Join Karaleigh in a lovely discussion with Erika Bestor, musician and singer who has Spina Bifida and is the daughter of renowned composer Kurt Bestor. Favorite takeaways: 1. Theatre: No matter how you sound, no matter how you move, you belong. 2. Take a deep breath. Who knows what miracles lie on the other side. 3. Life is a marathon, but so many of us are sprinting. 4. You're fine. And what you're doing is great. And you're enough. You have gifts and things people haven't seen yet and you just need to keep proving those haters wrong and just keep showing who you are. 5. Keep doing all the good things and you'll get there. 6. It feels illogical to continue to hope for all the things that are in your heart, and yet that's what we are expected to do. And on the other side of that is so much beauty and joy- when you just turn it all over to God. 7. There is so much power in letting go and not holding on so tightly and not only trusting God, but trusting yourself. There is power inside of you. 8. Most people would be blown away by how powerful we are. We are powerful beyond belief- the problem is we don't believe it. 9. There's beauty in everything. Just find it. Look for Erika in the Millennial Choir and Orchestra. Guest: Kurt Bestor Office Held: National Delegate for Obama 2008 Issue: Health Care As a free-lance musician, I have no employer and health insurance is very expensive. There was a time in my life when I COULDN'T get health insurance (because I had two children with Spina Bifida). I made too much money to get Medicaid or other help while not making enough to pay for expensive medical specialists out of pocket. No insurance companies would cover my family due to the cost of the kids' care. Talk about medical care "no man's land!" I have LONG been a fan of taking the profit margin out of health care. R & D is one thing, but the profane world that health insurance and hospital monopolies have created need to be curtailed. A version of a one-payer system is a good place to start. This would cover all Americans for basic health care. Of course, like in Canada and the UK, one can always pay for luxury care or nicer hospital digs, but EVERY American should have the constitutional promise of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Sounds like good health to me! Bio: Kurt Bestor, an Emmy-Award-winning and Grammy-nominated composer, is known for the incredible range of musical genres in which he excels. Felicia Farerre will be joining me on this show and I am really excited as her Music has made a Impact on my life as well as many others. From the early start of singing alongside family to working with major brands has been a lot of dedicated focus and hard work even though a fairy tale come true. Some of the highlights have been enhancing the live and/or recorded vocals of Usher, Alan Jackson, John Tesh, Orla Fallon, David Archuleta, Amy Grant (harmonizing with country legend, Vince Gill on her Simple Things record), #1 Billboard Chart recognition with The Taliesin Orchestra, countless non-secular projects, and working with writers and/or producers such as Keith Thomas, Bill Whittington, Brown Bannister, Michael Omartian, Chance Scoggins, Cheryl Rogers, Trammell Starks, Jason Deere, Robin Scoffield, Sam Mizell, Jeremy Bose, Steve Siler, Jim Frazier, Doug Beiden, Michael Garvin, Kent Hooper, Joe Beck, Pete Kipley, Chris Harris, Joe Sowrey, Jo Blankenburg, Jennifer Thomas, Joseph LoDuca, Dan Shea, Rick Priddis, the entire original cast of characters at Non-Stop Productions, Todd Sorensen, Michael Dowdle, Sam Cardon, Kurt Bestor, Don Stirling, Randy Kartchner, Arlen Card, Michael McLean, Janice Kapp Perry, Senator Orin Hatch, Mike Green, (the late) Rich Gibbons, as well as other family, and my dear brother and friend Barry Gibbons. Dream Garden is her first solo effort under her name, intended for international reach and market place. . There were many changes along the way. So much so that I just sat with the music for a solid span of time to fully understand all that had transpired through it and around it. Beautiful findings, discoveries and the heart of my life breaking open during this time. Dream Garden is only the beginning of my new music reality. There is so much more that is to come, both in the way of additions to the EP, and brand new solo and collaborative records.
