On today's 15-minute briefing: Hate Watchers in Disarray: Portugal completely dismantle Uzbekistan 5-0. The big talking point? Cristiano Ronaldo finally gets himself on the scoresheet, leaving the hate watchers in absolute disarray. England Frustrated by Ghana: A tricky, frustrating goalless draw for England as Ghana dug incredibly deep to earn a well-deserved point. It leaves me with one major question: should Ghana have actually had a penalty in this one? Croatia Keep the Dream Alive: Croatia did exactly what they needed to do against Panama. A narrow 1-0 win, but it puts three vital points on the board to keep their World Cup campaign alive. Colombia's Goalkeeping Obstacle: Colombia spent the match rifling long shot after long shot against DR Congo, only to eventually settle it with a bit of a tap-in. We saw some more spectacular goalkeeping on display, and despite having three separate goals disallowed, Colombia get the win and march into the Round of 32. Host Nation Joy Continues: A fairly uneventful 2-1 win for Switzerland over Canada, but the big news is that both teams are safely through to the next round. Huge well done to Canada for keeping the host nation joy alive and kicking. Alajbegovic — Remember the Name: Bosnia and Herzegovina progress with a 3-1 win over Qatar, lit up by an absolute screamer from Kerim Alajbegović. Remember the name. At 2-1 Qatar were piling on some serious pressure, but ultimately it wasn't enough to stop the Bosnians going through. Goal of the Tournament?: Morocco were made to work hard for their 4-2 win over Haiti, but it was illuminated by a strike from Wilson Isidor. Is that the goal of the tournament thus far? No Joy for the Tartan Army: A harsh 3-0 defeat for Scotland against Brazil, which leaves them all but out of the competition. I don't feel the scoreline is an entirely fair reflection of how the game actually went, but Brazil were utterly clinical with the chances they created. Historic South African Shock: Surely one of the biggest shocks of the tournament so far. South Africa secure a famous 1-0 win to cruise into the Round of 32 for the first time in their history, dumping out a South Korea side who have looked largely underwhelming throughout this World Cup. Mexico's Home Warning: Another massive 3-0 result for Mexico on home soil against Czechia. Luis Chávez's first international goal was an absolute beauty. They are looking dangerous—I certainly wouldn't want England drawing them anytime soon. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
FC Cincinnati came out of the international break with a new look in the formation but fell at Red Bull New York 4-2. Jason, Coach and Cliff break it all down.
They're not tone-deaf. They don't have the blues. Music just falls flat for them. Host Matt Galloway speaks with Bill Weiss, who is among a small percentage of people who don't derive pleasure from music. He also catches up with one of the first researchers to study the rare condition; Robert Zatorre from Montreal Neurological Institute at McGill University.
John welcomes erstwhile neocon stalwart and current Bulwark seditor-at-large Bill Kristol to discuss the war in Iran, amid mounting signs that it is spiraling out of control. Kristol weighs in on the economic and military dynamics propelling the conflict; whether the U.S. is in danger of being ensnared in an escalation trap; the resignation of Trump's top counterterrorism adviser, Joe Kent; Israel's role in the war's inception; and the rapid unraveling of Donald Trump's rationales for why he started it in the first place. Democrats told us elections are secure, so why are they terrified of proving it. The measure in which Democrats are fighting against passing the SAVE act is mind-blowing but having RINO Republicans backing them up is worse. The partial government shutdown is now wearing on Americans, and some government workers are just giving up and that because shutdowns are unfortunately becoming the new normal. Plus, there's no joy in Joy Reid, Katie Hobbs wants Arizonans to do their taxes over again, President Trump holds back nothing, when is too old to serve in congress, and plenty more on you St. Patty's edition of the Conservative Circus Show.
In this Episode we recap the Gold Medal Hocket game between Canada and the US
Jack is joined by Phil to discuss the 1-0 win away at Crystal Palace. We explore why so many Spurs fans feel unhappy despite the result and debate the current mood of the fanbase. We ask the difficult questions about the style of play: are we seeing the progress we want, and where can we find the glimmers of hope that we are building towards something bigger? There is also an impassioned discussion about VAR. What is it taking from the game, who is it serving, and is it hampering the pure joy of football? Finally, we react to the big news from Alasdair Gold that Vinai Venkatesham is set to lift the wage ceiling at Spurs. We discuss if this is the game-changer the club needs to attract a higher calibre of player, and whether we are currently in a position to lure that elite talent to N17. On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got two Canadian songwriter/performers with similar outlooks but pretty different results—both great. It's Ada Lea and No Joy. Though it used to be more of a band, No Joy has become the solo province of Jasamine White-Gluz in recent years. She just released the first No Joy record in five years, Bugland, and it's a whiplash-inducing delight. There's an undercurrent of classic shoegaze, but no limits on where else things can go. So one minute you've got nods to ‘90s bands like Curve or even Garbage, the next minute the guitars are grunting and crunching. Bugland, which recently got the Best New Music nod from Pitchfork, was created with help from Chicago producer/musician Fire-Toolz, and the collaboration was fruitful. It's funny, because it doesn't sound at all like music that would be made by somebody who recently moved to a positively rural area—they chat about that move in this episode. Check out the title track from Bugland right here. The other half of today's chat is Alexandra Levy, who records more spare songs than her friend under the name Ada Lea. Where No Joy takes a more kitchen-sink approach, Ada Lea leaves more breathing room, sometimes adding just touches of acoustic color to her voice. The third Ada Lea album, When I Paint My Masterpiece, also came out earlier this year, and its unfussy, live-in-a-room approach makes it feel engagingly up-close and personal, not to mention beautiful. Check out “Baby Blue Frigidaire Mini Fridge” right here. In this engaging chat, Levy and White-Gluz talk about living largely off the grid, the various mini-scenes that populate their home country, and a little bit of astrology. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Jasamine White-Gluz of No Joy and Alexandra Levy of Ada Lea for chatting. Israel has looked to Baal for fertility in agriculture and population, and so the LORD speaks the awful judgment that both of these joyful gifts will be taken away from Israel. Their food will only be eaten in mourning, and they will not be able to go to the LORD's appointed feasts because they will be in exile. Despite Israel's mockery of Hosea's faithful preaching, the LORD will do according to the Word that His prophet has spoken. Because Israel has rejected the steadfast love of the LORD from the days of the Exodus, now the LORD promises that His vineyard will be bare, because His people have refused to listen to His Word. Rev. Dr. Peter Elliott, pastor at Messiah Lutheran Church in Seattle, WA, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Hosea 9:1-17. To learn more about Messiah Lutheran, visit messiahseattle.org. “Majoring in the Minors” is a mini-series on Sharper Iron that goes through the books of Hosea, Joel, Jonah, Micah, and Nahum. Although the books of these prophets are shorter, the Word of God they preached was important in the years leading up to the coming of the Christ, and that Word remains important for the Church today. Just as we still need to listen to their call to repentance over our idolatry, so we still need to heed their call to trust in the Savior, Jesus. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to: listener@kfuo.org
What does it mean when the Creator of the universe grieves? In this profound exploration of Ezekiel chapter 19, we uncover a side of God rarely discussed—His deep sorrow over having to judge His beloved people.Through two striking metaphors, a lioness with her cubs and a withered vine, Ezekiel conveys God's lamentation over Israel's fallen kings. These rulers, descendants of David's royal line, had become predatory and violent, "devouring men" rather than protecting them. Kings Jehoahaz and Jehoiachin, specifically mentioned in the historical record, were carried off to Egypt and Babylon respectively as divine judgment for their wickedness. The episode reveals a crucial theological truth: God takes no pleasure in judgment yet cannot ignore sin without compromising His righteousness. This tension between justice and compassion permeates the entire biblical narrative and ultimately finds its resolution at the cross. We also examine a fascinating moment at the beginning of chapter 20, when Israel's elders approach Ezekiel seeking divine guidance, only to be met with God's refusal: "I will not be inquired of by you." Instead, God recounts their centuries-long pattern of rebellion dating back to Egypt, where—astonishingly—they clung to Egyptian idols despite witnessing the ten plagues and the parting of the Red Sea among other miracles in their exodus from Egypt. This ancient struggle with idolatry speaks directly to our modern experience. While few of us bow before physical statues, we often elevate money, relationships, careers, or even religious traditions above our devotion to God. Anything that captures our primary allegiance becomes an idol, potentially leading us down the same destructive path as ancient Israel.Join us as we explore God's heart in judgment, the danger of taking divine patience for granted, and the crucial spiritual practice of remembering God's faithfulness throughout our lives.Support the showThank you for listening!!
