Amid a flurry of trade deadline deals, the Twins find themselves flush with pitchers and short on healthy outfielders. This led to the long-awaited call-up of Jake Cave, who will arguably play more games for the Twins the rest of the way than Miguel Sano will. Go figure. Dan and Hoges -- filling in for David -- discuss the Twins' additions of Tyler Mahle, Jorge Lopez and Michael Fulmer, plus the instantly impactful add of backup catcher Sandy Leon. Yet even after winning two of three from the Tigers, the Twins are clinging to a small lead over the Guardians and White Sox, and while Dan and Hoges agree that the Twins are the best team in the division, they recognize that Minnesota is still very much in a pennant race. They also discuss the rise of Jose Miranda and look around the league at the busy trade deadline, which sets up yet another Twins' matchup against Whit Merrifield this weekend against the Blue Jays.  Thanks for listening, and go Twins.Music: "Minnesota Twins Theme" (1961) written by Ray Charles and Dick Wilson. ESPN's Buster Olney has been one of the most critical voices of the Orioles all season long, seemingly ignoring when they perform well and responding disparagingly to the moves they made at the trade deadline.  Last night during ESPN's coverage of the Trade Deadline, he questioned if the Orioles were committed to winning after trading Trey Mancini and Jorge Lopez.  ESPN's Jeff Passan responded to Olney, giving support to GM Mike Elias' process and reiterated that the Orioles' don't truly pose a threat to teams like the Astros and Yankees in the AL East.  Is Olney's criticism unwarranted or does he have a point when he complains about the O's recent moves?

NBA – Pistons draft Ivey at No. 5 and acquire No. 13 pick Duren The Detroit Pistons have selected Purdue's Jaden Ivey with the No. 5 overall pick in the NBA draft. Detroit's rebuilding plan should get a boost with the addition of the dynamic player. The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Ivey can play point or shooting guard. The busy team acquired Memphis center Jalen Duren, who was drafted No. 13 overall by Charlotte and traded to New York. Detroit also added Knicks guard Kemba Walker in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick it acquired the previous day. The Pistons added Italian guard Gabriele Procida, who shot 38.3% on 3-pointers for Bologna. NBA – Chicago Bulls take Arizona guard Dalen Terry at No. 18 The Chicago Bulls drafted Arizona guard Dalen Terry with the No. 18 pick, adding size and versatility in the backcourt as they try to take another step after making a big jump to reach the playoffs for the first time in five years. The 6-foot-7, 195-pound Terry averaged 8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.2 steals as a sophomore in coach Tommy Lloyd's first season. Owning a 7-foot wingspan, he can guard multiple spots. And on offense, he can play on or off the ball. Chicago did not have a second-round pick as it was forfeited for a tampering violation. NBA – Magic take Banchero 1st, Holmgren, Smith follow in NBA draft The Orlando Magic selected Duke freshman Paolo Banchero with the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft. After leading the Blue Devils to the Final Four in coach Mike Krzyzewski's final season, the 6-foot-10 forward was called first by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to begin the draft, beating out fellow first-year forwards Jabari Smith Jr. and Chet Holmgren. Banchero, wearing a purple suit full of bling, received a loud ovation inside Barclays Center, where Duke lost in the ACC Tournament final.   Notre Dame freshman Guard Blake Wesley went 25th overall to San Antonio.  Michigan had forward Caleb Houston go to Orlando at 32nd overall, his Wolverine teammated Moussa Diabate was taken 43rd overall to the LA Clippers.  Michigan State guard Max Christie was taken by the Lakers with the 35th overall pick.  MLB – Major League Baseball Last Night Baltimore Orioles 4, Chicago White Sox 0 Pittsburgh Pirates 8, Chicago Cubs 7 – 10 Innings Tigers were off Orioles 4, White Sox 0 – Rookie Rutschman leads Orioles past hobbled White Sox 4-0 Rookie Adley Rutschman homered, doubled and drove in three runs to lead the Baltimore Orioles past the banged-up Chicago White Sox 4-0. Ryan Mountcastle had two doubles among his three hits as the Orioles won their second in a row and third in four. Dean Kremer tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings before three relievers finished off a nine-hit shutout. Kremer struck out four and walked one in his second straight scoreless outing and fourth start since returning from a strained right oblique on June 5. Jorge Lopez entered with one out in the ninth and fanned Tim Anderson and Andrew Vaughn for his 12th save. Pirates 8, Cubs 7 – F/10 – Chavis stars with bat, defense, Pirates edge Cubs in 10 Michael Chavis hit a tying home run in the eighth before pulling off a defensive gem and delivering a game-ending single in the 10th, sending the Pittsburgh Pirates over the Chicago Cubs 8-7. Chavis' solo homer made it 7-all after the Cubs scored five times in the top of the eighth. In the 10th, Chavis charged a slow grounder by Jason Heyward toward first base and threw out Patrick Wisdom at the plate. The call stood after a Chicago challenge. In the bottom half, Chavis blooped a single to right and automatic runner Ke'Bryan Hayes scored in a collision with catcher Wilson Contreras. Hayes remained down for a few moments before walking off under his own power. Hayes homered earlier in the game. Tonight Baltimore (Voth 0-0) at Chicago White Sox (Kopech 2-3), 8:10 p.m. Chicago Cubs (Hendricks 2-6) at St. Louis (Pallante 2-2), 8:15 p.m.

There is a lot to discuss this week with updated baseball rankings hot off the press over at ROSrankings.com! As the title suggests, it may be time to consider strong trade offers for one of the preseason MVP favorites in Soto. But if you're not into that sort of thing, Andrew and Bart discuss plenty of risers to consider trading for as well. Braves Dansby Swanson, Spencer Strider, and Michael Harris II are all moving up their big boards, while Charlie Morton continues to fall. Ozzie Albies is nearly off the radar completely due to his foot injury, and Walker Buehler isn't far behind as he deals with an issue in his throwing arm. Marcus Semien and Randy Arozarena are two of the biggest climbers since the last Movers & Shakers episode, and your hosts give out a couple of young guys you may want to stash or even play right now. There are some surprising closers like Jorge Lopez who are moving up, while one of the most prominent names in the saves category is trending the other way. Listen to find out which starting pitchers the guys like and which no name utility guys just might be the real deal. Your favorite sporadically recorded podcast is back now that we've reached a Birdland milestone: Adley Rutschman has hit his first homer in the majors. To mark the occasion, @NaturallyKatz11 (Jordan) is joined by the king of selfies with prospects: @imfrommaryland (Bryce). We obviously talked about Adley, but also looked at some of the other storylines from this season like Jorge Lopez being the best closer in baseball. We ended the episode by looking ahead to things like DL Hall being called up and Heston Kjerstad continuing to prove he's real.
