Ria Baeck and J.D. Nasaw. Ria and J.D. are both coaches and facilitators who combine scientific research of trauma with embodied practices of collective intelligence and wisdom.  In our conversation, we discuss questions like: what does trauma have to do with new ways of working? How can we be more conscious collaborators? What are examples of embodied practices we can use so that our journey of new ways of working is not only an intellectual one? Ria has thirty years of experience as a therapist, and J.D. is particularly interested in the intersection of somatics, self-management, social justice, and regeneration. Both are associates at Greaterthan for which they have developed a course called Trauma Informed Collaboration. I absolutely loved this conversation with someone who has been a heroine in my world for a number of years now and indeed it was listening to Lisa's beautiful exploration with Nand Chaudhary that inspired me to connect with him and get him onto Ep 9 of this platform. Lisa has this incredible grace, energy and clarity around her life's work which is something that always impacts me when I hear he speak. With a focus on self-management and more progressive ways of leading and being withing the workplace, Lisa shares some absolute gems of insight as I was reminded of the value of re-learning the value of curiosity, something that I have been exploring and continue to explore personally. Do join us in this rich exploration and do connect with this leading thinker and visionary. “Why don't you ask people? They are adults, I think they can handle it” “I hope that one of the things that comes out of this pandemic is that it is causing us to question things” “At our core I think we are empathic, curious creatures. A lot of my work is unlearning the fear-based stuff that we piled on top of the human essence that we are” “That is a beautiful example of how powerful it can be when we listen, when we connect with someone with curiosity and empathy, without an agenda, that can be a powerful way of shifting peoples fears, biases or assumptions about each other” Lisa bio: Lisa Gill, included in the Thinkers50 Radar 2020, coaches teams and organisations who are interested in becoming self-managing.
