I then take a look back at their drummer's other band, who I fell in love with while living in Vancouver, Limblifter. You should also check out Mounties, if you dig Limblifter.Plus, we cover some news, tours, new album announcements and so much more! I also dig into upcoming releases and announced tours. Taking time off from The Age of Electric, Ian Summers (bass) joined the Dahle Brothers (Ryan on vocals, guitars and keys, Kurt on drums and vocals) for Limblifter in 1996. Those familiar with TAOE will recognize the sharp songwriting and guitar pop sensibilities, as the band effortlessly blasts out three-minute, radio-ready tunes like "Vicious" and "Tinfoil." Their sensibilities are definitely on the pop side, but the choruses aren't necessarily syrupy blandness. If anything, the band could have turned up the melodic hooks a bit more for our tastes.   Songs In This Episode: Intro - Vicious 1:15 - First impression of Sideways Skull by The Hold Steady 20:04 - Opiñata 27:50 - Round The "2" 35:14 - Do I Feel Involved? Burial Waves is doing new things with old sounds. I spoke to Ross Hurt today and as expected, he was an interesting cat. , The band's guitarist and resident cinephile, Ross is doing his best to capture something real and simple, while at the same time hiding textures and complexities inside the very music we think is simple until it explodes, capturing us in its supernova.I really love the new EP, Holy Ground, and I expect you might be curious about it after this cool interview, so take a listen to the show, then jump over to their bandcamp page, and support this great new amalgam of musicians. Every band has been on a tour like the 3x5 Tour. Something that looked good on paper, turned out to be SO not good in practice, and then revealed itself as one of the most rewarding and formative experiences of your band's young career. The 3x5 Tour (featuring Limblifter, Stanford Prison Experiment and Local H) was cooked up by the major label marketing machine as a way to draw attention (and attendees) to the baby bands being developed by the various labels. The chief idea being that your average music fan would not be able to resist the siren song of seeing three fairly unknown bands packaged together for the low, low price of 5 bucks. In reality, most people wouldn't go see three fairly unknown bands even if you paid THEM the 5 bucks. We asked our good friend Phil Palazzolo —who had the Herculean task of being sound guy for all three bands on that tour— to come on the show and try to figure out if it was the worst tour ever or the greatest tour ever. For better or worse, no answers were found — but if you can keep up, there's plenty of great stories about a long forgotten tour that (almost unanimously) produced an enduring troop of lifers. This week's, my guest is Thomas Erak of the post hardcore band, The Fall of Troy. What better guest to give to you, my listeners, for this week's show, right? It's rare that I get to talk to a real rock star.... what I mean by this is the fact that having a discussion with a very popular musician is usually loaded to the gills with banter about road life, rehearsals, sex, drugs, etc.... those things you always hear when they do any public interviews. It might be salacious, but you've heard it before and you can find it on Wikipedia as well. I was blessed to have a real discussion with the real guy, and nothing to get in the way of clarity, focus, and transparency.   Again, as I said above, it's so rare. Thomas gave me 2 hours of direct connection, talking about the difficulties of family, relationships, artistry, comedy and love.... yes, love. I hope you enjoy this priceless conversation and discover the artist beneath the veneer of stardom.  Thomas is mesmerizing.3:08 Warnings from father. One of a kind. Authentic trances. Mounties (the band) is often called a Canadian indie supergroup because it's made up of an all-star lineup from the Canuck rock 'n' roll landscape: Steve Bays (from Hot Hot Heat), Ryan Dahle (from Age of Electric and Limblifter) and solo rocker Hawksley Workman. The night I hung out with Steve and Hawksley in Steve's SUV, the guys told me that all Mounties tracks begin with a box of wine and a jam session. (How awesome does that sound?) Steve and Hawksley were very talkative and it was hard to get them to stay on point once they started on a topic. What's the best (and worst) part of working with other successful and established musicians? Which other supergroup didn't work for Hawksley and Steve (as fans)? Who would they like to add to thier supergroup? How sexy is Mounties bassist Parker Bossley? What's the best brand of box wine to drink while jamming? We chat about all this and more! Tracks played on the show... 1) Mounties, Thrash Rock Legacy (2014) "Headphones" 2) Mounties, Thrash Rock Legacy (2014) "Pretty Respectable" 3) Mounties, Thrash Rock Legacy (2014) "Tokyo Summer" 4) Mounties, Thrash Rock Legacy (2014) "Waking Up On Time" ALL songs CANCON

This one should be fun... Limblifter is back with in 2015 with Pacific Milk, their fourth full-length effort - and first in over a decade. The album lives up to the Limblifter name, with the snappy hooks and engaging alt-rock melodies fans have come to expect plus some itneresting sonic progression. We'll speak with frontman Ryan Dahle about this latest effort and how it fits in with the band's back catalogue. Also, we have Toronto's Highs on this episode. They've turned a lot of heads with just a single EP to their name. Fresh off of a tour of Canada's east coast, Mike speaks with the band about their current happenings and future aspirations.
