In the music business, there are the normies, there are the crazies, and there are the in-betweens. There also happens to be an unspoken netherworld that aligns with something a little stranger and sits outside the boundaries of pretty much everything you know.My guest today, Tommy Meehan, dislikes the comparisons to the influences of his youth, but it's hard not to hear the tones that built the man. His absurdist venom-spouting new act, Squid Pisser, is nothing I've ever heard before.. and that means something extra extra to me. The man is already a guitar god of the underworld who also just happens to be an incredibly warm human which seriously belies his altered state of a stage personality.Squid Pisser's new EP, 'Vaporize a Neighbor' and it's big brother, 'Vaporize a Tadpole,' is out on Bandcamp now and requires listening of a most scrutinous level. It's also recommended that you are looking for something a little confounding, a lot distorted, and that which oozes a bit from a two week old wound. It's disgusting, yet somehow, some way... once you pick the scab off, it's perfect. Welcome to the new world order of Squid Pisser. This is Rockstar Superhero. Recently, an email arrived from a trusted promotional source in the UK, and much to my surprise it was to let me know about a new band that had risen from the ashes of a legendary metallic hardcore act. I was surprised that a favorite band of mine, Above All, had gone into indefinite hiatus. However, the same musical pause had birthed a new project that excited me because my buddy, Tony Maddocks, of the aforementioned Above All, had a new thing and he was fronting it. We had to get together to chat about it, so here we are. Gratefully, we were also joined by Ron D, a monster guitarist and songwriter who has partnered with Tony to create this new metal monster and breaker of souls. I'm happy to be one of the limited few that get to announce the splash of this coming release! Graham Russell is a true musical icon.He and his musical partner of 46 years, Russell Hitchcock, formed Air Supply, the song writing super duo, in the early 70's and really never looked back.Graham's childhood was anything but normal, leaving him without a mother at a very early age. However, these stark beginnings formed in him in a sort of poetry that eventually found its way into the hearts of millions of fans, as Air Supply became a genre unto itself. He is, and will always be, a passionate man, loving his friends and family and especially his fans, with the deepest sense of love and commitment. This is my interview with a sweetheart of a guy, and the writer of songs that make men and women fall in love over and over again. Liam O'Connell is the vocalist and guitarist of My Octopus Mind, a Bristol based experimental rock band and one I've become a fan of in recent weeks. Liam is a kind and transparent guest, which makes him a perfect fit for our show. At times, our conversation was challenging, which made it worth the time to connect.Liam was openly candid about his life within the structure of music, the desire to overcome that which is seen as confusing or odd to an audience, and his complete satisfaction with playing to a small room of strangers taking a chance on his band. I hope you enjoy our conversation! My Octopus Mind is a high-energy experimental psych-rock four-piece comprised of drums, guitar, vocals and heavily effected double bass. Since their conception in 2017, the band has developed a wild form of experimental rock, taking a tongue in cheek ride through post-punk swagger and dysfunction, wonky riffs, balkan rhythms and moments of haunting grace. That last word means more than you know. Listen to our chat to learn why.'Trying To Be Normal,' the third studio album from Bristol's experimental psych-rockers My Octopus Mind is out now on vinyl via Drongo Records. This is Liam O'Connell of My Octopus Mind and you're listening to Rockstar Superhero1:00 Snippets of influence, especially Jeff Buckley3:30 Being introduced to Buckley and Radiohead at the same time6:20 Plumbing the depths of obsession9:00 Parts of Europe have great musical support12:00 A package of disparate influences15:00 Mystery White Boy17:10 My Octopus Mind - 'Sabertooth Monkey'18:40 The madness of being a creative21:20 Parents were eccentric musicians themselves24:50 The programming of success27:30 Listening through your own personal lens29:11 My Octopus Mind - 'Made Outta Gold'29:45 The ultimate sophomore album is...32:50 Falling in love with albums you hated originally34:39 My Octopus Mind - 'Minor Celebrities'35:40 Dan Reed before the grunge era38:30 Getting lost in a global market41:00 Connecting with an audience that is actually listening'Sabertooth Monkey,' 'Made Outta Gold,' and 'Minor Celebrities' are written and performed by Liam O'Connell and My Octopus Mind and are property of My Octopus Mind. Harry Springer may compose, produce and perform all of Moon Walker's music in his bedroom, but the electrifying and eclectic sounds feel more fitting for a stadium. It's just that good. That immediate. When Harry formed Moon Walker at the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic, he was looking for a way to pass time and maybe make some extra money selling songs to music libraries. It turns out a lot of things were going to change. Quickly. I am thrilled that Harry shared so much about his history and what he believes to be his future. I'm sure you'll have questions, and I am positive Harry will answer them for you. When I think of all the people I've interviewed over the years, very few fall into that short list of people I not only admire as a creative, but one in which I genuinely feel connected to on a cellular level.New York state's own Charles Cure, singer for the legendary hardcore band, Hush, has a new project that is way more than just another new idea. 'Spiritkiller,' which may be the best name for a band ever, is that which Charles is a part of, and who's music you are listening to at this very minute.Spiritkiller embodies all that which rocks and crushes and the music speaks to an era sadly long discarded, but also one of which has never been forgotten. It's musical bliss and takes your humble host all the way back to that first moment when hardcore meant something. On top of all this, Charles and I connect in a rare way, on a wavelength few are willing to straddle. I can't wait for you to hear what we chat about in this show. So, dig it. Vojta Pačesný is such a kind and interesting guy. I don't get to talk to many musicians from the former Eastern Bloc in Europe, so learning more about who they are, and what makes their culture and music different, is a really fun process. As it worked out, I was able to get a good 40 minutes with Vojta, talking about his awesome band, Seeing Things, and chatting about life as a musician and local influencer. The best part of these kinds of interviews are the discovery of a new band, a new sound, and a new human who deserves recognition.Make sure you check out the new Seeing Things single, "Soulkiller," because of cours, it is. It's been out for a few weeks now, so what are you waiting for? I should also say that I'm forever grateful for James Illsley at Saviour Management for making these opportunities happen. Chris Hathcock is known as creative mind and songwriter for the progressive metal band, The Reticent. Chris is also known as a Grammy nominated music educator, and is one of the most interesting, and challenging, humans I've met over my years as a performing artist.I've known Chris for awhile now, and in that time, I've fallen in love with his musical projects. I've also witnessed him suffer traumatic loss at an almost legendary scale. Like all of us, Chris has lost family members and friends over the years, including his father, whom Chris was incredibly close. His father's passing has resulted in Chris creating a new album project where he lays his life and feelings bare in the rarest of ways. You want to reach through his songs to help him heal, but wildly enough, the very reason you want to do that IS because his words and theme touch your aching heart as well. It's quite something to experience. So, this said, I can only warn you that today is not your typical light conversation about an upcoming band or a cautionary tale of celebrity. This is Chris Hathcock, uncompromisingly authentic and desperately seeking anything or anyone that will bring him out of the deep dark hole he's been trapped in as far back as he can remember. This is a conversation about mental illness, surviving it, and admitting that thriving within it doesn't just seem hopeless, but impossible. This is a conversation about the most ugly truths. Wowashwow is a foray into a relatively unknown world for me.Growing up, I fancied myself a listener of all types of music... I was open to all genres, but I never really gave those deep soul grooves a chance, because I didn't understand where they were coming from or what they were saying... I don't think I was trying too hard, either.Today, when I hear a new soul groove or delve into certain hip hop singles, I hear aspects that pop, but don't capture me too much. That is until I heard Wow's new single, "Class Enrollment," and well... I was sold. This was a new thing. A new sound. A new world and a heck of a vibe.My conversation with Wow was short, but still all the things. She's an exciting talent with world changing destiny on her mind. She is going to will it into existence and doing what she does, with these beats, pretty much assures you she's correct. So, spend the next 30 minutes catching up with this exciting voice and utterly inspiring woman. On the show today, I spoke to a guitarist who's band is coming up so fast that their legend in the progressive hard rock world seems assured. My chat today with Paul Visser from the supremely talented London based trio, Black Orchid Empire, was an utter joy. When I was growing up, I struggled to find musicians like Paul, because they are so rare. He has his own voice, truly his own style and sound, and he's found 2 other musicians, who, in turn, have made Black Orchid Empire into a must listen. You must listen to them now.You must buy their new record. They are truly special and they make guys like me very happy. You'll see it and hear it today.Hold on, blessed ones, for this is the truth and the power behind the most surprising new band I've heard in years. There aren't many surviving old school punk musicians. Many of them have gone on to that great gig in the sky, but those that have survived the last 45 years are the true legacy artists of a long gone generation. Mention Johnny Rotten, Siouxsie Sioux, Nina Hagen, or Henry Rollins and you know they changed the musical landscape forever, and their influence is far reaching.Of all the surviving punks, John Robb is a truly influential human, known not only as a founding member of the legendary Membranes, but as a writer, a commentator, a pundit, and an industry insider for over 30 years. Our conversation today was everything I had hoped it'd be. As you can imagine, this is a man with too many stories, but we got to a few, and most importantly took the opportunity to talk about his AMAZING new book, "The Art of Darkness, the History of Goth."So, to quote Marty DiBergi from Spinal Tap, "enough of my yakkin'.... let's boogie." There's a new sheriff in town.I know I'm prone to hyperbole, but on rare occasion, I'm so taken by a guest that I stray off topic and find myself trying to get back to the point of the interview. Fortunately, my joy in talking to Fia Nyxx kept me engaged and we talked about the true depth of her work and where she's going.Let me tell you... there is nothing that's gonna stop this young lady. Her talent is already well known and her persona, coupled with the very real woman let's you know straight away that she defines power, femininity, and purpose. Some bands stick to something tried and true, and some bands take leaps guaranteed to kill any momentum they've built along the way. My guests today, the boys from In Fear, demonstrate that somewhere in the middle lies the sweetest of spots: A place called home where the riffs are ferocious but still feel like a place that Jack built years ago when you weren't quite ready for what comes next.In Fear's new release comes out in May of 2023, but in the interim, they're working hard to keep your whistle wet. As is a new standard in the music business, In Fear are releasing exciting singles, each brimming with energy and aggression. If you thought you liked them before, wait until you read the barometer where a low pressure front is sure to create some lightning in its path. This week on the show, we break some new ground. It's not often we are afforded a chat with musical royalty, but today... indeed we are. Bassist Steve McDonald started his professional music career at 11 years old. Within a few years, he and his brother Jeff started the seminal power pop band, Redd Kross and, less than 10 years later, played the Tonight Show with Jay Leno.30 years later, Steve is still killing it, standing in the ceremonial center, providing ground support for the legendary sludge metal band, The Melvins. The new album, Bad Mood Rising, is a mix of all the things The Melvins do so well and they don't mind letting you have it, square in your ear hole. Make sure you pick up the new record as soon as you listen to our super fun chat, okay? Don't just stream it. As it happens sometimes, I am honored to connect with a real legend in the business. This is due to the fact that I was that weird kid that wanted to know what people weren't talking about on the radio.Cut to today, when who should arrive at my virtual door, but the man himself.... Dee J Moens (Moons) of the legendary Belgian rock band, La Muerte. It's easy to praise a man who has lived his musical life without boundaries, but it's also frustrating to love something so much yet wonder why after 40 years, the band still seeks a larger audience and people don't know what a force the band and the man is. Dee J gives me some answers to explain why he thinks the band has walked this road and I try to explain that it's not fair, because in my opinion, they should have always been huge.It is what it is.This is my interview with one of the heroes of my youth. It's not often that I connect with a musician quite like Craig Lawrence. Let me explain. Most musicians are a bit wild eyed and loony. I know because I'm one of them. When I speak to a guy like Craig, it's such a breath of fresh air because he's not trying to be someone he isn't. He isn't putting anything on. His music is precise, fun, infinitely listenable and full of hope for the future not yet attained. In other words, he's doing it for the love the craft, and that's a rare thing indeed. So, instead of me telling you more about the direction of our conversation, let's just get into the meat of the band's story. This is my interview with Craig Lawrence, the talented singer and guitarist of the great UK band, The Young Hearts, and this is the new Rockstar Superhero.Time codes:1:25 What the Young Hearts are all about3:30 The dynamic of regional bands5:50 Local cultures, schools, and family8:00 Kent and Brighton10:30 Getting what they deserve12:40 Looking to carry on and settle on doing more15:00 Proper progressive stoner rock17:40 Subconscious songwriting20:20 Catchy isn't cheesy22:40 How sounds feel in person25:00 The band will take you out of your funk27:30 Telling the truth through music30:00 Taking back the music from labels32:20 Happiness in the hooks34:50 Coming down from Everest37:00 Nothing left to proveSubscribe to both shows here: https://bit.ly/3airCvhWanna be on the show? Karin Park seems to exist on an alternate plane. It's rare that an artist can feel so singular, even when it's apparent that there is a sort of hidden musical homage to those that have influenced them. Karin's new album, Private Collection, speaks to the soul in a profound way. The music is glassy, mesmerizing, morose, lovely, challenging, enchanting, and dare I say pure. It's a must own and one in which I'll be listening to and sharing with my friends for decades to come. I really can't exaggerate its importance in this brave new world. Short and sweet is how it is when you get J-Easy on the line. The man is a great example of a classic rap artist, playing with the ideas of youthful hubris, all while being a dad, a husband, and a kind soul dealing with naysayers. His new single, 'Let me brag,' says it all. Matt Wagner is going to surprise you. His energy and voice seemingly know no boundaries... at least not yet.Matt's voice is a new icon waiting for discovery and I'm so proud to be one of the first to spread his message of good musical news.I was fortunate to discover Matt through a business relationship, who simply sent me an email asking my professional opinion. As Dennis Sanders says 'Life has a way of saying "don't get too comfortable,"' and maybe that's exactly why I like his music so much.Today, on the show, you're going to make another new discovery with me, as we listen to the first moments a new artistic friendship was formed.Dennis' band, Spirit in the Room, is a dark hearted novel come to amazing life and we are all here to witness it's truth and fiction. The new album, Flamingo, is a thickly mixed, dense and brutally melancholy work of singularity. The name of the band clearly draws a line in the sand, because the music does sound like a spirit in the room. I'm just not sure if it's friendly or not.Why tell you anything more, when you can listen to our great great great conversation? The answer is "I'm not going to." Okay okay... every once in awhile, I get super nervous doing an interview. It isn't intended, obviously, and my energy goes through the roof, so hang on to your hats, because I'm off the rails today.I was so ecstatic to connect with Greg and Sean from the global supergroup, Vented and it shows. Vented was founded not long ago, and for a brief time, Joey Jordison of Slipknot fame, was a member. That is until Joey sadly passed. Speaking today with Greg and Sean, I was able to get a better understanding of the hows and whys of Joey's involvement and what the band is doing to push forward. The band has already released 2 amazingly heavy singles and have a few more coming, until we'll finally get the monster in a box long player that I'm dreaming of hearing. If you like heavy music, you already know these guys and you're probably in agreement that this record is going to kill. With that, let's fall off the cliff together, into the abyss of the most brutal music this side of Sunday. Sinnery is a fantastic band and my interview with Alon Karnieli was all the things I'd hoped it'd be. What's really crazy is Alon is halfway around the world and we actually have mutual friends. How does that happen?Sinnery's new record, Black Bile, comes out in September, and everyone I know is thrilled to hear the entire work. Hopefully, today's show, along with the opening song you're hearing under this intro, will turn you on. Get on the presale list now, because it's a killer record. Alon shares some great insight into life in Israel and the meaning behind each song on the record, so now's the time to learn about this great band, if you didn't already know who they were. Gematria. Say that amazing word three times fast. I was so blessed to chat with Ray Suhy of this fantastic progressive rock act, and we had a wonderful time, getting to know each other and touch on some fascinating subjects. Ray is kind hearted and an utter blast. It's times like these where I wish I could get more than 60 minutes of conversation, but I'm grateful to get any with Ray, I assure you. When I sat with Zach Amster of the up and coming monster rock band, Abrams, I knew I was in for it. Zach has that certain something that I'm familiar with and envy at the same time. He's thoughtful and transparent, but he owns the floor and in our interview, Zach made it very clear he knows what's what. The direction of Abrams is clear and it's my hope that the show today will turn you towards the future of rock and roll as we turn our ears to the groundswell. Dark and brooding.... words that are overused... it must get tiresome, especially when you're a very talented person and you're constantly aligned or misaligned with everyone else in a certain genre. My conversation with James Hammontree of Oklahoma City's Black Magnet was a real treat, because the man is a reality check, charging straight into the blind eye of an industrial metal storm cell.Black Magnet's new release, Body Prophecy, is a squirmy, dark hearted, mind melt that pushes the listener through a death metal, rust tinged trap door, straight into an old school belt sander. It screams the best parts of yesterday with the modern levels and ferocity of today's angst and hopelessness. It's brilliant, mostly because the man who created it is so relentlessly in pursuit of the truthful human experience, whatever that is.I hope you enjoy my blast of a conversation with James Hammontree of Black Magnet because I sure did. Mark Bravi, or as I still like to call him, Marco, is a true musical upstart and an integral piece of the musical mission known as Virtual Symmetry.Hailing from Italy and vacationing in Switzerland, Mark gave me enough time and enough joy during our interview to make up for any emptiness in my life...perhaps ever. I don't know if I've ever met such a kind and easy going guy.The new Virtual Symmetry record, eponymously titled, comes out in September and the band heads out on tour with the beloved Swedish band, Evergrey. Meeting Ian Blurton is one of those super cool experiences, because not only do guys like us vibe on a cellular level, but the man actually writes some of the best songs you'll ever enjoy.Ian's been around a long time and it shows in only the best ways. When you kick around the circuit for years, your sincerity cannot be denied and Ian's music proves his commitment to the craft. The new Future Now record, Second Skin, has been out a number of weeks now, and it resonates with fans of old school, classic melodic rock. Think Cheap Trick and Redd Kross and you might be close to getting what Ian is dishing out. The band makes it happen and these songs will rule your mind, trust me.Let's dive in, shall we? This chat has to be one of my favorites. The brain behind the brawny musical endeavor known as Contemplator, Christian Pacaud, is a truly interesting and open guy and his music makes me happy in the best ways.Contemplator takes old school ideas, flips them around, skins them, pumps in calories and nutrients, and lays the new sounds bare for you to groove and stack your day by. It's pretty great stuff, simple and to the point. To quote David Lynch's Twin Peaks, the conversation around the dinner table is lively. Lively indeed. As always, I'm grateful for the chance to share new music and ideas with you, so let's just jump into the caboose. The Oklahoma Kid is a metalcore inspiration of the highest order. I became a recent fan and it's easy to say that I'll stay that way. The band has a reputation for really giving it to the fans, and the music hits me so hard, I don't know if I can claim I have 20/20 vision anymore. Maybe with my reading glasses.Their killer bass player, Robert Elfenbein, is a shining example of what it means to be an in the pocket rhythm player and our conversation was a total blast. The band's new album, Tangerine Tragic, is a verifiable 11 track beast of an album and it's my pleasure to tell you all about it today. So, jump into your headphones or tap along in your car. Feather Mountain is one of the most important bands in the world. They tell stories that penetrate your soul. The melodies are complex and inviting. The subject matter is human and fully realized. It's magic stuff and I'm honored to be friends with the band.Over the last 12 months, we've had a few different chats, and this interview presented today, is an amalgam of those conversations. If it sounds a bit disjointed thematically, it's only because we edited around the variables as best we could, all while keeping the thrust of the band's story complete. That said, here is our conversation in it's uncensored and often painful glory. There's an odd thing that happens in the music business and particularly in the world of heavy metal.People love to categorize. In fact, they love to do it so much, that every band in history despises the question, yet guys like me have to ask it because how else can we turn our listeners onto a new thing? Listeners love to think they are open minded, but secretly, they are looking to hear what they like and are rarely open to new sounds or ideas.Cue Stormbound. The band is not bound (pun intended) to any one genre, even though they are often lumped into Symphonic or Power metal sub genres. Stormbound is its own thing and I would guarantee you're going to love it.So, let's just jump right in and play, shall we? Meeting the members of Polarity is ultimately the result of a very happy accident. In preparation for an interview with a very well known progressive rock band, I was listening to a song on YouTube. As it happens, the songs end, and inevitably the algorithm brings up a new song, often by the same artist. As I'm in the middle of writing my questions, I hear a very cool intro and a very different sound pours into my headphones. It turns out YouTube's algorithm really wanted me to hear Polarity, so I reached out to the band, and this interview is a culmination of those random moments.I will say nothing more, but welcome to the new sounds of accidental discovery. Guitarist and songwriter, Andreas Ballnus, has been working on a 'new' project called Philosophobia for 15 years. Yes, I said that right... 15 years. In between gigs with various world class musicians around Europe, Andreas and a few other superstar musicians wrote, recorded, and ultimately re-recorded the new self titled album, out June 24th. What do you do when you encounter genius? Do you let it overwhelm you? Do you ask it questions, to better understand it's impossible point of view? Do you sit and revel in the idea that some can see other worlds and imagine other sounds?Typically, I sit in awe and do my best impression of a smart person, so I can at least hang on some level. That's about all I could do when I connected with Tim and Chris from the musically ambitious High Castle Teleorkestra. There's just so much to learn and see and hear, so the best bet is to just hang on for dear life and enjoy whatever comes of the questions, because it's never what you expected. Damon Tate is just one of those guys who brings such a calm vibe that you get immersed in his world easier than you'd expect.Of course, this belies the intense nature of his band, the awesome OF VIRTUE. True to form, though, Damon is a guy who gets it out on stage and on record, and as I've said many times, it's always the guys in the heavy bands that have the least to prove.Besides, Of Virtue proves the reason they are making waves with the new singles, 'Hypocrite' and the previous release, 'Sinner.' Now's the time to pay attention to this great band.Let's roll, shall we? This is Damon Tate. Sometimes, interviews are a real challenge. Othertimes, they find their way into epic experiences. For some reason today, my conversation with Mike and Aaron went way past epic and feel squarely into the legendary category. I'm not sure what it was, but man we had a great time.Sure, it's possible I was a little excited. Sure, I love the new album, Delusions. Sure, I'm clearly known for hyperbole, but this was different. How different? Well, try to keep up, because this one went all over the map. We laughed a ton, and best of all, we became instant friends. Not the garden variety, but the sweet forever kind.Hold onto your pork pie hats, my listening audience because this one is just so much fun. If you were confronted with a life or death situation, how do you think you would respond? Would you bear down and deal with the circumstances and worry about the consequences later? How would you respond emotionally? Would you pray?My guest today, Charles Cure of the brutal New York based sludge metal band, HUSH, encountered such an experience. For Charles, his experiences were life changing, but affirming all at the same time. Charles knows what he wants and nothing was going to get in the way of the bigger picture. The details of this moment are explained in greater detail in the show today, so prepare for the unexpected. I didn't see this coming at all. This is my intimate chat with Charles Cure of Hush, and this is Rockstar Superhero.----------------Time Codes: 3:00 Growing up in Hudson New York7:50 Maturing adults and the project of music11:00 Crazy car accidents14:40 Surviving the brush with death18:20 Yes, that really happened21:40 Accepting vulnerability25:10 The deepest parts of our humanity28:30 The coolest pastor in the world30:00 The life of Charles Cure33:00 Messing with life and suicide36:30 The difficult conversations around depression39:40 Understanding the edge of darkness43:00 Capabilities notwithstanding46:20 The Pornography of Ruin49:50 What does your message say about you?53:00 What are you in love with?56:40 Weighed down by the worldHUSH:Jordan Cozza – bass/guitarJason Tash – bassJeff Andrews – guitarMark O'brien – drumsCharles Cure – vocalshttps://hushdoom.bandcamp.comhttps://twitter.com/HUSHdoomhttps://www.facebook.com/hushdoomhttps://www.instagram.com/hushdoomhttps://linktr.ee/hushdoomHudson, New York-based crust-influenced sludge outfit HUSH unveils their third full-length release, The Pornography Of Ruin.HUSH is formed by veterans of indie and underground bands from disparate corners of the scene and currently includes former members of From Ashes Rise, Self Defense Family, Aficionado, Endicott, and others. The Pornography Of Ruin showcases a more expanded view of their established sound by embracing more melodic elements, intense dynamic shifts, and previously unexplored vocal and atmospheric textures within each composition. Thematically, the record focuses on the concept of personal destruction and transformation; drawing heavily from vocalist/lyricist Charles Cure's experiences in the aftermath of a 2016 car accident that left him hospitalized and unable to walk for several months.Cure elaborates, “At the time the first song for this album was written, I was struggling to relearn how to put one foot in front of the other and confronting major personal transformations on both mental and physical levels. By the time the last song was completed, the world had become destabilized by a global pandemic as well as political upheaval and violence. With past HUSH material, we had always tried to write songs that captured a sense of impending disaster at a macro/abstract level, but at a remove from our personal lives. With The Pornography Of Ruin, given the environment we found ourselves in, that approach didn't seem useful anymore so we took those same ideas and personalized them on a deep level. I think the songs really communicate the feelings of helplessness and loss that were pretty universal to our experience of the last few years.”The Pornography Of Ruin was engineered at the band's studio; HOVVL Audio Environment in Hudson, New York by frequent collaborator Ryan Slowey and was mastered by Jack Shirley at Atomic Garden in Oakland, California. The cover was created with photography by an urban explorer Adrian Ledezma and design by Charles Hush. Fans of Disembowelment, Corrupted, Samothrace, Grief, and Mouth Of The Architect, take note. The Pornography Of Ruin will see release on June 24th, released digitally and on CD by the band, on cassette via Sludgelord Records, with plans for a vinyl release to follow. The release of The Pornography Of Ruin will see HUSH embarking on its first live shows since 2018 on a short Mid-Atlantic/Northeast run with their friends in New Jersey doom band Cowardice in late June being solidified. Watch for updates on that and additional live news to followIn their ten years together as a band, HUSH has become one of New York's most sonically punishing musical exports. During that time, they have produced two LP's and two EP's worth of acerbic sludge covered in a layer of ‘90s crust and infused with flourishes of atmospheric post-metal, earning them a loyal following in extreme metal circles. In a live setting, the band has developed a reputation for a kinetic onslaught, delivering huge waves of distortion through a wall of amplifiers accompanied by a primitive rhythmic churn that has at times featured two drummers simultaneously pummeling the towering riffs into submission.HUSH muscled their way onto the scene in 2014 with the release of their first self-released LP titled Unexist, and then proceeded to solidify their sound with the sparser and bleaker aesthetic of 2016's Nihil Unbound EP, released as a collaboration between Dullest Records, Silent Pendulum Records, and Fuzz Records. Their most recent recorded offering was the 2018 LP Untitled II released via UK label Sludgelord Records, with the album comprising two tracks of material from writing sessions for Nihil Unbound as well as a reimagined and rerecorded version of their first EP, 2012's Untitled I.In the years since the recording and release of Untitled II, the band has endured several lineup shifts that resulted in limited live outings, but the group remained focused on producing a follow-up record that would surpass their previous efforts on every front. To accomplish this, founding member Jordan Cozza built a recording studio in a barn in Hudson, New York and the group began shaping songs that would refine and encapsulate the ideas they had been pursuing since their inception. The result of these labors is the 2022 LP, The Pornography Of Ruin.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/rockstar-superhero--4792050/support.
Groove, reckless 70's stoner vibes, and huge blue psychedelia makes Elektric Mistress' killer EP, Chapter 99, a hit in my book.I was able to chat with a few of the guys in the band, namely guitarist Kyle Cantfell and keyboardist Riley MacDonald, so it was really nice to get a few different perspectives on the sound and fury of this cool band. The new EP drops on June 17th and it's sure to make an impression, so it's my humble hope you'll pick it up sooner than later and enjoy those familiar warm and fuzzy overtones that curl your ears. This is Elektric Mistress and you're listening to their killer music right now, on Rockstar Superhero.------------Time Codes:3:00 Closed loop processing7:00 Talking session musicians down10:50 Childhood sounds of Deep Purple14:50 Waiting for nothing18:40 Richard Wright of Pink Floyd22:30 Halifax and Montreal27:00 The foolish abuses of rockstars 30:00 Healthy foods on tour34:00 Staying away from social media doesn't help a band38:00 We don't do interviews40:40 Casual life and music and hanging out43:50 Getting the band on the festival circuits47:40 Sacrificing small animals51:45 Getting diseases and dying, kind of55:00 The stigma of certain hallucinogens59:00 Mass shootings in Canadahttps://elektricmistress.bandcamp.com/album/epSubscribe to both shows here: https://bit.ly/3airCvhWanna be on the show? Thornhill has been exciting audiences for a few years now. Another monster band, hailing from the land down under, this Australian quintet knows how to put it down and wrap you around their sugary fingers.I was honored to chat with frontman Jacob Charlton about the way the music business and the band's fanbase has gravitated increasingly towards them, as their sound and look has matured. It may not be easy to be this badass, but Thornhill makes it look like it's a run around the park.Make sure you check out their new album, 'Heroine,' to discover the musical tricks the band plays on you as it lulls you into its heavenly power pop realm. I imagine, the band will be spending the next year on the road in support of the new record, one way or another, so make sure you check them out as soon as you can. Thornhill is definitely going to the top. With that, please enjoy my conversation with Jacob Charlton, the very interesting singer of Thornhill. Maria Lessing, the singer from the lush and lovely Future Palace, was my guest on the show today and I'm 100% sure you're going to love her voice. She's a great emotive vocalist with a big range and a certain way about her, and she has the performance chops of someone who's been in the business for a long time, yet she's still so young.Future Palace has just released the new album, 'Run,' which, according to the band, "explores the aftermath of a toxic relationship in a stunning and vulnerable way." I have to agree. The songs are full of life, bursting with catchy melodies that overcome the bitterness behind the words. What comes now for this exciting trio? Well, you'll have to listen to the show all the way through to find out, so let's get to the meat of it, shall we?This is Maria Lessing of Germany's Future Palace, and this is Rockstar Superhero.-----------Time codes:1:30 That's awesome4:00 Many chapters in life leads to this moment7:50 The opinion of the normal people11:10 Believing in the sound and fury of Maria15:00 The first experience meeting fans18:30 Being a girl in a boy world21:50 Suzi Quatro and the butt smack25:30 The wish to improve yourself29:20 Changing into a crazy artist34:00 Becoming an honest performer38:00 Processing the lyrics in the songs42:00 Carrying what you experience46:00 Most people are afraid to talk about abuse50:00 Don't feel bad about telling the story53:30 Problems in relationships with other humans56:00 Looking to be on bigger stagesFUTURE PALACE ARE:Maria | VocalsManuel | GuitarJohannes | DrumsTwitter: https://twitter.com/FuturePalaceDEInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/futurepalaceFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/futurepalaceYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/futurepalaceWebsite: https://future-palace.com/Subscribe to both shows here: https://bit.ly/3airCvhWanna be on the show? I love Immerse. A lot. I get it... I'm prone to hyperbole but the music hits me in the right place and the band is just so extremely talented. So, to these ears, Immerse is all the things...and yet melodically sublime.I spoke to Josh Armitage a few weeks back and our chat was what you'd expect. We had a great time and connected over everything from songs to the technical aspects of being the timekeeper in a modern rock band. There is so much to love here and Immerse is poised to turn it on, and in turn, welcome you into the fold as a fan for life. Their new single, Self Destruct, is a perfect example of what they do best and they did it.
