--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mapradiocr/message

It's the horror movies of South America this week! We watched La Casa Muda/Silent House as our all-watch, Morto Nao Fala/Nightshifter as the Mom-watch and Luciferina as the Mac-watch.How many creepy dolls did we give La Casa Muda? How many vengeful spirits did Mom give Morto Nao Fala? How many ovaries did Mac give Luciferina?Mom forgets the title of the movie "Sucker Punch" and to explain what "Squad" is, but there is a little addendum at the end of the podcast along with the Mom and Mac Chat to fill in the blanks in a section I like to call "Fill in the Blanks". One blank that was left open was that it was "The Haunting" (1963) that is based on the Shirley Jackson novel. I couldn't tell you what the 1959 movie is!We had some technical difficulties so the Mom-watch was a solo endeavour. Just roll with it. It is still fun as hell. What did you think about the different format for the pod? What do you think about the movies? Can you recommend any other great South American flicks? Please leave us a message at the anchor site or get in touch with us via Instagram. We'd really love to hear from you!Next week we are exploring the movies of the Middle East and North Africa: Blue Elephant 2 from Egypt, Big Bad Wolves from Israel and Under the Shadow from Iran. Hey there, WoHo's!In our second episode, we explore the French/Canadian film"Martyrs", a classic in body horror/pain porn (but please don't call it torture porn, as Mom originally did). We walso watched the 2015 American remake so you don't have to. Wow. What happened there?Pascal Laugier, the director of the original, according to IMDB, has stated he was "Inspired by Hostel (2005), but instead of making a movie about suffering, he wanted to make a movie about pain". How very French, non?How do we properly classify this film? Is it actually two films in one? Is it akin to exploitation films of the 70's? Is it, in any way, a home invasion film? Some have stated it is a paradigm example of the New French Extremity movement, while others simply classify it as a body horror film. We'll get into it!At the suggestion of friend, friend of the show, and WoHo, Quinn M. has suggested, Mom and Mac introduce themselves and talk about what horror does for them individually and as a family. Thanks for listening! Robin and Scotty take on a sexy Satanic theme this week and talk about Luciferina, an Argentinian sexorcism movie that was heavy on both devil and dong. Robin rants about why the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was a tasteless soup made out of otherwise delicious ingredients. The crew shares some bizarre news about nuns turned pornstars, John Chimpo the burglar, marrying a poltergeist, police pylon brutality and more. ***************************************************** “Party Crowd 2” by Kolezan is licensed under CC BY 3.0 “Bong Hit” by OnionEye is licensed under CC BY 3.0 “Breath in and out Cigarette” by OnionEye is licensed under CC BY-NC 3.0 “Metal Loop” by thunderstorm10 is licensed under CC BY 3.0 “Scream 1” by TheSubber13 is licensed under CC BY-NC 3.0 ****************************************************** Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel and like us on facebook, Instagram, and on Twitter. To celebrate a birthday, Luke decided that 40's of Colt 45 were in order. Needless to say, this episode will be entertaining if nothing else. Let's get right into this mess. THE RANGER is bringing the punk vibes with a very stylish trailer, WHAT KEEPS YOU ALIVE is absolutely gorgeous, and potentially bloody, while BLOOD FEST shows that the guys from Rooster Teeth know a thing or two about the genre. Genre regulars of yore, Malcolm McDowell and Corey Feldman are back in the strangely mesmerizing CORBIN NASH, and the homies over at ARTSPLOITATION grab two vastly different films in LUCIFERINA and TRAUMA. We haven't seen them yet, but we're sure this bodes well. Amidst all the drinking, we still remember to do a review. This week it is APARTMENT 212 (formerly GNAW). This is probably one of our most in depth review conversations that we've ever had. Is it the booze? Probably. Wrapping up the episode is an old favorite, TWO GUY ONE CUP. We throw on some fight music and go to war. Well… not really, but we were hype! All of that and a whole lot of silliness on episode 141 of The Modern Horrors Podcast. THIS is the one to share with your friends!
