--- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/mapradiocr/message
Have you ever checked into a hotel expecting paradise but walked into a nightmare instead? Join me as I relive a vacation marred by a series of unfortunate events at Barcelo Hotel Aruba, and the heartfelt letter I felt compelled to write to Aruba's Minister of Tourism and Public Health. This episode peels back the curtain on the glossy facade of the hospitality industry, shedding light on the disturbing reality of a deceptive room upgrade that led to a bed bug infestation and relentless plumbing issues. Listen as I dissect the hotel staff's unsettling reactions, from shifting blame to handing out token compensations, and reflect on the unsettling consequences these experiences have on trust and expectations in vacationing. It's not just a recount of grievances but also a rallying call for transparency and service excellence in the hospitality realm. As we navigate through a guest's grueling encounter with bed bugs and the hotel's lackluster response, you'll hear the fight for dignity and the pressing need for hotels to uphold high standards in customer care. But it's not all gloom; the final notes of our conversation strike a chord of resilience and optimism. We discuss how even in the face of adversity, the act of spreading joy, helping others, and aiming for betterment can be transformational. So tune in, as we aim to not just inform but inspire a ripple effect of positive change that transcends our personal travel experiences. To see the letter sent and pics at: www.carmensuarez.com Thank you for stopping by.

Nick Balzan is the Chief Commercial Officer of Mangias Resorts and Clubs, and one of the most experienced business creatives in the world of travel and hospitality. Nick joins Jeannette to talk about his inspiring business journey, the most insightful lessons he's learned during his swift ascent to success, the best ways to embrace the varied cultures and wonders of the world around you, and why you should always listen to your heart when it comes to chasing your dreams. KEY TAKEAWAYS We have to push ourselves to leave our comfort zones if we want to find true growth. Sometimes that means leaving the places we know and feel comfortable in, but the growth you experience by being more adventurous is invaluable. When you find yourself in a new place and in the middle of a new culture, it's always best to embrace it as fully as possible. Be humble and be yourself, listen, learn and adapt. To break away from one's past in pursuit of your dreams can be a tough call, but we need to remember that the life we're given is ours to live. Never be afraid to follow the voice of your heart when it tells you to hit the road in pursuit of your dreams. Making changes in business should always be a team effort. You have to lead from the top, but never discount the voices of your team, and keep them involved whenever you can. BEST MOMENTS 'I decided that I needed to make a change in my life' 'Be humble. Listen, learn and adapt' 'It was something I felt I had to do. It's something that he would be proud of' 'Surround yourself with the right people and learn from them as much as possible' This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. Abstract: Abnormalities in biological cell nuclei morphology are correlated with cell cycle stages, disease states, and various external stimuli. There have been many deep learning approaches that have described nuclei segmentation and analysis of nuclear morphology. One problem with many deep learning methods is acquiring large amounts of annotated nuclei data, which is generally expensive to obtain. In this paper, we propose a system to segment abnormally shaped nuclei with a limited amount of training data. We first generate specific shapes of synthetic nuclei groundtruth. We randomly sample these synthetic groundtruth images into training sets to train several Mask R-CNNs. We design an ensemble strategy to combine or fuse segmentation results from the Mask R-CNNs. We also design an oval nuclei removal by StarDist to reduce the false positives and improve the overall segmentation performance. Our experiments indicate that our method outperforms other methods in segmenting abnormally shaped nuclei. Copy rights belong to original authors. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2023.01.25.525598v1?rss=1 Authors: Han, Y., Yang, L., Shkolnikov, V., Xin, D., Barcelo, S., Allebach, J., Delp, E. Abstract: Label-free cell imaging, where the cell is not "labeled" or modified by fluorescent chemicals, is an important research area in the field of biology. It avoids altering the cell's properties which typically happens in the process of chemical labeling. However, without the contrast enhancement from the label, the analysis of label-free imaging is more challenging than label-based imaging. In addition, it provides few human interpretable features, and thus needs machine learning approaches to help with the identification and tracking of specific cells. We are interested in label-free phase contrast imaging to track cells flowing in a cell sorting device where images are acquired at 500 frames/s. Existing Multiple Object Tracking (MOT) methods face four major challenges when used for tracking cells in a microfluidic sorting device: (i) most of the cells have large displacements between frames without any overlap; (ii) it is difficult to distinguish between cells as they are visually similar to each other; (iii) the velocities of cells vary with the location in the device; (iv) the appearance of cells may change as they move in and out of the focal plane of the imaging sensor that observes the isolation process. In this paper, we introduce a method for tracking cells in a predefined flow in the sorting device via phase contrast microscopy. Our proposed method is based on DeepSORT and YOLOv4 and exploits prior knowledge of a cell's velocity to assist tracking. We modify the Kalman filter in DeepSORT to accommodate a non-constant velocity motion model and integrate a representative velocity field obtained from fluid dynamics into the Kalman filter. The experimental results show that our proposed method outperforms several MOT methods for tracking cells in the sorting device. Copy rights belong to original authors. This week we're joined by choreographer - Teresa Barcelo - or “Toogie” as she's often known. She's danced with a whole host of stars including Sean Paul, Dua Lipa and Harry Styles, where she quite literally instructed a whole load of dancers to 'shove melon in Harry's mouth'. Toogie started out as a backing dancer working alongside Sean Paul, and Sean Kingston. Since then she's gone onto choreograph Dua Lipa, Miguel and Alicia Keys - working towards music videos, world tours and award show performances. In the chat we discuss her approach to choreography, an approach that saw her named as one of Billboards most influential choreographers, as well as the work she did with Dua to own the quote un-quote, lazy dance.

It's super refreshing when you have an artist who creates work based on their genuine, innate belief system. Toogie talks to us about her unique dance journey, how her upbringing inspired her career, and how meditation and breath work amplified her work and her world. She has this super grounding presence that will leave you feeling simultaneously both zen and ready to get-after-it upon listening to this episode. Her upcoming show Metanoia will surely be a sensory experience, and premieres June 23.MNTR MGMTWebsite@mntr.mgmt@justinementerTeresa "Toogie" Barcelo:Website@toogiesaurus Tickets to Metanoia — https://ci.ovationtix.com/34367/production/1113008Donate to Metanoia — https://givebutter.com/toogieRecent interview about Metanoia — https://www.ladancechronicle.com/metanoia-at-the-odyssey-theatre-an-interview-with-teresa-toogie-barcelo/Teresa “Toogie'' Barcelo (she/her) is an internationally acclaimed choreographer based in LA. Trained classically and culturally in a plethora of movement techniques and philosophies, Toogie is a pioneer in the hybridization of contemporary, modern, and urban methods. She aims to inspire others to create with compassion, transparency, and gratitude. As a first generation Cuban-Spaniard citizen, Toogie actively decolonizes the industry, lifts others up with her, and facilitates unique, culturally inclusive collaborations.Toogie's extensive experience spans both the commercial and live performance worlds. Within the theatrical space, Toogie's work has been seen at Sleepless: The Music Center After Hours, Pacific Design Center, LA Theatre Center, and Art Share LA. In 2019, she choreographed the Lighting of the Sails at the Sydney Opera House with Andy Huang, and from 2012-2019, she was the Associate Artistic Director at Heidi Duckler Dance, a role that provided many opportunities to create site-specific work in unconventional spaces. As a master teacher, Toogie facilitates movement through a holistic approach, creating a space for experimentation and catharsis. Prior to the pandemic, she taught a weekly improvisation-based class at The Movement Lifestyle that prompted creative investigations and moving introspection, alongside a soundscape created in real time by composer Joe Berry. With the intention to expand the physical and emotional consciousness, Toogie views teaching as an essential element of her creative life and community and continues to teach her "wiggle room" bi-weekly.Within the commercial realm, Toogie works as a movement director, coach, and choreographer for a wide range of artists including: Alicia Keys, Dua Lipa, Tove Lo, Miguel, Harry Styles, Lauv, Calvin Harris, Diplo, Perfume Genius, Phantogram, Troye Sivan, St. Vincent, Sabrina Carpenter, Alina Baraz, M83, Kesha, Daya, Alice Glass, Lawrence Rothman and The Naked & Famous, among others.
