The Montreal Canadiens were not especially active on the first day of NHL free agency, however they did get a major contract on the books by signing Juraj Slafkovsky to his entry level contract. We also discuss the depth players the Canadiens got on the books for one-year deals: Nate Schnarr, Joel Teasdale, Alex Belzile, Madison Bowey, Anthony Richard, and Mitchell Stephens. Finally, we discuss the cap space the Canadiens need to clear, the Ottawa Senators improvements, the Vegas Golden Knights perpetual race against the cap, and more.Find and follow Locked on Canadiens on your favourite podcast platforms:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/locked-on-canadiens-daily-podcast-on-the-montreal/id1481087511Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/0DUBvqUjDFSfWSFnogXOoU?si=BknvfKB8QF-eXiiomysuZw&nd=1Stitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/show/locked-on-canadiens-daily-podcast-on-the-montreal-canadiensAlso make sure to follow Locked on Canadiens and their hosts on Twitter!Locked on Canadiens: https://twitter.com/LO_CanadiensFind Scott on Twitter: https://twitter.com/scottmatlaFind Laura on Twitter: https://twitter.com/theactivestick#NHLHockey #MontrealCanadiens #HabsSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. Wadden and JPat dissect losing Jonah Gadjovich on waivers and their thoughts on the asset management. We hear from Madison Bowey, who talks about the patience while he waits to draw into an NHL lineup. Talked about Mikey DiPietro, who Andrew thinks will get a win this season. This is your receipt. JPat counters, thinking that it will be the following year. We even get into an #AskJPat. Big thanks to our title sponsor Able Auctions See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Lo, these weeks in anguish: - A lot has happened in the 19 days since Antoine Roussel opined that a break in the schedule would be nice. - We pester and applaud our favourite voices in the shifting local media landscape. - The world witnesses its first Troy Stecher hat trick: a greasy goal, a beauty goal, and A Stech in Time for the ages. - A forlorn goodbye to Adam "Dimples" Gaudette. We hardly asset managed thee. - The wholesome Instagram-stalking of Matthew Highmore, and Ardella compares Madison Bowey to a shooting star, in a sense. - We admire JT Miller for his leadership, and we get why they're still trying to play out the remainder. We still don't think they should, and we won't abide the abdication by the front office and ownership. - So we're opting out of the return to play, in our hearts at least. Next week we'll be talking about the 2004 Canucks-produced documentary(?) Love This Team, Love This Game. Thanks for listening! This episode supports the Hockey4Youth foundation and HerosHockey.
We cover Hideki Matsuyama's amazing victory at Augusta. We cover how his third-round play ignited his run and how he held on to beat Will Zalatoris by one stroke to claim his Green Jacket and became the first Japanese man to win The Masters!!! (1:00). Manchester City's Ferran Torres scored a sweet goal, and the team played well but lost to an electric Stuart Dallas and Leeds 2-1. Also, Fulham's attack was lifeless once again on the pitch, unable to score even one goal vs. the Wolves. It was an opportunity to pick up a win, but the team failed to do so somewhat predictably. And their impending relegation looks more and more likely in CJ Hawk's opinion (7:00). Further on, we break down the flurry of trades made by the Blackhawks at this year's trade deadline. Good luck, Madison Bowey, Matthew Highmore, Lucas Wallmark, Mattis Janmark, Brad Morrison, Carl Soderberg, and Lucas Carlsson at your respective new clubs (22:00). Zach Lavine vs. Trae Young and the Hawks was a duel for the ages, with Zach scoring 50!!! and Trae was lighting the court up with 42!! Besides Zach and Nikola, the Bulls played poorly. The paint defense was abysmal, and the shooting was rather nasty outside of the two all-stars. Later, we vented about the Bull's loss against the woeful Timberwolves (38:00). Happy Jackie Robinson Day!! And also Carlos Rodon throws a no-no vs. Cleveland wow omg!!! (58:00). The Welcome Matt kicks off the show, and it’s a juicy one on NHL trade deadline day. Despite reports from other outlets, Matt is hearing that the Canucks were not pleased with the lack of adhering to COVID protocols from Adam Gaudette, and that it was a factor in the Canucks moving the young forward to Chicago. AHL reporter Patrick Williams from EP Rinkside and NHL.com stops in next to give the scouting report on Matthew Highmore and Madison Bowey, who the Canucks picked up at the deadline. NHL Insider David Pagnotta from the Fourth Period comes up next and the conversation starts with the Canucks, where Pagnotta reveals that the Canucks were in talks with teams about moving Brandon Sutter, but the veteran forwards contract was a sticking point in the talks. The Price is Right focuses in on the Canucks at the trade deadline. Tell Me I’m Wrong and Hashtags follow that. Jeff Paterson joins for his daily hit with lots to unpack after the Canucks made some questionable trades at the deadline. J Pat wonders if some of Gaudette’s behaviour off the ice was his downfall with the organization. It’s a Monday, so the boys play Memo To to wrap up the show. EITM interviews Madison Bowey
HOLY SOCIAL MEDIA FOLLY! This week we spend some time critiquing Jon's boy Madison Bowey's social media game - which has him odds on for professional sports worst social media skills. We also pay tribute to Craig Anderson's legendary wife who suggested that "his team needed him" while she was (and still is) ill and lead him to pull down a shutout against the Oilers. This week's Weekly Waffle focuses in on who will take John Scott's place atop the All Star Weekend mountain - we throw bruiser and all round boss-hog Shawn Thornton into the mix as your next feel-good star! Lastly, after one-too-many Nazim Kadri references we award the Dog Act of the week to none other than it's namesake: Steve Ott! What an episode! Make sure to hit us on our socials and be sure to check out the Cheapskate Hockey guys who present the show!
