The Nats lost 8-3 to the visiting Cubs on Tuesday evening to open their six game home stand. Al & Tim start with Trevor Williams; who was taken out in the pivotal top of the 5th and was charged with five runs allowed.  Williams threw a shutout last week, but this outing was in line with his season that sports a 6.03 ERA in a dozen starts.(07:30) Five bullpen arms were needed and the first one used struggled the most.  Andrew Chafin relieved Williams in the 5th and walked two of the three hitters he faced.  Jackson Rutledge interestingly was used in the top of the 9th in mop-up duty.(11:45) The offense scored three runs right away, but did nothing in the final six frames.  Luis Garcia Jr. had a trio of hits and had a RBI single in the bottom of the 1st.(15:30) Jose Teña did not properly handle a grounder in the top of the 4th and it led to a big inning for Chicago to tie the game.(19:00) MacKenzie Gore will take the mound on Wednesday vs. the Cubs.  Gore is tied with Boston's Garrett Crochet for the most strikeouts at 101.(23:25) ESPN's Jeff Passan handicapped every team and where they fit into the eventual Trade Deadline.  Al & Tim respond to what he wrote about Kyle Finnegan and the Nats organization.

The Nats beat the Diamondbacks 9-7 on Friday for their 3rd straight victory.  Mark (From Phoenix) & Al gather early in the morning after Washington moves past Atlanta for 3rd place in the NL East.(05:30) James Wood slugged his 16th homer of the season and it is the 3rd time he has left the yard on this road trip.  The last time someone in the franchise hit 30+ homers was Juan Soto in 2019.(08:30) Josh Bell crushed a homer for the 3rd straight evening and is beginning to turn his season around. His shot went 430 feet; above the pool at Chase Field.(10:45) Robert Hassell III collected a pair of hits and made an impressive throw to the plate to nail Eugenio Suarez. "Bobby Barrels" already has three multi-hit games since making his debut on May 22nd.(18:00) There multiple instances of great defensive play, including a crucial leaping catch at the wall by Daylen Lile to keep the game tied in the bottom of the 3rd.  Luis Garcia Jr. also turned a nifty 4-3 Double Play to help Brad Lord get out of a jam.(22:10) Kyle Finnegan notched his 16th save of the season; which is 3rd most in all of MLB.(23:40) Jake Irvin really struggled and allowed four runs in the 1st inning.  His season has taken on a seesaw approach, but his ERA is still under 4.00 at 3.93.(28:30) The Nats are 14-12 in May and this is the first month that they will be over .500 since August 2023.

They are just a half game back of the Braves for 3rd place in the NL East.(05:20) Luis Garcia Jr. had four hits that included a 2-run extra inning double to give Washington breathing room.(07:00) Josh Bell homered for the second straight game; his 8th of the season.  Bell's 3-run shot firmly put the game out of reach and gave the Nats a seven run lead.(10:00) James Wood didn't go deep, but did begin the scoring with a 2-run double in the top of the 6th.  The Mariners brought in their lone lefty to face Wood and he still managed to come through with a big hit.(17:30) MacKenzie Gore struck out eight hitters in six innings of work on 95 pitches. Gore now has 101Ks on the season to lead Baseball; seven ahead of Zack Wheeler.(23:10) Four relievers were needed and it was a big evening for Jose A. Ferrar, who retired all five batters he faced. Kyle Finnegan pitched the bottom of the 10th, his first action in a week due to shoulder fatigue.(27:15) An extended conversation on Keibert Ruiz's defensive struggles behind the plate.

Irvin's ERA is down to 3.42 and his WHIP is an impressive 1.10.(10:45) Jorge Lopez surprisingly pitched the 9th instead of closer Kyle Finnegan.  Mark explains what is going on with Finnegan and why he did not enter the game on Saturday.(16:35) James Wood hit a 2-run HR in the bottom of the 1st for an early lead.  Wood has homered in seven of the eleven games in which he has been the DH.(21:00) The final out came on a diving catch by Daylen Lile in RF.  Lile started for the second straight day and had a single in the win.(24:00) The team is playing better,  but still remains four games below .500.  The hosts close the show by looking at the organization's big picture as we are almost one-third of the way through the season.

The Nats won their 5th straight on Thursday night as they outlasted the Braves 8-7 in extra innings. Mark & Al focus on the completely flipped script for the Nationals in the past week; as they recently had lost seven games in a row.  Amed Rosario was the 10th inning hero as his pinch-hit RBI single ended the affair.(07:20) Robert Hassell III had quite the MLB debut as he singled in his first at bat, stole a base, collected two hits, and scored the winning run on Rosario's RBI single. Hassell got the nod in CF and hit 7th in the lineup.(10:00) Dylan Crews is on the IL due to an oblique injury; not a back issue. Jacob Young did not play on Thursday and it is unclear if too might be headed to the IL as he has not played since crashing into the Camden Yards wall on Saturday.(16:00) James Wood' big game was overshadowed, but nonetheless impressive as he reached base four times. Wood' big hit of the night came in the bottom of the 2nd on his 3-run double to take a 5-2 lead.(17:10) Keibert Ruiz had a big eveningin front of his parents, who saw him play in person for the first time in his professional career.  Ruiz's family traveled to D.C. from his native Venezuela for the occasion.(20:00) The bullpen mostly came through in their heavy workload on Thursday night. Six relievers were needed to toss over six frames and only allowed two runs in the process. Kyle Finnegan though did blow the save in the top of the 9th, but in his defense Jose Tena committed a crucial error to extend the game.(28:10) Trevor Williams had another poor start as he was yanked in the 4th inning. Williams was charged with five runs allowed and his ERA is now up to 6.39.  Will he get moved out of the starting rotation?

The Nats won their 4th straight on Tuesday night as they topped the visiting Braves 5-3. Al & Mark have a lot to get to as Dylan Crews homered in the victory, but was removed mid-game because of a back issue, and that means Robert Hassell III is getting called up from AAA-Rochester. Hassell is one of the pieces from the 2022 Juan Soto trade with the San Diego Padres.(05:50) Jacob Young did not play for a second straight game due to crashing his shoulder into the Camden Yards' wall on Saturday. It is unclear if Young or Crews will be headed to the IL, and that likely will be decided after Crews' MRI on Wednesday morning.(10:00) Hassell's OPS is at .742 this season with four homers. He had a pair of doubles on Tuesday night in Syracuse prior to getting informed that he is headed to Washington.(14:30) The Nats offense continued their recent string of hot starts by scoring three runs right away against Atlanta's Spencer Strider.  They totaled eight hits in the win, but also had multiple terrible base running mistakes.(18:10) Mitchell Parker's outing was marred by a bad top of the 2nd where he gave up all three of his runs.  It was the 5th consecutive Parker start that was not classified as "good".(20:15) The bullpen teamed up for nearly four scoreless innings.  Kyle Finnegan punctuated the effort with a clean 1-2-3 inning for his 15th save of the year, which leads all of MLB.(26:10) Per the Washington Post, the team's Chief Revenue Officer and the Chief Marketing Officer left their positions earlier this month.  What does that mean in the bigger picture or isolated personnel moves?

The Washington Nationals pulled off a solid 5-3 win against the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night, building on their momentum from the weekend. James Wood continued his hot streak at the plate, Mitchell Parker rebounded from early trouble on the mound, and Kyle Finnegan notched his MLB-leading 15th save. But the victory came with concern, as Dylan Crews exited early after re-aggravating a left-side back injury that's lingered since the last series against Atlanta. With Crews undergoing an MRI and Jacob Young dealing with a shoulder issue, the Nats may be down two outfielders. In response, the Nationals have promoted outfield prospect Robert Hassell III to the big leagues. Once a top draft pick and a centerpiece of the Juan Soto trade, Hassell has had a tough road — including a hamate injury that derailed his 2023 season. After a slow start in Triple-A this year, he's caught fire in May, hitting .365 with a 1.006 OPS. Known for his defense and pure hitting ability, Hassell now gets his long-awaited shot in the majors. With the team inching closer to third place in the NL East, his arrival adds another exciting chapter to Washington's youth movement.

The first out did not come until the 7th hitter and Young concluded the hit parade with a RBI triple. (12:20) Keibert Ruiz had a pair of hits, including a RBI double. After a brutal seven-game losing streak, the Washington Nationals found the spark they needed with a 5-4 comeback win over the Braves in Atlanta. Fueled by clutch late-inning hits from Dylan Crews, José Tena, Amed Rosario, and James Wood, along with strong bullpen work from José A. Ferrer and Kyle Finnegan, the young Nats showed resilience and finally got back in the win column. The energy was different — a result, perhaps, of a timely team meeting that helped reset the locker room and reminded everyone that aggressive, confident baseball is still the identity they're trying to build. Though mistakes and unlucky breaks continued to surface early — missed opportunities on the bases and a few defensive miscues — the team's late-inning push flipped the narrative. For a rebuilding squad where wins aren't the only metric, this one mattered. Not just because they beat a division powerhouse, but because they found a way to win a close game — something they'll need to repeat if they want to keep building toward the future. The bats came out early as they put up four runs in the opening three innings.(06:00) Paul DeJong had a pair of hits and drove in as many runs.  DeJong was slotted 8th in the order and is hitting .240 so far in the young season.(08:45) Dylan Crews hit right behind DeJong and also had two hits on Sunday.  Crews had a good weekend series with three total hits and a stolen base.  Hear what Davey Martinez had to say about the reasons for his recent success.(13:00) Trevor Williams earned the win by striking out six in five frames.  The bullpen picked up the slack behind him as they only allowed one run; at the expense of Jorge Lopez.  Kyle Finnegan notched the save for the second straight day.(19:30). Shohei Ohtani and the defending World Series Champion Los Angeles Dodgers will come to Navy Yard on Monday night for a three game series.  (21:45) The closing highlight of Alex Ovechkin's record breaking 895th career goal is courtesy of John Walton and Ken Sabourin on the Capitals Radio Network.

The Nats halted their four game skid with a 4-3 victory on Saturday afternoon over Arizona.  Al & Mark have plenty of praise for Mitchell Parker, who has started both games that the Nationals have won this season.  Parker cleanly fielded a tough comebacker at the end of his outing, notable because of how poorly he fielded his position last season.(10:00) The bullpen was handed a three run lead with three innings to go and did just enough to prevail.  Kyle Finnegan recorded his 2nd save of the season while navigating through traffic on the bases. The final out of the game was a first in franchise history as Riley Adams threw out an attempted steal of 2nd base in order to end the affair.(16:45) James Wood had a hot start on Saturday as he made a nifty catch near the wall and then hit a 2 run double in the bottom of the first. Wood was slotted in the 5th spot in the lineup, a rarity for him.(21:00) Josh Bell had a triple in the win.  You read that right.(24:50) Answering a listener email about the possibility of Amed Rosario getting reps at 3rd base in expense of Paul DeJong for offensive purposes.(28:00) There was some question as to who would start on Sunday as it was the injured Michael Soroka's turn in the rotation, but instead Trevor Williams moves up on full rest due to the day off on Thursday.  There had been speculation that Brad Lord could move out of the 'pen, but instead the organization opted to figure out the vacant spot on Tuesday night after MacKenzie Gore pitches on Monday.

The Nats earned their first victory of the season on Sunday as they defeated the Phillies 5-1.  Mark & Al have plenty of positives to run through and begin with Mitchell Parker, who continued the good starting pitching to begin the Washington season.  Parker pitched into the 7th and didnt allow any runs.(10:00) The two Nationals homers on Sunday came from new additions to the lineup in Josh Bell & Nathaniel Lowe.  The team combined for six home runs in the opening series.(13:45) Paul DeJong came through with a trio of hits, two of which were doubles.  DeJong entered the day without a hit through two games while starting at 3B.(19:40) Keibert Ruiz caught all three game this series and hit cleanup in the order.(22:05) The bullpen only gave up one run, but it sure made things interesting in the top of the 9th.  Brad Lord made his Major League debut in the final frame, which came across as a curious decision. Kyle Finnegan came in for Lord to preserve the win in just five pitches.(29:00) The Nats begin their first road trip of the season on Monday when they open a three game set in Toronto with Michael Soroka making his franchise debut on the mound.

March has arrived and Opening Day is just a few weeks away. Mark & Al focus on key parts of the roster in the lead to March 27th vs. the Phillies. Jacob Young is an odd spot in 2025 as even though he came within an eyelash of winning the Gold Glove last season, the crowded outfield depth is making it so that he has to prove himself again that he is worthy of being an everyday CFer. (10:00) Mike Rizzo said this week that this is the deepest pitching staff in organization history and even doubled down on the claim. (16:10) Jarlin Susana, the 20 year-old pitching prospect that was acquired in the Juan Soto trade, was sent to minor league camp despite registering 100+ MPH on the radar. (18:45) Caleb Lomavita, the catching prospect drafted at 39th overall last summer, in his first Spring Training. How much pressure will he put on Keibert Ruiz? (28:00) The hosts look at the potential top of the lineup for the Nationals. Will James Wood definitely hit 3rd or could he start the season in the cleanup spot? (31:30) Could Ahmed Rosario start over Luis Garcia Jr. when a lefty is on the mound? (34:05) Stone Garrett cleared outright waivers and has been to AAA-Richmond. Garrett was DFA'd in order to make room for Kyle Finnegan last week.

Kyle Finnegan returned to the Nationals (1 year/ $6M) after originally not being tendered by the team last November.
