It's great to be back in Salem covering a Stagg Bowl, and Patrick and Greg and Frank Rossi are here to preview Stagg Bowl with North Central and Cortland. For North Central, it's the fourth time in a row they've been to a Stagg Bowl, and in four different places, so how does their experience stack up? For Cortland, it's the first Stagg Bowl, but does their experience playing the Cortaca Jug game in Yankee Stadium help this group prepare? From Cortland, we talk with coach Curt Fitzpatrick, quarterback Zac Boyes, linebacker John Whiney and wide receiver Cole Burgess. And from the North Central side, we chat with coach Brad Spencer, quarterback Luke Lehnen, left tackle Jeske Maples, safety Julian Bell and wide receiver DeAngelo Hardy. Will the Stagg Bowl return to Salem at some point after this? We discuss. Plus, we generally expect a high-scoring game, but how high? Over or under 94.5 points? Who will be the most prolific quarterback-to-receiver combo? More over-unders, listener questions, and the rest in our Stagg Bowl preview podcast. I came across Julian Bell's body of work through a Reel that was recommended on my Instagram feed. Couldn't quite place it at the time, but as I'm recording this, I realize that what drew me, even on such a small screen, was this sense of genuine playfulness that he had about him. I know that Reels are meant to catch our eye and give us that small second of dopamine and giggles, but Julian's content has that differentiating factor that sets it apart from all the junk. His is a particular mix of engaging playfulness and thoughtful engagement that might make you overlook what a truly hard worker you're looking at. Even though I have long since put professional photography behind me, I always keep these masterful handlers of the visual art in high esteem. Julian Bell is an incredibly talented creative and that goes without saying. Being a skilled filmmaker, photographer as well as a prolific content creator, Julian's storytelling skills and eye for detail have been effectively chiseled in order for his content to answer the needs of his community. Even with an ever increasing Social Media following, he manages to maintain a level head through it all, despite his success. From touching words of encouragement, to gear tips, to reminding us the importance of taking a break, Julian is one of those engaging souls whose warmth and approachability are always welcome. On this episode, I sit down with Julian to talk about his beginnings, going full-time as filmmaker and content creator, the importance of play, tapping into your wild ideas, experimentation...and even get his insights on his favourite Anime and Manga. In 2020 as covid took hold and one-third of the planets population went into lockdown, some cities across the world rapidly rolled-out provision for active travel – re-allocating road space to allow for people to walk and cycle - helping, for instance key workers get safety to hospitals…. and so on – but these changes sometimes incurred strong emotions from the public and became politically charged. To explore the politics of active travel, the podcast features an interview with Councillor Julian Bell, the former Labour leader of Ealing Council for 11 years and Board member of Transport for London.

T. Julian Bell is the Creative Director and Owner of Dark Veil Studio which currently has a Kickstarter running for the Dark Veil TTRPG. I'll be honest, y'all. I really want this game, and I think you should absolutely go check out their Kickstarter, which is running until October 15th. I'm not being paid to say this; I just think the lore and universe-building potentials sound really cool, and I'm also pretty fascinated by the mechanics that Julian describes in this interview. He has a pretty amazing story about how this game came to be, and they have some big plans for the Dark Veil universe. Beyond just wanting to promote this game because I want it, I also really enjoyed talking to Julian, as he has a wealth of knowledge about project managing a new TTRPG system and goes into pretty elaborate detail on a lot of their processes, including how they decided on their game mechanics and the vital role of playtesting. In this episode, various UCR students talk with students from the UC Riverside School of Public Policy about their unique perspectives in regards to motivation, policies and more during COVID-19. COVID-19 has impacted college students across the nation, and the world. The overnight transition to online learning has left some students vulnerable and worried about what is to come. These four students shine a light on their specific situations, and how they are coping during this crisis. Podcast Highlights: “For meetings it's holding things through Zoom or a Group FaceTime and such, so you could always be in touch with familiar faces and not feel like you're completely isolated. While still keeping yourself, your friends, and all relatives involved safe and healthy.” - Carolina Cardenas on the topic of giving advice to her fellow colleagues on how to stay safe during COVID-19. “What keeps me grounding is I would say thinking that I've done so much hard work during my undergraduate studies, it's just not worth it to throw it all away...we all have future prospects as of now so we need to have that power within us to look forward.” - Edoardo Melchiori on the topic of staying motivated to continue academic coursework. “The idea and the intent of the social distancing order policy, I would say, is definitely a good idea. Something as simple as literally don't hang out with one another, can decrease the contractions of COVID-19.” - Luis Huerta on the topic of support of the social distancing orders to slow the spread of COVID-19. “I think they are necessary because this virus does have a higher death rate for people who are immunocompromised and people that are older. I do think some younger, healthier people are taking for granted that they don't have to worry about the threat as much.” - Julian Bell on the topic of implemented policies that are reducing the transmission of COVID-19. Guests: Carolina Cardenas (Political Science Major, Sophomore) Edoardo Melchiori (UCR Business Major, Senior) Julian Bell (UCR Electrical Engineer Major, Senior) Luis Huerta (UCR Political Science Major, Junior) Interviewer: Samuel Roberts (UCR Public Policy Major, Dean's Ambassador) Music by: Samuel Roberts (UCR Public Policy ‘20) This is a production of the UCR School of Public Policy: https://spp.ucr.edu/ Subscribe to this podcast so you don't miss an episode. Lust for life, Irvin Stone (1934) - 第一本传记,给了世人很多先入为主的梵高特点,1956 年被拍摄为电影中文版:https://book.douban.com/subject/1092149/Van Gogh: A Power Seething by Julian Bell (2015) - 作者是出生于艺术世家的英国艺术家亚马逊英文版:https://www.amazon.cn/dp/B00JXVSNCE/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1513329763&sr=1-2VAN GOGH: The Life By Steven Naifeh and Gregory White Smith (2011) - 这本书第一次提出了梵高可能不是自杀的疑问,在艺术圈引起哗然中文版:https://www.amazon.cn/dp/B0186R7KO2/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1513329795英国作家 Julian Barnes 写的一篇关于梵高的散文伦敦书评:https://www.lrb.co.uk/v37/n15/julian-barnes/selfie-with-sunflowers梵高和弟弟的书信集《梵高手稿》亚马逊:https://www.amazon.cn/dp/B0186RHHRC/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1513329869免费在线版:http://www.webexhibits.org/vangogh/Turner Prize 2017 的颁奖新闻稿http://www.tate.org.uk/whats-on/ferens-art-gallery/exhibition/turner-prize-2017另外我们在Turner Prize提到的很多艺术家的名字,给大家列出来:JMW TunerLubaina HimidGrayson PerryDamien HurstTracy EminWolfgang TillmansAntony GormleyChris OfiliJake & Dino ChapmanYayoi Kusama图书: The Brith of Korean Cool亚马逊:https://www.amazon.cn/dp/1250045118/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1513330462&sr=8-1我们还有提到的阿尔勒的教堂叫 The Church of St-Tromphime,在伦敦的美术馆叫 The Wallace Collection。Intro 和 Outro 音乐是 Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers 的 Vincent Van Goghhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tHGChLGH52I反馈邮箱:zyifan@icloud.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Refilmery Series | Creative Leaders of Films, Brands, and Video
Today’s guest is Graham Hill, Freelance Creative Director at the agency HUSH. With over thirteen years experience spanning film titles, branding, book design, large-scale interactive installations, music videos, and commercials, Graham is as comfortable in the director's chair as he is kerning logotypes. No matter the project, his approach remains the same—find the core of the problem and create a visceral, visually compelling solution touching both the heart and the brain. Graham dropped by Refilmery to share with us his experience executing interactive installations. We talk about his “flat” leadership hierarchy and how that influences the process. He tells us how to stay “on brand” to deliver a compelling story while also meeting the needs of the campaign, and he also shares strategies of how to bring together the various personalities of your creative team. We also discuss personal branding - when you have so much varied creative content on your reel, how do you curate what you present when networking with clients and on your website? Do you include everything? Or only the projects that reflect the direction you want to take your career? About Graham Hill Graham’s work has been recognized by the AIGA, promaxBDA, Stash DVD Magazine, Output Magazine, metropolis, Interview Magazine, Creativity Online, FWA, as well as numerous books and websites. He’s also been a guest critic at SVA and Pratt Institute and has spoken at conferences around the world. Additionally, he has no sense of humor. About Refilmery Welcome to Refilmery! Travis (Matt McGorry) is a struggling young musician, who crosses paths with Ellen (Amy Hargreaves) an older, married yoga instructor in the process of adopting a child. Travis and Ellen begin an affair that slowly deepens into something more intimate and profound. As their encounters continue, Travis must face the consequences of infidelity while Ellen is confronted with her crumbling marriage. This is director Marc Meyer’s third narrative feature. Marc lives with his wife and producing partner Jody Girgenti and their daughter in Brooklyn. He joins me on today’s episode of the Refilmery Series to discuss: • How to create a safe and trusting environment when directing actors for closed-set sex scenes • The magic of storytelling through film through the collision of actors and camera. • How Marc creates scenes and characters that are true to life • How to improve your drama writing skills so that you’re not just telling your own story or getting in the way of your own work. This is director Marc Meyer’s, live from the Refilmery Series in Soho New York. * * * At Refilmery, we believe that everyone has the ability to tell their own story. Eight Interviews from Atomacon. Guests include: Gregory French (actor from the TV show The Walking Dead), Randy Richards (author of novels in the "Hidden History" genre including "The League of Founding Fathers"), Winfield H. Strock (author of several novels including one involving a vampire inside a soviet submarine), Rob Hemelsbok (co-chair for CostumeCon 33), Ken Spivey (Atomacon's Musical Guest of Honor), T. Julian Bell (creator of Kromore, a table top roll playing game), Jada Diaz (conchair for ConCarolinas), and Janet Iannantuono (conchair for Atomacon). This episode covers a wide variety of trends within various professions and areas of interest, because it contains eight short interviews I gathered while between my discussion panels at the science fiction and fantasy convention Atomacon. If Atomacon sounds NEW, it's because it is. This was only its second year. It was held in Charleston, South Carolina on the weekend of November 14, 15 and 16. Atomacon describes itself as "The Lowcountry's first sci-fi, fantasy, science and technology, gaming convention." I had a wonderful time. I always enjoy speaking on panels, as well as interviewing. And so, with thanks, this episode is dedicated to Atomacon. Those thanks are directed specifically to its many volunteers, its many participants, and especially to its conchair: Janet Iannantuono. Hosted by Stephen Euin Cobb, this is the November 26, 2014 episode of The Future And You. [Running time: 86 minutes] Stephen Euin Cobb has interviewed over 300 people for his work as an author, futurist, magazine writer and award-winning podcaster. A contributing editor for Space and Time Magazine; he has also been a regular contributor for Robot, H+, Grim Couture and Port Iris magazines; and he spent three years as a columnist and contributing editor for Jim Baen's Universe Magazine. For the last nine years he has produced a weekly podcast, The Future And You, which explores (through interviews, panel discussions and commentary) all the ways the future will be different from today. He is an artist, essayist, game designer, transhumanist, and is on the Advisory Board of The Lifeboat Foundation. Stephen is the author an ebook about the future entitled: Indistinguishable from Magic: Predictions of Revolutionary Future Science.

Hey folks – this week we have a continuation of last week's interview with T. Julian Bell. Last time you found out about the RAEX system, and this time we hear from Julian's experience in getting games published and sold. If you're an aspiring games designer, or even if you've been in the industry a little while, you should find something interesting here. Julian gives us his thoughts on Kickstarter too and his plans to use the platform for their current project. Later in the Podcast we also have a recording Grant and Colin made after a Warhammer Fantasy battle a few weeks back. They give a short battle report and what they think went right and wrong during the game. Hear how Grant thinks he misused his multiple demon princes! Colin, Grant and Joe are all practicing for the Battle Brothers tournament in Warhammer world in September, so if any of you might be there, let us know. It'd be great to meet up and have a beer. In other news, Colin chats briefly about XCom: Enemy Unknown – his attempt to get nostalgic and remember the old Amiga days – and he gives a quick update on recent games of Eternal Contenders. We've been trying to play a few different games online recently, using Google Hangouts and the Roll 20 system, but haven't found anything perfect so far. We'd love your feedback on what you use to play remote games. What have you found that works well? We'd love to know – please drop a comment below.
