 season.   Schools are ranked on a point system for each of the sports that college supports.  Lake Michigan College Redhawks teams had 5 of their 7 sports teams with a GPA at 3.0 or higher, which also earns them a MCCAA All-Academic team.   The announcement was made and the conference's annual summer meeting.  The MCCAA Academic School of the Year award was started last year. WNBA – Women’s National Basketball Association Tonight Atlanta Dream at Chicago Sky, 8:00 p.m. WNBA – Storm star Sue Bird says 2022 will be her final WNBA season Seattle Storm star and five-time Olympic gold medalist Sue Bird says the 2022 season will be her last playing in the WNBA. Golf – US Open – Hadwin leads US Open as McIlroy makes statement with clubs Adam Hadwin wasn’t officially in the U.S. Open until eight days ago. And then he walked off The Country Club with his best score ever in a major for a one-shot lead. The focus finally shifted away from Saudi-backed rival leagues, such as who’s going and who’s staying on the PGA Tour. The winners included sites like Los Angeles, Mexico City and Toronto. But the big announcement was a disappointment for cities that were on the bubble. The crowd at a watch party in Washington D.C., was sullen when the last of the cities was announced. It was just the third time that a nation’s capital has not been included as a host city. A similar scene played out in Denver. That was in contrast to the cheers in Kansas City. NCAA – Transfer window recommendation to NCAA board for approval The NCAA’s Division I transformation committee will recommend changes to transfer rules and the infractions process before the end of June. The committee wants to establish designated time periods when college athletes can declare their intent to transfer and be eligible immediately at a new school. MLB – Manfred says Rays, A's need new ballpark deals soon Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred says the Tampa Bay Rays and Oakland Athletics need to reach new ballpark deals soon and left open the possibility of considering relocation if agreements are not struck. Combining all that experience is why coach Jon Cooper and his players are able to stay...

Welcome to Episode 62 of the RetroWDW Podcast: "Thunder in Paradise" - We appreciate your support and hope you have been enjoying each and every episode. Be sure to check out some of our previous shows from over the years. We have visited multiple parks, resorts, and just about everything else in between. Listener Mail Right to the mailbag this month! The bag is full and we love that! Every month, you can possibly get on the show, so be sure to write to us at podcast@retrowdw.com. Also, top tier donors can even join us on a show! Take a look at how you can join us live on an episode. Shane is first with a comment about Alien Encounter. He was curious if Tyra Banks was the only host for the pre-show at Alien Encounter. Miranda sent us some new ephemera which is a 'Vacation Kingdom' brochure from 1984. Take a look at these! Our next write-in was Daniel, who discusses the talking elevator at The Contemporary Resort. He sent us a photo of the elevator and Daniel also has one at his office building. Jared wrote us a touching story about his father and attending RetroMagic. We love hearing those stories and Jared has some great memories to remember. We heard from Gary regarding Tomorrowland and an area just past DreamFlight. We have the picture here and think you should take a look. Joe Barlow, our turnstile inspector, wrote in about the radio loops asking where they transmitted from. The group explains all of this and how everything worked years ago. BONUS: We had a tweet about the AAA Comfort Lounge! Interesting area we don't know much about.. Audio Rewind Our audio rewind this month is from Voyage of the Little Mermaid at Hollywood Studios - Thank you for all the guesses and emails! We have a winner! Congratulations Jason! If you think you know the answer to this month's audio rewind, email us! contest@retrowdw.com - This month, the winner will be getting an LBVHS & RetroWDW Pin, including bonus swag. All entries are due 11/17/2020 and a random winner will be selected. Main Topic This month...what can we say. Hulk Hogan is in the building. Well not yet, but hopefully soon. Instead, we are taking you to Paradise - Thunder in Paradise! Our crew takes a deep dive into this show that was almost entirely filmed on the property at Walt Disney World. The idea behind this show was a takeoff on Baywatch and various other 90s action stylized tv shows. We love watching these episodes though and trying to analyze where they filmed the show. We get into the reason behind the show, production, storylines and so much more. Each member of the group has seen this show at various stages and years, so we all have a little bit to add. As we progress into this main topic, we get into the various episodes and discuss locations.  Some are absurd and others are cleverly done. The production team really had free rein to go wherever they needed including the Magic Kingdom, all over the Seven Seas Lagoon, The Grand Floridian and so much more. The one thing we are all curious about though, who was vacationing at WDW during the filming? We would love to see some behind the scenes footage of Thunder driving around the Rivers of America... Enjoy this super random but super topical episode all about one of the more major film/tv productions that occurred at Walt Disney World. 2020: The Year of Film To make sure you are the first to know when items are released, subscribe to us on YouTube. Our good friend @bioreconstruct let us know about an add-on for a 43" monitor he found on Amazon that has the old school infrared beams. He also found it being used in Imageworks inside Epcot. A friend of the show, Joe called in to discuss Disney Dollars - this is a great story! Thanks Joe! Turnstiles came up during the last episode and where they are still located. Joe Barlow wrote in with instructions on how to lock them and he also issues an apology.  Listener Mail Right to the mailbag this month! The bag is full and we love that! Congratulations Natalie B!  - you will be getting a bunch of great Ephemera! - hope you enjoy! If you think you know the answer to this month's audio rewind, email us! contest@retrowdw.com - This month, the winner will be getting a party package! All entries are due 9/7/2020 and a random winner will be selected. Main Topic For this month, we are discussing a major overhaul of a land at the Magic Kingdom. Many of the lands have slowly evolved and changed, but Tomorrowland had a major change with nearly everything being touched in 1994. Brian & How start us off at Disneyland in 1983 with the expansion of Fantasyland - bringing comparisons to our main topic. All of these major refurbs work towards making the park appealing to a new audience - which is why the funds were sent to the Magic Kingdom and Tomorrowland. We are basing this episode off a major press release which we just acquired.  As we work through our initial discussions about Tomorrowland, our FIRST podcast episode is brought up, and I guess way back when we discuss early Tomorrowland - if you are brave and want to hear our early stuff, here you go: Episode One-Planning for Tomorrow. 1994-95 Disney Press Release - New Tomorrowland Featuring... Alien Encounter So we basically learn that in the late 80s and early 90s, Disney learns that you can't build a land that needs to be updated every other year, especially when you call it Tomorrowland. EPCOT ran into this problem a bit and the original Tomorrowland just had so much trouble keeping up with technology. This overview episode of the entire land covers nearly everything from design and lighting to ride updates and add-ons. The signage is discussed, as this was one highlight for some of the guests. We also get into sponsorship changes and how this land impacted each of us, as I'm sure you will pick a side on if you really liked this update or not. At one point in this episode, we discuss The Timekeeper, which we did an entire episode on - click here. The new arcade that was installed right next to Space Mountain was massive. It has many games, prizes, and just a fun, Tomorrowland arcade feel. We hit a bit on the Penny Arcade, which we discuss in Episode 47 of the podcast - check it out. We spend considerable time discussing the infamous Kugel Ball, or germ ball as Todd calls it. These are more common than you think and this one has gone through some changes. It seems like there wasn't a ride or attraction that was left alone and this includes The Carousel of Progress. We go through some of the changes that made this what it is today. Throughout the episode, we have some great sound drops and audio clips. That 90s Tomorrowland background loop makes this one fun to listen to overall. We hope you have fun going back to the mid-90s and we want to know - what is your favorite memory of this 'new' land at Magic Kingdom? Send us a message and tell us!  Enjoy! 2020: The Year of Film To make sure you are the first to know when items are released, subscribe to us on YouTube. Be sure to click the notification bell too, that way you are alerted when we post.  Finally, be sure to check out Vimeo if that is your thing, as we will post there as well.   Next Month Join us next time for Episode 61, we are staying in Tomorrowland but taking you into Alien Encounter. Welcome to Episode 56 of the RetroWDW Podcast: "Good Neighbors" - We appreciate your support and hope you have been enjoying each and every episode. Be sure to check out some of our previous shows! Comments & Corrections Jake Nelson wrote in about a possible hidden skeleton somewhere inside Catastrophe Canyon. We give our take on this one from the old days of MGM. Reuben wrote us asking about the old shop to the left right inside the entrance to the Disney-MGM Studios. He is referring to Sid Cahuenga's of course! We discuss this store and the various items we have seen there over the years. Joe Barlow wrote in about some backlot vehicles, mainly the Hardcastle and McCormick car. We misidentified it as a Lamborghini, but Joe tells us it really is a kit car from back then. Listener Mail The mailbag is full and we love that! Every month, you can possibly get on the show, so be sure to write to us at podcast@retrowdw.com. Tom Potter is our first letter and it is all about time capsules. Tom brings up the opening of Coronado Springs and how they placed a capsule back in 1997. Next up is Ron. He asks us about trucks being buried at the Magic Kingdom from way back during the late 60s construction. We hear about some trucks out in the lakes, but as far as the parks, we aren't really sure... John wrote us and has been a binge listener since August. He is curious about the EPCOT Center pavilion logos and who designed them and why. This is right in How's wheel-well and is super fun to learn about. Finally, we got a tweet from Michael, giving some major props on the upcoming Horizons release we have coming. Todd gives us the updates next... Audio Rewind Our audio rewind this month is El Rio del Tiempo - Thank you for all the guesses and emails! We have a winner! If you think you know the answer to this month's audio rewind, email us! contest@retrowdw.com - This month, the winner will be getting 3 books from author Christopher Smith - All entries due 4/15/2020 and a random winner will be selected. Main Topic This month, our main topic is Good Neighbors mostly focusing on Sea World. The early days of Lake Buena Vista had just one theme park so people needed more to do and more places to stay. A few years back, we discussed some of the good neighbor hotels and that program back on Episode 39. Brian leads us this month through some of the history and how Sea World got it's start. This includes California, Ohio and the other locations as this is all an important part of the story. We walk you through every attraction through the years with personal experiences and also lots of great memories. This includes things like the Dolphin Feeding Pool, original Whale and Dolphin Stadium, Fountain Fantasy, Water Skiing and so much more. The construction history is also discussed, which has changed quite a bit over the years.  This wouldn't be an episode of the RetroWDW Podcast without some food discussions. We take a deep-dive into the Hawaiian Punch Village along with some very detailed discussion about 'Hula Pie'. If you have ever been to Sea World since it opened, this episode will for sure take you back and also give you a look at how it has changed over the years. We hope you enjoy this look at one of our favorite 'Good Neighbors'. 2020: The Year of Film To make sure you are the first to know when items are released, subscribe to us on YouTube. This past month we have posted a great resort tour from The Disney Channel, The original DVC Resort Tour, and a great Innoventions commercial from the mid-90s. As a bonus, to accompany this episode we have released a great new video from 1980 Sea World. This was shot on Super8 with sound! You are going to love this vintage footage that looks amazing - especially the Whale & Dolphin show. Matthew Driftmier wrote us about some various rocket names in the parks. The X-1 & X-2; these are all classic names within the theme parks and How gives us some history on these various names. Joe Barlow is up next - telling us a great story about how they would trick people at River Country to shorten the line.... Clever story Joe! Kyle wrote in about the Asian & Persian; simply asking why these themes haven't been used since the idea was abandoned in the 70s. Our next letter is from Matthew and he is curious about the higher end items in World Showcase. We are unsure if this is true, but we are asking our listeners for any input on this. Do you have any of the high end, expensive one off items from World Showcase? We spotted some great photos and also had some shared with us, from a recent Spaceship Earth breakdown. The stuff we saw in Episode 33.35 is way different compared to what people saw a couple weeks ago. We explain what we were able to see and compare to the latest photos that came out. Neat stuff! Pop in your earbuds, get those tight little buns in bed, and listen to the soothing voices of Joe Barlow and Laura Lee Bishop as they ASMR you to tingly paradise. Sure, Joe and Laura don't really know what ASMR is, but does anyone? Hear them whisper naughty secrets and crunch tasty snacks. Laura's dog, Ruger Elizabeth Taylor, even makes an audio appearance. This week, Joe is mad about climate change (per usual), Laura talks in great detail about her period (again, nothing new there), but most importantly, they whisper a lot.  What is ASMR? Autonomous sensory meridian response is a calming, pleasurable feeling often accompanied by a tingling sensation. This tingle is said to originate in a person’s head and spread to the spine (and sometimes the limbs) in response to stimulation. The stimuli that trigger ASMRvary from person to person. Some of the most common ones include whispers, white noise, lip smacking, having a person’s complete attention (as in having one’s hair cut by a hairdresser), as well as brushing, chewing, tapping, scratching, and crinkling. Brian & How recently rode Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and How walks us through the repurposed figures, which you can go see right now. We also hear about a recent loss Brian experienced... Which relates very well to an old Eric Boardman Disney Channel video.  Listener Mail Kicking things off, Tom wrote us from New Hampshire - asking what our own personal Holy Grail item would be from Walt Disney World. Jake Nelson wrote in about Dreamflight and brought to our attention something that remains on Buzz Lightyear - we had no idea!  Thanks so much Jake! David is up next, with some amazing audio clips he shared with us. Listen in to this great stuff from River Country, it sure is unique. More to come from David soon..... Jerry Massey sent us a commemorative VHS from the 1994 Walt Disney World Marathon. We are going to share this with you soon, so stay tuned! Joe Barlow wrote in about some of the old arcades - giving us a great memory about what it was like to walk into the Contemporary & The Fiesta Fun Center. Andrew wrote in with some great memories and it sparked the feeling we used to get, waiting forever to check into our resorts. We all give our accounts on how it felt and why it used to take forever...We even bring up the old Ving Room Key! Thank you for all the emails, tweets and comments you have sent our way. All entries due 3/12/2019 and a random winner will be selected.     Main Topic Main Street Penny Arcade We start off this month on Main Street, USA - more specifically the Penny Arcade! This classic is part of our overall topic of arcades and game rooms. How gives us an insanely detailed walk through, starting us off with the fortune telling machine and the old Mutoscope. We hear about 'Old San Francisco', 'Play Cowboy Rodeo Time', 'Burlesque Bouncer' and more. Todd also brings up some of the other titles shown on a stereoscope format as well. The stories and facts continue as How tells us about the various strength testers, baseball games, love testers and so much more. If you ever spent any time in the Penny Arcade on Main Street, let us know if you have any interesting memories. We would also love to see your pictures! Finally, we let you know where the machines ended up with an interview by Todd Tuckey.  Fiesta Fun Center Finally! We take you back to one of the greatest vintage spots in all of Walt Disney World – the infamous and now gone, Fiesta Fun Center. This was located on the first floor of the Contemporary Resort, down near the check-in desk. Currently, The Wave restaurant is located in the former spot of the arcade. We take a deep dive into this childhood paradise, which was absolutely massive. Originally, it was just an extra convention space, explaining the large size. This started officially in 1973, resembling a Raiders of the Lost Ark warehouse, filled with games that were similar to the ones featured in Jaws. There was even a smallish movie theater, costing $1 and it rotated various Disney movies. The theater is one place that seems to be very rarely pictured. We received some interesting facts and information relating to the caricature artists, which were there for a very long time. The shooting gallery, which was there in the middle of the Fiesta Fun Center run, is discussed as well during this segment. We have some various videos that were dug up, relating to the Fun Center: S.A.M.I. by Midway and this great home movie from the 1990s, which covers some other parts of the resort. The Fiesta Fun Center always seemed to have some of the best machines, which we discuss. Over the top games, experiences you didn't get elsewhere and just an overall exciting experience.   Next Month Join us next month for another great episode, all about the 'new' Tomorrowland attraction: The Timekeeper! We thank you for your support and welcome you to enjoy all of our other offerings including our photos, restored films & The Lake Buena Vista Historical Society.
